Acknowledgements: For whichever work a person is able to render on behalf of the Deen of Allaah Ta`aalaa, there is a need for vast Shukr (Gratitude) to Allaah `Azza wa Jall. This is because the person has been able to successfully carry out this work only with the Idhn (Permission) and Nusrah (Help) of Allaah Subhaanahu wa Ta`aalaa. Then, Allaah Subhaanahu wa Ta`aalaa commands us in the Qur’aan Kareem to be grateful to our parents; of all the people in our lives to whom we owe gratitude, we owe them the most gratitude. And, we know that Rasoolullaah

لم س ل يهو ال یع ع لیاللهت :has said in a Hadeeth ص

حدثناىنادحدثناابومعاويةعنابنابيليلىوحدثناسفيانبنوكيعحدثناحميدبنعبدالرحمانالرواسيعنابنابيليلىعنعطيةعنابيسعيدقال،قالرسولاللهصلىاللهعليووسلم:منلم

{رواهالترمذيفيسننو} “Hannaad narrated to us; Abu Mu`aawiyah narrated to us from Ibni Abi Laylaa, and Sufyaan bin Wakee` narrated to us; Humayd bin `Abdur Rahmaan ar-Ruwaasi narrated to us from Ibni Abi Laylaa, from `Atiyyah,

from Abi Sa`eed who said, “Rasoolullaah ل يهو ال یع ع لیاللهت لمص س said:

“The one who is not grateful to people will not be grateful to Allaah.” 1

Now that Rasoolullaah لم س ل يهو ال یع ع لیاللهت ,has expressed to us the importance of Shukr in this Hadeeth ص we learn from another Hadeeth the importance of being grateful to one’s parents in particular:

حدثنامحمدبنجعفرحدثناشعبةعنسليمانعنذكوانعنابيىريرةعنالنبيصلىاللهعليووسلمكلمولوديولدعلىالفطرةفأبواهيهودانووينصرانوويشركانو انوقال:

{رواهاحمدفيمسنده} “Muhammad bin Ja`far narrated to us; Shu`bah narrated to us from Sulaymaan, from Dhakwaan, from Hadhrat

Abu Hurayrah (Radhiyallaahu Ta`aalaa `Anhu), from Nabi لم س ل يهو ال یع ع لیاللهت :that he said ص

“Every child is born upon the Fitrah. Thereafter, his parents (if they are Jews) make him a Jew, (and if they are Christians) they make him a Christian, (and if they are Mushrikeen) they make him a Mushrik.”

2

So the kind of parents a person has is very important. Should his parents be Kuffaar, then this person will grow up as a Kaafir. Should they be Fussaaq, he too will grow up as a Faasiq. However, if his parents are pious Muslims, this will have a positive effect upon him from his birth. With the Fadhl of Allaah Subhaanahu wa Ta`aalaa, such a person will grow up as a Muslim.

I have made mention of all of this, because even before the preface of this Kitaab I wish to firstly take this opportunity to express Shukr (gratitude) to my parents. It is with the Idhn (Permission) of Allaah `Azza wa Jall and the efforts of my father, Adam ibn Yusuf aal-Ebrahim, and my mother, that Allaah Ta`aalaa had allowed me to acquire the `Ilm of Deen, which is a more valuable than the Dunyaa and everything it contains. For this priceless Ni`mat (Bounty), I owe gratitude to Allaah Subhaanahu wa Ta`aalaa, my parents, my Asaatidhah (Teachers), and my brothers and sisters.

My parents had exhausted every effort and made every sacrifice in order for me to acquire the `Ilm of Deen with the greatest of ease. For this, I make Du`aa that Allaah Subhaanahu wa Ta`aalaa rewards them as only He is capable of doing. Also, I have been fortunate to have received the Du`aas of my grandfather, Imaam Yusuf

ibn Muhammad aal-Ebrahim ل يه ال یع ع ةاللهت حم ,and along with the Fadhl of Allaah Subhaanahu wa Ta`aalaa ,ر whatever goodness I have attained in my life is through the Du`aas and Barakaat of my grandfather.

Then, with regards to my Asaatidhah, Mufti Rashid Ahmed Moosagie (Hafizhahullaahu Ta`aalaa) in particular, Maulana Hussain Muhammad (Hafizhahullaahu Ta`aalaa), and every person from whom I have acquired `Ilm, I ask Allaah `Azza wa Jall to bestow His Rahmat (Mercy) upon them, continue to exact Khidmah of Deen from them, and elevate their statuses, as Allaah Ta`aalaa Himself has promised to “raise the ranks of those who have Imaan from amongst you and those who have been granted `Ilm.” *Soorah al-Mujaadalah: 11]

Preface: In order to remedy a problem, it is essential to first of all know what its underlying cause is. A sickness cannot be treated without first ascertaining what caused it in the first place.

It goes without saying that, without knowing where the root causes of a problem lie a person can only be fooling himself in thinking he is in any way capable of putting an end to it. This is understood.

