183.580 Static pressure test for fuel tanks.A fuel tank is
tested by performing the following procedures in thefollowing
order:(a) Fill the tank with air or inert gas to the pressure
marked on the tanklabel under 183.1!(b)().

183.584 Shock test.A fuel tank is tested by performing the
following procedures in thefollowing order:(a) 2erform the static
pressure test under 183.8,.(b) f the tank is non*metallic $ll it to
capacity with a gasoline that hasat least a , percent aromatic
content. 4eep the fuel in the tank at +1 5&
or higher for 3, days prior to testing.(c) 6ount the tank to the
platform of an impact test machine.(d) Fill the tank to capacity
with water.(e) Apply one of the following accelerations within
three inches of thecenter of the hori7ontal mounting surface of the
tank. he duration ofeach 9ertical acceleration pulse is measured at
the base of the shocken9elope.(1) f the tank is not labeled under
183.1!(b)(8) for installation aft ofthe half length of the
boat apply 1,,, cycles of +g 9erticalaccelerations at a rate of 8,
cycles or less per minute. he duration ofthe acceleration pulse
must be between and 1! milliseconds.
