Background
Network Management– Efficient, reliable and secure operations and
management of networks, systems and services– Functions
Fault, Configuration, Accounting, Performance, and Security Management
CSED499 DPNM Lab.
Background
CSED499 DPNM Lab.
Network Performance Monitoring Network performance measurement and
visualization (MRTG, Network Weather Map) Simple prediction of network performance

Problem Definition and Goal
Problem Definition– No satisfactory solution available for network
performance forecast– Currently, low accuracy of forecasting network
traffic with static policies (thresholds)
Goal– Development of network traffic forecasting
system with high accuracy by dynamic policy planning
CSED499 DPNM Lab.
CSED499 DPNM Lab.
Method
Notification network trouble in advance with high accuracy– Collect network traffic data from network
elements by SNMP– Apply various algorithms for dynamic planning– Compare and evaluate each method– Find an optimal solution– Use the forecast value as a dynamic threshold
(notification before event) Validation
– Apply this method to NMS for POSTECH Network
CSED499 DPNM Lab.
Contribution
Dynamic Network Policy Planning (For manager)– Control– Limitation– Optimization– Network planning
Prevention from overuse of network resources (For user)
CSED499 DPNM Lab.
