    Client Control Panel MCS Transport

Harris supplies the interconnect cable which runs from the clients transport panel toCom Port 1. This is a 9-pin male to female cable approximately 6 feet (2 meters)long and is wired pin-to-pin.

    Media Client Control Panel MCS-Clip24

Harris supplies the interconnect cable which runs from the MCS-Clip24 configuarableLCD button panel to Com Port 1. This is a 9-pin male to female cable approximately6 feet (2 meters) long and is wired pin-to-pin.

    File Server Interconnection

If you have purchased two File Servers with co-standby File Server backup, Harrissupplies the interconnect cable between File Servers which enables automaticmirroring.

    RS-232 to RS-422 Converters

Harris supplies RS-232 to RS-422 adapters for certain devices that support only RS-

    232 serial protocol.

    Miscellaneous Items

    Devices

Prepare all devices such as VTRs, videodisks, switchers and cart machines forautomation installation using user notes supplied by Harris.

    Important:

Confirm device model/version and obtain correct manufacturer's software andfirmware on disk/proms as needed.

Ensure that any internal DIP switches are set for the correct communicationparameters (Baud rate, parity, etc).

    Printer(s)

Harris does not supply any printers with your system. You may, however, purchase aprinter and connect it to the File Server or Media Client workstations parallel port.Optionally, you may choose to provide a print server available on the network toconnect to the printer. A standard Windows driver for any installed printer(s) shouldbe available for installation on Harris computers as needed.

    Supported Peripheral ControlDevices

    Operator Control Panel (OCP)

The Operator Control Pane is a mid-sized desktop controller that provides instantaudio or video playback and control for broadcast automation, post production andother applications. This panel gives operators a choice in controlling automationenvironments by providing unambiguous button control in addition to conventionalkeyboard and mouse operations.

    Panel Functions

The OCP comes with 24, hi-res, remotely-relegendable 64 x 32 LCD buttons, 10bank buttons, and 17 additional function and navigation switches.

The hi-res LCD buttons can display text (up to 40 characters) and graphics using builtin command driven serial interfaces. They integrate a graphical LCD with RGBbacklighting, and are capable of displaying up to 64 colors. Software controls theinterface, display and backlighting. Data only needs to be transmitted when a changeis made to the display or background colors.

These LCD buttons can be programmed to provide a range of functions. Mostcommonly used when breakdowns or other failures occur, each button on the OCP

can call up actions needed in a hurry. For example, a button can be configured to:

Cut back to Network, or even backup device with a ready content.

Display a full-screen apology slide or trigger a caption for missing audio.

    Rackmounting

    The Device Controller Package

Device Controller(s) are rack mountable devices and ship with rack rails. Transferswitches, relay panels, GPI breakouts, network hub(s) and keyboard/video/mouse(KVM) switch are supplied with rack mount ears for easy installation.

    Mounting Hints

17 monitors come standard with the Harris system. If you require smaller or

larger monitors, this must be specified at the time of the order. Mount the 8-port relay panels and GPI breakouts in the back of the rack. The

relay panels are connected to the transfer switch or to the cloning panel if cloninghas been ordered as an option.

Your Device Controller comes with a rack size keyboard, ideal for storage in akeyboard drawer. However, both the keyboard drawer and rack mount kits formonitors and client PCs must be purchased separately if needed.

Appropriate power cords are provided for all equipment. If any, or all, of thepower cords supplied with the system are incorrect, contact Harris Automation forassistance.

While most, if not all, equipment is equipped with auto sensing power supplies, itis essential that care be taken to ensure that any line voltage settings present areproperly set prior to applying power to any equipment.

    Rackmounting Sequence

Install your Device Controller(s), transfer switch, keyboard/video/mouse switch,Application/File Server(s) and network hub in the same rack, or in adjacent racks. This rack should also contain an uninterruptible power supply (UPS) for your DeviceController(s).

We recommend installing the equipment in a least used to most used

configuration from the top of the rack to the bottom, with user controls convenientlyplaced. If this configuration is followed, system components are installed from thetop to the bottom of the rack in this order:

Application/File Server (Installation and setup of this sever are addressed underseparate documentation.)

    Network hub(s)

    Monitor
