Class attendance is mandatory. One hour of daily practice outside of the classroom is the required minimum. Pianos
are available in the practice rooms and the Piano Lab.
Exams:
The student will be given a weekly grade based on attendance, participation, and progress. Scale exam dates are
listed separately. The Final Exam will be based on progress of skills including the scale exam and any solo or
ensemble repertoire assigned during the semester. The scale exam will be based upon the accuracy of finger
patterns, knowledge of key signature, and chord structures affiliated with each scale. The Piano Proficiency hearing
will be held during the week of finals and must be scheduled with the Instructor.
Attendance:
The student will receive a daily grade based on promptness, participation, and applications of new material
presented. A student may miss no more than 25% (7 times) of the Class Piano course before that student is
administratively withdrawn from the course or given an automatic "F".
Piano Recitals:
Each fourth (4th) semester piano student will be required to participate in a Departmental Recital. One (1)
memorized piece will be presented by the student. Duets are no longer a requirement but can be presented based on
the Instructor's discretion. Each student will perform a prepared, memorized piece at the end of each semester
during the regularly scheduled class time for a Final Grade. An absence or late arrival to a scheduled recital requires
notification to Instructor of one hour prior to recital. The notification will be documented and determined excused or
unexcused by Instructor. Since early notice of recital date has been provided, the Instructor expects all students to be
in attendance, properly prepared, professionally dressed, and on time.
Juries:
All non-piano majorswill not be required to present themselves for Jury evaluation at the end of each semester.
Communication:
The student is responsible for giving Instructor a viable email address and is responsible for any information
exchanged in that electronic communication.

assignments, departmental recital attendance, and preparation of recital piece. An Incomplete will not be given.
Music majors are required to attend all Departmental Recitals.
