Welcome to our guide for Pokmon X and Pokmon Y! This guide should and willcover everything pertinent to a complete walkthrough for either version of thegame, including all relevant information about the overworld compiled inchronological order, item lists, Pokmon locations, and other useful tidbits ofinformation. You can get a general idea of what is in this guide by simplylooking at the Table of Contents (TOC) on top. That TOC will also allow you tojump to said section with nifty little shortcuts. Anyway, both of us are veryproud of this guide, and we hope that you will use this resource to itsfullest--if there is anything that we can improve, please let us know! We lovehearing feedback! Without further ado, let's get on with the (Pokmon) show!_______________________________________________________________________________!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 1.2 A b o u t T h e G u i d e [vs1002]_______________________________________________________________________________!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Our Pokmon X/Y guide is essentially a place to go for anything and everything/specifically/ about Pokmon X and Y. This means that we only put in what'srelevant to your experience in this game. By extension, this should makeeverything easy to find, which can be a major detriment to other informationsources (like Serebii) that try to tell you everything about everything. Anyway, this guide can basically be divided into three major sections: how-to-play (team building, controls, and so on), the walkthrough (beginning-to-endwith no spoilers whatsoever), and the supplementary info (move lists, Pokmonlocations, and so on). Each major section serves its own use and is henceformatted in its own way. In this guide, we've tried to make everything as easy on the eyes as possible. Some may view plain text as unappealing--we see it as a strength toartistically and functionally present information in a manner that allows usmore control over how you view the information. Hopefully you see this as well.Anyway, much of the information in this guide is presented from our ownexperiences, though some of it may be derived from other sources and presentedmore clearly. This guide is also assembled with the help of a variety of people, mostimportantly those who directly contribute to us via email, FaceBook, PM, orwhatever other method you can think of. Regardless, we find guide-writing to bemore of a collaboration between author and audience, so be sure to get in touchwith one or both of us if you think we can improve this guide. Some various guide-wide indiosyncrasies you may see are SL's affinity forPok- balls, vin's affinity for hating Pokballs, and our constant banteringusing these little carrots (!): Yo, vin, we're doing these, right? This guide is being assembled in plain text formatting (.txt) with variousword processors such as NotePad and MetaPad._______________________________________________________________________________!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 1.3 A b o u t T h e A u t h o r s [vs1003]_______________________________________________________________________________!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!This is our 15 minutes of fame in this guide, so please excuse our short self-promotion/feeling-sappy sequence! \ vinheim \ Hey guys how's it going? vin here bringing you a In-depth walkthrough for thehighly anticipated Pokmon game for the 3DS, Pokmon X & Y. This game brings ina ton of new features that you'll be enjoying throughout the game. Officially,I've been writing since 2004, but only started posting my guides until 2006,reason why is that I was still unexperienced with computers and ended up losingall my info because of virus problems. The guides that I lost go from 2 Golden Sun guides, 1 for Dragon Quest 8 forthe PS2 and a part of Tales of Symphonia. I write for a wide array of games, going from shooters to RPGs, whichever game I like, I just write for it. I gotinto co-writing with Bkstunt, who is an awesome writer and a wonderful person.I now get a chance to write with another awesome guy, and that's superluigi. We've talked a lot lately and this guide got us even closer :). So yeah, tag along as we bring you hopefully the best guide you can find forthe game, which is a blast to write and we have fun in the process. Cheers :)CHEAT SITES; INCORPORATED WITH GUIDESAs for cheat sites in general, there's not much more to be found besides just cheats. There's one major exception to the rule, being Supercheats. The guideswritten here by prolific authors have a few nice additions, including video (andsometimes screenshot) support. Not all guides are of the same quality, butthere's a solution for this problem we'll soon land at.VIDEO TALKTHROUGHS; TOO FEW BENEFITS OVER TEXTVideo talkthroughs have a few benefits, the biggest being that the author no longer needs to