１．新旧試験のレベルの対応

新しい日本語能力試験（新試験）では、レベルが N1 から N5 の 5 段階になりました。2009年までの試験（旧

試験）の級とは下の表のように対応しています。

２．各レベルの得点区分と合否の判定（合格点・基準点）

新試験では、総合得点と、各得点区分の得点の二つで合否判定を行います。つまり、総合得点が合格に必要

な点（合格点）以上であることと、各得点区分の得点が、区分ごとに設けられた合格に必要な点（基準点）以

上であることの二つが必要です。N1～N3とN4･N5は、得点区分が異なります。各レベルの合格点及び基準点は下

の表のとおりです。

The Japanese-Language Proficiency Test in 2011 (July) Understanding JLPT Score Reports and Certificates of Proficiency

The Japan Foundation Japan Educational Exchanges and Services

All examinees of the JLPT will receive a Score Report. Successful examinees will receive a Certificate of Proficiency for the level taken. The JLPT has been renewed starting with July test in 2010, and the methods for scoring and determining pass/fail have changed. Please refer to the following for additional information.

1. Corresponding levels of new and old tests The new JLPT offers five levels from N1 to N5. Levels in the new and old test through 2009 correspond as in the tablebelow.

2. Scoring sections for each level and pass/fail determination (overall pass marks and sectional pass marks) In the new test, pass/fail is determined by the examinees’total score and also their score for each scoring section. In other words, the total score needs to be at or above the point required for passing (overall pass mark), and scores of individual scoring sections need to be at or above the minimum point required for passing (sectional pass marks). Scoring sections of N1-N3 and N4-N5 are different. Overall pass marks and sectional pass marks for each level are shown in the table below.

【得点区分について】

新試験では、試験の結果を「得点区分」にしたがって表示します。「得点区分」は、試験を受けたときの「試験科目」とは異なっています。N1、

N2、N3 の得点区分は 3 区分、N4、N5 の得点区分は 2 区分です。

【尺度得点について】

新試験では、試験を受けた人の日本語能力がより正確に得点に表れるようにするために、得点の出し方を変えました。

旧試験の得点は「素点」でした。これは「何問正解したか」をもとに計算する得点です。試験問題は、どんなに注意して作っても、毎回少し

ずつ難しさが変わります。ですから、素点の試験では、試験が難しかったときと易しかったときとでは、同じ能力でもちがう得点になることが

あります。

新試験の「尺度得点」は、試験を受けた人ひとりひとりがどのような問題にどのように答えたか（どの問題に正解して、どの問題をまちがっ

たか）を調べて、それぞれのレベルの尺度（ものさし）の上で計算して得点を出します。同じレベルの試験は、いつも同じ尺度（ものさし）を使っ

て計算します。ですから、試験が難しかったときでも易しかったときでも、どの回の試験でも、同じ能力なら同じ得点になります。

このように、尺度得点を使うと、試験を受けたときの日本語能力をより正確に、公平に、得点に表すことができます。

３．試験結果の通知：合否結果通知書の見かた

【Scoring sections】

Results of the new test are given according to scoring sections. Scoring sections are different from test sections. N1, N2 and N3 have three

scoring sections, and N4 and N5 have two scoring sections.

【Scaled scores】

The new test adopts a new scoring method to more accurately reflect examinees' Japanese-language competence in scores.

Scores in the old test were raw scores calculated by the number of correctly answered questions. It is inevitable that the level of difficulty of

the test changes slightly from session to session no matter how carefully questions are designed. Depending on test difficulty, this sometimes

results in different scores for the same competency when raw scores are used.

With scaled scores of the new test, how individual examinees answer particular questions (which questions are answered correctly and incorrectly)

is reviewed and scores are calculated based on scales for each level. The same scale is always used for the same-level test. Therefore, regardless

of difficulty of tests at different times, examinees with the same proficiency have the same score.

As outlined here, scaled scores can more accurately and fairly indicate Japanese-language competence at the time of tests.

3. Notification of test results: Understanding Score Reports ● For N1, N2 and N3

※ If an examinee misses a required test section, scoring is not conducted and he/she is judged to have failed. The examinee will receive a Score Report※1 yet it does not show scores for any test section, including those that have been taken. Scores are shown as asterisks (for example **/60) in the score columns.
