Born from plants and returned to the soilBemliese ‒ an environmentally friendly, ecological material
Use of cotton, an annual plant, as a raw material,it does not cause deforestationBemliese uses only cotton, whose seeds are sown in the soil and harvested an-nually.This gift from the Earth does not cause deforestation while other materials like pulp may do so.
Environmentally friendly Bemliese ‒ produced in a clean manufacturing site
Bemliese only uses cotton linter, unused fibers, as a material, and complies with the RoHS directive as an ecological material contributing to environmental conservation.

Adding technology to natural materialsBemliese is the only continuous cellulosic filament nonwoven sheet
Three characteristics to realize the world's only product
Bemliese made from cottonWorld’s only regenerated cellulosic filament nonwoven sheet
At the Asahi Kasei plant, refined cotton linter becomes the world's only continu-ous cellulosic filament nonwoven sheets. Our proprietary technology enables a production process that uses 100% cel-lulosic filaments and their self-bondingcapabilities.
Creating products with our proprietary technology
Bemliese only uses the short fibers around the seeds that were previously unused. Our original production process enables these fibers to be turned into material with higher functionality than regular cotton.
Using 100% cotton linter as a raw material
①Linter refining ②Linter dissolution
Highly purified linter dissolved in a solution (undiluted solution)
After the cotton linter is cleaned, impurities are eliminated through repeated steaming and filtration to create refined linter.
■Filament spinning The undiluted solution is extruded from the nozzle to create filaments.
■Pattern formationVarious patterns are created.
■Web formation Filaments are layered through self-bondingto create sheets.
■Drying ■Roll winding

■Comparison test of attaching and detaching
◉After skin lotion is poured on the facial sheet masks, it is left on wire netting for five minutes. When the facial sheet masks contact the skin after the five minutes left on wire netting, it can be observed how the material changes over time (at 0 minutes and after 5 and 15 minutes) based on attaching and detaching performance.

◉The sample is soaked in water and its weight is compared before and after soaking.Ratio of liquid absorption = [Sample weight after soaking - Sample weight] / Sample weight
■Comparison test of transparency
◉Bemliese becomes more transparent when it contains water, and the underlying characters grow increasingly visible.
◉After a dry sheet is placed on the paper with characters printed, water is poured onto the sheet to compare transparency.

High liquid retention, one of cotton’scharacteristics, is enhanced with our original technology. The reclaimed cel- lulosic filament structure created by using cotton linter as a material provides a much higher level of liquid retention than cotton.
High liquid retention
When Bemliese holds liquid, it gets very soft and clings tightly to the surface. When it is used for fascial sheet masks, it fits the skin perfectly along the facial contours.
High level of adhesion
Ratio of liquid absorption (number of times)
When Bemliese is wet, it becomes a highly transparent sheet due to liquid that has permeated the filaments.
Highly transparent material
◉Nonwoven sheets are placed on an inclined table, and colored saline is poured on them to compare liquid absorption performance. (Incline angle: 45°; amount of pouring: 8 ml; pouring speed: 8 ml/5 seconds)

■Fluffs after friction
◉After the sheet is rubbed 20 times with the test machine to compare fluff on the surface of filaments, Bemliese shows almost no fluff on the edge.

■Lint after separation
◉Adhesive cellophane tape is stuck to the nonwoven sheet and then removed. A comparison is made with lint remaining on the tape. There are a very few separated filaments for Bemliese, a continuous-filament nonwoven sheet.

Continuous filament nonwoven sheets made in the binder-free production processMaintaining a usage environment clean, compatible with various solvents
Continuous-filament Bemliese signifi-cantly reduces lint compare to many short fibers materials. It can be used in various applications.◉Reduction of micro-lint◉Reduction of lint separated from edges and surface
Low particle, low lint
The reason for Bemliese’s reduced lint and separated filaments, and almost no dissolution of impurities, is binder-free, continuous-filament nonwoven sheets. Bemliese is fit for use in an environment where cleanness is required. Also, it can be used for a wide range of solvents since no adhesive agents are used.

High purity in binder-free production process
Bemliese is made without use of adhe- sive agents. Self-bonding quality of filaments reduces dissolution of impuri-ties and can be used for various solvents.

■Difference in damage caused by friction
◉Comparison is made with scratches on the surface when different nonwoven sheets are rubbed against an artificial skin similar in elasticity to human skin. Since the filaments are smooth, Bemliese produces almost no scratches.

◉JFriction-charged electrostatic potential is measured and compared in line with the JIS L 1094 B method (friction duration: 10 seconds). This shows extremely low electrostatic charge for Bemliese.
■Measurement of friction-charged electrostatic potential (object: PET resin)
■Comparison of heat resistance
◉Nonwoven sheets are placed on a hotplate at 250°C, and change in shape in 20 seconds is compared. While other nonwoven sheets show a change in color and shape, Bemliese shows nearly no change.

Uniform filament structure to provide smoothness
Examining Bemliese's filament structure with a microscope finds filaments which have similarly sized diameters and round shapes. Compared with other materials, filaments that compose Bemliese have smaller variation in diameters and smoother surface.
Cotton enhances smoothnessReduces electrostatic charge, and high heat resistance
Since the cross-section of the Bemliese filament is nearly circular compared to other filaments, it reduces friction and damage when rubbed.
Less damage caused by friction
Since liquid contained in the filaments releases static electricity into the air, the filaments are not easily charged.
Low electrostatic charge
High heat resistance
Bemliese withstands temperatures up to 260℃, and is free from the softening and decomposition characteristic of synthetic fabrics.
High biodegradabilityUndergoing biodegradation after use
Bemliese undergoes biodegradation nat-urally when it is buried in soil.