write everything down into words when creating the talkthrough. This doesn't benefit the user looking for help, and they are only helped in very specific contexts by this format, which lends itself perfectly for "findinghidden objects", and I dare say it lends itself for this purpose only. It worksgreat if you see someone walk straight to an item you were looking for and thatyou struggled to find when reading through text. As such, videos are a greataddition to text, but not as a replacement. Why not? For one, videos don't havea proper search function, and can never describe handy statistics, such as acomplete item/equipment list as featured in most role playing games (but verythinkable in adventure games as well, where this can take the form of a tablethat compares gunfire power for example). The viewer also needs to deduct strategies from the video and comments of the author alone. This can work for astraight A-to-B walkthrough or for beating a boss, but it's a pain when theauthor decides against exploring optional parts when you wanted to do just that- or vice versa. An other disadvantage is that videos contain spoilers. Youmight be able to click away the video right before spoilers come up, especiallyif the author warns you in advance, but you can imagine this is a stressfulsituation. A last drawback of videos is that they're time consuming to watch,so it's almost like you're playing the game twice; once by someone else playingit for you. Videos can still be, it has to be said, an excellent addition to text when they visually show something text has difficulties with to describe, but they have little value beyond this feature.FAQS: DO THESE TEXT DOCUMENTS REALLY HOLD THE FUTURE?If someone would ask me if there is still a need for text-based documents (FAQs)in a few years, I'd wholeheartedly tell them yes, but I'd also tell them thatthings are in need of a little tweaking. FAQs suffer from less problems thanother formats because they're well organized, rapidly downloadable, quicklysearchable by using [tags] and Ctrl + F, they're printable, easy to save onto your hard disk, and they have all information stored in one place. There's onlyone 'problem'; the big differences in quality between FAQs. Some guides remainunfinished, some are finished but have a very poor layout, and only a handfulcan be considered pure quality. Now I know (of course I do), these authors allwrite in their spare time and we should all be thankful for whatever theycontribute - no arguing there. What would you expect from free guides? But ifit's easy to make things better, why not give it a try?On a side note, I wouldn't think the solution lies in the new html guides thatGameFAQs now features. It theoretically allows for a few decent features, especially if authors would choose to include screenshots that enrich theirwritten text (but a danger lies in abundance). Better yet would be placingvideos at parts where text lacks in its descriptive function as argued for inthe previous paragraphs. Having a few videos to show difficult item locationswould be great. Besides these benefits, the format is no longer easy to print(not a disaster), it is arguably not as easy to search through compared to acompact text document, it is a pain to save onto an external space such as ahard disk or USB stick, and for some reason they're not as easy to organize astext. Besides this, it takes more time for both writers and administrator(s) tocreate this format. If anything, this format reminds mostly of the unsuccessfulsuperguides at mycheats, the difference being that everyone can contribute tothose.TEXT ENHANCED WITH PICTURES?Random screenshots as used in the semi-free guides on IGN and Gamespot don't addmuch value for the reader, and the only purpose they serve is as eye candy.Picture support, as one could call it, derives its purpose from *supporting*the reader in getting something done in the game. One of the main purposes tosupport a reader is to tell them where they need to go, or to show where aplayer is headed towards. As a rule, screenshots don't lend themselves wellfor this purpose. They're too static and can only show a limited frame ofinformation currently going on in the game. Maps on the other hand are muchmore abstract, and can show readers a wide variety of (item) locations, as wellas giving a general overview. This is the biggest drawback of text documents, and although text maps can be functional, picture maps are easier to use.Fortunately, it's very easy to upload a picture map to GameFAQs and integrateit in a text guide as a link. The main point here is that pictures generallydistract from the actual guide material. Eye candy is nice, but you'll getenough of eye candy while playing your games. GUIDE WRITERS UNITE!The solution is already partly being executed by some authors who co-author witheach other, but it'd be interesting and easy enough to take this to the