2.2 Assessment

2.2.1 In assessing the vibration stresses imposed on machinery, equipment and hul l structures, the vibration velocity '.J v is generally used as a criterion for the prevai ling vibration stress. The same criterion

is used to evaluate the intensity of the vibration spectrum prod uced by a vibration exc iter (see. 2.1.2).

In the case of a purely sinusoidal oscillation, the effective value of the vibration velocity Veff can be calculated by the formu la:

2.1 The calculated values according to formulae (4) to (6) are to be rounded up to the next

higher nominal diameter.

2.2 Dry cargo and passenger ships
