You Are Some Sort of Scientist 你是某种科学家 It is gratifying to know that each of us is some sort of

scientist. Science deals with the repeatable, observable, and predictable phenomena. If you cook in the kitchen, you are a domestic scientist, because cooking involve all aspects of science. Cooking is certainly repeatable, observable, and predictable. I once cooked pork feet. The experience was enlightening. After cleaning the pork feet, they were placed in a medium size pot with some amount of water. Put the stove on high until it boils. Then turn the stove to low for an hour. It was not done yet because the ligaments in the bones were still intact. Although they were cooked, they could not be eaten. The stove was put on low for another hour. The ligaments began to get loosen. For best result, the pork feet should be put on for another hour. At that time, the pork feet will be ready. It is strict science. That’s why you can buy a cook book from a nuclear physicist for $600.

Science is Everywhere 科学无处不在 Science can be found everywhere, if you care to

look. Let me use my cooking experience again. My former landlady routinely threw away the egg white from duck eggs because it is too salty. Only the egg yolks are used in dumpling. Bakery kitchens do exactly the opposite. They throw away the egg yolks and keep only the egg white. The egg white, with a bit sugar, are mixed in a large mixer. They become white cream used in cakes. Some edible artificial colors can also be added to the cream to decorate cakes. That is how your birthday cake is made.

duck eggs since she would throw them away anyway. The first try was just to cook the egg white by itself. Sure enough, it was too salty to eat because it was saturated with salt water. I know that protein does not dissolve in water, because water is a polar molecule while protein is not. Based on this fact, I put large amount of water in a big pot. I put the stove on high and I kept stirring the water continuously until the water turned cloudy. It was a 15-minute experience.

thickened. The water became more viscous. If I stop stirring the water, then it would stop moving gradually because of the drag of inertia of the water molecules. At this time, I thought of the spiral of a galaxy. All stars move in a medium of hydrogen which provides the drag. If given enough time, the stars would stop moving. Because of gravitation, the stars would clump in the center and go into a black hole. This suggests that the galaxy cannot be eternal, otherwise we would have them.

on the surface of water because it is lighter than water. I then separated the protein into another plastic container. Now the egg white protein can be eaten although it is slightly salty. I probably removed more than two thirds of the sodium chloride from the duck egg white. Thank God for giving me the opportunity to know more about the wonders of His created world.

Vegetarian Shark 素食鲨鱼 The Creation 36(2) 2014 magazine has an article by the

above subject written by Dr. David Catchpoole. He reported that “a 1.8-meter (6 feet) nurse shark at the Birmingham National Sea Life Centre (UK) has turned vegetarian.

“Since 2009, Florence (as her handlers call her) has shunned any form of meat or fish. Instead she eats broccoli and cabbage and ‘any other greens she can steal from fellow ocean tank resident Molokai the green turtle.’

Her handlers are concerned that she is not having a proper diet, so they ‘use every trick that can devise’ to try to get her to eat meat. For example, they hide pieces of fish inside her celery, or in hollowed-out cucumbers, and between the leaves of lettuces.

“’She was off from her food for a good while when she first arrived from Florida with three other nurse sharks,’ explained Burrows. An ultrasound scan soon showed the problem. ‘The hook had previously been there for years and was badly rusted which is what made her so sick. She was put on antibiotics and made a swift recovery.’

“No doubt the trauma of the fishhook experience is a factor in Florence’s vegetarianism.

ancestors 6,000 years ago in the pre-Fall world didn’t eat fish either. Sharks developed their fish-eating habits only after Eve gave Adam the fruit from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, and he ate it (Gen 3:6). That action brought death, pain, carnivory and diseases in the world. So Florence’s capacity for plant-eating shouldn’t be too much of a surprise (even though she and other ‘vegetarian carnivores’ in today’s post-Fall world might need to augment their plant diet with fish or meat from time to time).

We wouldn’t want her to be an embarrassment to the other flesh-eating hammerheads and black-tipped reef sharks in the ocean tank.”