nextlevel. You'll unlikely have found yourself staring at a few different FAQs,wondering which one to pick. Perhaps you randomly chose one, perhaps one of anauthor who sounded familiar, or perhaps you looked for recent updates and thesize of the document, or maybe you clicked on all of them and made yourdecision after briefly browsing each. In any case, several authors all decidedto make their own version of a FAQ. Some of them don't cover much more besidesthe walkthrough, others write complete guides, and still others make an attemptat fully uncovering every aspect of the game. While there's something to sayfor writing everything all by yourself - you get your own credits and you *can*have fun while writing - it is worth asking the question whether or not you'reactually contributing something that hasn't already been done before; do guidesexist with better informative text that are faster available than yours, arebetter searchable, more concisely and clearly written, perhaps more beautifullylaid out? Because if they do, realize that the only good reasons to continuewriting for such a game are either because you want to practice your writingskills (a completely legitimate reason), or because you think you can do betterthan the best existing guide available (legitimate, but sometimes difficult toattain). A final, alternative point of view could be to take "a differentapproach", which always comes down to either using more or using less humor, ordescribing more or less spoilers, simply because "other approaches" don't exist:The video game you're writing about demands a certain structured approach withlittle variation possible. Do realize that even with a "different approach", themost important goal is still to write just as qualitatively as the bestavailable stuff already launched elsewhere. Also keep in mind that the author(s)of the most qualitative guide might've chosen to use a fair share of humor andkeep spoilers to a minimum (arguably a favorable combination for the majority ofreaders). Even when there's no information available at all on a certain game, which is common when games have just been released, it can still be importantto keep the highest possible quality in mind, simply because someone else mightoutdo your guide soon. While I realize that some of the above might sound radical in the ears ofcertain writers, I think it also sounds very logical. If you compare the amountof visits of a high-quality guide to a merely decent guide you'd notice adrastic difference between figures. The star system already differentiates - andrightfully so - between guides to make qualitative ones stand out. This is oneof the best features GameFAQs has implemented in a long time, and it would begreat to see it continue down that road to underline and stress the importanceof high quality work. I wouldn't want to argue that guides should no longer beposted if they are of less quality than others (although it would be good tohave an unwritten rule that unfinished walkthroughs do not get posted if astarred guide already exists for that game), as it also encourages writers tostart in 'the business'. The point here is that everyone would greatly benefitif authors started to work together in an efficient manner.ENDLESS AND OPTIMISTIC, YET NOT IMPOSSIBLE GUIDE WRITING IDEALISMWouldn't it be great to have one (perhaps two) excellent - no, nearly perfect -guide(s) for whatever game you desire? Or at least for the most popular titles? The problem with raising the bar this high is that it starts to take very largeamounts of time to write such a guide, and few authors are in the favorableposition of having endless amounts of spare time (or are willing to devote somuch of their spare time to the writing of FAQs). Another problem with strivingfor extraordinary quality is that the community at least partly consists ofyounger writers who are still working on improving their guide writing skills. If authors would form teams that work together on certain guides, they'd notonly be sure that people would love their cooperative work, it would also savethe authors a lot of time and they'd still have made a beautiful piece of workin the end. This is the approach that the better official game guide companiestake. They work in teams, and it shows. Have people focus on a certain aspect ofthe guide and beautifully shape the guide together, literally. In FAQ writing, this could easily be put to practice. Someone could work on the walkthrough, perhaps coordinating sections with someone else if their writing styles match(which is no necessity by any means). Another author could provide ASCIIartwork, still someone else could help work on side quests and parts thatrequire optional exploration, someone could be working on assembling item andequipment lists. Such a team of four to five people can easily be credited atthe top of the document, revealing their (alias) names in all pride and