Baptisms:
Arrangements must be made by parents through the Rectory Office to schedule baptisms and arrange for Pre-Baptism classes. All parents expecting to baptize their first child are to attend Pre-Baptism classes.
Weddings: Arrangements should be made with a priest through the Rectory Office at least six months prior to the desired date. All couples must attend Pre-Cana classes which are normally scheduled in March.

У вівторок 21-го листопада ми
святкуємо величний празник -
Введення в храм Пречистої Діви
Марії. Це свято відкриває нам деякі
сторінки з дитячих років життя
Богородиці. Празник Введення говорить нам про
радісну жертву святих Йоакима і Анни. Вони, свою в
Бога вимолену донечку, самі приводять до храму на
службу Богу. Та не тільки батьки радо приводять
свою дитину до Храму, але і Марія радо йде за
голосом Божим і своїх батьків. Як святі Йоаким і
Анна, так і Марія є для нас гарним образом і
прикладом радісної жертви і служби Богові.
Може ще ніколи Христова Церква не переживала
такого великого браку покликань на священиків,
монахів і монахинь, як сьогодні. Дух матеріалізму
щораз більше й більше проникає в наші родини, тому
щораз менше й менше маємо молоді, охочої на жертву
й посвяту для Бога, своєї Церкви й народу. Щораз
менше в нас батьків, що за прикладом святих
Йоакима і Анни були б готові сказати нашій Церкві:
"Прийми дитину Богом мені дану".
Ознакою глибокої релігійності якогось народу є не
тільки його величаві й численні церкви й монастирі,
але передусім його численні покликання, тобто
священики, місіонарі, монахи й монахині. Нічого не
поможуть нам навіть найкращі святині й золоті
престоли, коли не матимемо священиків, що в тих
храмах і на тих престолах приносили б Безкровну
Жертву, уділяли б святі Тайни і голосили б Слово
Боже. Слуга Божий митрополит Андрей Шептицький
каже: "Зрозумійте, що народові треба до спасіння
ревних і святих священиків". Де шукати розв'язки
цієї важливої проблеми? Де властиво родяться і
виростають духовні покликання? Найкращий
городець, де ростуть і дозрівають покликання до
священичого й монашого стану – це добрий
християнський дім. "Добрий родинний дім — це
перша духовна семінарія". Свята Церква часто
називає родинний дім колискою покликань. Дух
жертви в родині для Бога і своєї Церкви є дуже
важливим у плеканні покликань. Без духа жертви
нема любові, бо жертва - це мова любові. Тому батьки
повинні прямо від колиски виховувати своїх дітей до
жертви й посвяти.
Майбутнє нашої Церкви й народу в дуже великій
мірі залежить від того, як наші батьки будуть
виховувати своїх дітей. Нам необхідні батьки, які за
прикладом святих Йоакима і Анни радо
благословили б своїх дітей на досконалу жертву для
Бога, своєї Церкви й народу. Нам необхідна духовна
молодь, що за зразком Пречистої Діви Марії радо
йшла би за Божим голосом на службу Богу, Церкви і
народу. І тільки тоді зможемо сміливо дивитися в
майбутнє нашої Церкви.
In our Byzantine tradition, on November 21st, we
celebrate the Feast of the Entrance of the Mother of God
into the Temple. This event is not found in the Scripture.
It is found in the apocryphal Protoevangelium of James.
Apocryphal writings are very ancient Christian writings
that didn’t make it into the collection of books that form
the Bible. James says that Joachim and Ann brought
Mary to the temple to be presented to the high priest, at
the age of three. There she was to be raised among the
virgins consecrated to God’s service until the time to get
married.
Tradition picked up on that event, and it entered our
liturgical calendar as one of the 12 major feasts. Why is
this event so important? Why do we celebrate it? The
purpose of this feast is not so much to commemorate a
historical happening, as to celebrate a mystery of the
Christian faith, namely, that every human being is
created to be a living temple of God.
We are invited to look at the spiritual meaning of
Mary’s entrance into the temple. By entering the temple,
she is entering into a new spiritual reality.
At the Epistle reading for this feast we hear from St.
Paul, in his letter to the Hebrews, a short description of
the Temple of Jerusalem, with its outer sanctuary and the
inner one, the Holy of Holies. That was a sacred place in
which only the high priest could enter, and only once a
year. The Holy of Holies was the place on earth where
God dwelt. Soon that temple was to be destroyed, but
God was preparing a different temple for his dwelling; a
living temple: Mary.
Mary was brought to the Temple where the Holy
tabernacle was. She was received by the high priest to be
prepared by the Holy Spirit to become herself the Temple
of the Lord, a living temple, a Holy tabernacle, where
God incarnate, Christ, the High Priest of the New
Covenant would abide. That’s why the tropar for this
feast says: “The most pure Temple of the Savior is led
into the temple of the Lord.”
We also hear: “Hail, fulfillment of the Creator’s plan,”
because by becoming the temple of the Lord and bearing
Christ in her womb, she is contributing to God’s plan of
salvation; fulfilling the promise God made to send his
Son to save us.
As we celebrate this feast of Mary, who entered into the
Temple to become herself the temple of the Lord, we are
reminded that we are also living temples of God, as St.
Paul says in his second letter to the Corinthians.
We praise Mary, the Living Tabernacle, who carried
Christ within her and shared him with the world, and ask
her to help us live like living temples of God and shared
Christ with others.