Then, one “sickness” which is rampant in the present age and which has, unfortunately, been plaguing the

Ummah of Rasoolullaah لم س ل يهو ال یع ع لیاللهت since the earliest days is the disease known as “Tash`ee”, or ص “Shi’ism”. This particular disease has been in existence since the time of the Khilaafah of Ameer-ul-Mu’mineen,

Dhun Noorayn (The Possessor of Two Lights), Hadhrat `Uthmaan ibn `Affaan نه ال یع ع اللهت ضي as for the ;ر reasons, then they are too many to enumerate in this short Kitaab and would require lengthy explanations, all of which are not the purport for the authoring of this Kitaab. In short, it was brought about by Shaytaan, and

the Kufr which was inherent and deeply embedded in the hearts of some Kuffaar لعنةاللهعليهم.

We will not deal here with the reason for the mushrooming up of this accursed sect, but rather with the reason for some alleged Muslims being confused/intimidated/deviated/influenced by it.

Firstly, understand well that the Deen of the Muslimeen comes from Allaah Subhaanahu wa Ta`aalaa and from

Rasoolullaah لم س ل يهو ال یع ع لیاللهت انالله but was conveyed to us by none other than the Sahaabah ,ص رضو ل يهم ال یع ع Without them, we would have possessed no Qur’aan, no Sunnah and no Islaam. Allaah Ta`aalaa .ت

Himself selected each and every one of the As-haab of Rasoolullaah لم س ل يهو ال یع ع لیاللهت and entrusted ص them with the enormous duty of conveying the Kalaam of Allaah Ta`aalaa as well the speech, actions,

mannerisms, likes, dislikes, biography and lifestyle of His Rasool لم س ل يهو ال یع ع لیاللهت collectively known ,ص as the “Sunnah”, to all those Muslims who would appear up until the Last Hour.

When the Kuffaar, shortly after the demise of Rasoolullaah لم س ل يهو ال یع ع لیاللهت witnessed with their ,ص own eyes how Islaam was spreading to every corner of the world, or, as Allaah Ta`aalaa Himself says,

افواجاللهيتالناسيدخلونفيديناأور {“And you see Mankind entering into the Deen of Allaah in groups and groups...”}

1

When they saw this, they realised that, weaklings and cowards as they are, they would fail miserably to ever destroy Islaam by physically fighting and defeating the Muslim Armies. As a result, they devised a plan to attempt to do away with Islaam and with the very message which Islaam came with, by attacking it from within. The result of this Shaytaani plot is what is known as “Shi’ism”. The first step they took and their primary objective was to remove from the hearts of the Muslimeen the love, honour and reverence for the Sahaabah

(Companions) of Rasoolullaah س ل يهو ال یع ع لیاللهت لمص as well as his Azwaaj (Wives) نهيل ع اللهانو ضر . Very

cunningly they professed severe and undying love for a small number of the close family of Rasoolullaah لی ص لم س ل يهو ال یع ع whilst hating, cursing, insulting, deriding, criticising, mocking and slandering the rest of the اللهت

beloved family of Rasoolullaah لم س ل يهو ال یع ع لیاللهت which includes his wives first of all, as well as the rest ص

of the Sahaabah ل يهم ال یع ع اناللهت .رضو

Coming now to the point of the discussion: Only those people will fall prey to the trap of the Shi`a Kuffaar who, from the very beginning, never had any love and reverence in their hearts for the Sahaabah of Rasoolullaah

لم س ل يهو ال یع ع لیاللهت and his Azwaaj. Take note: A person who loves, respects and honours Hadhrat ص

`Aa’ishah ا نه ال یع ع اللهت ضي will never be taken in by Kuffaar who accuse her of committing a Faahishah (a ر shameless act). This, then, is the primary objective of this Kitaab; if love for the wives and Sahaabah of

Rasoolullaah لم س ل يهو ال یع ع لیاللهت can be kindled, the snares of the Shi`a Rawaafidh shall be rendered ص entirely ineffectual. 1 Soorah an-Nasr, 111:2.

Page 7: ةَ üجَْل¦َ©ُ¦دَِّيَسَ · “Shi’ism”. This particular disease has been in existence since the time of the Khilaafah of Ameer-ul-Mu’mineen, Dhun Noorayn (The

7

Once the person begins to realise what was the status of each and every one of the Sahaabah of Rasoolullaah

لم س ل يهو ال یع ع لیاللهت who have been described as “stars”, and understands what sacrifices they had ,ص undertaken and what difficulties they had undergone in the cause of Islaam, as well as understands their

Imaan, their love for Allaah and His Rasool لم س ل يهو ال یع ع لیاللهت their Jihaad, their `Ibaadah, their ,ص Akhlaaq, etc, then, far from being talked over by a Kaafir Shi`a into believing that they were Kuffaar, Zhaalimeen (Oppressors) and Mujrimeen (Criminals), he will instead reach a state in which he loves whoever

loves them (the Sahaabah ل يهم ال یع ع اناللهت ل يهن and the Ummahaat-ul-Mu’mineen رضو ال یع ع اناللهت (رضو and hate whoever hates them. He will be willing to sacrifice his own life to uphold their honour.

When a person realises that the Azwaaj (Wives) of Rasoolullaah لم س ل يهو ال یع ع لیاللهت are, as Allaah ,ص Ta`aalaa Himself has described them, “The Ummahaat-ul-Mu’mineen) (The Mothers of The Mu’mineen), what heed will he give to the slanders of the vile Shi`as who declare them to be Kuffaar?

