MARKING GAUGE AND CUTTING

EMOTION

Today  I  was  very  interesting  and  fun  because  this  time  was  my  first  time  that  I  worked  at  the  DT  workshop.  Also  it  was  hard  for  me  to  cut  a  long  piece  of  softwood  by  using  the  tenon  saw  because  it  is  to  use  much  power.    

WHAT  I  DID

Mr.Anderson  taught  us  how  to  measure  the  length  of  wood  and  the  middle  area  of  wood  and  how  to  mark  on  the  wood  to  use  the  making  gauge.  Then  I  measured  a  long  piece  of  softwood  to  145mm  long  by  using  the  ruler  and  square  ruler  and  I  marked  the  line  on  them.  Also  the  middle  of  wood,  too.  And  I  cut  the  line  which  is  I  marked  on. WHY    The  reason  why  Mr.Anderson  taught  me  how  to  measure  and  to  mark  them  is  because  that  I  was  the  first  time  so  I  didn't  know  what  could  I  do.  I  measured  the  length  of  wood  and  marked  on  them  are  because  of  cutting  them  more  accurate.    

LEARNER  PROFILE    I  was  a  inquirer  because  I  was  curious  and  enjoyed  learning  which  is  marking  and  cutting  to  use  many  kind  of  tools.  Also  this  time  was  my  first  time  to  work  in  DT  workshop,  so  I  was  very  wondering  all  things.  I  really  enjoyed  this  activity.  PLAN

Next  time  I  am  going  to  cut  another  piece  of  wood  and  drilling.  AREAR  OF  INTERACTION  (AOI) I  think  this  project  is  involved  with  human  ingenuity.  I  will  give  my  project  to  my  brother  when  I  finish  this  project.  Because  this  3-­‐piece  puzzle  is  for  children  and  maybe  it  is  useful  to  study.  My  brother  isn't  study  very  well.

RE-MARKING AND CUTTING

Today  I  marked  the  gauge  again  because  the  size  of  one  piece  was  not  correct.  I  had  to  marked  to  change.  Also  I  couldn't  drilled  my  pieces  because  at  the  pedestal  drill,  there  were  to  be  full  of  the  my  classmates.  So  I  was  little  bit  tired  today.  

WHAT  I  DID   Mr.Anderson  taught  us  two  types  that  how  to  drill  the  middle  area  of  all  pieces  and  after  to  drill,  how  to  cut  the  middle  area  by  using  the  chisel  and  the  wooden  mallet.  In  the  class,  I  marked  the  line  again  because  that  I  marked  little  bit  big  and  I  cut  the  No.2  piece  which  is  the  number  3  picture  at  the  rightward.    

WHY   The  reason  why  Mr.Anderson  taught  me  how  to  drill  and  cut  is  because  that  we  needed  our  safe  and  to  do  more  better  and  correctly.  And  I  marked  a  little  bit  bigger  than  45mm.  Also  I  cut  like  No.3  picture  at  right  because  there  are  full  at  drill  machine  so  I  used  the  saw  and  cut  that.  

CHANGES  TO  YOUR  PLAN

I  didn't  drill  holes  because  I  said  above,  there  were  to  be  full  so  I  couldn't  drill.  

LEARNER  PROFILE   In  this  time,  I  was  risk-­‐taker  because  I  had  courage  to  try  new  thing  like  cutting.  Also  I  was  really  curious  about  how  can  I  drilling  and  cutting  very  easily  and  well.  

PLAN   Next  time  I  will  drill  holes  at  the  middle  area  of  wood  piece  which  is  that  I  marked  the  sign  “X”.  AREAR  OF  INTERACTION  (AOI)  I  think  this  project  is  involved  with  human  ingenuity.  I  think  this  kind  of  works  is  all  for  human  and  this  little  job  also  include  the  process  of  creation.  So  I  think  it  relates  to  Human  Ingenuity.

DRILLING AND CHISELING

Today  when  I  used  a  chisel,  I  was  scaring  of  it  because  I  was  afraid  to  splitting.  So  I  chiseled  very  carefully,  but  it  happened  about  that  I  was  worried.  It  was  being  split!  I  was  so  sad  about  it.    

WHAT  I  DID

Today  I  worked  on  that  and  finally  finished  to  drill  it.  I  drilled  a  few  holes  on  the  wood  pieces.  Those  holes  were  useful  and  I  chiseled  it.  I  had  to  drill  a  hole  just  inside  of  the  line  which  is  that  I  marked.  When  I  chiseled,  I  used  a  rubber  mallet  and  chisels  (12mm  and  20mm).  I  had  to  be  careful  because  it  could  be  split  if  I  use  too  many  power.  I  was  little  bit  scared  that.  But..  it  was  broken.  So  I  asked  to  Mr.Anderson,  he  said  that  if  I  glued  it,  it  will  be  okay.  So  after  period,  I  glued  my  broken  piece.    

