St. John the Baptist Parish 140 Pinaglabanan Street, San Juan City

(Amos 8:4-7; 1 Timoteo 2:1-8;
Lucas16:1-13)
ni Msgr. Nestor C. Cerbo
maykapangyarihan.
Bakit mag-alay ng kanilang kahilingan,
panalangin, pamanhik, at pasasalamat
tao kaya iwasan nating maging
gahaman sa pera tulad ng mga
negosyante sa Unang Pagbasa (Amos
8:4-7). Sa kanilang pagiging gahaman sa
pera, sinising sagabal ang Araw ng
Pamamahinga. Sabi nila sa kanilang sarili:
“Inip na inip na kaming matapos ang
mga araw ng pamamahinga. Hindi tuloy
namin maipagbili ang aming mga inani.”
“Kailan ba matatapos ang Araw ng
Pamamahinga, para mailako namim ang
mga trigo?”
Sa kanilang pagiging gahaman sa pera,
tinaasan nila ang presyo ng kanilang
paninda at dinaya ang timbang. Sabi
nila, “Tataasan naming ang halaga,
gagamit kami ng maling takalan at
dadayain naming sa timbang ang mga
mamimili.” “Pati tulyapis ng trigo ay
ipagbili naming sa mataas na halaga.”
Hindi tayo mapapatawad ng Panginoon
kung patuloy tayo sa pagiging gahaman
sa pera. Kaya, iwasan nating maging
tao kaya iwasan nating maging
gahaman sa pera tulad ng mandarayang
katiwala sa Ebanghelyo (Lukas 16:1-13).
Sa kanyang pagiging gahaman sa pera,
nilustay nila ang ari-arian ng kanyang
panginoon. Sabi sa Ebanghelyo: “May
isang mayaman na may isang katiwala.
Isinumbong sa kanya na nilulustay nito
ang kanyang ari-arian.” “Kaya‟t
-3-
ipinatawag niya at tinanong, „Ano ba
itong naririnig ko tungkol sa iyo? Isulit mo
Sabi
sa Ebanghelyo: “Tinanong niya ang una,
„Gaano ang utang mo sa aking
panginoon?‟ Sumagot ito, „Sandaang
tapayang langis po.‟ „Heto ang kasulatan
ng iyong pagkakautang. Dali! Maupo ka‟t
gawin mong limampu,‟ sabi ng katiwala.
At tinanong naman niya ang isa, „Ikaw
gaano ang utang mo?‟ Sumagot ito,
„Sandaang kabang trigo po.‟ „Heto ang
kasulatan ng iyong pagkakautang,‟ wika
niya. „Isulat mo walumpu.”
maligtas tayong lahat. Papaano? Ayon
sa Ebanghelyo, mayroon tatlong paraan:
Una, gamitin natin sa pakikipagkaibigan
ang kayamanan ng sanlibutanng ito.
Ikawala, mapagkatiwalaan tayo sa maliit
na bagay, mapagkatiwalaan sa mga
kayamanan ng sanlibutang ito,
mapagkatiwalaan sa kayamanan ng iba.
Ikatlo, hindi natin pinaglilingkuran nang
sabay ang Diyos at ang kayamanan.
Gawin po natin ang mga ito at
mangyayari ang ibig ng Diyos na
maligtas tayong lahat.
MGA TANONG SA BAHAGINAN:
1. Paano mo po ginagamit ang
kayamanan ng sanlibutang ito sa
pakikipagkaibigan?
2. Anu-ano po ang mga ginawa mo na
nagpapakita na kayo ay
mapagkatiwalaan sa maliit na bagay,
mapagkatiwalaan sa mga kayamanan
ng sanlibutang ito, mapagkatiwalaan
sa kayamanan ng iba?
3. Paano mo patunayan na hindi mo
pinaglilingkuran nang sabay ang Diyos
at ang kayamanan?

AT SALAPAN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
Ang Salapan Elementary School ay
nagdaos ng kanilang buwanang misa
noong Setyembre 7, 2016, 8:00 ng

pinaaalalahanan tayo ng Diyos na laging
gumawa ng tama at mabuti upang
walang maghihirap, magugutom at
inaallimura.

