SAINT SHARBEL MAKHLŪF (1828-1898) July 24
The convenience store owner chatted animatedly in Arabic with coworkers, but hardly at all with his American clientele. So soon after 9/11, he probably figured, with my accent, the less said, the better. That changed when an American customer recognized Saint Sharbel’s portrait on the wall: “So you’re Lebanese Maronites!” The owner was happily incredulous: “You know our saint?” “Not at first,” the customer admitted. “But we help the Catholic Near East Welfare Association, and their magazine published that picture and called Sharbel the ‘Paradoxical Artisan of Peace.’ ” “Everyone thinks we’re Muslims,” said the owner, “and some of my workers are. Saint Sharbel helps us live together in peace!” A hermit for twenty-three years, little is known of Sharbel’s life. He died after suffering a stroke while celebrating the liturgy. Miracles attributed to his intercession number in the thousands, and in war-torn Lebanon, Catholics, Orthodox, and Muslims pray together where his incorrupt body is entombed. PARISH ANNOUNCEMENTS 16th SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
July 19, 2020 Bishop DiMarzio has determined that the parishes in Brooklyn and Queens can open for daily Mass on June 29, 2020 and Sunday Masses on the weekend of July 4-5, 2020. This is to provide ample opportunity for Pastors and Administrators to ready their churches and their parishioners for their welcome back. During Stage 1 church doors were open for private prayer and devotion as well as funerals and limited celebrations of baptisms and weddings (without Mass).
REOPENING SCHEDULE ►Stage 1: Opening of Churches for private prayer and devotion. Funerals, Baptisms and Weddings (without Mass) ►Stage 2: Limited Celebrations of Daily Mass will begin on June 29, 2020. ►Stage 3: Limited Celebrations of Sunday Mass will begin on the weekend of July 4/5, 2020 ►Stage 4: Celebration of First Holy Communion and Confirmation (No date has been set yet)
► THE DIRECTIVES GIVEN FOR STAGE 1 REOPENING OF CHURCHES REMAIN IN EFFECT FOR STAGES 2 AND 3. This includes all the measures taken to ensure good hygiene and cleaning of the church, including the disinfection of hands, the wearing of masks and social distancing.
►Pastors and Administrators are encouraged to resume their normal schedules in order to ensure social distancing and not exceed the 25% capacity. Our Sunday Masses will resume with the previous schedule of 7:30am, 10:15am, 11:30am, 1:00pm and 8:00pm in the Polish language. The English language Mass will be at 9:00am. The Sunday Vigil Masses will resume at 5:30pm in English and 7:00pm in Polish on Saturdays. The Weekday Mass schedule will resume with the exception of the 7:00am Mass which is cancelled and the intentions of those Masses will be concelebrated at the 6:30am Mass. ►Holy Communion is to be distributed by the celebrant, and concelebrating priests — Gloves will not be worn but masks should be worn. The Host should be allowed to „fall” (reverently) into the communicant’s hand to avoid any physical contact. The communicant should come before the PRIEST with the mask on for the dialogue („The Body of Christ. Amen”) and then, moving to the side, lower the mask and consume the Eucharist and replace the mask. ►IT IS VERY STRONGLY RECOMMENDED THAT THE FAITHFUL RECEIVE HOLY COMMUNION IN THE HAND for the safety of those receiving Holy Communion and of the minister of Holy Communion. IF PEOPLE WISH TO RECEIVE ON THE TONGUE, THEY WILL BE GIVEN THAT OPPORTUNITY IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWING THE MASS, so that the Communion ministers can disinfect their hands if need be after each person receives.
►People should come for Communion in the normal way, observing at least 6 feet of distance between them as they approach. ►We ask that you not touch statues or devotional objects in the church. Holy water fonts are empty until further notice. Missalettes and other aids have been removed from the pews and printed bulletins will not be distributed, but can be viewed on our website. ►Masks must be worn to enter the Church and while in the church. Everyone must provide their own masks, and should carry their own sanitizer as well. ►Funerals, Baptisms and weddings may be arranged following social distancing guidelines. ►Elderly and the vulnerable are advised to remain at home. Anyone with symptoms and/or a temperature over 100°F must stay home. ►The faithful of the diocese are reminded that the Bishop issued a dispensation from the obligation to attend Mass on Sundays. The obligation to keep the Lord’s Day holy can be fulfilled by maintaining a prayerful attitude and through personal and family prayer. The faithful are urged to watch the celebration of the Eucharist on TV, as well.