MOLEBEN TO CHRIST EMMANUEL
In preparation for the Feast of the Nativity of our Lord, we will
be celebrating a Moleben to Christ Emmanuel on Wednesdays
at 6:00 PM during Phillip’s Fast, beginning November 22nd
. We
invite all parishioners to come and join us as we prepare for the
coming of Emmanuel - God With Us.
PHILIP’S FAST We have begun a new season in our Church, a period of
spiritual preparation for the celebration of the birth of
our Lord, God, and Savior, Jesus Christ. This season,
which lasts 40 days (from November 15th to December
24th) is called Philip’s Fast. This is a traditional time of prayer,
penance and fasting as we prepare our families and our hearts
to be the dwelling place of our Lord. Voluntary fasting from
meat products on Wednesdays and Fridays is recommended.
OUR SYMPATHIES
We wish to express our prayers and deepest sympathies
to the family of † Klara Czuchraj who was buried on
Tuesday, November 14, 2017.
May the Lord commit her soul to the place where the just
repose and may her memory be eternal.
RECTORY OFFICE CLOSED
The rectory office will be closed in observation of Thanksgiving
Day. The office will be closed from Wednesday, November 22nd
through Friday, November 24rd and will re-open on Monday,
November 27, 2017.
EVENING OF PRAYER & REFLECTION
The Department of Family Life of the Eparchy of St. Josaphat
will sponsor an evening of prayer and reflection in preparation
for the celebration of the Nativity of Our Lord on Friday,
December 1, 2017 at 6:00 PM at the Cathedral of St. Josaphat.
A Moleben to Emmanuel will be held followed by prayers for
our families. All are invited to take time out of our busyness
during this Phillip’s Fast and prepare ourselves and our
families spiritually for the Christmas Season.