Keshe Plasma Generator Keshe 等离子发生器 Recently I watched the demonstration of a

fascinating Keshe plasma generator. The electrodes enabled the hydrogen ions to give up their electrons, and thus creating a voltage difference at the electrodes. It is amazing. What is more important is to demonstrate the current generated also, because the current indicates the amount of electrons flowing through the line. You can have 10,000 volts but very few electrons. the above subject written by Dr. Robert Carter. In Genesis 5:3-4, it says “When Adam had lived 130 years, he fathered a son in his own likeness, after his image, and named him Seth. The days of Adam after he fathered Seth were 800 years; and he had other sons and daughters.”

“It is true that Cain was firstborn (Gen 4:1), but scripture does not say anything about when sisters were born, not does it say that Seth was the third child or even the third son. We know that Seth was born when Adam was 130 years old, but also after another brother, Abel, was killed…

regards to birth rank. And think of it: 130 years is a long time for Eve to have had a mere three children! That’s only one child every 43 years. Seeing that Adam and Eve were commanded to reproduce, it might be assumed that Cain was born pretty early, perhaps a year or two after Creation Week. Abel was born after that, but not necessarily next. His name appears next, but this is because he is an important part of the story. Yet even if Abel was the second child, it is unlikely that Seth was the third….

sounds like the daughters always come after the first son is born, but I would argue it is more likely that Cain was of marrying age (and quite probably was already married, although we can never know), that there were already sisters present, that it is likely there were already unnamed brothers, and that Cain was perhaps already in his 120s when he murdered Abel. This is speculative, true, but this is more likely than Cain waiting to get married until after Seth was born and after sisters were born after Seth, and then waiting for them to grow up. It is even worse if he had to wait for nieces or grandnieces to come of age. The reproductive potential of people even in modern times (one child, on average, every 3-5 years when heavily nursing) suggests the named biological lineage is just a selection of all children born in the Genesis years.

Abraham married his half-sister Sarah (Gen 20:12). Abraham’s son Isaac married his closer-than-a-cousin Rebecca. And Jacob married his much-closer-than-cousins Leah and Rachel. In those early years, there was no law against marrying close kin.

the above subject written by Dr. Tas Walker. “Fish River Canyon is the second largest land canyon in the world, after Grand Canyon in the USA. It’s in Namibia, on the west coast of southern Africa, a country that’s a little larger than Texas, but with only a tenth of the population—just 2.2 million people.

“The Fish River flows over a remarkably flat landscape, into the Orange River along the border with South Africa. For three quarters of its 650-km length, the river runs across the land, but in its last quarter it cuts down into the rocks forming the spectacular canyon.

“In such an arid climate, how would the distinctive landscape around Fish River Canyon have been eroded? For all its dryness, the landscape looks like there was a lot of water flowing over it in the past. Water provides the clue.

the canyon from the lookout. This flat surface is even more obvious in satellite pictures, as available through Google maps. This flat land surface suggests that the area was eroded by a wide expanse of flowing water that eroded the rocks. Flat landscapes are a tell-tale signature of Noah’s Flood, in particular the period in the second part of that event when the waters were receding in wide sheets from the earth.

inner canyon itself. Although the canyon is deep, Fish River follows a meandering path. Further, it has maintained the same path as it cut through the thick layers of flat-lying sedimentary rocks and into the underlying metamorphic rocks. In other words, it has not cut sideways on the landscape but downwards. This means that the inner canyon started eroding when sea level was much higher, that the water flow through the canyon was high, and that the sea level fell rapidly so that the water flow eroded downwards rather than sideways.

The deep inner canyon is another signature landform of Noah’s Flood, of the period when the waters had mostly receded but were still flowing in large channels. attractions in southern Namibia. It’s considered a national monument. A modern tourist is located within the canyon at Ai-Ais, and a visitors’ lookout has been constructed near Hobas. Abundant interpretive information has been provided on Perspex signs at this lookout, and most of the material is excellent. But the geological information is presented using the geological philosophy that denies that Noah’s Flood ever happened. For people to be able to properly understand what they are looking at, and to make the connection between Fish River Canyon and what really happened on the earth, the geological information on the signs needs to include the Biblical perspective.”

subject written by Dr. Dominic Statham. “George Smith (1840-1876) had humble beginnings. He was born into a poor family in Victorian England and, having left school at the age of fourteen, had only a rudimentary education. He had many talents, however, and gained an apprenticeship as a bank note engraver, a demanding job that required strong technical drawing skills and excellent powers of observation. His place of work was near to the British Museum in London, which he visited regularly. He was fascinated by the many ancient clay tablets, with their strange characters composed of wedge-shaped impressions, known as cuneiform, and was later employed by the museum in their Department of Oriental Antiquities. He had remarkable abilities as a linguist, and was soon able to understand and translate the cuneiform scripts.