MAYOR GUIA GOMEZ

held on Wednesday, September 7, 2016,
at 4:00 P.M. in the San Juan City Mayor‟s
Office. Msgr. Nestor Cerbo, Sis. Mary
Pacheco and Sis. Bebat Nabong met with
Mayor Gomez on the planned Fundraising

Birthday and Priestly Anniversaries on
September 29.
The proceeds of the Fundraising Event
will form part of the fund to realize the
SJBP Development 2019 in celebration
of the 125 years of St. John the Baptist
Parish. This Development Plan includes
the construction of the Parish Center
and Parish Mortuary; and Facelift of the
Parish Church, Bahay ni San Juan
Bautista, Parish Columbary and Priests‟
House.
Msgr. Nestor would usually spend his
birthday and priestly anniversaries by

his usual routine by allowing his
personal milestones to contribute to the
realization of SJBP Development 2019.
Since September 29 is a Thursday, it
was suggested to move the Fundraising
Dinner to the following Saturday,
October 1, 2016, which will enable

SEPTEMBER 08, 2016 – ANNUAL VISIT
OF THE PILGRIM IMAGE OF OUR LADY
OF FATIMA AT SJBP
The annual pilgrimage of Our Lady of
Fatima to the different Vicariates and Units
of CWL in the Archdiocese of Manila
started last September 8, 2016.
The image was brought to our parish by
the CWL Officers and Board Members, led
by their President Ms. Betty Roxas-Chua.
St. John the Baptist Parish was the first to
be visited by the pilgrim image of the Our
Lady of Fatima among the different
Vicariates and Units of the Catholic
Women‟s League. The image was warmly
welcomed by our parish priest Msgr.
Nestor C. Cerbo, together with the CWL
officers and members of our parish.
Devotees of the 20 Big Rosaries, Family
Rosary Crusade (FRC) and Legion of Mary
were also present in honoring the arrival
of the pilgrim image of Our Lady of
Fatima.
It was heartwarming, seeing all of them
wearing their blue and white flaglets as
the image was being brought to the altar,
in her gold plated sanctuary adorned with
fresh and blooming white flowers. It was
indeed a delightful scene to behold.
May our love and devotion to our Dear
Lady lead us all towards fullness of life in
Jesus.

SEPTEMBER 08, 2016 – 20 BIG ROSARIES
FOR MAMA MARY
The monthly 20 Big Rosaries for Mama
Mary was held last September 8 to
celebrate the birth of the Blessed Virgin
Mary. Most devotees were clad in blue T-
shirts with the embroidered image of
Mother Mary at the back. Surely, they
appreciated Sister Nina Ortencio‟s efforts
in designing, ordering and distributing the
Mama Mary T-shirts.
Thanks much to Sisters Cita Mendoza and
Maying Villapando for sponsoring the
breakfast, lunch and snacks. Devotees
took turns in praying the rosary and taking
their appetizing meals. They were
endlessly praying for their personal
intentions and those of other people
whom they promised to pray for.
After lunch, everyone was getting excited
about the expected arrival of Our Lady of
Fatima. As scheduled, the image of our
Lady arrived at around 2:00 in the
afternoon. Officers and members of the
-6-
Catholic Women‟s League (CWL) took
charge of welcoming Our Lady of Fatima,
which is a replica owned by the CWL of
the Archdiocese of Manila. The image of
our Lady stayed in our parish up to
September 13, 2016.
The 20 Big Rosaries was ended with a
usual closing prayer led by Sister Lou
Caudal, in thanksgiving for all answered
petitions of devotees. She also prayed for
healing of the sick, and for peace and
unity in our families, in our country and in
the whole world, through the intercession
of Mama Mary.