glory.WHAT IS THE ULTIMATE GOAL OF GUIDE WRITING?The same idea could be applied to all online guide writing, and it would greatlyimprove the overall quality of what's available. Ultimately it would findsponsoring and receive some donations from the community, but even without thisit can make a great leap towards reaching the ultimate goal of guide writing:To not only help someone from A to B, but to really *enhance* someone'sexperience of a game in every possible way, giving people the option to fullyexplore and enjoy a videogame. You can watch linear movies, you can read linearbooks, but you must actively explore a video game, and in some cases, only ahigh-quality strategy guide is going to help you do just that. It would beunfair to demand from gamers to purchase such a strategy guide for every gamethey buy. Ideally, the future of video game guides would have prolific authorsovercome their ego and team up to shape perfect text-based strategy guides.Readers could in turn show a little more praise when truly deserved... Now whatare some ways to improve and promote quality?INTRODUCE A FAQ OF THE YEAR CONTEST; OMG, GOLD STARS!?A few great ways that could help promote authors to work together in order toreach higher levels of quality (and faster, too) would be to not only hold aFAQ of the Month contest, but also a FAQ of the Year contest (or alternativelya FAQ of the Season, but that sounds kind of lame). There are too few monthlycontributions to really judge quality alone (game popularity and thus guide demand also plays its role), but a yearly competition on top of the FotM contestcould really push author(teams) to the limit. Although it'd be nice, it doesn'teven need to involve prize money - I bet many guide writers would commit murderto have a gold star featured next to their own or team's name for that matter.A GUIDE WRITER CONTEST INSTEAD OF THESE REPETITIVE CHARACTER AND GAME CONTESTS?It could also greatly help to put authors a little more in the spotlights. Asimple poll could do wonders alone, not to imagine a "favorite author" contest, putting the building bricks of GameFAQs in the spotlight for once - the authorsof FAQs themselves - instead of the repetitive character contests that are nowbeing held yearly. A trial would be nice at the very least; contributors reallylike these contests, as the writer's board has shown repeatedly year after yearfor over a decade now. It'd also motivate aspiring writers to give it a shot oftheir own - there's nothing to lose.On a different but related note, an other possible way to easily motivatequalitative work under authors would be by showing the amount of stars - whichimplies recommendations or FotM prizes - on the author's forum account, similarto how Karma is displayed.GIVE SOME, GET SOMEThe idea is that when the quality of text guides jumps, the time is ripe for thecontributor recognition to rise as well, and quite frankly, it's been wayoverdue for a long time. The only thing that currently fuels guide writers arethank-you emails (or the general idea of helping people). With little extraeffort, the shrinking community of veteran guide writers can get a new impulseand new goals.JOIN OR START A DISCUSSION ON GAMEFAQS OR FACEBOOKWe've got a long way to go, but it should be possible to push guide writing astep in the right direction, starting here. Things like this don't take offwithout discussions, so spread the word and let GameFAQs know about this. You can also join the discussion on my facebook page, located atNot much has changed since the last installments of GTA. You can still travelin a myriad of ways: car, truck, bike, boat, plane, motorcycle, taxi, train, and helicopter, to name a few. New to the GTA series is that each character has a persistent vehicle. Trevor has his red truck, Franklin has a fast car and a motorcycle, and Michael has the family-of-four sedan. These vehicles actually spawn close to the character - whether at the start of the mission, or while switching characters, or at their safehouse. This means that you don't constantly have to hijack cars to get around anymore!Hijacking cars is still an important aspect of the game, though. Aside from the sheer joy of evading the police after a hijack, there are a lot of faster, stronger, and basically better cars in the game than the three characters' vehicles. For example, I constantly advise you to jack the sportscars that drive around Michael's house because they are extremely fast.