Biskup DiMarzio ogłosił, że parafie na Brooklynie i w Queens mogą już odprawiać Mszę św. z udziałem wiernych: Msze św. codzienne od poniedziałku 29 czerwca 2020 r. oraz niedzielne od 4–5 lipca. Jest to etap 2 i 3 otwierania kosciołów. Etap 4: Celebracja Pierwszej Komunii świętej i Bierzmowania (jeszcze nie ustalono daty) Proboszczowie i administratorzy są zachęcani do pilnowania, aby przestrzagano przepisów w celu zapewnienia dystansu społecznego i nie przekraczania 25% pojemności koscioła. Nasze niedzielne msze zostaną wznowione z poprzednim harmonogramem w języku polskim o 7:30, 10:15, 11:30, 13:00 i 20:00. Msza w języku angielskim odbędzie się o 9:00. Niedzielne Msze św. Wigilijne będą odprawione jak były - o godz. 17:30 po angielsku i 19:00 po polsku. W tygodniu plan Mszy św. będzie zmieniony – nie będzie Mszy o godz. 7:00, która jest odwołana, a intencje tych Mszy zostaną koncelebrowane o godz. 6:30 lub w innej godzinie . WAŻNE PRZEPISY, KTÓRE MUSIMY PRZESTRZEGAĆ Celebrans i koncelebrujący kapłani udzielając Komunii Świętej - nie będą nosić rękawiczek, ale muszą mieć maski. Kapłan musi delikatnie złożyc Najświętszą Hostię (z czcią) do ręki przyjmującego, aby uniknąć jakiegokolwiek kontaktu fizycznego. Przyjmujący komunię powinni stawać przed kapłanem w masce na czas dialogu („Ciało Chrystusa. Amen”), a następnie, przechodząc na bok, opuścić maskę i przyjąć Eucharystię i nałożyć maskę. ZALECA SIĘ BARDZO KATEGORYCZNIE, ABY WIERNI PRZYJMOWALI KOMUNIĘ ŚWIĘTĄ NA RĘKĘ dla bezpieczeństwa osób przyjmujących Komunię Świętą i szafarza Komunii Świętej. JEŻELI CHCĄ OTRZYMAĆ KOMUNIĘ NA JĘZYK, będą mogli tak uczynić NATYCHMIAST PO ZAKONCZENIU MSZY ŚW. Wynika to z tego, iż po każdej osobie przyjmującej do ust, kapłan musi umyć ręce, a następnie je zdezynfekować. Ludzie powinni podchodzić do komunii św. zachowując jednak co najmniej 6 stóp odległości między nimi, gdy idą do ołtarza. Zabrania się dotykania obrazów, rzeźb, czy innych przedmiotów kultu w kościele. Kropielnice będą bez wody święconej są puste do odwołania. Mszaliki i spiewniki zostały usunięte z ławek, a drukowane biuletyny nie będą rozpowszechniane, ale można je przeglądać na naszej stronie internetowej. Każda osoba wchodząca do koscioła i w nim przebywająca MUSI nosić maskę. Każda osoba musi mieć własne maski, a także powinna mieć własny środek dezynfekujący. Pogrzeby, chrzty i wesela mogą być organizowane zgodnie z wytycznymi dotyczącymi dystansu społecznego.
Osoby starsze i bezbronne powinny pozostać w domu. Każdy z objawami i / lub temperaturą powyżej 100 ° F musi pozostać w domu. Wiernym diecezji przypomina się, że biskup wydał dyspensę od obowiązku uczestniczenia we Mszy św. w niedzielę. Obowiązek świętowania Dnia Pańskiego można wypełnić, zachowując postawę modlitewną oraz poprzez modlitwę osobistą i rodzinną. TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION In many church buildings constructed in the early twentieth century, there is a window or statue of Pope St. Pius X. Often, these windows were purchased with coins collected by grateful children, since in 1910 a decree admitted much younger children to First Communion. Before then, only teenagers were customarily confirmed and then admitted to the Eucharist. What we often think is ancient practice in fact sometimes has fairly shallow roots, in this case only ten decades. For centuries, Communion had marked the end of formal religious education, but a hundred years ago, Pius X located it at the point at which a child could express a desire for the sacrament and receive it with understanding. In 1917 a new code of canon law determined that age to be about seven, and this practice was observed almost everywhere until the beginning of the Second Vatican Council forty years ago. In a growing number of dioceses, recent practice has restored the sacramental order that Pius X’s generous decree upset, and increasingly confirmation is celebrated before First Communion. But the gift Pius gave to the children of the Roman Church remains firm: everywhere we admit children to the Lord’s table.
