59newlyelectedMLAsinJharkhand(i.e73%)havependingcriminalcasesagainstthemaccordingto

theirselfswornaffidavits

Out of these 59 MLAs, 26, i.e. 32% have pending criminal cases of serious nature, like Murder,

AttempttoMurder,Kidnapping,Theftetc.

14 related to attempt to murder, 4 cases related to murder, 14 cases related to theft, etc. among

pendingseriouscasesagainstthenewlyelectedMLAs

Ranchi, December 26, 2009: Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) and National Election Watch

(NEW),anationwidecampaigncomprisingofmorethan1200NGOsandothercitizenledorganizations,

hasbeenworkingonelectoralreforms,improvingdemocracyandgovernanceinIndia.

NationalElectionWatchconductedelectionwatchesduringJharkhandAssemblyElection2009.Thepre

election reports were shared with the media. The reports included looking at the affidavits and

disseminatinginformationbasedoncriminal,financialandotherbackgroundinformation.

Now the election results are announced for the Jharkhand assembly election 2009, National Election

Watchanditspartnerhaveanalyzedtheaffidavitsofalltheelectedrepresentativesandhavecomeout

withthisinformation.

The total no of contestants were 1491 for 81 seats of Jharkhand assembly election 2009. NEW has

analyzed1018affidavitsofcandidatescontestingforJharkhandAssemblyelection2009.

MLAswithCriminalbackground:Outof329candidateswithpendingcriminalcaseswhocontested in

theseelections,atotalof59won.NewlyelectedMLAshavedeclaredthattheyhavependingcriminal

cases of such heinous crimes as murder, attempt to murder, kidnapping or abducting in order to

murder,theft,illegalpaymentsinconnectionwithelectionetc.Thereare4casesrelatedtomurder,14

cases of attempt to murder, 14 cases of theft and several others pending against the newly elected

MLAsofJharkhandassembly.Partywisebreakupisgivenbelow:
