Pat Swyler (1941-2013) was a Long Island sculptor and ceramic artist who experimented with color layers, multiple clays and firing techniques to create a variety of depth and range and dramatic differences in surfaces.
An M.F.A. graduate of the School for American Craftsmen, Pat Swyler’s work has been exhibited in national and international invitational shows as well as museums, including: The Memorial Art Gallery, Rochester, N.Y., the Heckscher Museum, Huntington, N.Y. and the Islip Art Museum, Islip, N.Y.Her work is represented in the American Crafts Council slide collection, “Craftsmen of the Northeast” and most recently, the “Orton International Cone Box Competition,” Las Vegas Arts Council’s “Faces of Women,” Gloria Kennedy Gallery’s “Clay: Applied vs. Fine Art,” Guilford Art Center’s “Biennial Exhibition of Functional Ceramics,” the “Kiln God National,” the “Jersey Shore Clay National” of Mt Burton gallery, Carbondale Clay’s “Small and Exquisite” ” and “Clay National III,” University of Tulsa’s “Red Heat,” Surface Library’s “Smoke and Fire” and “Gift of Art” Pat Swyler has taught art at Dowling College and the State University of New York at Stony Brook.
