Afghanistan Energy Infrastructure, generation, transmission and distribution were almost destroyed over the past three decades due to the war and conflict. The government of Afghanistan corporatized the National electricity service department Da Afghanistan BreshnaMossasa (DABM) into an independent state owned utility as such, all assets, staff and other Rights and Obligations of (DABM) were transferred to (DABS) on May 2008.

DABS’ shares are owned by the Government, voted on by Government representatives. As per the Articles of Incorporation, the Initial capital shall be AFS 25 billion; the ultimate capital shall be AFS 100 billion

AFGHAN POWER GRID Essentially the Afghan Power Infrastructure is categorized into 4 general networks:

I. North East Power System; (NEPS) consisting of a grid linking 17 load centres (Kabul, Mazar-i-Shariff, Jalalabad, etc) with Uzbekistan and Tajikistan (220kv, 110kv)

II. South East Power System (SEPS) consisting of Khandar, etc linking Kajaki (110kv)

III. Herat system linking the Herat Zone with Iran (132, 110kv)

IV. Turkmanistan system linking Herat, Aqina, Andkhoi East/West, ShirinTagab, Mimana, Khoja Doko, Sarepul, Shibirghan, Mazar (110kv)
