Pastor’s Message Very Rev. Fr. Dajad Ashekian
Explanation of the Lord’s Prayer
“Hayr Mer” (Part 5)
In the fourth section, explanation was given about the meaning and importance of the
words “Soorp Yeghitsi Anoun Ko - Serpapavi Ko Anounet”; we now move on to the
fifth part:
“Yegestseh Arkayoutioun Ko – Togh Kah Arkayoutiount” –Thy Kingdom Come.
There are many opportunities in our lives when we wish to make a gift or we are
asked what gift we desire either for a birthday or some other occasion. Naturally, our
wishes will stem from our earthly desires because the question is directed from an
earthly individual.
This does not apply when we seek a gift from God; in other words, it is a different
situation when we are praying to God. Therefore, let us analyze why Christ included
the words “Yegestseh Arkayoutioun Ko, - Thy Kingdom come” in the Lord’s Prayer.
1. With this sentence, Christ teaches and asks each one of us that before we ask
for a monetary gift, we should first of all ask for the coming of his
“Kingdom.” When we pray to God, what are we really asking for? Is it
monetary? Let’s try to reflect what we actually receive when we ask for a
monetary gift. Money? We forget what happened to Judas when he chose
money over eternal salvation, and then he regretted it. Health? We forget
that when we have faith, our faith gives us good health, just as faith healed
the bleeding woman. There are many examples, dear faithful; however, our
prayers should reflect on the coming of his “Kindgdom” and we should be
assured that our desires will be given to us.
2. With this sentence, Christ teaches and reminds us that God is the King of the
“Kingdom.” Naturally, a kingdom has a king. In the pages of history, we
can see that even though kings were oppressive, yet the people under their
sovereignty obeyed and showed respect to the king, irregardless. How much
more respect and honor should we show and give to our King, who left his
kingdom, suffered on earth for us, and showed us the way to the Kingdom.
Therefore, it must be our most important desire to be a member of the
Kingdom as we can see how loving and caring our King is.
3. With this sentence, Christ reminds us that when the Kingdom comes, there is
going to be peace everywhere, justice will take place, healing will be given to
those who are ill, consolation will be provided to the broken hearted, and
finally, it will be shown that there is only one King.
Therefore, today as we read these words, let’s reflect for a moment and let’s raise
heartfelt prayers to our God and say “Lord, even though we are living in this world,
we are not of this world. In this world I am, but I want to be part of your Kingdom so
that I can always praise you.”
Amen

Valley Sister Churches Luncheon By Sossie Djabrayan
This year’s luncheon was held at our church, and it was very successful; 166
people attended. The food and entertainment were great. A big thank you
to our MC, Houry Sanderson, who did an awesome job. Maurizio Russo
entertained us with his beautiful Italian music and songs. Ani Petrosyan’s
Armenian solo dance was perfect. Ed Hokokian, who is a board member
and building committee member of the California Armenian Home, shared
the construction plans of the home and answered questions about the
progress of the on-going construction at the home. Simon Holguin,
Administrator of the home and George Juarez, Residential Administrator of
the home were also present.
I want to thank the committee members who worked hard on preparing this
event. They were Linda Jura, Anoush Chamlian, Diane Mosesian, Arpy
Tanielian, Mary Ekmalian, and Paulina Karamanlian. Linda was our
connection with Pardini’s that catered this event. Anoush worked on the
program, Mary designed and completed the favors, Paulina was instrumental
in the choice of the hors d’oeuvres and Arpy, Linda, Barbara, and Mary
prepared them. Thank you to Siraik Panosian of Rainbow Flowers who
designed and executed the center pieces.
I also want to thank Ruby Baladjanian, Kathy Kutnerian and Vars Gaston
for preparing the cheese boregs; Nazik Arisian and Diana Shirin in the office
for their help with the reservations and the guest list. Diana prepared name
tags and prepared separate envelopes for the reservations of every church,
which facilitated the registration process. Thank you as well for Tomas and
Patty who set up the hall. Another thank you to Patty Torosian who prepared
the meal choice tickets. A special thank you for my husband Vartan, who
prepared the pastry with the help of the committee members.
I also want to thank the designated contacts from the churches who
facilitated reservations. Some of them were present at the registration table.
They were: Jane Kazarian, St. Gregory Fowler; Diane Kassabian, Pilgrim
Armenian Congregational Church; Darlene Chardukian, St. Paul Armenian
Church; Mary Lou Bagdasarian, First Armenian Presbyterian; Debbie
Sheklian, St. Mary Armenian Church, Yettem; and Stella Balakian, Sts.
Sahag and Mesrob Armenian Church. This year, for the first time we had
extended invitation to the Armenian Catholics of the valley. Two families
attended.
Good job everyone and see you next year.