Allaah Ta`aalaa says,

۔۔۔هاتهمالنبياولیبالمؤمنينمنانفسهموازواجوام

{“An-Nabi لم س ل يهو ال یع ع لیاللهت is closer to the Mu’mineen than they are to their own selves, and his wives ص are their mothers... (Ilaa Aakhiril Aayah).”}

1

If one examines this Aayah, Allaah Ta`aalaa says, “...And his wives are their mothers”, meaning, the mothers of the Mu’mineen. Allaah Ta`aalaa does not say that they are the mothers of the Kaafireen. Furthermore, Allaah

Ta`aalaa is clearly stating that for whoever the wives of Rasoolullaah لم س ل يهو ال یع ع لیاللهت ,are mothers to ص those people are Mu’mineen. The Ahl-ut-Tash`ee (Shi`as) reject them, curse them, slander them and go as far

as to make Takfeer of them (declare them to be Kuffaar). Hence, the Azwaaj (Wives) of Rasoolullaah لیالله ص لم س ل يهو ال یع ع are not the mothers of the Shi`a, and the Shi`as are not Mu’mineen according to Allaah ت Rabbul `Izzah Himself.

Due to the enmity nurtured and displayed by the Shi`a Kuffaar towards Umm-ul-Mu’mineen Hadhrat `Aa’ishah

ا نه ال یع ع اللهت ضي لم in particular, from amongst all the wives of Rasoolullaah ر س ل يهو ال یع ع لیاللهت a ,ص special chapter in this Kitaab is dedicated to the ruling regarding the one who speaks ill of her.

I ask Allaah Ta`aalaa to accept this effort of mine and make it a means of benefit to all those who read it, and a benefit to myself in terms of Thawaab (Reward) both in this Dunyaa and in the Aakhirah, Aameen.

This is as far as the lineage of Rasoolullaah لم س ل يهو ال یع ع لیاللهت goes from authentic sources. Others add ص many more names onto this list, but it is unauthentic.

Imaam Abu Muhammad `Abdul Malik ibn Hishaam is amongst those who report a longer lineage of

Rasoolullaah لم س ل يهو ال یع ع لیاللهت :in the following manner ص

01) Umm-ul-Mu’mineen Hadhrat Khadeejah al-Kubraa

اهن یعالعت اللهيضر بلکنبيصقنیبزعالدبعنبدسانبدليوختنبجةيدخ

She was the first wife of Rasoolullaah لم س ل يهو ال یع ع لیاللهت Hadhrat Khadeejah bint Khuwaylid ibn Asad :ص ibn `Abd-ul-`Uzzaa ibn Qusayy ibn Kilaab.

1

Rasoolullaah لم س ل يهو ال یع ع لیاللهت married her when he was twenty five years old, and she (Hadhrat ص

Khadeejah ا نه ال یع ع اللهت ضي لم passed away three years prior to the Hijrah, and he ر س ل يهو ال یع ع لیاللهت ص did not marry any other woman during her lifetime.

2

Prior to her marriage to Rasoolullaah لم س ل يهو ال یع ع لیاللهت which took place when she was forty years of ص age, she was married to `Ateeq ibn `Aabid ibn `Abdullaah ibn `Umar ibn Makhzoom, and bore for him a child whose name was “`Abdullaah”.

3

Thereafter, `Ateeq passed away and she married Abu Haalah, whose name was Hind ibn Zuraarah ibn an-Nabbaash, ibn `Adiyy, ibn Habeeb, ibn Surad, ibn Salaamah, ibn Jarwah, ibn Usayyid, ibn `Amr, ibn Tameem. And she bore for him two sons and one daughter. The two boys were Hind and Haarith, and the name of this daughter was Zaynab.

As for Hind ibn Hind, then he had accepted Islaam at the hands of Rasoolullaah لم س ل يهو ال یع ع لیاللهت and ص participated in the battle of Uhud, and later on moved to Basrah, which became the abode from which he departed from this Dunyaa. Amongst those who narrated Ahaadeeth from him is Hadhrat Hasan ibn `Ali ibn

Abee Taalib نه ال یع ع اللهت ضي .ر

As for al-Haarith; what is known about him is that he had accepted Islaam, and was (the time is not known or mentioned by the Mu’arrikheen) killed at Ar-Rukn-ul-Yamaani.

4

In my limited research, I have not discovered any information as to what happened to this daughter (from Abu Haalah) whose name was Zaynab. Allaahu A`lam.

After the passing away of both of her husbands, many noble people in the community were desirous of marrying her on account of her nobility, respect and wealth. However, Allaah Ta`aalaa decreed that she

become the wife of the greatest of His Makhlooq (Creation), Rasoolullaah لم س ل يهو ال یع ع لیاللهت .ص

At the age of twenty five, Rasoolullaah لم س ل يهو ال یع ع لیاللهت ,had, on the advice of his uncle, Abu Taalib ص

begun working as an agent for Hadhrat Khadeejah bint Khuwaylid ض ار نه ال یع ع اللهت ي . He would travel on business trips from Makkah Mukarramah to Shaam wherein which he would sell the merchandise of hers which he had brought with him. Maysarah witnessed many strange incidents on these trips he would take with Rasoolullaah ل يه ال یع ع لیاللهت ص لم س .و

One such incident narrated by him is that one day, on the way to Shaam, they stopped over to rest by a tree.

