เรยนทานผอานทเคารพเวลาผานไปอยางรวดเรว แมวาเราก�าลงจะกาวสปพ.ศ. 2557 แตสงตาง ๆ มากมายทเกดขนทวนไทย ในรอบปทก�าลงจะผานไป ยงคงชดเจนในความทรงจ�าของผมจนถงบดน และผมขอแบงปนเรองราว อนนาประทบใจเหลานนใหแกทานผอานครบ

ทามกลางภาวะเศรษฐกจทล�าบาก วนไทยยงคงมภาพรวมผลการด�าเนนธรกจเปนทนาพอใจ โดย บรษทฯ ไดรบรางวล “Thailand’s Corporate Brand Rising Stars 2013” จากการมอตราการเตบโตของ มลคาแบรนดสงสดในกลมสนคาอตสาหกรรม ในการประเมนผลและจดอนดบแบรนดองคกรไทย ประจ�าป 2556 (Thailand’s Top Corporate Brand Values 2013) โดย คณะพาณชยศาสตรและ การบญช จฬาลงกรณมหาวทยาลย การประเมนครงนไดเกบขอมลจากบรษททจดทะเบยนในตลาด หลกทรพยแหงประเทศไทยจ�านวน 492 บรษท ตงแตปพ.ศ. 2553-2555

วนไทยยงคงใหความส�าคญตอการปกปองสงแวดลอมและการพฒนาสงคม ดวยความมงมนตลอดมา ท�าใหบรษทฯ ไดรบรางวลธรรมาภบาลสงแวดลอมระดบยอดเยยมหรอ “ธงขาวดาวทอง” ซงเปน ผลจากความส�าเรจจากการไดรบรางวลดงกลาวมาตลอดระยะเวลาหกปตดตอกน จากการนคมอตสาหกรรมแหงประเทศไทย นอกจากน สถาบนธรกจเพอสงคมภายใตการสนบสนนของตลาดหลกทรพยแหงประเทศไทย ยงมอบรางวล “CSRI Recognition 2013” ใหแกวนไทยเพอแสดงถงความมงมนในการพฒนาและด�าเนนธรกจอยางมความรบผดชอบอกดวย

แนนอนวา ความส�าเรจทเกดขน สวนหนงยอมมาจากพนกงานวนไทย บรษทฯ จงไมเคยหยดพฒนา ศกยภาพของพนกงานดวยการเสรมประสบการณ ความร และความสามารถ ใหกาวไกลสระดบสากล เหตนในปพ.ศ. 2556 บรษทจงสงพนกงานจ�านวน 6 คน ไปท�างานท Rusvinyl Limited Liability Company, Nizhny-Novgorod เพอชวยทดสอบระบบของโรงงานผงพลาสตกพวซแหงใหม ทประเทศรสเซย ซงการโยกยายครงนแสดงใหเหนถงการใหความส�าคญตอการเสรมสรางความเชยวชาญ ใหแกบคลากร นอกจากน บรษทฯ ยงสรางความมนใจในการเปนสถานทท�างานทปลอดภย โดยม กลยทธสความเปนเลศดานความปลอดภย ท�าใหสถตการเกดอบตเหตถงขนหยดงานเปนศนย และ จากผลการด�าเนนงานดงกลาวท�าใหบรษทฯไดรบรางวล Zero Accident Award จากกระทรวงแรงงาน

Dear Reader,Time flies! As we step into 2014, it is hard to believe that so much happened at Vinythai in just one year in 2013. So many highlights are still so sharp in my memory even now, so let me share a few of them with you.

Right at the beginning of 2013, we had the great honor to welcome HRH Prince Philippe of Belgium to our plant in Map Ta Phut Industrial Estate, Rayong, and HRH Princess Mathilde to our coral cultivation site in Samaesan, Chon Buri. Their visits made a great impression on everyone and boosted our morale, so that we redoubled our commitment to achieving our economic, ecological and social goals.

Despite difficult economic conditions, Vinythai continued to deliver a satisfactory overall performance. In doing so, we won a “Thailand’s Corporate Brand Rising Stars 2013” award for top brand value growth in the industrial products category, organized by the Faculty of Commerce and Accountancy, Chulalongkorn University. Our company stood out from among 492 companies listed on the Stock Exchange of Thailand that were assessed between 2010 and 2012.

