Throughout the year 2010, there will be plenty of celebra-
tions and festivities in Tiveden & Norra Vättern to honour
the anniversary of Örebro 2010.
Jean Baptiste Bernadotte, later Karl XIV Johan, was elected
heir to the throne in Sweden 200 years ago, and the elec-
tion took place in this area.
The center for Tiveden & Norra Vättern´s celebration is the
Castle of Stjernsund that Jean Baptiste owned and used for
overnight stays on his travels to Oslo and Karlsborg.
Stjernsund will offer guided tours, theater performances,
lectures, folk dance and festival - all in an air of times gone
by, royal splendor and French inspiration.
During the year, several major events in the county will
have a touch of the anniversary Örebro 2010. Among other
things, French band will perform at the Jazz-festival in
Askersund, the chocolate festival “Chokladsalongen” will
have French chocolate and a parade will be arranged during
the French national holiday, Bastille Day. Look for this sign
in this brochure for more anniversary inspiration.

– like a fairytale…Once upon a time, there was a wild forest where
towering trees and mighty boulders refl ected in the
crystal clear water of the lakes, and where deep
caves whispered about mysterious events. People
made their way to experience the natural wealth
of nature – on foot and by boat – in a place they
thought did not exist. The forest stretched all the
way to a big, big lake where waves sometimes
reared up as high as at sea, and where shiny boats
and glittering fi sh criss-crossed the water between
the islands of the archipelago. In the small towns
and villages, people were strolling about the lively
harbour areas and on idyllic cobbled streets -
many on their way to or from the markets, others
simply enjoying the scent of sizzling food and the
enticing music. And those who had never been
there – the place where the forest meets the
archipelago and small town – never really knew
what they were missing…

Find peace Visit the Chinese Park in Bastedalen, a harmonic
garden with water features such as the unique red
water lilies. Harmony is also to be found at the
lake Fagertärn, the habitat of the red water lilies.
Take a walk down the royal footpathThe Castle of Stjernsund is situated on a headland
in the northern part of Lake Vättern and said to be
one of the most beautiful castles in Sweden. Here can
you take part in festivities and celebrations concern-
ing the anniversary during the year.

museums found all over the county. Trip not to be

Monastery ruins at RamundebodaThe only (excavated) monastery of the Antonit-
order in Sweden is situated in Ramundeboda. It
was in use 1475-1530, as a hospital monastery.
They gave their time to the sick and provided
shelter for pilgrims and travelers.

Th e swinging townThe Trad Jazz Festival kicks off on the weekend before Midsummer
each year, with all of Askersund swinging to the beat.
Ch ocolate for all Come to Askersund in September, the home of Chokladsalongen,
the Chocolate Salon. A place to enjoy chocolate in all its forms,
shapes and fl avours.
Art out, art inGreat art experiences you will fi nd in Norra Vätterns annual art-tour.
Art lovers will also enjoy “Konst i Ring”, an open-air exhibition in
Tived.
Motor sp ort s of all kindEvery summer, Laxå motor stadium arranges various racing
competitions.

Th e harbour of entertainmentEvery Wednesday during the summertime there is mixed entertain-
ment in Askersunds harbor. Among many other things one can

SwimmingLazy days at the beach are just the thing in the sum-
mer! Our Tourist offi ces can give you tips of good
beaches in Vättern and many other nearby lakes.
Horseback ridingToday there are 170 kilmeters (106 miles) of bridal
paths in Tiveden, of course there are also pony
rides for the children. Contact the Tourist Offi ces
for more info.
CyclingStora vargleden, Skagern-runt and Tivedsrundan
are some of the cycle routes available for a beauti-
ful daytrip.
Golfi ngÅmmeberg offers a great 18-hole golf course situat-
ed on the banks of lake Vättern. It boasts a beautiful
cafeteria, restaurant, and golf shop. Laxå offers a
9-hole golf course driving range and putting green.
A holiday can be whatever you want it to be – especially here in Tiveden & Norra Vättern.
And the decision is a fairly easy one: simply do what you most enjoy doing!

FishingLake Vättern is a well known fi shing paradise in-
cluding plenty of crayfi sh. First-class fi shing can
also be found in the lakes Unden and Skagern with
a high richness of species.
Bowl & DriveGet a strike at Laxå Bowling & Gym, or why not
enjoy a bowling lunch of good friends. For a little
higher tempo, come and take a look at cross,
enduro, rallycross and crosskart at Laxå Motor
club.
CanoeingRent a boat and experience the northern parts of
lake Vättern with its unique wilderness archipelago
or take a quiet canoe trip on Tiveden´s canoe route.
HikingAll our hiking trails can be enjoyed during spring,
summer and autumn. Adjust your choice to
weather and your mood. Hike the newly prepared
Bergslagsleden in Tiveden, or why not explore the
islands of the archipelago by foot.

The next decade will see a series of exciting developments, following a period of important investment decisions. A new pre-school will open this year and a new centre for learning and culture will follow in 2011. We are investing in children and young people, in enterprise, in the culture and leisure sector, as well as in high-quality housing de-velopments. At the moment, fiber optic network is being installed in the homes of all villages with more than 200 inhabitants. With passion, courage and commitment we are
making Askersund an even better place to live and work.