SEPTEMBER 08, 2016 – BEC SALAPAN
MASS FOR THE NATIVITY OF THE
BLESSED VIRGIN MARY
Noong nakaraang September 8, 2016 sa
ganap na alas-6:00 ng gabi, amin pong
isinagawa ang BEC Mass sa aming
chapel ng “Our Lady of the Assumption”.
Ito po ay araw ng kapanganakan ng
ating Mahal na Ina. Ang nanguna po sa
aming Misa ay si Rev. Fr. Herbert
Camacho. Labis pong ikinasiya ng
aming mga parishioners ang kanyang
homiliya. Sa pamamagitan daw po ni
Maria, nagkaroon ng katuparan ang
misyon ng bawat isa. Ito ay mayroong
dalawang mahalagang bagay na dapat
nating malaman. Una, “Ang
Kapanganakan” at ikalawa “Bakit tayo
nabuhay sa mundong ibabaw.” Kaya‟t
inyong magandang homiliya at nawa‟y
ating barangay.

SEPTEMBER 08, 2016 – BEC ISABELITA
4TH DAY NOVENA MASS IN
PREPARATION FOR THE “FEAST OF THE
“TRIUMPH OF THE CROSS”
The 4th day Novena Mass was held last
September 8, 2016, 6:00 PM at the
Barangay Isabelita‟s Day Care Room, with
Msgr. Nestor Cerbo as presider.
On September 8, the Universal Church
celebrates the Feast of the Nativity of the
Blessed Virgin Mary. In his homily, Msgr.
Nestor said that it was a day that we
should be glad and rejoice because it
was the birthday of Mama Mary. If there is
a birthday, we, Filipinos, would always
think of a gift to be given to the birthday
celebrant. And if we wanted to give a
fitting gift to Mama Mary, the Gospel of
the day had a suggestion and it is that we
work the family remains whole and entire.
Joseph and Mary were about to be
married. Before their marriage, Joseph
thought of leaving Mary secretly because
the latter was found pregnant. But God
-8-
did not allow that their becoming a family
in marriage not to push through. He sent
angel to Joseph in a dream to tell him not
to be afraid to take Mary as his wife
because she bore a child through the
power of the Holy Spirit. When Joseph
awoke, he followed the will of theof the
Lord. The Lord would always find a way to
assure that the family remains whole and
entire. Helping families to remain whole
and entire is one fitting gift to Mama Mary
on her birthday.
The Mass ended with a happy birthday
song to the Blessed Virgin Mary.
All activities in preparation for the
celebration of the Feast of the Triumph of
the Cross on Sept. 14 are being done with
the unceasing help and guidance of our
BEC Servant Leader, Bro. Naning Dela
Pena, who despite his present
handicapped condition has continued to
see to it that everything is done well. All
BEC Isabelita cell groups are at hand to
cooperate with the assistance of Captain
Egay Corre and the Barangay Council.

lending us the Barangay L300 vehicle
which was used to transport the cupcakes
donated by our generous parishioners.
It was an exhausting day, but all these
brought happiness and fulfillment to each
and everyone. Mama Mary must have
been very happy to see the glowing
faces of her children in receiving these
simple cupcakes. It was indeed a HAPPY
BIRTHDAY for our DEAR BLESSED MOTHER!

SEPTEMBER 10, 206 – BEC VICARIATE
CONSULTATION
Mula sa panawagan na sa taong 2021,
ang lahat ng parokya sa buong Roman
Catholic Archdiocese of Manila (RCAM)
ay magiging BEC parishes na,
nagpatawag ng BEC Consultation para sa
lahat ng bikaryato ng Maynila. Ang
bikaryato ng St. John the Baptist ay
nagkaroon ng pagtitipon na
pinangunahan ni Bro. Tatang Mendoza,
isa sa Lay Coordinators ng RCAM BEC.
Dumalo din ang mga kaparian sa
pamumuno ng ating Vicar Forane na si
Msgr. Bong Lo, kasama sina Fr. Alex
Magtibay, Kura Paroko ng Santuario de
San Jose at Fr. Royce Quintillan, Kura
Paroko ng St. Francis de Assisi Parish. Si
Msgr.
PPC – 6, MinistrY at BEC Heads – 17, at
Organizations 5.
Ang konsultasyon ay naglalayon na
makita ang kalagayan ng mga BEC sa
-11-
bawat bikaryato ng Archdiocese of
magtutulung-tulong upang maging
matagumpay at maayos ang gagawing
paglulunsad ng Year of BEC sa darating
Alex Magtibay.