We also continued to treat environmental protection and social development as top priorities. Reflecting this, Vinythai won an Environmental Corporate Governance Award from the Industrial Estate Authority of Thailand (IEAT), with the added distinction of a Gold Star as a result of recording success in this category for the sixth consecutive year. Not only that but the Corporate Social Responsibility Institute (CSRI) under The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET), officially recognized Vinythai’s track record of continuous adherence to sustainable social responsibility principles by awarding the Company its CSRI Recognition 2013 Award.

Obviously people who work for Vinythai are one of the key factors in its success. With this ever in mind, the Company never ceases to develop its personnel in terms of expertise, knowledge and competency while always pressing to achieve the applicable international standard. In this connection, six Vinythai personnel transferred to Rusvinyl Limited Liability Company, Nizhny-Novgorod, Russia in 2013, to help to commission a new PVC plant there, a move that underscores the expertise of Vinythai personnel in general. And by a similar token, the Company remains resolutely resolved to ensuring a safe workplace by truly placing safety first. Indeed, we view safety excellence as a pragmatic strategy for ensuring that we maintain and extend our remarkable zero accident record - an achievement that the Ministry of Labor has once again recognized by presenting Vinythai with a Zero Accident Award.

And so Vinythai continues to show strong determination to being a good corporate citizen and its commitment to sustainable development paves the way for a future in which not only will the Company continue to prosper but the world we all live in. Now what better New Year gift could there be than that?

Vinythai joins 3rd Anniversary Celebration of Community Partnership AssociationMr. Sompot Cheeranorawanich, Vice President, Corporate Affairs and Communications of Vinythai Plc. joined a press conference held at the Four Seasons Hotel in Bangkok to celebrate the 3rd Anniversary of the Community Partnership Association (CPA). Vinythai also reiterated its strong intention to join force as a CPA’s associate member in creating Eco Industrial Estate & Networks.

“Step Towards the 4th Year of Becoming an Eco Industrial Town” is the guideline that the CPA and its 18 associate members set as their work commitment to the society. The CPA also introduced its new President, Mr. Cholanat Yanaranop at this celebration which was presided by Mr. Peerawat Rungruangsri, Deputy Governor, the Industrial Estate Authority of Thailand.

Relationship between Vinythai and IEAT TightenedA team from Vinythai, led by Mr. Bruno van der Wielen, Managing Director, welcomed a group of representatives from the Industrial Estate Authority of Thailand (IEAT)’s Headquarters and Map Ta Phut Office for a two-day trip to Wai Island in Trad province, to share the experience of cultivating coral.

The IEAT team learned about the background of Vinythai’s coral cultivation project and enjoyed hands-on exposure to cultivating coral reefs with PVC pipes amidst fresh sea breezes and the beautiful scenery of Wai island. In the evening, everyone got together for a party at which the visitors received a surprise welcome from their hosts in the form of hand-made jasmine garlands made by Map Kha-Map Nai occupational group that they could pass on to their mothers on the occasion of Mother’s Day. The excursion provided the opportunity for IEAT and Vinythai personnel to share information on various topics and strengthen their inter- personal relations.

Vinythai Raises Student Awareness of Coastal Resources ProtectionVinythai has supported a Science Camp for Environmental Protection of Rayong Wittayakom Nikomutsahakam, held at the Marine Science Activity & Conservation Foundation supported by Vinythai Plc. in Samaesarn District, Chon Buri.

Besides learning about Vinythai, almost 60 students in grade 11 were instructed in coral reef life cycles, benefits of coral reefs to ecosystems, and how to cultivate coral with PVC pipes. The highlight of the program for the young people was getting a first-hand experience of life underwater on a snorkeling expedition.

The camp aimed to raise youth awareness of coastal resources protection issues, show them how to care for the environment and get them to also encourage their friends to become interested in coastal resource conservation.

“Coastal resources are natural assets which are very important to everyone. I believe that bringing youths to experience coastal resources conditions helps them get a much clearer appreciation of the necessity for environmental protection and a sense of imperative that we have to get to work now,” commented Mr. Sompot Cheeranorawanich, Vinythai Plc’s Vice President Corporate Affairs and Communications.

