    Accessible to students, the book covers material appropriate to this themeand to The External World in PHIL2.

    Epistemology: a contemporary introduction to the theory of knowledge byRobert Audi, published by Routledge (1998)

    Not aimed at AS Level students but teachers may find sections of the bookuseful.

    Why should I be governed?

    An Introduction to Political Philosophy by Jonathan Wolff, published byOxford University Press (1996)

    Should challenge more able students, the first two chapters are particularly

    appropriate to this theme.

    A collection of readings from primary sources, the first two chapters areparticularly appropriate to this theme.

    Why should I be moral?

    Morality: An Introduction to Ethics by Bernard Williams, published byCambridge University Press (1972)

    Accessible: the first chapter, the amoralist, provides a useful basis fordiscussion.

    Human Conduct: An Introduction to the Problems of Ethics by John Hospers,published by Rupert Hart-Davis (1970)

    Accessible: includes an essay why be moral? covering material relevant tothis theme.

    Moral Philosophy: a guide to ethical theory by Cardinal, Jones and Hayward,published by Hodder Murray (2006)

    Accessible, covers a range of ethical theories relevant to this theme.

    The Moral Philosophers: An Introduction to Ethics by Richard Norman,published by Oxford University Press (1983)

    Not aimed at AS Level students but teachers may find sections of this verygood book rewarding.

    The Idea of God

    Philosophy of Religion by Jones, Cardinal and Hayward, published byHodder Murray (2005).

    Accessible, includes material appropriate to this theme and to God and the

    World in PHIL2.

    An Introduction to the Philosophy of Religion by B Davies, published byOxford University Press (2003)

    This is an accessible and widely used introduction to the philosophy ofreligion. Appropriate to themes in both PHIL1 and PHIL2.

    Not really appropriate for students but teachers may find it useful.