\/ WANTED LEVELS/\This mechanic functions the exact same way as other GTA games. You do the crime, you get the wanted stars! Typical crimes include stealing a car while the police can see you, bashing into a policeman's car, killing people, and killing cops. You get wanted stars based on just how bad the crime was (in the eyes of the police). One Star Wanted Level: you killed someone or bashed into a policeman's car. The police are cruising for you, but not quite actively pursuing you unless they spot you. If you continue to evade them while being tailed, you will earn a two star level automatically. Two Star Wanted Level: you murdured an innocent in front of the police, continually evaded the police from one star, or wandered into restricted areas. The police actively search for you at this level.Three Star Wanted Level: in a nutshell, you basically killed a cop. The police are much vigilant in their search now and helicopters become more common.Four Star Wanted Level: you continued to kill police and cause general mayhem. You now have FIB agents actively pursuing you.Five Star Wanted Level: you continued your cop kill spree and did not have any trouble taking down the FIB agents. Now you have basically the whole city after you now. One, two, and three star wanted levels are pretty easier to shake off; just cruise around out of sight and eventually you'll lose the heat. Four and fivestar require quite a lot more effort, usually leaving the county and hiding somewhere far away.As I describe in the strategy guide, the typical way to lose the police workslike this: (a) you speed away from the police and get out of sight, (b) youcruise around while evading the police's line of sight, and (c) you wait it out. The game makes it very easy to evade the police once you've lost line ofsight because the cops show up on the map as red dots with their LoS denoted by a light blue triangle.\/ HEALTH AND ARMOR/\The same as previous GTA games, you have a health and armor bar that depleteswhen you take damage. Armor can be bought at an Ammu-Nation or picked up fromvarious locations. If your health depletes below 50%, it will automatically regenerate back to 50% if you aren't damaged for a little while. This is kinda god-like, because you can merely stay in cover and wait for it to regenerate.\/ WEAPONS/\You have an arsenal of weapons at your disposal: pistols, shotguns, assault rifles, submachine guns, sniper rifles, grenades, and explosive weapons. You can buy these at Ammu-Nation or pick them up off of enemies. New weapons become available as you progress in the game; Ammu-Nation loves you to email you when they get a new weapon in stock. The very best thing you can do to improve your combat capabilities is by upgrading your weapons. You can do this at Ammu-Nation, and typical upgrades are scopes, grips, extended clips, and suppressors. These upgrades help out immensely in the game, and toward the end you'll definitely want them fully upgraded so you can easily take down heavily armored foes. The cheapest, most overpowered trick in the game is blowing up vehicles before enemies exit them. Enemies are MUCH more tough to face when they've exited a vehicle, but you can blow them all up with just one shot from the rocket launcher, one well-lobbed grenade, or one sticky bomb detonation. I usually tell you in the walkthrough when it is ideal to blow up vehicles, butthat should pretty much always be your first strategy. ________ ________ ________ ________| | ///////// | | |||||||| | | \\\\\\\\\ | | 3. This first mission functions as a prologue to frame the story and also acts as a tutorial; as such, it is extremely easy and basically holds your hand all the way through. You are often directed to do basic tasks like get in cover or fire a gun - these are the types of things that you'll be doing throughout the game, so get used to things like the cover mechanic and the aiming system. To begin, walk into the next room with the hostages. While one of your friends sets up the explosives, your job is simply to aim at the hostages to herd them into the storage room. Press the aim button to "lock on" to a target and move the right stick to switch between targets. The hostages, as it were, are happy to oblige and frantically cower into the room. Now that you're set with the explosives, you need to "call it in." :) Press Up on the d-pad and X/A to view the contact list. Select "detonate" to blow up the vault. With the vault now open, it's time to raid it. Head through the double doors in front of you and make down the hall to the vault. Go inside and pick up all the cash on the ground, then walk over to the corner of the room and grab the non-sequential cash on the tray (GTA teaches us the darnest things...)