Annual Robe PresentationCeremony at Wat TaguanVinythai employees and Taguan-Ao Pradu locals once again joined together in a spirit of shared interests for Vinythai’s annual robe presentation ceremony at Wat Taguan. A rousing parade of local officers, Vinythai staff and locals arrived with the offerings of necessities for the monks and items for their religious practices before the presentation ceremony proper got underway. The donation this year would be used to help restore and renovate the temple. Indeed, the work got started the day before the ceremony when several Vinythai volunteers joined some locals in planting trees, cleaning washrooms and tidying up the temple’s surroundings. The activity certainly also served its other purpose of tightening relations between Vinythai and Taguan-Ao Pradu community.

วนไทยไดรบรางวลนครงแรกในป 2552 ระดบพนฐาน และไดระดบบรอนซในป 2553 และระดบเงนตงแตป2554 ถงปจจบน

Vinythai garners 5th “Zero Accident Campaign Award”Vinythai is recognized and obtains “Zero Accident Award 2013” for the fifth consecutive year. The campaign has been organized by the Ministry of Labor. The award was presented to Mr. Marc Jacqmin, Plant Manager, by Dr. Indrarita Nontavacharasirichot, Vice Minister for Labour, in a ceremony at the Department of Occupational Safety and Health Bureau.

The award recognizes Vinythai’s remarkable achievement of 5.7 millions working hours without the lost time accident, from 6 March 2008 till 31 December 2012. The annual awards aim to raise safety, health and environment management standards in the workplace.

Vinythai won its first such award at the basic level in 2009, adding a bronze award in 2010, and silver awards in 2011 to the present.

Vinythai Wins CSRI Recognition 2013 Vinythai Plc. was among 40 top leading listed companies which were selected by Corporate Social Responsibility Institute (CSRI), under The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET), to receive “CSRI Recognition 2013 Award” for their commitment to consistently running their businesses for society’s benefit and being a good model for other companies. The award presentation ceremony was organized at the Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET).

CSRI Recognition award was initiated in 2012 with an aim at giving recognition to listed companies which operate business with CSR in all aspects of their planning and operations, as well as management’s roles to drive CSR as companies’ key practice.

Vinythai Secures ‘Thailand’s Corporate Brand Rising Stars 2013 Award’Vinythai Public Company Limited has been honored with “Thailand’s Corporate Brand Rising Stars 2013” award for achieving top brand value growth in the category of Industrial Products. The award was presented by Professor Dr. Pirom Kamolratanakul, President of Chulalongkorn University, at Crystal Ballroom, Tawana Hotel, Bangkok.

Organized by Chulalongkorn Business School, Chulalongkorn University, the rankings for the awards are based on a new CBS Valuation Program developed by the school’s Associate Professor, Dr. Guntalee Ruenrom, and Lecturer Ake Pattaratanakul. The program was used to measure the corporate brand values of 492 companies listed on the Stock Exchange of Thailand during 2010 - 2012.

Vinythai’s brand value was assessed at 5,594,558,313 baht, with the highest growth rate 2,381.23% in industrial products category.

Thailand’s Top Corporate Brand Values award presentation ceremony has been annually organized since 2010. The awards were granted to companies in 8 categories: food and agro, property and construction, finance, consumer products, natural resources, technology, services and industrial products.

4th Noenphra-Vinythai Super Mini-marathon Concludes with SuccessRayong Deputy Governor, Mr. Warawut Pinngern, presided over the “4th Noenphra-Vinythai Super Mini-marathon” to win the HRH Princess Soamsawali Cups, held at Sangchan-Suchada beach in Rayong province. Open House for 10 CommunitiesIn another clear demonstration of Vinythai’s commitment to sustainability, Company management led by Mr. Marc Jacqmin, Plant Manager, welcomed a visit by locals from ten communities in Map Ta Phut. The party of around 200 locals was explained how Vinythai applies rigorous quality, health, safety, environment and social measures to its production, followed by a guided tour of the plant. Questions raised and suggestions made were answered and noted in a spirit of helpfulness and transparency.

