 1. Why are you seeking the endorsement from Stonewall Democrats of Dallas?

I have always enjoyed the support of Stonewall Democrats of Dallas and I have

been proud to claim it. Specically! I have always supported the goals of the

organi"ation. #ven before Stonewall e$isted in Dallas! I was a supporter of the %&'(

community)having done substantial legal work in the 1*+,s in the case of 'aker v.

Wade! which sought the elimination of Section -1., of the (e$as /enal 0ode. s a

longtime member of the State Democratic #$ecutive 0ommittee! I was instrumentalin securing the seating of Stonewall as add2on members of the statutory committee.

3ost recently! I was in the judicial forefront on the swift implementation of same2se$

marriages in Dallas 0ounty! and! as &ocal dministrative District 4udge for Dallas

0ounty! I was the point

 -. What are your plans to participate in a coordinated campaign in the general

election?

I have always participated in the coordinated campaign. In fact! as Dallas 0ounty

Democratic 0hair! I was the rst to implement a modern2day coordinated campaignin Dallas 0ounty -5 years ago. lthough I do not have a 6epublican opponent! I will

nevertheless contribute to the overall e7ort! as I have in the past. In fact! two years

ago! I ran a symbolic campaign for the Dallas 0ourt of ppeals so that I would be

able to participate in the coordinated campaign)which I could not have done

otherwise because my o8ce was not on the ballot that year.

 . When elected! how will you recruit! retain! and create a friendly environment for

&%'( and &%'(2friendly sta7?

I really only have one sta7 person. We have always had a friendly environment in

this regard. (he 0ourt is friendly also. We were one of the leaders some years back

in the adjudication of gender marker changes. @ow! Dallas 0ounty is the only major

county in (e$as where all civil district judges! like myself! permit gender markerchanges.

5. Would you be willing to appoint a liaison to meet with the &%'( community on a

ongoing basis? If not! why?

I have no hesitancy in doing this. IAd prefer to be that person.

 . Bnderstanding that administrative matters can take up a signicant percentage of

your work day! what are some ideas for policies or procedures that you think you

can improve court operations for the court which you are seeking o8ce? What arethe most important policies or procedures youCve identied as needing

improvement?

6ealistically! the district courts are very often at the mercy of the commissioners

court and the district clerk in major respects. s &D4! I work with both of these to

attempt to make our operation more e8cient. Since I came to the court in 4anuary

-,,*! I have implemented a variety of technological changes in the civil district

courts that improve our performance. 3any of these seem mundane! but such

things as coordinator and judge scanning capabilities! along with e2mail

communications with counsel! are just two.

 . Eow would you handle a situation in which you or an employee under you felt the

need to not fulll all your lawful work duties due to Fdeeply held religious beliefsG?

Hh my. I just donAt see this. (he job reuirements must be performed regardless.

 (his situation would not arise with me! but if a subordinate refused to do so! that

individual would have to leave.