Here a Raahib (Monk) met him (Maysarah), and inquired from him as to who was that man (Nabi ال ی ع لیاللهت ص لم س ل يهو لم Maysarah replied that he (Nabi .(ع س ل يهو ال یع ع لیاللهت was a Qurayshi, from Makkah. The (ص Raahib replied that he is destined to become a Nabi, as I (the Monk) have seen in him two signs of the one who will be Khaatam-un-Nabiyyeen (The Seal of the Ambiyaa), and these are recorded in the scriptures of old.

Hadhrat Khadeejah ا نه ال یع ع اللهت ضي ال ی came to know of the noble qualities of Rasoolullaah ر ع لیاللهت ص لم س ل يهو لم from her servant Maysarah, who had observed Rasoolullaah ع س ل يهو ال یع ع لیاللهت carefully, as ص

well as from others. Rasoolullaah لم س ل يهو ال یع ع لیاللهت had already become famously known through-out ص Makkah Mukarramah as “Al-Ameen”, meaning “The One Who is Trustworthy”.

Hadhrat Khadeejah ا نه ال یع ع اللهت ضي ل يه had by now desired to get married to Rasoolullaah ر ال یع ع لیاللهت ص لم س .She sent a marriage proposal through Nafeesah, who was the sister of Ya`laa ibn Umayyah .و

Rasoolullaah لم س ل يهو ال یع ع لیاللهت accepted the proposal, and his uncles, Hadhrat Hamzah ibn `Abdul ص

The Nikaah was held at the home of Hadhrat Khadeejah ا نه ال یع ع اللهت ضي and the uncles of Rasoolullaah , ر

Hadhrat Khadeejah ا نه ال یع ع اللهت ضي had already passed away, so from her family only her uncle, whose ر name was `Amr ibn Asad, participated in the occasion. The Mahr was five hundred Dirhams, and the Nikaah was completed.

Rasoolullaah لم س ل يهو ال یع ع لیاللهت ا had seven children by Hadhrat Khadeejah ص نه ال یع ع اللهت ضي three ; ر sons and four daughters. The three sons were Qaasim, `Abdullaah and Taahir (or Tayyib, as it appears in other narrations. The Mu’arrikhoon have a difference of opinion in this matter). Umm-ul-Mu’mineen Hadhrat `Aa’ishah ا نه ال یع ع اللهت ضي narrates: “The commencement of Wahi to ر

Rasoolullaah س ل يهو ال یع ع لیاللهت لمص was in the form of good dreams which came true like bright day light, and then the love of seclusion was bestowed upon him. He used to go in seclusion in the cave of Hira where he used to worship (Allaah alone) continuously for many days before he would return to his family. He used to

take with him provisions for his stay there and then come back to (his wife) Hadhrat Khadeejah ال ی ع اللهت ضي ر ا نه to take his food like-wise until the Haqq descended upon him while he was in the cave of Hira. The Angel ع

not know how to read. Rasoolullaah لم س ل يهو ال یع ع لیاللهت added, "The angel caught me (forcefully) and ص pressed me so hard that I could not bear it any more. He then released me and again asked me to read and I replied, 'I do not know how to read.' Thereupon he caught me again and pressed me a second time till I could not bear it any more. He then released me and again asked me to read but again I replied, 'I do not know how to read (or what shall I read)?' Thereupon he caught me for the third time and pressed me, and then released me and said, 'Read in the Name of your Rabb, who has created (all that exists) has created Insaan from a clot.

Read! And your Rabb is the Most Generous." (Soorat-ul-Iqra’, 96: 1, 2, 3) Then Rasoolullaah ل يه ال یع ع لیاللهت ص لم س returned with the Wahi and with his heart beating severely. He went to Hadhrat Khadeejah bint و

Khuwaylid ا نه ال یع ع اللهت ضي and said, "Cover me! Cover me!" So she covered him until the fear departed ر from him, and after that he told her everything that had happened and said, "I fear that something may happen to me." Hadhrat Khadeejah (Radhiyallaahu `Anha) replied, "Never! Wallaahi, Allaah will never disgrace you. You keep good relations with your kith and kin, help the poor and the destitute, serve your guests

generously and assist the deserving calamity-afflicted ones." Hadhrat Khadeejah ا نه ال یع ع اللهت ضي then ر accompanied him to her cousin Waraqah ibn Nawfal ibn Asad ibn `Abdul `Uzzaa, who, during Ayyaam-ul-Jaahiliyyah (The Period of Ignorance) had become a Christian and used to write Hebrew; He would write from the Injeel in Hebrew as much as Allaah wished him to write. He was an old man and had lost his eyesight.

Hadhrat Khadeejah ا نه ال یع ع اللهت ضي said to Waraqah, "Listen to the story of your nephew!" Waraqah ر

asked, "O my nephew! What have you seen?" Rasoolullaah لم س ل يهو ال یع ع لیاللهت described whatever he ص

had seen. Waraqah said, "This is the same Naamoos (Angel) whom Allaah had sent to Nabi Moosaa ل يه ع م ل ال ی I wish I could live up to the time when your people would turn you out." Rasoolullaah .الس ع لیاللهت ص لم س ل يهو asked, "Will they drive me out?" Waraqah replied in the affirmative and said, "Anyone (man) who ع came with something similar to what you have brought was treated with hostility; and if I should remain alive till the day when you will be turned out then I would support you strongly." But after a few days Waraqah died and the Wahi was also paused for a while.”

The name of her mother was Ash-Shamoos bint Qays ibn Zaid of Bani `Adiyy ibn An-Najjaar of the tribe of Khazraj.