The party then proceeded to Vinythai’s Coral Cultivation project at the Samaesarn community in Chon Buri where everyone had a chance to gain hands-on experience of cultivating coral. An added diversion to pay respects at Wat Chong Samaesarn followed. Before the visitors left, they were asked for their feedback and with a satisfaction rating of 90.38%, the event was evidently a success.

Vinythai joined the 11th International Coastal Cleanup DayMr. Bruno van der Wielen, Managing Director of Vinythai Plc., led over 150 employees and their famililes joining the 11th International Coastal Cleanup activity at Mae-Rumphueng beach, Rayong province. Around 2,000 people from 24 partners of the company, together with communities, students and the public, collected and separated garbage along Mae-Rum-phueng beach in Tapong district and Numrin-Payoon beach in Banchang district, over a total distance of some 11.5 km.

The annual event raises public awareness of coastal protection and garbage management and helps improve the local environment.

Altogether an amazing 162,997 pieces of garbage weighing 10,579 kilogram was collected by the volunteers. This included 86,018 plastic & rubber items, 61,420 organic items, 12,417 metal & glass items and, last but not least, 3,142 hazardous waste items.

Shareholders Visit PlantManagement team led by Mr. Bruno van der Wielen, Managing Director of Vinythai Plc. gave a warm welcome to around 70 shareholders for their visit to Vinythai’s plant at Map Ta Phut Industrial Estate, Rayong.

All visitors were updated on the Company’s business performance and activities, and had an opportunity to ask questions, give suggestions and be shared with information during Mr. van der Wielen’s presentation and a plant tour.

Furthermore, Vinythai invited the visitors to visit its coral cultivation site at Samaesan Sub-district in Chon Buri province. They learned about the project background, types of corals growing in Samaesan sea and how to propagate the corals with PVC pipes. This activity not only impressed all visitors but it also let them realize Vinythai’s commitment to the coastal resources protection.

Vinythai boosts logistics efficiency with RFID technologyOver 200 trucks coming in and out at Vinythai plants throughout the day. Some carrying various raw materials to the plants. Some deliver our quality products including PVC, caustic soda and epichlorohydrin from the plants to consumers nationwide. Without the current excellent logistics management, the transport and distribution may be delayed and damaged.

“Our interest in RFID technology started in 2006 when we doubled our production capacity. We needed larger volume of raw materials and more distribution capacity, and that means we had to manage more trucks. We were looking for technology solution that could facilitate, accelerate and reduce mistakes in ground transport of chemicals.” explained Mr. Suchat Penglee, Logistics Department Manager.

Besides RFID technology, IT Department of Vinythai and Carpediem Consulting jointly developed fleet management solution (QMS), which links the data with SAP software of Vinythai for management of raw materials, inventories and sales reporting.

In this logistics system, the company’s Logistics Department announces its requirements to transport companies via QMS web page at least one day in advance. On the scheduled date, the driver drives the truck to the scale station and touch the “Truck ID Card” on RFID reader to enable the QMS to recognize the truck company, purpose (pick-up or delivery) type of chemicals and the accurate weight. After that, the loading slip is printed out from RFID reader.

After loading, the driver drives the truck back to the scale station to check the accuracy of product type and volume. The QMS then syncs the data with SAP system to deduct the volume of product from the stock. The delivery slip is issued to the driver.

RFID technology helps streamline the process at the scale station which used to take 3-5 minutes/truck to only 30 seconds/truck. It boosts up the logistics management capacity up to 260 trucks/day. This technology helps support Vinythai future business expansion and ensure accurate stock management without spending more money to build additional scale stations.

100 Years of PVCSure, PVC was first discovered, sometimes involuntarily, in the 19th century. But it was in 1913 that a patent was awarded to Friedrich Klatte for the polymerization of vinyl chloride. Exactly one hundred years ago. We should have more healthy centenarians like this! Chemist and physician Henri-Victor Regnault discovered the polymerization of vinyl chloride in 1838 by accident. He had exposed bottled monomers to sunlight and the mixture turned into a white solid. The first intentional synthesis is credited to the German chemist Eugen Baumann in 1872. But he never asked for a patent for this product, whose potential was far from understood at the time. We were not much more enlightened 40 years later when Friedrich Klatte (mentioned above) was unable to find a commercial application for the invention which he, this time, had patented. Klatte had also used solar rays to produce polymerization.