SEPTEMBER 10, 2016 – MLC‟S 31ST
ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION
The Ministry of Lectors and Commentators
(MLC) of SJBP celebrated their
31st anniversary with an outreach program
held at the White Cross orphanage last
September 10, 2016. To start their day with
God‟s blessings, they first attended the
7am mass presided by Fr. Herbert
Camacho.
After mass, they shared breakfast
together then proceeded to the
orphanage. The lectors set up the place
with tarpaulin and balloons, installed the
sound system, and packed the goodies
-12-
that would later be given to the kids.
Three priests namely Fr. Francis Salcedo,
Fr. Herbert Camacho and Fr. Raul Cuyag
joined them in celebrating the occasion.
The emcees of the program were Kim
Santos and Erynne Bulaon. Fr. Raul was
requested to start the program with an
opening prayer. To cheer up the kids, a
lively dance number of “Kamustahan”
was rendered by the lectors. Two more
dance numbers followed after the kids
were asked to join the games of Trip to
Jerusalem and Boat is Sinking. The kids
had their own pick of stuff toys and used
clothing donated by MLC member
Melody Sto. Domingo.
Emcee Kim surprised the kids with the
participation of two Voice Kids
contestants, Gabie Mendoza and Saisha
Rey Masirag. They sang one duet and a
solo song each.
Afterwards came the serving of a
delicious lunch for the kids, followed by
picture taking of the lectors with the kids.
A message of thanksgiving was given by
the eldest representative of the kids. After
the distribution of their goodies, the kids
were led back to their respective dorms.
Fr. Francis offered to give the lectors a
tour of the orphanage, which is the home
of 94 children. They were led to the Holy
Angel‟s Dormitory, the Play Room and the
Cherubim‟s Dormitory. The Cherubim‟s
dorm is the home of babies with ages 3
months to one year. The lectors enjoyed
playing with the healthy-looking babies in
their cribs, carrying them and hugging
them.
The MLC members left with a heavy heart
after hearing stories from Fr. Francis of
babies being abandoned at the gates of
White Cross. After a short time spent in the
orphanage, they felt the loneliness of kids
who longed for the love and hug of a
parent, and of babies who cried after they
were carried and then put back to their
cribs At the same time, the lectors were
full of joy that they were able to give
moment of happiness and enjoyment to
these orphans. Moreover, they were able
to celebrate their 31stanniversary with a
feeling of fulfillment after doing a mission
of corporal and spiritual works of mercy
for the Lord.

SEPTEMBER 10, 2016 – HOUSE BLESSING
AT BUQUID‟S RESIDENCE
Sa kahilingan po ng aming ka-barangay
at miyembro ng BEC Core Group, ang
pamilya nila Mr. & Mrs. Celso at Nenita
Buquid ay nagpabendisyon ng kanilang
bahay ganap na alas-4:00 ng hapon
nong nakaraang September 10, 2016.
Ang nanguna po sa pagbabasbas ng
nasabing bahay ay si Fr. Raul Cuyag.
Amin pong inumpisahan ang
pagbabasbas sa labas patungo sa sala
hanggang sa makarating sa taas ng
kanilang bahay na sinabayan ng isang
panalangin. Malugod na din pong
binasbasan ni Fr. Raul ang inihandang
meryenda ng pamilya at ito ay sama-
samang pinagsaluhan ng lahat.
Ito ay isa na namang pamamaraan para
po makatulong ang BEC Core Group sa
ating mga ka-barangay at parishioners
na nangangailangan.
Maraming salamat po Fr. Raul sa
pagbibigay ng oras at panahon sa
ganitong pagkakataon.

