Herzog de Meuron envisioned a museum

formed by clusters of pitched structures

which would apply itself to the archetype of barns,

small residential buildings and sheds

which artists had previously converted to make use as their studios

The gallery spaces of the design are clustered in a grid form

towards the centre of the building

the administrative space, cafE, terrace, and AUDITORIUM are placed at the ends of the linear structure.
