1. Core LayerPada layer ini bertanggung jawab untuk mengirim traffic secara cepat dan andal. Tujuannya

hanyalah men-switch traffic secepat mungkin (dipengaruhi oleh kecepatan dan latency). Kegagalan pada core layer dan desain fault tolerance untuk level ini dapat dibuat sbb :

Yang tidak boleh dilakukan : tidak diperkenankan menggunakan access list, packet filtering, atau routing VLAN. tidak diperkenankan mendukung akses workgroup. tidak diperkenankan memperluas jaringan dengan kecepatan dan kapasitas yang lebih besar.

Yang boleh dilakukan :

melakukan desain untuk keandalan yang tinggi ( FDDI, Fast Ethernet dengan link yang redundan atau ATM).

melakukan desain untuk kecepatan dan latency rendah. menggunakan protocol routing dengan waktu konvergensi yang rendah.

2. Distribution LayerPada layer ini sering disebut juga workgroup layer, merupakan titik komunikasi

antaraaccess layer dan core layer. Fungsi utamanya adalah routing, filtering, akses WAN, dan menentukan akses core layer jika diperlukan. Menentukan path tercepat/terbaik dan mengirim request ke core layer. Core layer kemudian dengan cepat mengirim request tersebut ke service yang sesuai.

3. Access LayerPada layer ini menyediakan aksess jaringan untuk user/workgroup dan mengontrol akses dan

end user local ke Internetwork. Sering di sebut juga desktop layer. Resource yang paling dibutuhkan oleh user akan disediakan secara local. Kelanjutan penggunaan access list dan filter, tempat pembuatan collision domain yang terpisah (segmentasi). Teknologi seperti Ethernet switching tampak pada layer ini serta menjadi tempat dilakukannya routing statis.

Dalam hal ini saya mencontohkan topologi Universitas Ahmad Dahlan Yogyakarta yang sudah menerapkan desain tersebut dengan detail spesifikasi teknis sbb:

Core Layer di tangani mesin core.uad.ac.id BSD Minded dipadukan dengan Cisco Catalyst L3 (support multilayer) [118.97.x.x] dimana menangani jalur backbone utama ke ISP dan jalur Inherent

Distribution Layer di tangani mesin router Mikrotik 3.23 level 6 menangani routing terpusat, jadi semua unit /lokasi tidak ada NAT kecuali untuk Lab, sehingga kita bisa terhubung ke semua device pada masing-masing unit /kampus.

Access Layer ditangani mesin Mikrotik Router 3.23 level 6 dengan di bantumanagable switch besutan Nortel dengan spesifikasi Nortel 2550T menangani VLAN di masing-masing kampus.

Pembatasan Masalah :Kami hanya akan membahas tentang dedicated router pada hierarki WAN.

Power Connectors • Customers can provide power to a switch by using either the internal power supply or the Cisco RPS 2300. The connectors are located at the back of the switch.Note: The Cisco Catalyst 3560-8PC and Catalyst 3560-12PC do not have an RPS port.

• Internal-Power-Supply Connector

• The internal power supply is an autoranging unit.

• The internal power supply supports input voltages between 100 and 240 VAC.

• Use the supplied AC power cord to connect the AC power connector to an AC power outlet.

• Cisco RPS Connector

• The connector offers connection for an optional Cisco RPS 2300 that uses AC input and supplies DC output to the switch.

• The connector supports up to six external network devices and provides power to two failed devices at a time.

• The connector automatically senses when the internal power supply of a connected device fails and provides power to the failed device, preventing loss of network traffic.
