«Maslenitsa» is a Russian religious and folk holiday. It is celebrated during the last week before Great Lent—that is, the seventh week before Pascha (Easter).Farewell to winter and welcome spring.

Monday – MeetingOn the first day of the pancake week Russian people celebrated the

meeting of Maslenitsa. In the old days the

children in the morning went out to the street to build snow-capped

mountains. Baked pancakes is a symbol of

the sun and spring.

Tuesday – «Zaigryshi»

On «zaigryshi» in the morning the girls and

boys ride snow mountains and eat pancakes. Children

skate slide down the mountains.

Wednesday – «Lakomka»

Lakomka - mother-in-law was waiting to visit son-

in-law to feed their pancakes, and for fun

summoned all his family.

Thursday – "Razgul"

From Thursday pancake binge

unfolded into the full extent. The whole

world came to fisticuffs, the erection and the capture of the snow town, on horse racing, skating on ice

on the streets.

Saturday – «Zolovkiny posidelky» Sister-in-law gatherings

Young daughter invited to visit to her sister-in-law. Newly married daughter-sister-in-law was supposed to give any

gift.

Sunday (the Last day of Maslenitsa) -

forgiveness SundayIn the temples, in the evening

at the service, perform the ritual of. Then all believers,

bowing to each other, ask for forgiveness, and in response

to a request say "God will forgive."