Her first husband was As-Sakraan ibn `Amr ibn `Abd ash-Shams Radhiyallaahu Ta`aalaa `Anhu, the brother of Suhail ibn `Amr, and he passed away whilst married to her.

3 Allaah Rabbul `Aalameen had made her (Hadhrat

Sawdah Radhiyallaahu Ta`aalaa `Anhaa), a Sabab (cause) for her husband (Hadhrat Sakraan ibn `Amr Radhiyallaahu Ta`aalaa `Anhu) accepting Islaam, on account of her Da`wah to him.

She and her husband (Radhiyallaahu Ta`aalaa `Anhumaa) were amongst the earliest Muslims who accepted

Hadhrat Sawdah ا نه ال یع ع اللهت ضي arrived back in Makkah, but the situation was the same as it had been at ر the time of her departure; the Muslimeen were still being persecuted by the Kuffaar. This was a few days after the demise of Hadhrat Khadeejah al-Kubraa ا نه ال یع ع اللهت ضي and Rasoolullaah ر

Imaam ibn al-Atheer al-Jazari ل يه ال یع ع ةاللهت حم ا said, “Even if Hadhrat `Aa’ishah ر نه ال یع ع اللهت ضي were to ر have had no other special Fadheelah (Virtue) other than the Story of Ifk (mention in the Qur’aan in which her name is cleared and she is praised more highly), then that alone would have sufficed as a (great enough) Fadheelah and lofty rank, for indeed there was revealed concerning her (innocence, purity and high status) in the Qur’aan that which will be read until the Day of Qiyaamah.”

3

The story of Ifk being referred to above is explained in detail in Saheeh al-Bukhaari and is reproduced below:

Hadhrat `Aa’ishah ا نه ال یع ع اللهت ضي narrates that, “Whenever Rasoolullaah intended to go on a journey he ر

would draw lots amongst his wives, and would take with him the one on whom the lot fell. Rasoolullaah لی ص لم س ل يهو ال یع ع drew lots amongst us for one of the Ghazawaat (battles) in which he fought, and the lot اللهت fell to me so I went with him. This was after the Amr (Order) of Hijaab had been revealed.

I was carried (on the back of a camel) in my Howdaj and would be placed down when we stopped. We went on

until Rasoolullaah لم س ل يهو ال یع ع لیاللهت completed that Ghazwah (battle) of his and returned. When we ص

approached Madeenah, (we had been travelling but had stopped for rest and) Rasoolullaah ع لیاللهت ل يهص ال یع لم س announced during the night that it was time for departure. So when they announced the news of و departure, I got up and went away from the army camps, and after answering the call of nature I came back to my camel. However, I found that a necklace belonging to me made from Zhifaar beads was missing. I returned (to where I had gone earlier when answering the call of nature) to look for my necklace and this search delayed me (from proceeding with the army).

In the meantime, the people who used to carry me put the Howdaj on the camel and carried it along, thinking that I was in it. In those days, the women used to be very light for they did not get fat, and flesh did not cover their bodies in abundance because they only ate very little food. On account of this, the lightness of the Howdaj did not cause them to think anything was amiss when they lifted it, and on top of that, I was a very young girl at that time. So, they let the camel rise and all of them left along with it.

I found my necklace after the army had already proceeded on their journey some distance. I came to their camping place and found no caller and no answerer. I decided to go back to the place where I used to stay, thinking that they would find out that I was missing and would return to get me. Whilst I was sitting there, I fell

asleep. Hadhrat Safwaan ibn al-Mu`attal as-Sulami adh-Dhakwaani نه ال یع ع اللهت ضي was behind the army (in ر

Page 24: ةَ üجَْل¦َ©ُ¦دَِّيَسَ · “Shi’ism”. This particular disease has been in existence since the time of the Khilaafah of Ameer-ul-Mu’mineen, Dhun Noorayn (The

24

those days, when the armies would travel it was their habit to keep one man a bit of a distance behind, so if they lost anything during the course of the journey, he would recover it on his way). In the morning, he reached my place and saw the figure of a person sleeping. He recognised me as he had seen me before the order of Hijaab had been revealed. When he saw me, he recited the Istirjaa` (Innaa Lillaahi wa Innaa Ilayhi Raaji`oon), and I woke up. I covered my face with my veil immediately, and Wallaahi, he did not speak a single

word to me and I did not hear a single word from him other than the Istirjaa` . He made his camel kneel down and placed his legs on its front legs (so that I could mount the camel easier) and I mounted it. He went ahead, leading the camel until we arrived by the army who had halted on account of the mid-day heat. Thereafter, (on account of this event) those who were destroyed were destroyed (on account of spreading the slander of Ifk), and the one who headed the spreading of the slander was `Abdullaah ibn Ubayy ibn Salool.

