■第 １ 位■チョウコ　ビーン（熱海）/ BEEN Choko

　生けるものみな無力なる野分かなLiving creatures / all helpless / against the typhoon

（評）大自然の働きの前では、生きとし生けるもののすべてが無力な存在であるという広く一般に通じる理念が表出されているのだが、それを抽象的な言い方にせず、野分の通りすぎた後の世界を示して、そこに生じる植物や虫たちの無惨な姿を思い起こさせている。この具体性によって私たちは大自然の強さと、その前にひれ伏すしかない生き物の哀れさが実感出来る。野分という季題の想起させる力を上手く利用している。

The common aspect of all living things is that they are helpless before nature, as stated here. By suggesting the disaster-hit plants and insects after the typhoon, the writer avoids an abstract generalization. We truly grasp the power of nature, and the weakness of small living things in a concrete way. The season word nowaki ( lit. ‘field-cleaving wind’ ) is well used here.

だ。これは先進国と途上国、金持ちの世界と貧乏人の世界などいくらでも応用が利くだろう。理屈に頼っている面もあるが、マスクと太陽にリアリティがあり、現実に対する我々の意識を覚醒させる力を持つ句だ。

Considering the news nowadays, the mask here symbolizes the human world suffering from the new coronavirus. On the contrary, birds are living freely drenched in the brightness. There are two different worlds coexisting. This contrast could be applied to other areas. Although a little theoretical, the sun and the mask are powerful enough to make us aware of our attitude to the real world.

■第 ３ 位■大高霧海（東京）/ OHTAKA Mukai

　鰯雲天に潮騒あるごとくThe mackerel sky ... / the sound of the sea / from heaven

（評）鰯雲の広がる空はまさしく海面を思い浮かばせる。しかし、この句は単に見た感じが似ていると言っているだけではない。そこから音を感じ取っているのだ。そして、音を感じ取ると、そこから生じる動きも自然に連想される。空一面の鰯雲を、動きあるものとして把握し、さらに聞こえぬ音まで聞き取っている感覚の鋭さが、描かれた大自然を生きたものとしている。

The mackerel sky reminds us of the sea surface. Not only the visual resemblance, but the writer also senses the sound, and the movement. The delicate sense of the writer, who evokes the mackerel sky with movement and unheard-sound, makes the described natural scene lively.

■第 ４ 位■介弘紀子（福岡）/ SUKEHIRO Noriko

　海を見る夫の背にある秋思かなGazing at the sea / my husband’s back revealed / pathos of autumn

（評）秋の寂しさに導き出される物思いを夫の背に感じ取っている。強く逞しく自分を支えてくれた夫が、今はなぜか寂しさ、弱さを見せているという

一つの発見がここにある。ここに普段知っている夫とは違った雰囲気を見いだしたのだが、その夫は海を見ている。海には憧れも希望もある。大きな世界を前にした気持の昂ぶりもある。夫の秋思はむしろ希望とも言えるものだろう。

The writer senses the melancholy of the autumn in the back of her husband. He’s been strong and reliable, but now is showing loneliness and weakness. The writer finds the unusual impression of her husband, who is looking at the sea. His melancholy could be a kind of hope instead, considering the great ocean offers both desire and hope.

■第 ５ 位■栁川邦彦（三重）/ YANAGAWA Kunihiko

　月一つ末枯の野にあるばかりOver / the withering field ... / the moon alone

（評）秋も深まってくると、野の草も枯れ始め、蝶や蜻蛉などの姿もなくなる。その寂しさを詠んでいるのだが、直接にその寂しさを言わず、月があるだけだと言っている。これによってすべてが死滅したような末枯れの野の寂しさがかえって強く生じ、月の孤独感まで迫ってくる。俳句はこのように直接的に叙述せず、一つ二つの景物を取り上げて、雰囲気を暗示することが大切だ。

In late autumn, wild plants are withered, and butterflies or dragonflies disappear. Without directly saying so, the writer says the moon is there alone. By saying so, the loneliness of the withered field becomes strongly felt and the solitariness of the moon becomes apparent. When creating haiku, it is important to highlight different objects and to suggest beyond them.
