THE WAY AORERE IMPORTANT DATES AORERE COLLEGE NEWSLETTER 2019 TE AHUREA TINO RANGATIRATANGA HOSTED BY AORERE COLLEGE PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE It is hard to believe that NCEA examinations start this Friday, i.e. 8 th of November. The internal assessment week at the end of Term 3 and the mock examination week in week 1 of Term 4 have gone very well. By differentiating between these 2 core components of NCEA, I think that students have prioritized appropriately and taken both weeks very seriously. Compared to at the same stage last year, student achievement levels are impressive. At NCEA Level 1, Year 11 students are achieving on average 6 credits higher than in any of the preceding 3 years (58.1 credits). At NCEA Level 2, students also are achieving higher than in any of the 3 preceding years (51.3 credits). NCEA Level 3 the average number of credits per student falls to (38 credits) but then equals the highest average rate over the last 4 years. We continue to target students who have between 70 and 85% attendance and who are successful in completing 70% or more of the credits offered NCEA level, while whole school targets are a 70% pass rate at each will be year level which will be difficult. My visit to 3 quite different secondary schools in New York in the first week of October, was very interesting and one can always learn from others when continually searching for whole school improvement strategies. In week 2 of Term 4, the Senior school sports’ awards and the ‘Virtus awards’ ceremonies were held in the school hall. The consistent levels of achievement evident in both of these events, reinforced the values of the AO Way and reflected the college’s motto, ‘Virtus Caelum Recludit’. The Senior school ‘Prize-giving’ ceremony on November 7th will reflect the significant improvements in academic achievement that are occurring at Aorere College. On the 19 th of October, Aorere College successfully hosted the Te Ahurea Kapahaka festival. This involved over 15 different secondary schools and over a thousand spectators throughout the day. The Board has decided to accept the $150 donation payment per student for the 2020 school year, which will definitely be financially beneficial for the school. Therefore you will not be required to pay a school donation in 2020. I very much look forward to seeing you at the upcoming Senior School Prize- giving on Thursday, 7 th November at 10:30am.