SEPTEMBER 10, 2016 – BEC RIVERA
STREET MASS
The Street Mass held at BEC Rivera every
2nd Saturday of the month took place last
September 10, 2016, along GB Santos
Street. It started at 6:00 in the evening with
Fr. Herbert Camacho as presiding priest.
The Core Group of BEC Rivera would
always look forward to their Street Mass
schedule, since it is a very good avenue
of bringing God‟s word and the Eucharist
to the people, especially to those who
don‟t go to Sunday mass regularly. This
2nd Saturday, we were blessed with a very
good weather, and thus a good turn-out
of attendance for the street mass.
-14-
Fr. Herbert started his homily by quoting
the book of a famous Christian Author,
Joyce Meyer, entitled “God is not Mad at
You.” According to Fr. Herbert, no matter
how dark our past is, God will never grow
tired of loving and forgiving us. That is how
extravagant God‟s mercy and goodness
is! So there is no reason for us to be afraid
of going back to him and returning to his
warm embrace.
There will be no street mass at BEC Rivera
on October to give way to the celebration
of the Feast Day of their patroness, the
Our Lady of Fatima. The 9-day novena will
be from October 4-12, 2016. There will
also be Triduum Mass on October 10-12,
2016, while the Fiesta Mass will be on
October 13, 2016.
Our Lady of Fatima, pray for us!

powerful intercession of our parish patron,
St. John the Baptist is held every 2nd
Sunday of the month. They are requested
to go in front of the altar to receive the
special blessing.
-15-
Like Pope Francis said during his visit to
Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia “No elderly
should be like an exile in our families. The
elderly are a treasure for our society.”

to such as these.” (Matthew 19:14)
SEPTEMBER 11, 2016 – SUNDAY YOUTH

After the mass, our Youth Members led
the animation dance of the song, “Tell the
World of His Love.” Almost everyone who
attended joined in the animation.
We are inviting the young people to
attend our Youth Mass every Sunday at
6:00 PM to celebrate the Holy Eucharist
with our fellow youth here at St. John the
Baptist Parish and be part of our Youth
Ministry.

SEPTEMBER 14, 2016 – BEC ISABELITA
FEAST DAY
The fiesta activity at BEC Isabelita started
with a medical and dental mission from
8:00 am to 12:00 noon held at the
barangay hall. Six (6) doctors from
Cardinal Santos Medical Center offered
free check-up, consultation and
medicines to members of the BEC .
Seventy (70) adults were treated and
given medical attention. The dentists also
gave free tooth extraction to some
members. Ten (10) children received free
check-up and consultation. Thus, the
success of this activity is a living testimony
to our theme, “Ang magkakapitbahay na
magkakaisa at nagtutulungan ay simbolo
ng matagumpay na samahan”.
At 5:00 pm a procession in honor of the”
Triumph of the Cross” made its way thru
the streets of Brgy Isabelita. Holy Mass
followed presided by Msgr Nestor Cerbo.
In his homily, Msgr. Nestor stated that
during the time of Jesus, the cross meant
death, especially to the criminal. But
when Jesus became part of the cross
because he was crucified on the cross for
our salvation, the cross longer means
death but life. That is why, the Gospel tells
us that “As Moses lifted up the serpent in
the desert, so must the Son of Man be
lifted up, so that whoever believes in Him
may have eternal life.” Hence, cross does
not mean just ordinary life but eternal life.
Msgr. Nestor continued, “That is why let us
not imitate the Israelites in the First
Reading. They complained against the
Lord for all the crosses that they had to
bear because of their journey in the
desert to the Promised Land. The Lord got
angry and he sent saraph serpent which
bit the people and many of them died. Let
us not blame the Lord for the crosses that
we have to bear in life. Like the Lord
Jesus, let us carry them through his help
and surely our crosses will not mean
death but will mean life for us.”
-18-
This day‟s feast is about celebrating,
praising the Cross, and rejoicing with
Christ. For indeed when Christ was
crucified, He was certainly “elevated”
above the ground, “lifted up” as told in
the Gospel. In the 2nd reading, Paul said
“God exalted Him” and so we rejoice with
Christ.
A raffle was conducted before the
celebration came to an end. BEC
Isabelita would like to give our sincerest
thanks to all our priests who presided the
9-day novena masses: our Parish Priest,
Msgr Nestor Cerbo; our Parochial Vicar, Fr
Herbert Camacho, Fr Raul Cuyag and Fr.
Francis Salcedo. To our lay ministers, Bro
Reynaldo Plarison and Bro Ricardo
Sangcal who exerted their effort in
fetching and bringing the priests back to
the church for 10 days; to our generous
mass sponsors; to Brgy Capt. Egay Corre
and his wife, Beng Corre; the Brgy
Council who were there with us since day
one and made their presence felt every
step of the way; and last but not the least
to our dynamic BSL Naning dela Pena – to
all of you thank you very much.
“TO GOD BE ALL THE GLORY.”

