However, not every invention is a product

Step 1: Learning About Inventors

Need is the mother of invention. Your idea for an invention will come from something that you or someone you know needs.

Step 2: Finding an Idea


Step 3: Research and Planning

What can I read about that will help me with my invention? Whom can I talk to about solving problems and planning properly? What materials will I need? How can I control the cost of my invention? What steps should I follow? How much time should I allow for each step? How can I test my invention? How can I be sure my invention is safe to use?

Step 4: Developing, Testing, and Displaying

If you have difficulty with a certain part of your invention, talk to an expert. Try different things until you overcome the difficulty.

Most of all, don't give up!

As Henry Ford, one of the inventors of the automobile, once said, "Failure is only an opportunity to start again more intelligently."


Step 5: Attending the Invention Convention

You will be talking to judges about your work, and later you will be showing your invention to visitors. Try to convince the judges that the world needs what you have invented.

Try to visit the other inventors to see and admire their work. Keep an open mind and be positive. Be proud! You are a scientific problem solver.

* ไคเซ็น (การปรับปรุงใหดีขึ้น) เปนการปฏิบัติงานโดยใชสติปญญาของคน ในการทํากิจกรรมเองซึ่งไมไดเปนคําสั่งจากเบื้องบน จึงเปนลักษณะเฉพาะพิเศษของกิจกรรมนี้

* ไคเซ็น ไมใชเปนกิจกรรมที่เสร็จสิ้นแคครั้งเดียวแตจะทําอยางตอเนื่องและไมมีท่ีสิ้นสุด

กุญแจแหงความสาํเร็จของไคเซ็น


KAI คือ ContinuousZEN คือ Improvement

ดังน้ัน KAIZEN เทากับ Continuous Improvement คือ การปรับปรุงอยางตอเนื่อง ภายใตกระบวนการ Plan-Do-Check-Act คือ การดูปญหา วางแผนหาวิธีแกปญหา ทดลอง แลวตรวจสอบวาแกปญหาไดหรือไม

ตัวอยางการทําไคเซน็


• รถ Honda โกลคารด ในสวนสนุกท่ีใหเด็กขับชนกัน ทุกๆเย็นจะมีการเก็บน็อตท่ีหลุดจากรถไปซอม โดยตองพลิกรถดูวาหลุดจากคันไหน ซ่ึงม ี20 คัน วันไหนโชคราย ก็เจอในคันสุดทาย โชคดี เจอตั้งแตคันแรก มีคนเสนอไคเซ็น ใหทาสีน็อต หรือทําเครื่องหมายใหตรงกับรถแตละคัน ปรากฏวา เปนไคเซ็นท่ีกรรมการตัดสนิไดรับรางวัล แตก็มีคนแยงวา เปนไคเซ็นท่ีไมไดแกปญหาที่ตนตอ ควรคิดน็อตชนดิท่ีไมหลุดถึงจะเปนไคเซ็นท่ีดี ประธานออกมาสรุปวา ตองการไคเซ็นท้ังสองแบบ เพราะแผนกพฒันากําลังคดิน็อตชนดิพิเศษนั้นอยูจริงแตคาดวาเปนปจะเสร็จ ระหวางนี้ควรทาสีน็อตไปกอน

• เร่ืองนี้สอนใหรูวา ความคิดท่ีดี แตยงัไมถูกนํามาปฏบิัติมีคานอยวาความเล็กๆท่ีถูกนาํมาปฏิบัติแลว ดงันั้นหัวใจของการทําไคเซ็น คือทําได ทําทันที และเทคนิคของการฝกการทําไคเซ็น คือ หัดทําไคเซ็นบอยๆ

