    GRADUATE PROFESSIONALENTRY DEGREES

    Graduate professional entry degreesfrom the University of Melbourneoffer intensive, focused study andprofessional knowledge, making youjob ready.

    Designed with the needs ofinternationally mobile graduates inmind, these qualications are endorsedby the Australian government aspathways to professional employment inAustralia. Many are also recognised byprofessional bodies around the world.

    Master of Philosophy (MPhil)The Master of Philosophy is aninternationally recognised mastersdegree by research. It is designed todevelop advanced skills in carrying outindependent and sustained research.Youll write a thesis of between 30 000and 40 000 words.

    The usual duration of the MPhil is oneand a half to two years, full time.

    A COMPLETE UNIVERSITYEXPERIENCE

    For graduate students, the residentialcolleges provide not only a placeto live convenient to the Parkvillecampus, but a complete learningexperience that will enhance yourgraduate studies. Graduates are offeredseminars, small tutorials tailored to theircourses, mentoring, and networkingopportunities as part of their residency.

    The colleges give graduate studentsthe opportunity to be as involved incollege life as they wish, and often havegraduate-specic events in additionto whole-college activities as part of avibrant social, sporting and academicprogram.

    Graduates can also become seniormembers of leadership groups,mentor younger students, and can

    even become tutors to reduce fees.Attending a residential college canopen doorways in a graduatescareer, a unique aspect of the collegeexperience.

    YOUR HOME

    The colleges offer a wide range ofpurpose-built graduate accommodationonly a stones throw away from theUniversity, including single en suiterooms, self-contained ats and sharedapartments and houses with othergraduate students. Many of these havebeen very recently built.

    All colleges have both male andfemale residents who come to collegefrom a diverse range of backgroundsand locations. Residents mostly dinetogether in their colleges dining hall, agreat place for the community to cometogether, and for taking a break fromthe days studies.

    All rooms are fully furnished, andhave internet and phone connections.Communal areas include music rooms,sporting and recreational areas, librariesand IT labs, many of which are open 24/7.

    Typically, college residence is for 35to 52 weeks a year, with studentsdifferent study periods taken intoconsideration. Some colleges offerlimited accommodation suitable tocouples and families.

    HOW TO APPLY

    Students thinking about applying fora college place are encouraged tovisit each colleges website, to checkwhich of the colleges offer the kindof graduate experience the student islooking for. When applying, studentschoose one college as their rstpreference, and list the rest in order ofpreference, to ensure the best chance

    of receiving a place.

    SCHOLARSHIPS ANDFINANCIAL ASSISTANCE

    The colleges aspire to make the collegeexperience accessible to all and will offerover $3.5 million in scholarships andbursaries in 2013. Financial assistanceusually takes the form of a reductionin fees. Employment opportunities,including tutoring and mentoring,can substantially assist with costs ofresidence.
