HEALTH HAZARDS OF H2S
1 To 10 PPM – Smell of Rotten Eggs 15 PPM – Detectable Because of the Foul smell 50 To 100 PPM – Coughing, Slight Irritation to the eyes and loss of smell 150 To 250 PPM – Loss of the Sense of Smell, Throat and Eye Irritation 250 To 350 PPM – Irritation of the eye and Respiratory Tract 350 To 450 PPM – Difficulty in Breathing ,dizziness, Serious Respiratory
Disturbance 500 To 900 PPM – Respiratory Disturbances Irritation to the eyes and
unconsciousness 1000 PPM – Unconsciousness, slow pulse, Respiratory paralysis and
DEATH.
H2S DETECTIONS & ALARMS
• SENSOR ASSEMBLIES ARE LOCATED IN HAZARDOUS AREAS
• AUDIBLE AND VISUAL ALRAMS
• LOW ALARMS ACTIVATE AT 10 PPM WITH FLSHING LIGHT ONLY AMBER( YELLOW ) FOR H2S and BLUE FOR ( LEL )
• HIGH ALARMS ACTIVATE AT 15 PPM WITH FLASHING LIGHT AND AUDIBLE ALARM ( HORN OR SIREN )
PERSONAL MONITORS
• PREFERABLY TO BE WORN AT BELT LEVEL .
• SOUNDS LOW ALARM IF H2S REACHES 10PPM WITH AUDIBLE , VISUAL AND VIBRATION ALARM .
• TEST UNIT EACH DAY FOR OPERATION/FUNCTION
NOT A MEASURING DEVICE JUST A WARNING DEVICE! WHEN THE ALARM
SOUNDS GET OUT OF THE LOCATION.
ROUTES OF EGRESS (ESCAPE)
• Escape– Know the escape routes & alarms– Wear Safety equipment– Check for wind direction– Escape crosswind and upwind to Muster Point– Remember H2s is heavier than air
• Protect– Wear SCBA– Always have a back up– Bring victim out of contaminated area– Give First-Aid
– REMEMBER THE SHORTEST ROUTE IS NOT THE SAFEST ROUTE, ALWAYS USE THE SAFEST ROUTE
– AVOID SHORTCUTS
EMERGENCY ASSEMBLY AREAS
SAFE BREATHING AREA IS LOCATEDAT 3rd LEVEL NEAR LIFE BOAT STATIONS
• CONNECT YOUR BREATHING APPARATUS AIRLINE TO THE NEAREST MANIFOLD WHILE WAITING FOR FURTHER INSTRUCTION.
• ALWAYS REMEMBER YOUR ASSINGED STATION, WHERE YOU CAN FIND YOUR NAME TO AVOID CONFUSION AND FOR US TO EASILY DISTINGUISHED IF THERE IS MISSING PERSON ONBOARD.

EEBD ( Emergency Escape Breathing Device )
• APPARATUS HAS 10 OR 15 MINUTES LIFE SPAN
• DESIGNED FOR ESCAPE ONLY / NOT CERTIFIED AS A WORK SET .
• TO BE AT ARM LENGTH OR ATTACHED TO USER
• ONCE ALARM SOUNDS
• UNIT IS ACTIVATED AS POUCH IS OPENED
• PULL HOOD OVER HEAD AND ADJUST SEAL AT NECK
• MOVE TO SAFE AREA USING SAFE ESCAPE ROUTE
SABA ( Supplied Airline Breathing Apparatus
)
• APPARATUS HAS 10 OR 15 MINUTES LIFE SPAN
CYLINDER
• DESIGNED FOR WORK AND ESCAPE .
• IT HAS A PIGTAIL AIRLINE TO CONNECT TO AIRLOOP
CASCADE SYSTEM .
• THE USER FACE MUST BE

• THIRTY MINUTE AIR SUPPLY
• CARRIED ON THE BACK
• USE FOR EITHER ESCAPE, RESCUE OR RENTRY FOR LIMITED TIME

• MUST BE CLEAN SHAVEN
THAT WHEN YOU SEE A PERSON OR A WORKMATE BECAME UNCONSCIOUS AND SUDDENLY FELL
DOWN DO NOT ATTEMP OR TRY TO HELP HIM OR ELSE YOU WILL BE
ANOTHER VICTIM IF YOU ARE IN A LOCATION WHERE H2S MAY BE PRESENT IMMEDIATELY INFORM
THE COMPANY MAN, RIG MANAGER OR THE RESCUE TEAM GIVE THEM THE EXACT LOCATION OF THE PERSON
SO THEY CAN RESPOND WITH THEIR PROPER SAFETY EQUIPMENT.