After we returned to Madeenah, I became ill for a month. The people were spreading the statements of the people of Ifk whilst I was unaware of any of it. However, I detected that in my present illness, I was not

receiving the same kindness of Rasoolullaah ل س ل يهو ال یع ع لیاللهت مص like how I used to receive when I

became ill. Rasoolullaah لم س ل يهو ال یع ع لیاللهت would only come, greet me and ask, “How are you?” and ص would leave thereafter. That raised my doubts (that everything was okay), but I did not discover the evil until

after I had gone out following my recovery. I went out with Hadhrat Umm Mistah ا نه ال یع ع اللهت ضي -to al ر Manaasi`, the place where we would answer the call of nature, and we never used to go out except at night, and this was before we had latrines near to our homes. This affair of ours was similar to the old `Arabs, for it

would be troublesome for us to take latrines near our houses. So I and Umm Mistah ا نه ال یع ع اللهت ضي who ,ر was the daughter of Abu Ruhm ibn al-Muttalib ibn `Abd Manaaf, and whose mother was the daughter of Sakhr

ibn `Aamir, the Aunt of Hadhrat `Abu Bakr as-Siddeeq نه ال یع ع اللهت ضي and whose son was Mistah ibn ,ر

Uthaathah, went out. I and Umm Mistah ا نه ال یع ع اللهت ضي returned to my house after we had finished ر

answering the call of nature. Umm Mistah ا نه ال یع ع اللهت ضي stumbled as he foot got tangled in her covering ر sheet, and she said, “Let Mistah be ruined!” I said, “Evil is that which you have said. Do you abuse a man who took part in the Battle of Badr?” She replied, “O Hantaah! Did you not hear what he said?” I asked, “What did he say?” She told me about the slander of the people of Ifk. (Hearing this) added sickness to my sickness.

When I reached my home, Rasoolullaah لم س ل يهو ال یع ع لیاللهت entered and, after greeting me, asked, “How ص are you?” I said, “Will you allow me to go my parents?” At that time, I wanted to confirm by them if the news

was true. Rasoolullaah لم س ل يهو ال یع ع لیاللهت allowed me and I went to my parents. I asked my mother, “O ص mother! What are the people talking about?” She replied, “O my daughter, do not worry, for there has hardly ever been a woman who is both good-natured as well as beautiful, and is married to a man who loves her, except that they (i.e. women) would find faults with her.” I said, “Subhaanallaah! Are the people really talking like this?” I kept on weeping that night until dawn, and got no sleep.

Rasoolullaah لم س ل يهو ال یع ع لیاللهت نه called Hadhrat `Ali ibn Abi Taalib ص ال یع ع اللهت ضي and Hadhrat ر

Usaamah ibn Zayd نه ال یع ع اللهت ضي when the Wahi (concerning my affair) was delayed, consulting them ,ر

about divorcing his family (i.e. divorcing me). As for Hadhrat Usaamah ibn Zayd نه ال یع ع اللهت ضي then he ,ر said that which he knew of my innocence, and the respect preserved in himself for me. He said, “Yaa

Rasoolallaah ل س ل يهو ال یع ع لیاللهت مص , (she is) your family, and we do not know anything except goodness about her.”

Hadhrat `Ali ibn Abi Taalib نه ال یع ع اللهت ضي لم said, “Yaa Rasoolallaah ر س ل يهو ال یع ع لیاللهت Allaah does ,ص not put you in difficulty and there are plenty of women other than her; nevertheless, if you ask the slave-girl

and she will tell you the truth.” So Rasoolullaah لم س ل يهو ال یع ع لیاللهت -called Bareerah (who was the slave ص

girl) and asked her, “O Bareerah, have you ever seen anything (from Hadhrat `Aa’ishah ا نه ال یع ع اللهت ضي (ر which aroused your suspicion?” She replied, “By the One Who sent you with the Haqq! I have never seen anything regarding her which I would conceal, except that she is a young girl who sleeps while leaving the dough of her family exposed and because of that, the goats come and eat it.”

On that day, Rasoolullaah لم س ل يهو ال یع ع لیاللهت stood on the Mimbar, complained about `Abdullaah ibn ص Ubayy ibn Salool

1 and said, “O Gathering of Muslimeen! Who will relieve me from that man who has hurt me

1 `Abdullaah ibn Ubayy ibn Salool was the leader of the Munaafiqeen.

with his evil statement about my family? 1 Wallaahi, I know nothing except goodness about my family, and

they (the slanderers) have blamed a man about whom I know nothing except good and who never entered upon my family except with me.”

Hadhrat Sa`d ibn Mu`aadh al-Ansaari نه ال یع ع اللهت ضي stood up and said, “Yaa Rasoolallaah Sallallaahu ر

`Alayhi wa Sallam, I will relieve you of him; if he is from the clan of al-Aws, I will strike his neck (with the sword), and if he is from our brothers, (the clan of) al-Khazraj, then command us and we will fulfil your order.”

Hadhrat Sa`d ibn `Ubaadah الله ضي نهر ال یع ع ت , who was the leader of al-Khazraj, stood up and said, “You have lied! He was a pious man, but his love (i.e. `Asabiyyah) clan caused him to say to Hadhrat Sa`d ibn Mu`aadh

نه ال یع ع اللهت ضي By Allaah, you have lied! Neither will you kill him (a man from our clan of al-Khazraj) nor“ ,ر

will you be able to kill him!” Hadhrat Usayd ibn Hudhayr نه ال یع ع اللهت ضي who was a cousin of Hadhrat Sa`d ,ر

ibn Mu`aadh نه ال یع ع اللهت ضي ضي said to Hadhrat Sa`d ibn `Ubaadah ,ر نهر ال یع ع اللهت , “(It is) You (who have) lied! By Allaah, we will kill him, and you are a Munaafiq arguing on behalf of the Munaafiqeen!”