\/ MAKE YOUR GETAWAY/\Exit the vault and a security cop tries to play hero. For this, you need to switch to another character since you are currently controlling the character being held by gunpoint. To do this, press Down and switch with the right stick to the other character. From there, aim at the guard's head and pull the trigger to kill him and end the threat. He has a big forehead that makes it pretty easy to headshot him.Run with your crew down the hall and press the appropriate button to take cover behind the crate. When the door blows open, run inside and you'll automatically open the next door. This leads outside to a whole lotta angry cops. This is your first firefight with the police. The general strategy is to take cover and pick them off as they pop out of cover behind their police cars. With this in mind, take cover behind the pillar to the left and pop out of cover when you see cops open to kill. There are several cops here, but they have notoriously bad aim, especially if you are properly in cover. You can additionally hit the cops through the car windows if they stay in cover too long or go back into cover while you are firing at them.If you take too long, the cops will start to swarm to the sides of you, but you should be able to gun them down even if they have a clear shot at you. After you take out the initial wave, you a prompted to "move up" and it's definitely a good idea. Run over to the cop car that is farthest away and take cover behind it.You are prompted to run and gun it, but it's safest to pick off at least one of the cops from the safe cover of the car. When they're defeated, move up with your crew and take cover behind the next car. Again, the game prompts you to perhaps switch characters right now, but if you've been keeping up, you shouldn't need to do this. From the cover of the car, take out the policemen who arrive from further down the street.Move up to the next cop car and repeat the process. After that, you are finally given the OK to go to the getaway car. Note that if you tried to run to it while you were supposed to be killing cops, nothing will happen because your friends (which you can control) are still hung up. It's also MUCH slower to walk in the snow, so run on the road to the getaway car and press Y/Triangle to get inside.\/ GET TO DA CHOPPA!/\After the scene, you are finally in control of the car. As you can clearly see by the yellow line on your map, you must drive straight for a while and then take a right turn to the chopper area. STAY ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE ROAD and ignore the policemen that whiz by; incidentally, they do not know that this is the car they're after, so they'll just go on by without a clue.At the road block, brake a little and turn right. Accelerate to the train tracks and watch the dramatic scene that ensues. After the scene, you only have control of one of the characters; from the safety of the cover, take out all of the policemen Rambo-style. You can basically just alternate between the cover button and the fire button and you'll take them out quickly. Just remember to stay in cover when you're reloading.I don't know whether you have to kill a certain number of cops or just wait a certain period of time, but after around fifteen seconds you'll complete this starting mission and the prologue. They ask where a house is; Michael initially declines, but then tells them. The twosome makes their way to the alleyway and you're left controlling Franklin for the first time.\/ CHOOSE ONE OF THE CARS/\Head down the path to Franklin and you're prompted to choose a car. I don't think it really matters which one you choose, because Lamar chooses the other and they are pretty much the same aside from color. I personally chose the red one, but only because it was closer. ;) However, you might consider choosing the white one because then Lamar's car will be more visible.\/ BABY'S FIRST JOYRIDE!/\After a little scene in which you are introduced to car hood mechanics, Lamar zooms off and tells you to chase after him. Accelerate out of the small driveway and turn left on the correct side of the road. You can target Lamar's car by pressing B/Circle, and then you are given the option to chase him free of the zoom.Follow Lamar as he makes a sharp right turn. You are then told how to do special abilities, and for Franklin, it's a car ability, but we don't need to do it right now. Continue following Lamar through the city - there are not many cars on the road right now, and the cars at intersections gladly stop for you.Soon you'll reach a studio. Follow Lamar as he rams through the gate and speeds through the studio. You might hit a few people working on a movie, but it's no big deal. Out of the studio, follow Lamar as he weaves through the city. When prompted, follow him through the alley and then get some air on the bumps in the road.Lamar actually gives you directions, which helps a little so you know when to turn. However, the path is very straightforward and he doesn't drive too fast. He'll start to drive on the wrong side of the road, but you shouldn't have any trouble following him because the cars pull over once they see him.Head into the parking garage and turn on your headlights as prompted. Go in and out of two more parking garages and you'll have a small cutscene which ends with the cops out to get you.