MAKING CHRISTMAS BRIGHTER
Dear Parishioners,
During this Season of Philip’s Fast we are
encouraged to practice ALMSGIVING and
the spirit of CHARITY in preparation for
the coming of Christ Emmanuel. We want to give you the
opportunity to do that here at our parish. This year we
are reaching out to the local hunger center by donating
non-perishable food and other items. PLEASE HELP US
with this project by donating items for the hunger center.
We are accepting non-perishable food. You can drop your
donations in the boxes located in the church vestibule or at
the rectory office. There is a listing by the boxes with some
ideas of items you can donate. Let us do something concrete for our neighbors during this
Philip’s Fast. Let’s us share our blessings with those in need
and practice the spirit of charity. Your generosity will
certainly make their Christmas brighter and more joyous.
BIBLE CLASSES
The next session of Bible classes in the Ukrainian language will
be on Thursday, December 7, 2017 at 6:00 PM, in the Parish
Room in the Astrodome. This is also a good opportunity for
fellowship with your Christian brothers and sisters.
LUNCH WITH ST. NICHOLAS
“LUNCH WITH ST. NICHOLAS” in the Astrodome
on Sunday, December 10, 2017, 12:30 PM. Tickets
are $15.00. Tickets for this event will be sold the
weekend of November 19th through the weekend of
December 3rd after all Divine Liturgies and at the
Rectory during regular business hours until December 7th. St.
Nicholas will visit the children, musical entertainment &
program will be provided. Everyone in our Ukrainian
community is invited. Come and enjoy as we celebrate the Feast
Day of St. Nicholas. For information, you may call 440-886-
2108. NO TICKETS WILL BE SOLD AT THE DOOR.
AMERICAN RED CROSS BLOOD DRIVE
We are planning to have a two day Red Cross Blood
Drive here at St. Josaphat’s Parish. The tentative dates
for the blood drive are Saturday, March 17th & Sunday, March
18th. More information will be announced at a later date.
UZO The editorial board of the radio program "Ukraine" UZO (FM
- 90.3 WCPN Cleveland Public Radio) is seeking a radio
broadcaster. The primary responsibilities include the
preparation of weekly broadcasts, fluent Ukrainian language
capability, excellent judgment on topic selection and computer
skills. Please contact Dr. Yurko Jaskiw at (216) 496-6135 by
November 30th for further details.
THANKSGIVING PYROHY HOURS
For Thanksgiving week, we will be pinching pyrohy
on Tuesday, November 21st and selling pyrohy on
Wednesday, November 22nd from 7AM until 2PM.
We graciously thank our dedicated pyrohy workers who donate
their time and efforts each week to our Cathedral pyrohy
project.
HOMEBOUND PARISHIONERS
If you have a relative or know of any parishioner who
is homebound and cannot come to church, please let us
know so that Father Bohdan can visit them with the
sacraments and provide them with spiritual care.

Наступного тижня ліпимо вареники в вівторок
21 листопада, а продаж тільки у середу 22
листопада. Четвер і п’ятниця закриті з огляду
на День Подяки.

СВІТЛІШИМ ДЛЯ ІНШИХ
Протягом Пилипівки - Різдвяного посту,
коли ми готуємося до приходу Христа -
Еммануїла, ми маємо добру нагоду
вправлятися в такій чесноті як
МИЛОСЕРДЯ.
Під час посту ми збиратимемо продукти,
які перед Різдвом передамо до місцевого центру для
потребуючих "hunger center" . Ми приймаємо не
швидкопсувні, консервовані продукти, макарони, цукор,
сіль, муку, кетчуп, майонез і так далі. Повний перелік
продуктів є розвішаний в вестибюлі. Ви можете залишити
ваші пожертви в коробках у вестибюлі храму або в
парафіяльному офісі.
Згадаймо бідного євангельського Лазаря, який лежав при
воротях багача і чекав бодай на крихти хліба з його столу,
але і того не було. Ця Різдвяна акція зробить святкування
Різдва світлішим і радіснішим для наших сусідів, які є в
потребі.

У четвер 7 грудня в 6 – ій годині вечора запрошуємо усіх
бажаючих до парафіяльної кімнати в Астродомі на
Біблійні навчання, молитву і розважання.

ПИЛИПІВКА Ми розпочали Різдвяний піст - Пилипівку, який
триватиме від 15-го листопада і до навечір'я
Різдва Господа нашого Спаса Ісуса Христа - 24-
го грудня. Це є традиційний час на посилену
молитву, розважання, стримання від їжі і поганих
помислів, щоб в такий спосіб ми могли приготувати
себе на оселю для зустрічі з новонародженим
Христом. Церква рекомендує добровільне стримання
від м'ясних страв у середу і п'ятницю під час посту.

Висловлюємо молитви і глибокі співчуття родині
покійної † Клари Чухрай, яка була похована від
похоронного дому Головчак у вівторок 14
листопада 2017 року.