The industrial history of PVC really started with Waldo Semon, a researcher for the firm BFGoodrich. In 1926 he perfected plasticized PVC, or vinyl - a malleable material like a gel which showed striking similarities to natural rubber. But once again, BFGoodrich had difficulty finding profitable commercial uses. Several companies then started production in the United States (1933) and Germany (1935), where it served as a substitute for rubber in electric cable insulation, followed by France in 1939.

From the end of the First World War, Solvay worked salt deposits, notably in the Jura where they were abundant and the firm had a plant in Tavaux. In 1930, production of chlorine by the electrolysis of a salt solution started there. But it was during the period between 1945 and 1948 that Solvay started macromolecule chemistry, from which the most important product was the vinyl chloride polymer, PVC. Polyolefins, their copolymers and various more complex polymers followed.

Inevitably, applications multiplied after the Second World War thanks to the calendering technique which opened up the important leather market to PVC, with the famous skaÏï or Artificial leather. In the mid-1960s, PVC began to replace glass in packaging. Progress in extrusion technology then opened the way for the development of applications in the construction sector, in the form of piping, gutters and window frames.

PVC is 100 years old and provides us with immeasurable services. Safe and reliable, it fulfills numerous trustworthy functions in the medical world: blood bags, surgical tubes, safety bags, receptacles for sterilized products, to name just a few. PVC safety is also a vital attribute for packaging in the food sector, for protecting and insulating electric cables, for manufacturing toys and many other so-called “sensitive” products. Supple and flexible, it adapts to hundreds of uses requiring variable forms such as wall, floor, ceiling and facade coverings. It is also widely used in design and for making large art objects that stand out from the crowd.

Inexpensive and extremely resistant, PVC is a construction product greatly appreciated for its high performance levels and excellent value for money. In addition to the applications mentioned above, PVC is widely used for frames, tubes and pipes. It is even more valued for its durability and long service life of more than 50 years, offering a long-term solution which greatly exceeds 10-year guarantees.

Worldwide production of this material then exploded, growing from 220,000 tons per year in 1950 to 6 million tons in 1970, 18 million at the end of the 1980s, and 26 million in 2000, despite virulent and often ill-informed criticism from ecologists. This was the time when the various players in the plastic industry got together behind a unique type of initiative. In order to guarantee, improve and build awareness of the innocuousness of PVC and the long-lasting benefits it can bring, they formed Vinyl 2010, continued today under the name of VinylPlus. Selecting Windows for Energy Efficiency (Part 1)Almost 60% of household energy consumption is related to the air condition, which are related to the heat transfer from outside building through the room. Well installation building with new window technologies have increased energy benefits and comfort, and have provided more practical options for consumers.

There are 3 major types of energy flow occur through windows ie.(1) Non-solar heat losses and gains in the form of conduction,

convection, and radiation(2) Solar heat gains in the form of radiation(3) Airflow, both intentional (ventilation) and unintentional

(infiltration)

Insulating ValueHeat flows through a window assembly in three ways ie. conduction, convection, and radiation.

ConductionHeat transfer by conduction refer to thermal energy transfer that take place (travelling through a substrate) when temperature different between two sides of material.

ConvectionHeat transfer by convection refer to thermal energy transfer occurring by movement of fluids that carry the heat from one place to another place. In building is normal caused by air movement RadiationHeat transfer by convection refer to thermal energy caused by emission or absorption of electromagnetic waves. Solar heat gain through the buildingSolar heat gain through the building envelop, window channel or glasses. Using the right choice of glassing will contribute the significant energy saving in variable aspects.

Solar heat gain coefficient Solar hear gain coefficient is ratio of solar heat (infrared) passing through the glass to incident solar heat. The origin of

solar heat gain is the direct and diffuse radiation coming from the sun and the sky (or reflected from the ground and other surfaces). Some radiation is directly transmitted through the glazing to the building interior, and some may be absorbed in the glazing and indirectly admitted to the inside.

