    Auletta (SA)

    An Interesting Competition

Some days ago, I was asked to be part of the juryof this architectural / town planning / ideascompetition called: "Auletta, your ideas live here".

It deals with a lovely little town in Southern Italyand its territory. Too long to explain all thedetails, if you are interested you can follow thelink.

Anyway. The theme is very nice, the brief isorganized in a smart way, the people involved arevery ok. For once, I don't have to worry about thejury, because I am part of it.

I know a lot of smart designers follow my dailynotes, check the weblink and submit your project(the deadline has been postponed to 16th ofFebruary).

    Viareggio

Giancarlo Bigazzi (the gentleman at the center ofthis image), died yesterday in Viareggio. In the

Italian XXth Century pop poetry he was best. NonItalians might remember "Gloria" or "Ti amo" (sungby Umberto Tozzi). If you are Italian here a shortlist of goosebumps songs: "Luglio", "Lisa dagli occhiblu", "Montagne Verdi" + many more

To me, the best was reached when he founded(together with Daniele Pace, Tot Savio, AlfredoCerruti and Elio Gariboldi) the Squallor. As aSquallor founder member, he wrote all their lyrics,

fantastic poetry of absolute level (althoughgenerally labeled under "trash"). In trash we trust.Byebye Giancarlo.

    Thankx for all.

Some days ago, apoet died. : (

Not only this cruise-ship story is beyond incredible. Also, the visual records are extremely peculiar.Like the scuba-divers in the Salone degli Affreschi.A fake Sistine Chapel slowly sinking, mysteriousbodysnatchers coming from the underworlds, tragedy, wiretapping and farce.

    -Yayoi Kusama, Obliteration Room-

This idea (of living in a world where common senseis very uncommon) was the final agreement wehad with Elio Caccavale when we left each otherin Breda.

To illustrate the concept, nothing better than animage from Yayoi Kusama's Obliteration Room. Here some more images: http://www.facebook.com/media/set/

"One day I was looking at the red flower patternsof the tablecloth on a table, and when I looked upI saw the same pattern covering the ceiling, thewindows and the walls, and finally all over theroom, my body and the universe. I felt as if I hadbegun to self-obliterate, to revolve in the infinityof endless time and the absoluteness of space, andbe reduced to nothingness. As I realized it wasactually happening and not just in my imagination,I was frightened. I knew I had to run away lest Ishould be deprived of my life by the spell of thered flowers. I ran desperately up the stairs. Thesteps below me began to fall apart and I fell downth e stairs straini ng my ankle"~ Yayoi Kusama

In retrospective, to get out of Milan just beforethe coldest two weeks in twenty years, that, itwasn't a really bad idea...

One thing I like very much when flying Gulfairlines is this fact of having a personal screen alsoon Economy Class.

    Miracles and Attitudes

-from: Dino Buzzati, I miracoli della Val Morel-

If I had to summarize two days of works, lots of

interesting people and ideas, I would go forsomething like this:

"In design schools they used to teach you skills, now they should suggest you attitudes".
