The beauty of overlapping, in between fingertips and tools

Every action of perfection

The bamboo handcraft is a traditional workmanship back in my hometown Fujian, which still bears in the childhood memory of mine. Yet it was sad to find out that most bamboo handcraft artisans were passed away after decades, consequently I started to trace back to the origin of the bamboo handcraft, Dongyang, Zhejiang.

Why Bamboo Handcraft?

Under the mian theme in the Graduation Work，we focused on the handcraft. Through two weeks of investigation and visiting from my hometown Fujian province to Zhejiang province, I found the bamboo handcraft, which is a really important Chinese traditional art, was endangered.

After further research on the famous bamboo handcraft family - He Fuli and his son, Master He Hong lian, I summarized the main action of bamboo handicraft, it was as unique part which is differentiate from others. I photographed this valuable treasure.

Why Dongyang City?

DongYang was the origin of the bamboo handicraft.

The requirement of hands when making bamboo handcraft.

Copywrite Posters Brochures Cards Videos Tangible Objects

Through investigation and data sorting, I teased out of bamboo as a theory of evolution to three chapters: handswork, confessions of craftsmen, and the interview with craftsmen. Copywirte, posters, brochures, cards, videos and tangible objects of Master He were complementary and combined with physical form, which show the respect of nature and the sincere attitude towards each item to the viewer, reflect the social life, as well as arise consideration of the spirit for all lifes and the individual meaning of human being.

The role of hands when making bamboo handcraft.

The hands & handwriting, all types were writen by ZhangQing.

“Zhihuo”, the handicraft work, The sedimentation of spirit of craftsmen. Smoking, pulling, twisting, tearing, every movement condensed to the skills of craftsmen.

The disappearance of the bamboo weaving skills in my hometown, Fujian province, driven me back to the origin of the bamboo handcraft - Dongyang, Zhejiang Province. Through investigation and data sorting, tease out of bamboo as a theory of evolution to three chapters: hand work, confessions of craftsmen, and Interview craftsmen, brochures, cards, video is complementary and combined with the form of physical, hoping to transfer to the viewer to show respect for nature and sincere attitude towards each and every item, reflect the social life, thinking spirit for all walks of life and people's own meaning.

From Mar 2016 to Apr 2016, I was the main designer of the Open Your Space - Design Interventions In Siping Community Publication, which is exhibited in the Milano Design Week in April 2016. During the project I have accumulated a comprehensive understanding as well as adept skill sets of designing cover, binding and format.

What is “Past and Present” ?

In the name of the college entrance examination, we launched a collection of activities: use the college entrance examination as the special event, let different participants to recall memories about it, collecting the manuscripts from people all over different places through email, posters and other forms. It was a reflection of different responses and different life. When we overlapped various pictures and texts, which cover the stories from past to present of different people, expressing a new meaning. By cutting the geographical and time with scissors, everything including events were disrupted, readers will gain an unique reading experience, which is unduplicated. The collection of characters, images and words were reflecting our intricate human society.

Through the most simple color - black and white, we sincerely hope every participant is able to collect the memories from past, as well as the reflection at present, and the visions of future.

The white sewing posters show the cause of the book, and also increase the authenticity and sense of participation, Call for papers announcement;

Each manuscript is double-side display. From the lives of others in front，turn to present behind, this kinds of page turning action can enhances the feeling of time variation, event change and different person’s growth process. Between the lines is not only the portrayal of others, but also your self reflection,Contrast;

Reading cut scissors will set up crop marks are recommended, as alllines are cut open, you will find them scattered into another echo is language restructuring.

The Bare Sewn spines and some gaps between cover told the story about time, like a fleeting;

With the development of society, elderly people living alone have accounted for a large proportion of the community population and rapidly expanding, they are increasingly ignored by the busy young people, they are not good at emerging technology, difficult process of complicated electronic communication products, which makes them difficult to maintain smooth liaison with faraway children.

Source of inspiration: the Lunar Spring Festival, cold winter wear helmet, simple, cute design, also suitable for children.

1, Yuhua stone on the water lines not only on behalf of the origin and development of the Yangtze River water culture in China, also has a long history in our country;

2, stone also known as birthstones, reflecting the auspicious meaning;

3, Queen of stone tiles, agate stone, has a high degree of appreciation, value is high, the difficulty of its formation process, which becomes hard to pay athletes;