Youth Group News By: Elena Sarmazian
The Holy Trinity Armenian Apostolic Church Youth Group is back in action!
Hayr Dajad and I have been working hard with the members of our youth
group to come up with new and exciting ideas to increase the involvement of
our youth with both the church and the community.
Youth Group meetings will be held Monday evenings at 6:00 pm in the Hye’d
Out. Hayr Dajad begins by leading the group through a Bible study and then
we begin our activities. Currently, we are in the process of planning an out-of-
town trip to encourage our youth to further participate in Youth Group
activities.
Recently, the Youth Group joined with the Armenian Students Organization
(ASO) at Fresno State to participate in various activities such as the ASO
Game Night which was hosted in the Hye’d Out on September 16th.
We have a vision of combining Armenian youth together, in hopes of
continuing flourishing the atmosphere of church through the youth. Please
spread the word to the youth in your families that the Holy Trinity Armenian
Apostolic Church Youth Group would like to welcome them to all our
activities and meetings! For questions, please call/text Elena at (559) 269-
0416 or email the Youth Group at [email protected]

PASS IT ON… By: Krista Parnagian
An old legend says that God first created birds without wings.
Sometime later, God made wings and said to the birds, “Come, take up
these burdens and bear them.” The birds hesitated at first but soon obeyed.
They tried picking up the wings in their beaks, but they were too heavy.
Then they tried picking them up with their claws, but they were too large.
Finally, one of the birds managed to hoist the wings onto its shoulders
where it was possible to carry them.
Before long the wings began to grow and they soon had
attached themselves to the birds’ bodies. One of the birds began to flap his
wings, and others followed his example. Before long one of the birds took
off and began to soar in the air above! What had once been a heavy burden
now became the very thing that enabled the birds to go where they could
never go before and at the same time, truly fulfill the destiny of their
creation.
The duties and responsibilities you count as burdens today
may be part of God’s destiny for your life, the means by which your soul
will be lifted up and prepared for eternity.
Message: Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever
you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your
faith produces perseverance. James 1:3

Ladies’ Guild Bazaar News
With just days to go before the doors open at 10am for the 66th annu-
al Food Bazaar at Holy Trinity we find ourselves hustling and bustling be-
tween the two social halls, the kitchen, the freezer, the pantry closets and the
attic. We thank dear Patty Torosian who works full time, teaches Sunday
school and makes time to do the majority of the Bazaar baking, but also led
the cheese berag prep team. She will be on hand to take charge of the busy
kitchen crew all day on the day of the Bazaar. We thank all of the ladies and
some men who came to help on Friday, September 30 as we assembled the
yummy pakhlava under the direction of Susie Parnagian. With her expertise
and success for our monumental 2 day spring deliveries, Susie never shies
away from pitching in to help at the Bazaar too. She and Azadig Bidanian
made all the sugar water, measured, chopped and bagged the filling for each
of the 25 large baking trays of pakhlava. Margo’s 3-4 day yalanchi squad
needs lots of helpers on October 2, 3 and 4.
Please drop in and stay for a while any time during the week of Oc-
tober 2-7 as we will be running in all directions setting up, arranging tables,
packaging and labeling. We also need the not so glamorous help on October
7 by clearing tables, setting placemats, being food runners, and the very im-
portant task of breaking down, packing and cleaning up.
Most of the serving and cashier lines have been filled by Ladies’
Guild members, friends and other super volunteers who just want to be part
of the BEST FOOD BAZAAR in town.
Our 50/50 cash raffle ticket sales are going well. If you haven’t sent
in your bright pink ticket stubs, it’s not too late to do so. You can even buy
extra chances up until 7:30 pm on Friday, October 7 to increase your chances
of winning one of the 10 (evenly divided) cash prizes. If you have been
considering a space on the placemat that will be seen by nearly 1500 people,
call the church office to inquire if there is any remaining space.
BIG thank yous this month to Ladies’ Guild chairlady, Louise
Hagopian (who sadly passed away), to Ed Sornigian, Lucy Ohanian, an
anonymous donor and Jennie Kevorkian from Downey for their monetary
donations as reflected on the updated chart below. Additional thanks to Vir-
ginia Derian for her donation. With your continued generous donations we
continue to try to zero out the last column on the chart below .