when, in 1872, he discovered an ancient Mesopotamian tablet containing an account of a world-wide flood. This was one of a number of similar tablets which together comprise what is now known as the Epic of Gilgamesh. In many details, the account of the flood was very similar to that found in Genesis and Smith regarded it as remarkable confirmation of the biblical story of Noah. In December of that year, he read a paper before the Society of Biblical Archaeology titled, The Chaldean Account of the Deluge. The meeting was eagerly awaited, and attended by many influential people, including the British Prime Minister, William Gladstone, himself a committed Christian.

Among the remains of the temple library, they found a tiny tablet fragment containing another account of the Flood. It was translated by Hermann Hilprescht, an expert Assyriologist, and was found to agree with Genesis remarkably in its details. It speaks of a deluge that would destroy all life, and how God commanded the building of a great ship in which the builder, his family and animals were to be preserved.

number of reasons, foremost of which is that the library in which it was found was known to have been destroyed around 2100 BC, when the Elamites invaded Nippur. Hilprescht believed it had been written sometime between 2137 and 2005 BC. In contrast, the Epic of Gilgamesh is understood to be a 7th century BC copy of a document produced no earlier than 2000 BC. Moreover its Flood tablet is thought to have been a later addition, produced from the Atrahasis account written, according to its own scribe, around 1800 BC. How then can the Gilgamesh epic be the original Flood story?

Are Diamonds Really All That Old?钻石是真的那么老？ The Creation 36(2) 2014 magazine has an

article by the above subject written by Dr. Jonathan O’Brien. “Jewellers sometimes tell awe-struck customers that diamonds have been sitting undisturbed in the ground for hundreds of millions of years, since before the time of the dinosaurs, just waiting to add sparkle to rings, necklaces and broaches. The British Jeweller’s Association says that all natural diamonds have existed for at least 900 million years, with the oldest specimens being 3.2 billion years old!

indicate a different reality. It is interesting to consider the compelling evidence that all natural diamonds are actually far younger.

“Recently a wooden log has been discovered in Canada deep inside a ‘kimberlite pipe’. Kimberlite is a volcanic rock that is one of the main sources of diamonds, and is often formed in the shape of a vertical ‘pipe’ that is wider at the top like a carrot. These pipes can be hundreds of meters across and might originate more than 150 km (over 90 miles) below the surface, in the earth’s mantle.

themselves come from the mantle. They are picked up by the kimberlite magma as it blasts to the surface, forming the pipe. Thus, the diamonds are older than the kimberlite rock.

“Interestingly, the wood is fresh, unfossilized (unpetrified), and was found more than 300 m (1000 ft) deep within the diamond-bearing rock. The wood likely got there by locally-catastrophic forces, as kimberlite pipes are recognized as having formed quickly and violently.

during the moment that the pipe burst through the surface of the ground. The wood is not the only fresh piece of timber found—there have been other cases of fresh timber having been found in diamond-bearing rock.

“The scientists report ‘pristine’ and ‘exceptional’ preservation of the ‘under-mineralized’ timber deep within the kimberlite. The wood is completely woody with ‘genuine cellulose’ present. This means that the ‘ancient’ timber, pulled straight from the rock, will burn just as easily as any ordinary wood. It has not even begun to turn into coal, but is just the same as any piece of wood you would find in a forest today. The presence of such fresh, unfossilized timber is a strong indication that the kimberlite rock is not millions of years old.

Are Diamonds Really All That Old?钻石是真的那么老？ “Secular scientists believe that the kimberlite rock

where the wood was found is 53 million years old, and that the diamonds themselves were formed many hundreds of millions of years earlier before being transported to the earth’s surface in the pipe. This is an interesting idea that it is stymied by some rather amazing evidence: Carbon-14 has been found within diamonds, which makes an age of hundreds of millions of years impossible. This is because the half-life of carbon-14 (5730+/-40 years) shows that it will have fallen below detection level within 100 thousand years. Even an age of 53 million years is far too high a figure for the age of the diamonds.

rock is 53 million years old, then the wood itself must be at least as old. But it is known that cellulose breaks down extremely rapidly. It would be indeed unusual if the wood were anything more than a few thousand years old.

