Surveyfindings:Interviewswithphysicsteachers1nuniversitiesandsecondaryschoolshaveillustratedwidespreadissuesconcemmgsmdents,masteryofmathematicalconcCptsandskillsrelevanttophysicsleanung,suchasvectors,graphplottmgandcurvefitting,andeventrigonometricfhnctionsandunitconversions.SuchIndingsechowiththeDSEPhysicsexamrCports(e.gDSE’2013).Literaturereviewsummary:II1ereisincreasmginterestmus1ngshortvideoclipsfbrsupplememingtraditionalface-to-faceleaming1nclassrooms,themostnotableexa1nplebeingtheKhanAcademy(wwwbkhanacademy.org).Educatorshaveadoptedthevideosmd1eirownwaystofacilitate{heleanungofstudents’bOthmsideandoutsideclassrooms.(Murphy>2014).RelevanteXperiences:1TheDepartmentofAppliedPhysics(AP)mPolyUprovidephysics
teachingfbr1styearundergraduatesmdentsinscienceandeng1neering-disciplme’andhasgatheredexperiencesintheshortcomingofstudemsintennsofmathtechniquesfbrhandlingphysicsproblems.
2’APolyUteachingprQ>ectwaslaunchedbyoneoftheteammembers()startingSCp2013,inwhichaselfleamingmoduleonbasiccalculuswasprovidedtoassist1st-yearundergraduatestakingunde1pinningphysicscourses·Themodulefbcusedontheuseofcalculnsαsαroo/msolvingphysicsproblems.SelfstudynotesandonlineexerciseswereprovidedfbrstudemstodrillontheskiIs.
Pleaseelaboratetheinnovativeideasornewpracticestoenhance,adapt,complememand/orsupplementtheexistingpracticesoftheschool.
Whilethemaiorityofphysicsteachinginsecondaryschoolsfbcuson{hecoveringofphysicalphenomenaasprescribedmthesyllabus,manysubtlebutfhndamentalsciemificandmathematicalconcCptsarenotgivendueemphasism{heclasses.Examplesofsuchconceptsincludevectors,datapresentation(i.e·graphicalskills)andtrendprediction’andmathematicaltoolsliketrigonometry,exponemiaMhnctions,andunitconversions.