SEPTEMBER 13, 2016 – FR. HERBERT‟S
BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION
The Parish Core Group, composed of our
priests, the BSLs, Asst. BSLs, and heads of
various Ministries, Organizations, and
Movements threw a simple birthday party
for our beloved Parochial Vicar, Fr.
Herbert Camacho last September 13,
2016. It was held at the Parish Celebration
Hall right after the 6:00 PM mass.
Fr. Herbert‟s actual birthday is on
September 15, 2016, but the group
celebrated it earlier because he will be
out of the country for a two-week mission
starting September 14.
Our resident guest priest, Fr. Raul Cuyag
led the short opening prayer and blessing
of the food. Dinner immediately followed.
There was no formal program prepared,
but none the less it was a fun night full of
karaoke singing and dancing. Indeed it is
always a good feeling to experience the
lighter side of our priests, who never fails
to enjoy the simple joys in life.
We thank the Lord for the gift of life and
priestly ministry He has given to Fr.
Herbert. As a Community, let us continue
to pray that Fr. Herbert will remain faithful
in fulfilling God‟s mission for him on earth,
-19-
and that he be granted with good health
to keep him going through.
Happy birthday, Fr. Herbert!
SEPTEMBER 14, 2016 – BEC CORE
GROUP MEETING
The weekly BEC Core Group meeting was
held again last Wednesday, September
14, 2016 at the 2nd Floor of the Parish
Formation Center. BEC Tibagan with their
Asst. BSL, Sis Tess Silabay led in singing the
joyful song, while their Youth Leader, EJ
Bulilan led the opening prayer.
The reflection for the 25th Sunday in
Ordinary Time was given by Msgr. Nestor
Cerbo, enlightening everyone that GREED
is an obstacle to attaining eternal
salvation. God wants us all to be saved so
we must at all times, refrain from being
greedy of wealth and all the material
things on earth. Rather, he encourages
that we use our riches in helping our
brothers and sisters in need. Msgr. Nestor
also added that we should be honest and
trustworthy in all our dealings, especially
with the responsibilities entrusted to us.
Many could easily relate to the topic, that
there were more than the usual sharers for
the night.
After the sharing, business matters
followed. Among the important subjects
discussed were:
Youth Ministry General Assembly on
September 17.
Catechists‟ Day to be celebrated
along with the Youth Month Closing
on September 25.
Dalaw Hilum & Dalaw Balik-loob –
Legion of Mary was reminded to
cascade the schedule to their
presidia.
BEC Vicariate Formation to be hosted
by our parish on October 1.
Fundraising suggestions for SJBP
Development 2019.
Reminder on the submission of
Constitution & By-Laws for all
Ministries, Organizations, and
Movements.
In relation to the “Styro & Plastic Recovery
Caravan” happening in our parish on
September 18, 2016, the Ministry on
Ecology invited Sis. Daisy Coroza, from the
Polystyrene Packaging Council of the
Phils., Inc. (PPCPI) to give a talk on the
importance of waste segregation and
how our waste could still be valuable to
others, if we just know how to dispose
them properly. Sis Daisy said that the
Recovery Caravan is their way of
increasing people‟s awareness on Solid
Waste Management, and instilling this
way of life to them. At the end of the day,
we are all stewards of God‟s creations, so
we should be responsible in caring for it.
The meeting ended with a final blessing
from Msgr. Nestor.