On this, the two clans (al-Aws and al-Khazraj) became excited to the point that they were about to fight whilst

Rasoolullaah لم س ل يهو ال یع ع لیاللهت was on the Mimbar, so he did not cease quietening them until they ص became silent and so did he.

All of that day I kept on weeping with my tears never ceasing, and I could not sleep. In the morning my parents were with me, and I remained in this condition (i.e. crying incessantly) until I thought that my liver would burst.

Whilst this was taking place; i.e. I was crying and my parents were sitting with, a woman from the Ansaar sought permission to enter and, when she came in, sat down and also began weeping with me.

Rasoolullaah لم س ل يهو ال یع ع لیاللهت entered, greeted us and sat down. He had not sat with me since the ص

day of the slander. A month had passed and no Wahi had come regarding my case. Rasoolullaah ال ی ع لیاللهت ص لم س ل يهو -first recited the Tashah-hud and then said, “Ammaa Ba`d! O `Aa’ishah, I have been informed so ع and-so about you; if you are innocent, Allaah will soon reveal your innocence, and if you have committed a sin, then make Istighfaar (seek forgiveness from Allaah) and make Tawbah (repent), for when a slave realises his sin and turns to Allaah in repentance, Allaah accepts his repentance.”

When Rasoolullaah لم س ل يهو ال یع ع لیاللهت completed his speech, my tears stopped flowing completely such ص

that I no longer felt a single drop of tea flowing. I said to my father, “Reply to Rasoolullaah ل يه ال یع ع لیاللهت ص لم س on my behalf concerning what he has said.” My father said, “Wallaahi, I do not know what to say to و

Rasoolullaah لم س ل يهو ال یع ع لیاللهت I then said to my mother, “Reply to Rasoolullaah ”.ص ل يهو ال یع ع لیاللهت ص لم on my behalf concerning what he has said.” She replied, “Wallaahi, I do not know what to say to س

Rasoolullaah لم س ل يهو ال یع ع لیاللهت ”.ص

So I said, and at that time I was a young girl who had not read much of the Qur’aan, “Wallaahi, I know that you people have heard this story and that is has settled into yourselves (minds) so much so that, if I were to say to you that I am innocent and Allaah knows that I am innocent, you will not believe me. However, if I admit to something which Allaah knows I am innocent of, you will believe me. Wallaahi, I do not find for (me and) you

an example except the statement of the father of Nabi Yusuf ل م ل يهالس who said, “(For me) Sabr is most ,ع beautiful (i.e. most fitting) and Allaah is the One Whose Help is sought against that which you claim.” Thereafter, I turned to the side and lay down on my bed, and I knew that I was innocent and that Allaah would reveal that I was innocent; however, Wallaahi, I had never thought that Allaah would reveal concerning my case, Wahi which would be recited (for all eternity) as I considered myself unworthy of Allaah speaking

1 In this complaint and the resultant response from Hadhrat Sa`d ibn Mu`aadh نه ال یع ع اللهت ضي is a Daleel ر

لم س ل يهو ال یع ع لیاللهت ,whether by insulting (i.e. whether by harming him or harming those whom he love) ص slandering or in whichever way it might be.

regarding my matter with something recited. However, I hoped that Rasoolullaah لم س ل يهو ال یع ع لیاللهت ص

would see a dream through which Allaah would declare my innocence. But, Wallaahi, before Rasoolullaah لی ص لم س ل يهو ال یع ع had even left his seat and before any of the family members had left, the Wahi came to اللهت him. So there overcame him the hard condition which used to overcome him (when he would receive Wahi). The perspiration was dripping from his body like pearls even though it was a wintry day, and that was due to the weighty statement which was being revealed to him.

When that state passed from Rasoolullaah لم س ل يهو ال یع ع لیاللهت ,he smiled, and the first thing he said was ,ص “O `Aa’ishah, Allaah `Azza wa Jall has exonerated you.”

1

My mother said to me, “Stand up and go to him (Rasoolullaah لم س ل يهو ال یع ع لیاللهت ,I replied, “Wallaahi ”.(ص I will not go to him, and I will praise none but Allaah `Azza wa Jall.” And Allaah revealed (the Aayaat):

۔۔۔منکمبةانالذينجآؤوبالافکعص }“Verily! Those who spread the slander are a gang among you...”{

The Ten Aayaat in their entirety.

When Allaah revealed these Aayaat declaring me to be innocent, Hadhrat Abu Bakr as-Siddeeq ال ی ع اللهت ضي ر نه ,who used to give money to Mistah ibn Uthaathah due to his relationship to him and his poverty, said ,ع “Wallaahi, I will never again give a single thing to Mistah ibn Uthaathah after what he has said regarding

However, Allaah revealed:

“And let not those among you who are good and wealthy swear not to give to their relatives, those in need and those who have left their homes in the Path of Allaah; let them pardon and forgive. Do you not love that Allaah should forgive you? And Allaah is oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.”

3

Hadhrat Abu Bakr as-Siddeeq نه ال یع ع اللهت ضي said, “Definitely, I love that Allaah should forgive me.” So he ر returned to giving Mistah that which he used to give him before, and said, “Wallaahi, I will never take it (this expenditure) away from him.”

