Sukonjit Upananchai. (2013). The Effects of Social support, Self esteem and Self-efficacy on
Resilience of Students in Nonthaburi Province. Master'sproject,M.Ed.(Development
Psychology). Bangkok: Graduate School, Srinakharinwirot University. Project
Advisor: Assistant Professor Vitanya Vanno.
The purposes of this research were 1) to study the resilience level of the students in
Nonthaburi province, 2) to study the relationships between social support, self esteem, self-
efficacy, and resilience of the students in Nonthaburi province, and 3) to predict the
resilience of the students in Nonthaburi province resulted from the basis of social support,
self esteem, and self-efficacy.
The samples were 221 students studying in Mathayomsuksa 6 in Pakkred
Secondary School, Nonthaburi province in the academic year 2012, who were selected by
stratified random sampling. The measure instruments were 1) the Resilience Quotient (RQ)
Scale from the Department of Mental Health of Thailand, 2) the social support scale 3) the
self esteem scale and, 4) the self-efficacy scale. The data were analyzed based on the
descriptive statistics such as frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, including
the inferential statistics such as Pearson's product moment correlation coefficient and
stepwise multiple regression analysis.
The results of the research revealed that the overall and subscale score of
resilience of the students studying in Mathayomsuksa 6 in Nonthaburi province were at the
normal level according to the criteria of the Department of Mental Health of Thailand. Based
on the research, the resilience pertaining to the moral support of the students studying in
Mathayomsuksa 6 in Nonthaburi province was highest. The second highest was the problem
resolution and emotional stability respectively. The supporting from family, teacher, and
friend, self esteem and self efficacy had significantly positive correlations with resilience at
the .01 level r = .580, .387, .409, .609 and .611 respectively, p<.01 in all cases). However,
the results showed that resilience of the students studying in Mathayomsuksa 6 in
Nonthaburi province can be predicted only for the family support, self efficacy, and self
esteem, the percentage of the predicted resilience was 52.8 (R2
= .528). The best predicting
variable was the self efficacy which could be explained the significant statistical variable of
resilience at the .01 level with the predicting coefficient rate at .373 (R) = .373). When added
the predicting variable which was the social family support, the predicting coefficient rate
significantly increased at .01 which increased to .504 (R2 = .504). When added the
predicting variable which was the self esteem, the predicting coefficient rate significantly
increased at .01 which increased to 52.8 (R2 = .528).