WHY   If  I  drill  a  hole  over  the  line,  the  hole  might  be  loose.  To  drill  drill  was  helped  me  to  cut  out  a  little  piece,  that  unnecessary  and  hardly  to  cut.  If  I  cut  just  to  use  a  chisel  without  drilled  holes,  then  it  might  be  split  easily  and  takes  too  long  time  than  drilling  holes.  I  think  to  drill  is  useful  skill  in  this  step  and  chiseling.

Nothing.  I  just  followed  my  plan.  

LEARNER  PROFILE   I  was  a  inquirer  because  I  was  curious  and  enjoyed  learning  which  is  drilling  and  chiseling  to  use  many  kind  of  tools.  Chiseling  is  little  bit  hard,  but  it  is  nice  to  me.    

WHAT'S  NEXT

Next  time  I  will  still  chisel.  I  finished  only  one  wood  piece  out  of  three  pieces  today.  AREAR  OF  INTERACTION  (AOI)  I  think  this  project  is  involved  with  human  ingenuity.  Because  it  was  made  by  me  without  machine.

CHISELING AND TRIMING

Today  when  I  was  chiseling,  I  did  it  very  carefully.  I  didn't  want  to  break  my  piece  again.  So  I  was  tired  because  of  my  worried.  And  also  I  was  boring  because  today  I  was  chiseling  again.  

WHAT  I  DID

As  above,  today  I  chiseled  again  like  last  class.  I  used  a  wood  mallet  and  12mm  and  20mm  chisels.  When  I  chiseled  these,  I  did  it  really  really  carefully.  And  after  chiseling,  I  did  trim  it.  When  I  needed  trim,  I  used  the  flat  head  file.  But  it  was  just  for  big  side.  I  need  small  size  it  like  triangle  shape.  But  I  couldn't  find  it  so  I  couldn't  trim  that  I  had  to  do.    

WHY   Why  when  I  was  chiseling  I  was  to  do  carefully  because  last  time  I  broke  one  piece  of  all  so  I  didn't  want  to  happen  like  that  again.  It  was  scaring  to  me.  So  I  was  very  careful.  And  if  I  did  trim,  the  side  which  is  I  trim,  it  was  more  smooth  so  it  is  more  better  so  I  did  trim.  Trim  is  to  help  that  it  became  more  smoothly.    

CHANGES  TO  YOUR  PLAN

Last  time,  I  said  I  am  going  to  finish  chiseling  so  I  finished  them  and  I  did  trim.  

LEARNER  PROFILE   Today  I  was  knowledgeable  because  I  learnt  that  when  I  chiseled  very  strong,  it  might  be  split  so  I  have  to  glue  it  or  remake  that  for  last  class.  So  today  I  did  my  project  to  consider  that  knowledge  so  I  was  knowledgeable.  

WHAT'S  NEXT

Next  time  I  will  cut  some  piece  and  still  doing  trim.  

 AREAR  OF  INTERACTION  (AOI)  Human  Ingenuity.  This  kind  of  works  is  all  for  human  and  this  little  job  also  include  the  process  of  creation.  So  I  think  it  strongly  relates  to  Human  Ingenuity.

RE-MAKING AND WAXING (FINISH)

Today  I  was  not  so  good  because  I  had  to  make  the  third  piece  again.  But  when  I  finished  all  project,  I  was  little  bit  happy  because  I  think  'now,  I  finished!  I  don't  need  to  do  this  anymore!'  

WHAT  I  DID

First,  I  finished  cutting  some  piece  and  finished  to  file.  So  I  went  to  Mr.  Anderson  and  I  asked  him.  But  he  looked  not  good.  He  asked  me  to  make  the  third  piece  again.  That's  meaning  is  that  I  had  to  make  third  piece  again!  (Like  drilling,  chiseling,  filing...)  So  I  did  that  and  finished.  I  think  it  didn't  spend  time  much.  So  after  finished  all,  I  waxed  it  and  cleaned  wax.  

WHY   As  above  I  said,  today  I  needed  to  make  third  piece  again.  It's  because  that  Mr.  Anderson  said  it  was  little  big  size  so  I  needed  to  make  that  one  again.  And  also  I  waxed  my  pieces  because  if  I  waxed  them,  their  surface  would  be  ^  Waxing  smooth  and  they  will  feel  better.  And  also  if  I  didn't  clean  them,  they  would  be  sticky  and  smells  not  so  good  for  long  time  so  I  cleaned  them.  

CHANGES  TO  YOUR  PLAN

I  said  last  time  that  I'm  going  to  file  and  to  cut  something.  But  somethings  were  added.  I  needed  to  make  third  piece  again  it  is  first  changing  thing  and  also  I  finished  my  project.    

LEARNER  PROFILE   Today  I  was  thinker  because  I  thought  that  how  to  file  very  well  and  looks  nice  and  also  when  I  made  third  piece  again,  so  I  thought  and  did  very  carefully  not  to  spilt  again.  

WHAT'S  NEXT

Nothing  because  today  I  finished  all  things  of  my  project.