Shading coefficient; SCShading coefficient is the value that determine the thermal performance of glass in a building or window, door panel, is the ratio of solar gain (passing through the glass panel per the solar energy pass through 3 mm clear float glass. This value is referred as an indicator to show the Thermal insulating performance (shading) when it has direct sunlight on glass panel. Visible Transmittance Visible transmittance (VT), is an optical property that indicates the amount of visible light transmitted through the glass and providing the daylight that creates the opportunity to reduce electric lighting.

ภาพรวมและแนวโนมการลงทนของประเทศไทยในป 2556

ตามรายงานการลงทนโลก (World Investment Report 2013) ทจดท�าโดยองคการสหประชาชาตวาดวยการคาและการพฒนา (UNCTAD) ประจ�าป พ.ศ. 2556 ชใหเหนวา แนวโนมการลงทนโดยตรงจากตางประเทศนน แมจะลดลงในภมภาคอน ๆ แตในทางกลบกน ภมภาคอาเซยนยงคงมแนวโนมการขยายตวของปรมาณการลงทนโดยตรงจากตางประเทศอย โดยเฉพาะประเทศไทยนนถอวายงไดรบความสนใจมากเปนอนดบท 8 ของโลก และอนดบท 4 ของทวปเอเชย รองจากจน อนเดย และอนโดนเซย

จากสถตของส�านกงานคณะกรรมการสงเสรมการลงทน (BOI) พบวาในป 2556 ไทยไดรบการลงทนจากตางประเทศคดเปนมลคา 278,600 ลานบาท โดยญปนยงคงเปนประเทศทลงทนมากทสด รองลงมาไดแก มาเลเซย ฮองกง สงคโปร และเนเธอรแลนด ตามล�าดบ

นอกจากน ในชวงตนปทผานมา BOI ไดปรบนโยบายยทธศาสตร การลงทนใหม โดยสงเสรมในกจกรรมทถอเปนเปาหมายใหชดเจนยงขน ใน 10 กลมอตสาหกรรมหลก ไดแก 1. กลมโครงสรางพนฐานและ โลจสตกส 2. กลมอตสาหกรรมพนฐาน 3. กลมอตสาหกรรมการแพทย และเครองมอวทยาศาสตร 4. กลมอตสาหกรรมพลงงานทดแทนและบรการดานสงแวดลอม 5. กลมธรกจบรการสนบสนนภาคอตสาหกรรม 6. กลมเทคโนโลยพนฐานขนสง 7. อตสาหกรรมอาหารและแปรรปสนคา

Thailand’s Investment Overview and Outlook 2013

According to the World Investment Report 2013 of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), despite foreign investment retractions in other regions, foreign investment in ASEAN tends to grow continuously with Thailand ranking the 8th of the world top investment destinations and following China, India and Indonesia as the 4th of Asian countries in this category.

The figures of the Board of Investment (BOI) shows that in 2013, total foreign investment in Thailand is worth Baht 278.6 billion with Japan as the biggest investor, followed by Malaysia, Hong Kong, Singapore and the Netherlands respectively.

Early this year, the BOI has implemented its new strategies, focusing more on activities. The 10 major industries under this new scheme are 1. Basic infrastructure and logistics; 2. Basic industry; 3. Medical devices and scientific equipment; 4. Alternative energy and environmental services; 5. Services that support the industrial sector; 6. Advanced core technologies; 7. Food and agricultural processing industry; 8. Hospitality and wellness;

9. Automotive and other transport equipment; and 10. Electronic industry and electrical appliances.

The BOI also promotes new industrial clusters in each region to create new investment concentration by providing basic incentives and additional incentives based on each project’s merit for benefits to the country. In addition, outbound investment is also promoted by the BOI. The 3 target groups are 1. Indonesia, Myanmar, Viet Nam Cambodia and Lao; 2. China, India and other Asian countries; and 3. the Middle East, South Asia and Africa.

Thailand remains a major and highly potential investment destination. It enjoys a strategic location and serves as a gateway into the heart of Asia with easy access to the region’s dynamic markets. Its infrastructure and logistics development policies can also provide even more motivation for investors to invest in Thailand.
