TALK to any working mum andthe topic of child care will sooncome up.
Many parents struggle to findappropriate, affordable care, which economists say is crucialfor female participation in theworkforce.
Thankfully, an Engadine mum ishelping parents find their waythrough the maze of differentstyles of care and seemingly end-less waiting lists.
Donna James started Local ChildCare whose website can be foundat www.localchildcare.com.au.
The service, which is free forparents, allows them to search bysuburb or by type of care (longdaycare, family care, nanny ser-vice) or they can look for servicesoutside the area.
There is also a monthly newslet-
ter which provides updates onvacancies.
Mrs James said she has had an‘‘amazing’’ response from parentsas well as child-care centres.
‘‘It is really rewarding,’’ she said.Mrs James said people can get a
good feel for a centre from visitingthe website and viewing photo-graphs.
The site lists 61 centres for Suth-erland Shire and 32 for St George.
There is also information onpreschools as well as child-friendlysites and local job vacancies.
