    MENTER CAERDYDDANNUAL REPORT 2012

    MissiONsTATEMENT

To promote and extend the use of

Welsh on a community level in the

Capital City, ensuring that the language

becomes a central part of life inCardiff and that each citizen shares

the responsibility for its future and

    prosperity.

    iNTRODUCTiON

The past year has been another successful one for Menter

Caerdydd as we continued to develop our services across

the city. Funding was received from numerous departments

in Cardiff Council including Play Services, CommunityEducation Department and Corporate Support Department.

A new Service Level Agreement was also agreed upon to

develop training services for people over 16 years old. Over

220,000 of additional funding was also received from the

Welsh Government, National Lottery, Welsh Arts Council,

Clybiau Plant Cymru Kids Clubs, Welsh Language Board and Cymorth. Menter has a team of 8 staff 5

full time and 3 part time and we employ 96 occasional staff.

TAFWYLOur 7th annual Tafwyl festival took place on

June 2012 and was our most successful to date.

By working in partnership with Cardiff Council,

Welsh Arts Council and the Welsh Government,

we attracted 8,500 festival goers to the event

at Cardiff Castle, and a further 1,500 to the

other activities during the festival week. Menter

    Caerdydd succeeded in working effectively

with numerous partners across the city and

nationally, 56 in total, to provide a memorableand successful week. For the rst time Tafwyl

2012 was part of Cardiff Councils Summer

Events calendar. The event was also attended

by the Minister for Education and Skills,

Leighton Andrews and Councillor Huw Thomas,

cabinet member for sports, leisure and culture.

97.9% of the adults who attended Tafwyl 2012

had enjoyed the experience, 58% stated that

attending Tafwyl had made them more proud

of the Welsh language and 13.8% felt morecondent in using Welsh in Cardiff. These gures

prove that the long term impact of the Tafwyl

festival is positive and benecial towards the

Welsh language in the capital city.