“These days, diamonds can be made artificially, and they are just the same as natural diamonds. They are made by the exact same processes of temperature and pressure, out of the same material, carbon. With the right machines, a power source, and the extremely common ingredient, carbon, people can make diamonds in the time it takes to wash a car.

need billions of years to form. In fact, there is no reason at all for natural diamonds to take any longer to form than the ones made by people. The only reason diamonds are claimed to be billions of years old is because of a philosophical commitment to millions and billions of years. Secular scientists believe in such long ages because long time frames are a requirement for belief in evolution.

marketing slogan used by De Beer diamond mining company since the 1940s. The saying became popular, and naturally fed into the idea that diamonds were unimaginably old—but the evidence for this just doesn’t stack up in the light of new discoveries.

“The evidence of the fresh wood in the diamond-bearing rock, and of the carbon-14 found in diamonds, is consistent with the age of natural diamonds being far younger than long-agers and evolutionists claim. It is consistent with the biblical age of the earth.”

above subject written by Dr. Jonathan Sarfati. “It is claimed that the ‘birth’ of new stars has been detected. Some creationists think it is possible that some stars can form in conditions today, after Creation Week, just like all creatures alive today were not created then. Creationist and former full professor of astronomy Dr. Danny Faulkner explains the difference: ‘Stars are not very complex, and so-called “stellar evolution” (though I don’t necessarily accept all of it) is a different critter from biological evolution. So I don’t have a problem with the idea that a cloud of gas, created initially by God in a special unstable condition, or compressed by a shock wave from a nearby exploding star, might collapse under its own gravity and start to heat up to form a new star.’

skeptical that stars really have been seen forming: ‘When dark nebulae collide with emission nebulae, features like those noted in the Hubble Space Telescope (HST) image result. The dust pushes its way through the hot gas. Gas along the front edge of the collision compresses and glows hotter. This results in the whitish-appearing areas at the edges of the dark ‘fingers’ of dust. I presume that the temperatures of these areas are near 10,000 K so that they glow like the surfaces of stars of similar temperature, that is, white. Gas at such temperatures will quickly disperse and there is no chance of it forming stars. We should not be convinced that embedded stars exist within the ‘finger tips’ of these dust regions unless they are actually imaged.” Thank God for these contributions.

As signals from GPS satellites travel through the atmosphere, they experience a slight frequency shift that reflects the precise pressure, temperature, and moisture content of the air.

article by Alex Hutchison on the above subject. He said, “Fossil fuels are old-school. A newly identified renewable energy source is safe, portable, and free. It’s called spit. Researchers from Penn State and King Abdullah University of Science and Technology in Saudi Arabia have used saliva to power tiny microbial fuel cell that generates nearly 1 microwatt. Bacteria in the fuel cell break down glucose and other organic components of saliva to release energy. A current then runs between an air cathode and an anode made of graphene, an extremely thin carbon material. (The Penn State researcher, Bruce Logan, won a 2005 Popular Mechanics Breakthrough Award for earlier work on microbial fuel cells.) The technology could be used to power lab-on-a-chip diagnostic devices to allow women to predict ovulation or to help diabetics track their glucose levels.”

article by Alex Hutchison on the above subject. He said, “Iztapalapa is a Mexico City borough whose 1.8 million impoverished residents suffered from clean-water and electricity shortages. A new miniturbine designed by students at the Technological University of Mexico and test in Iztapalapa could help to tackle both problems. The Pluvia collects rainwater from a sloped roof and directs it through a microturbine and a second, charcoal-activated filter for further treatment. The microturbine recaptures some of the energy expended and stores it in 12-volt batteries that can be used for household lighting. The next step could be to connect units in a series, producing more power.”

He said, “Einstein called it ‘spooky action at a distance’—the fact that two particles can be entangled so that a change to one simultaneously influences the other, even if they are far apart. This bizarre quantum-mechanical effect has been used in encryption, sending theoretically unhackable data through secure networks. Now physicists at the University of Waterloo in Canada have entangled three photons at once, beaming them to locations half a mile apart. Three-way entanglement opens new possibilities in quantum cryptography. Lots of security systems require both the sender and recipient of information to have the same key.
