Something Special for the Marines

It only took one phone call to the right

person, and miracles started to happen. That’s how a

heroic group of Marines, heading home from

Afghanistan, found a dream trip for the last leg of their

journey.

The 13 Marines, led by Capt. Pravan Rajan, had had a

tough itinerary thus far four flights, with close

connections, en route to their California base. That’s

when Capt. Rajan’s fiancée had an idea: she called

O’Hare Airport in Chicago to ask if “something special”

could be done for their final flight.

She happened to get John Colas, 74, a former Marine

now a USO volunteer, and he swung into action. He had

little trouble persuading 15 Chicago police officers and a

like number of firefighters to serve as an honor guard

when the Marines got off their flight; then they escorted

themto the cheers of dozens of passengers through

the terminal.

The best was yet to come. They flew first class to

California, courtesy of American Airlines and seven

anonymous firstclass fliers who gave up theirs seats.

Said Colas; “We want these kids to realize that they

haven’t been forgotten.”

May we find ways to honor those who serve us Lord.

A little boy was overheard praying: “Lord, if you can’t

make me a better boy, don’t worry about it. I’m having a

real good time like I am.”

Kids pray in simple language. They ae direct and to the

point. They have a good sense of a relationship with

God. They trust. They’re not afraid.

In today’s Gospel Jesus is praying. He is grateful to

God for blessings received. He is thankful for God’s

generosity. God has handed over everything to Jesus.

Jesus is full of the love for has for Him.

Then Jesus invites all who labor and are burdened to

come to Him. That’s all of us. We can share our burdens

with God. When we do, we are praying.

What are some useful reminders for us when we pray?

Keep it simple. Use our ordinary language. Be direct.

Trust God with whatever we feel, think or desire. Pray

whenever we want through the day.

One particular fouryearold prayed: “And forgive us

our trash baskets as we forgive those who put trash in our

baskets.”

Like Jesus we can praise God; we can thank God; we

can ask God for needs, wants, and all kinds of longings.

In addition, we can ask for mercy, forgiveness and

healing. God wants a relationship with us. Jesus has

shown us the way. We have an open invitation to connect

with God. At any time we can share what is on our mind;

we can express what is in our hear; we can inform God

what is in our soul.

Little Caitlin struggled valiantly to say the entire Our

Father on her own. Her Mother listened as Caitlin

enunciated each word right up to the end of the prayer:

“And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from E

mail.

Like people, prayers come in all kinds. With God, all

prayers are welcome. God is waiting and listening. God

cares. May we fill the week with our own ordinary

prayers.

14th Sunday in Ordinary Time

“For my yoke is easy, and my burden light.”

Matthew 11:30

When we are being good stewards and

generously sharing our time and resources, we

need to remember that we are sharing the gifts

that God gave to us. Those things are not

exclusively ours. They are gifts, on loan, from

God. He asks that we give back, with gratitude,

some of what He has gifted to us.

NO MASK

NO MASS

We would like to welcome Jacob

Hugo to Corpus Christi Parish.

Jacob is a Seminarian for the

Diocese of Saginaw and he will be

staying at the rectory. Please pray for him and all of

our Seminarians.

Corpus Christi Parish is now using MyParishApp. This is a free app that can be downloaded to

your smartphone. This is another way that the parish can communicate with parishioners.

MyParishApp also is a great resource for prayers and all sorts of information. The weekly bulletin is

available through the app and also on our website.

The St. Vincent DePaul food pantry is open. Please call 989.280.3277 and leave

a message. Your call will be returned, and we will schedule an appointment for you

to pick up your food.

SMILE

Mass Attendance

Some of the guidelines we will follow are:

♦ The number of people attending Mass will be limited due to social distancing. Of 6 ft., which must be strictly

enforced. Families of the same household may sit together. The cry room, balcony and chapel will not be used for

any seating.

♦ Parishioners MUST call the parish office (8934073) before noon on Friday to reserve your place at Mass. When

the allotted number of persons are signed up for a Mass, no others will be allowed to attend. You are to check in at

the door. Additional Masses can be scheduled depending upon demand.

♦ MASKS ARE MANDATORY. ...NO MASK...NO MASS

♦ Masks that cover the mouth and nose must be worn when on parish grounds and in all buildings. The only time a

mask may be removed is to consume the Eucharist. Those who choose to wear gloves must remove them also to

receive the Eucharist.

♦ Communion will be received in the hand only. We are sympathetic to those who feel receiving communion on the

tongue is important, but for the safety of the priest and all parishioners, that practice will be discontinued for the

time being.

♦ There will be baskets near the Altar for contribution envelopes so that there is no community basket being passed.

We thank those who have continued to support the parish during this time!

♦ We will not be using worship aids at this time.

♦ Please exit directly from the church. Do not stop to visit or congregate.

It is understood that many may not be comfortable with returning to church at this time; that is why the bishop has

given dispensation until the end of August. Anyone who is ill, or those who are over 60 with underlying health issues

such as diabetes, heart or lung issues, etc. making them more vulnerable are encouraged to stay home.

No admittance or exit from the North Door (by the choir)

REMEMBER … You MUST RSVP for Mass every week!

Call the Parish Office before Noon on Friday.

Attention 2020 Graduates: We would like to honor our 2020 highschool & college graduates at

the 10:15 a.m. Mass on July 12th. Please call the Parish Office (8934073) to RSVP before July 8th.

We would also like a senior picture by the 8th.

An elderly gentleman was driving on the local freeway when his cell phone rang. It was his wife, who sounded frantic.

She warned him to be on the lookout for a wayward driver.

“Sherman, please be very careful! I just heard on the radio that there’s a driver on the freeway going in the

wrong direction!”

“Margaret, you should call that radio station and give them an update. It’s not just one driver. It’s every single blasted

car I pass!”

CHRISTIAN COFFEE HOUSE Our high school coffee house will remain closed until August. Watch for info on

our reopening as we hope to have a variety of special events!

PRAYER TO THE VIRGIN MARY

FOR PROTECTION

O Mary, you shine continuously on our journey as a

sign of salvation and hope.

We entrust ourselves to you, Health of the Sick.

At the foot of the Cross you participated in Jesus’

pain, with steadfast faith. You, Our Lady of the

Assumption, know what we need.

We are certain that you will provide, so that, as you

did at Cana of Galilee, joy and feasting might return

after this moment of trial.

Help us, Mother of Divine Love, to conform

ourselves to the Father’s will and to do what Jesus

tells us:

He who took our sufferings upon Himself, and bore

our sorrows to bring us, through the Cross, to the joy

of the Resurrection. Amen.

We seek refuge under your protection, O Holy

Mother of God. Do not despise our pleas we who

are put to the test and deliver us from every danger,

O glorious and blessed Virgin.

With assurances of my prayers for all of you, may

you experience, Peace and joy in Christ,

Most Rev. Robert D. Gruss

Bishop of Saginaw

PRAYER FOR INDEPENDENCE DAY

Dear God,

As we celebrate today

help us never to forget the reason for our joy. Help us

remember that our rights to life, liberty and the

pursuit of happiness were signed into our heritage

with the willing blood of American patriots. Most of

all, help us remember that the rights of all people are

more than words on a document, and that all people

have rights because you have given us the dignity of

human life. Grant freedom to all, and give us the

strength to protect the rights of others.

AMEN.

Wedding Anniversary Announcements

If you would like to have your Wedding

Anniversary announced in church during the

intercessions, please call the Parish Office at least two

weeks in advance. To avoid announcing mis

information, only those called in to the office will be

announced. If you would like it in the /bulletin we need

to know a month in advance .
