Research Activities:
M.Sc Thesis: Effect of Omeprazole (A Proton Pump Inhibitor) on Exocrine
Pancreatic Secretion in Dogs (1996). Department of Medical
Physiology, Faculty of Medicine, Mansoura University. This
Thesis , try to clarify whether Omeprazole interferes with the
active proton transport in the pancreas , as occurring in the stomach,
bicarbonate secretion will eventually be inhibited, It can be
concluded from this study that Omeprazole has no effect on basal
exocrine pancreatic secretion especially bicarbonate , Omeprazole
has an inhibitory effect on stimulated exocrine pancreatic secretion
and Omeprazole may interfere with the action of insulin or secretin
on the other body systems and this should be put in consideration
and may act on other ATPases rather than present in the stomach
e.g; in kidneys , eyes etc.
Ph.D Thesis: Role of Calcium , Angiotensin II and O2 Free Radicals In
Myocardial Tolerance To Acute Ischaemia(2003).Department of
Medical Physiology, Faculty of Medicine, Mansoura University.
This Thesis , try to clarify the effect of calcium channel blockers
( verapamil) , ACE-I (lisionpril) , and antioxidants ( ascorbic acid)
as a suggestive line for protection against myocardial injury. The
results of thesis are analysed , discussed and it can be concluded
that Calcium, Angiotensin and Oxygen free radicals are important
mediators of ischaemic –reperfusion injury, as their modulation by
the calcium channel blocker ( Verapamil ) , angiotensin –
converting enzyme inhibitor ( Lisinopril) and antioxidant
( Ascorbic acid ) respectively , significantly improve ischaemia
reperfusion induced changes in myocardial contractility, heart rate,
coronary blood flow and glucose uptake. So it is recommended to
prescribe a combination of Verapamil, Lisinopril & ascorbic acid
in patients with coronary insufficiency to fulfill the advantages of
Verapamil on coronary flow, Lisinopril on myocardial contractility
and ascorbic acid on heart rate . Also, Ascorbic acid ( vitamin-C)
could be prescribed routinely in patients predisposed to myocardial
ischaemia as diabetes mellitus, astherosclerosis, continuous stress,
obesity, hypertension and valvular heart diseases