ขั้นตอนการทําไคเซ็นตามแบบ PDCA


1. คัดเลือกปญหาที่จะทํา โดยใชขอมูล มาเปนการกําหนดปญหาที่จะทํากอนหลัง

2. ทําความเขาใจปญหาใหถองแท โดยเนน การเขาไปดูสถานที่จริง

3. จัดทําแผนการที่จะแกไขปญหา เตรียมพรอมเร่ืองคน อุปกรณ ความรู

4. วิเคราะหปญหาวาสิ่งที่เกิดขึ้นเกิดไดอยางไร มีปรากฏการณอยางไร

5. นําเอาวิธีการท่ีไดจากการวิเคราะหลองนําไปแกไขตามแผนที่ไดวางเอาไว DO

6. Check นําเอาผลที่ไดมาวิเคราะหวาไดผล หรือมีปญหาอยางไร

7. Action หรือการจัดทํามาตรฐาน เพื่อนําไปปฏิบัติ เพื่อไมใหเกิดปญหาเดิมอีก

การทํา PDCA ไมจําเปนตองทําใหครบ 7 ขัน้ตอนกอน ถึงไปเริ่มขั้นท่ี 1 ใหม เวลามีปญหาติดขดัสามารถยอนไปทําในขัน้ตน ๆไดเสมอถี่เทาท่ีตองการ

• ตัวอยางการทํา Kaizen ของ TOYOTA เชน การปรับปรุงการขันน็อตลอรถยนต โดยการทําใหมีสีติดตรงเครื่องมือขันน็อต หากพนักงานขันน็อตแนนพอ จะทําใหสีน้ันติดท่ีหัวน็อต เปนการยืนยันวาขันน็อต ใหลอแนนแลว

• สวนกรณี ของภาคราชการไทยที่นํา Kaizen มาใช เชน การทํา Passport ของกรมการกงสุล กระทรวงการตางประเทศ มีการเชื่ อมโยงฐานขอมูลกับกรมการปกครอง ทําใหผู ทํา Passport ไมตองกรอกขอมูลมาก และจะอยูในระบบการทํา Passport ตลอดทุกขั้นตอนไมเกิน 20 นาที

Seven types of waste identified at Toyota


1. Overproduction, which JIT takes care of2. Waiting, which means that value isn't being added3. Transporting, moving something doesn't add value4. Over processing, or doing something that the

customer doesn't value5. Inventory, which is expensive waste that can hide

defects6. Unnecessary motion, wherein workers travel within

their work areas farther than is really necessary7. Defects, which are essentially, well waste

กิจกรรมภายใตแนวคิดนี้ มีท้ัง Kaizen ระดับบุคคล และระดับกลุมระดับบุคคล คือการจัด Idea Contest เพื่อใหพนักงานนําเสนอ ความคิดใหม ๆ ใน

การปรับปรุงการทํางาน มีการเสนอความคิดกันมากกวา 1 พันความคิดตอเดือน และมีรางวัลใหความคิดดีเดน แลวจะมีการเผยแพรความคิดนั้นไปใชในสวนตาง ๆ ขององคกร ในโรงงาน ก็มีแผนกระดาษเล็กๆของผูปฏิบัติงานแตละคน ติดอยูท่ีบอรดใกลพื้นที่ปฏิบัติงาน และเขียนวา “ขอเสนอแนะ” คิดวาวิธีการนี้ นาสนใจ เพราะคนเรามักจะเกิดความคิดในการปรับปรุงงาน หรือเกิดอาการ “ปงแวบ” ในขณะที่กําลังทํางานอยู แลวก็สามารถบันทึกไวไดทันที

ระดับกลุม เปนกลุม QC ประมาณกลุมละ 10 คน มีนําเสนอในเวทีคุณภาพ ระดับตางๆ เพื่อคัดเลือกไปสูเวทีระดับใหญขึ้นไปเร่ือยๆ (เหมือน Otop ของเรา!)

Being able to tell the difference between NVA and VA activities is an important step in the Improvement Process.

Value Added Activity (VA)

An activity that changes raw material to meet customer expectations.

Non Value Added Activity (NVA)

Those activities that take time, or occupy space but do not add to the value of the product.

You must ask yourselves “Would you as a customer be willing to pay for any NVA activity being performed to that NEW 4x4 Pickup you just ordered?”