Hadhrat `Aa’ishah ا نه ال یع ع اللهت ضي لم continues, “Rasoolullaah ر س ل يهو ال یع ع لیاللهت used to ask Hadhrat ص

Zaynab bint Jahsh ا نه ال یع ع اللهت ضي about my case. He asked her, “What do you know or what did (his wife) ر

Her brother was Hadhrat `Abdullaah ibn Jahsh نه ال یع ع اللهت ضي .ر 3

Prior to her marriage to Rasoolullaah ال ی ع لیاللهت لمص س ل يهو ع , she was married to his freed slave, Hadhrat

Originally, when Rasoolullaah لم س ل يهو ال یع ع لیاللهت put in the proposal on behalf of Hadhrat Zayd ibn ص

Haarithah الله ضي ار نه ال یع ع ت , she refused due to the fact that he was a freed slave whilst she was from the most noble of the Quraysh.

5 Thereafter, this Aayah was revealed:

{“It is not for a believing man or a believing woman, when Allaah and His Rasool decree any matter, that they should have any choice in their matter. And, whosoever disobeys Allaah and His Rasool has deviated with a

After the revelation of this Aayah, Hadhrat Zaynab bint Jahsh ا نه ال یع ع اللهت ضي agreed to marry Hadhrat ر

However, after the marriage, there were frequent quarrels, and Hadhrat Zayd نه ال یع ع اللهت ضي would ر

have no desire to keep them (i.e. have divorced them).

And the Command of Allaah must be fulfilled.”} 1

The meaning of “You hid in yourself that which Allaah will make manifest” is that Allaah Ta`aalaa had informed

Rasoolullaah لم س ل يهو ال یع ع لیاللهت ال ی that Hadhrat Zaynab bint Jahsh ص ع اللهت ضي ار نه ع will be from

amongst his wives, but when Hadhrat Zayd ibn Haarithah نه ال یع ع اللهت ضي used to come to him, he would ر advise him, saying, “Keep your wife, and fear Allaah”, and he would not mention this.

2

After the revelation of this Aayah, Allaah Ta`aalaa Himself conducted the marriage of Rasoolullaah لیالله ص لم س ل يهو ال یع ع ا to Hadhrat Zaynab bint Jahsh ت نه ال یع ع اللهت ضي hence there was no marriage contract, no , ر Wali, no Mahr (Dowry) and no witnesses.

3

She was the first of the wives of Rasoolullaah لم س ل يهو ال یع ع لیاللهت to pass away after his demise; she ص passed away during the very beginning of the Khilaafah of Ameer-ul-Mu’mineen Hadhrat `Umar ibn al-

Khattaab ن ال یع ع اللهت ضي هر . 4

However, `Allaamah ibn Sa`d ل يه ال یع ع ةاللهت حم ل يه and Imaam ibn al-Atheer ر ال یع ع ةاللهت حم hold a ر different view; according to them, she passed away in the year 20 A.H., and that means her death was in the

end of the Khilaafah of Hadhrat `Umar نه ال یع ع اللهت ضي .during in the beginning ,ر 5

She was that wife of Rasoolullaah لم س ل يهو ال یع ع لیاللهت who, when the lands were conquered by the ص Muslimeen and she was given her share of the spoils of war, (due to the immensity of the wealth) she cried, lamented and asked Allaah `Azza wa Jall that He let her not see the following year, but rather let her meet

Rasoolullaah لم س ل يهو ال یع ع لیاللهت in the same condition she was in along with him when he departed ص from this world; that of possessing little in the Dunyaa. She passed away before the end of the year.

6

From the Ummahaat-ul-Mu’mineen, Hadhrat Zaynab ا نه ال یع ع اللهت ضي was the one who gave the most in ر

Sadaqah. Hence, prior to the demise of Rasoolullaah لم س ل يهو ال یع ع لیاللهت he said, “The one from ,ص amongst you who will meet with me again the soonest is the one with the longest hands.” The wives of

Rasoolullaah لم س ل يهو ال یع ع لیاللهت had taken this literally and began measuring their hands to see who ص

possessed the longest, but after the demise of Hadhrat Zaynab ا نه ال یع ع اللهت ضي they understood what , ر

Rasoolullaah لیالله لمص س ل يهو ال یع ع ت had meant. 7

Hadhrat Anas ibn Maalik نه ال یع ع اللهت ضي ا narrates that Hadhrat Zaynab ر نه ال یع ع اللهت ضي used to brag to ر

the other wives of Rasoolullaah لم س ل يهو ال یع ع لیاللهت ,saying, “Your families conducted your marriages ,ص but Allaah conducted my marriage from above the Seven Heavens.”

8

The Mufassiroon have explained that the reason for Hadhrat Zaynab ا نه ال یع ع اللهت ضي declining the ر

proposal to marry Hadhrat Zayd ibn Haarithah نه ال یع ع اللهت ضي in the beginning, is because she had wanted ر

to marry Rasoolullaah لم س ل يهو ال یع ع لیاللهت .himself ص 9

Every person who passes away has to be buried, whether he is a Nabi or not, so of course she was not

objecting to the As-haab of Rasoolullaah لم س ل يهو ال یع ع لیاللهت .burying him ص

A second, very important point to note also is that all of the Sahaabah of Rasoolullaah ال ی ع لیاللهت ص ل يهو ع لم لم loved her – as they knew of the immense love Rasoolullaah س س ل يهو ال یع ع لیاللهت had for her – and she ص loved all of them. There existed no enmity between in the least, contrary to what is believed by the Shi`a Kuffaar.