\/ LOSE THE BLUES/\In vintage Grand Theft Auto style, you must lose a two-star wanted level. The police are conveniently denoted on the mini-map, and it also shows their field of vision on the map. You must simply stay out of their vision for long enough to lose your wanted stars.Just as the game prompts, it's easy to do this in an alley or some type of lot-structure. You can also just zoom away and dodge the police that are looking for you. Note that you cannot just outrun them as more policeman will come in a new area. Just stay out of line of sight long enough to lose them. When you've lost them, you must now take the car back to the dealership. This is really simple because the yellow line on the minimap shows you the shortest route to the dealership. Just follow the yellow brick road and you'll be there in no time. At the dealership, walk into the showcase room and watch the small cutscene.\/ GO TO FRANKLIN'S HOUSE/\Afterward, walk with Lamar back over to your car (your *real* car, not the one you stole) and drive to Franklin's house. Again, follow the yellow line and you'll be there in no time. At his house, park the car in his garage - the one with the blue garage door. The next cutscene introduces a lot of game mechanics: barbershops, television, saving, sleeping in your bed, and changing your wardrobe. After that, you'll get a mission passed sign and a look at how you did - if you won the race, "winner," if you didn't hit anyone, "we come in peace," and if you didn't destroy the car, "not a scratch."Leave the house and you'll get a call from Simeon. He has some work for you, and an "S" icon shows up on your map. However, for the first time, you can finally free roam a little, so you might want to do that since I know ya'll been itchin' for it. The Basics ________ ________ ________ ________| | \\\\\\\\\ | | |||||||| | | ///////// | | This section contains the "basics" for playing Grand Theft Auto V. It mostlypertains to veteran players who want to know "what's different this time." Inthis section, I outline the new special abilities, character skills, modes oftransportation, wanted levels, and weapons. As you might have guessed, all ofthese change on a game-by-game basis, and thus even experienced players mightlearn something from this section.\/ SPECIAL ABILITIES/\Probably the most surprising feature to GTA players are the special abilities, which are more like superpowers that can turn the tide of battle. Each of the three main characters has one distinct special ability that can be activated by pressing both movement stick buttons at the same time. You should probably note that this seems very Saints Row 4-ish, but these skills do not at all dominate the game like they do in SR4.Franklin's special ability slows time while driving a vehicle. This is probably the worst of the three special abilities, but it makes Franklin the designated driver for driving-heavy missions. You can increase this skill by doing typical GTA things: driving at the top speed of the vehicle, doing nearvehicle misses, and driving on the opposite side of the road.Michael's special ability also slows time, but instead of a car, it's in actual combat on foot. As you might have guessed, this makes firefights much easier; just slow time and auto-aim all the enemies to death. It can be increased with headshots and stealth kills.Trevor's ability severely minimizes the damage he takes while maximizing the damage he puts out. This is easily the best of the three special abilities because it basically makes you superhuman. You'll want to use this in firefights, especially the firefights in the desert with the bikers when you first control Trevor. You can increase this skill with headshots, taking damage, and damaging others.\/ CHARACTER SKILLS/\All three playable characters have a set of "skills" that can make them better at doing things in the game. The eight skills are Special, Stamina, Shooting, Strength, Stealth, Flying, Driving, and Lung Capacity.Special: raising this skill will also raise the amount of time you can be in a character's Special Ability. You can raise it by doing the aforementioned actions.Shooting: this skill determines reload speed, accuracy, and ammo capacity. As you might have guessed, this is probably the most important skill because it makes you more effective at general combat. You can increase this ability by doing the Shooting Range activity and landing headshots on enemies.Strength: this skill increases the overall amount of damage that you can take in a fight. As such, it is pretty important also! It also raises your general melee damage if you like the way of the closed fist.Stealth: this skill makes you harder to detect while in stealth and increases your movement speed while in stealth. In GTA, you can stealth a lot during missions, and some missions require that you stealth through them. This can be increased by simply walking around in stealth.Flying: as you might have guessed, this skill makes it easier for you to fly. It basically increases overall handling of planes. You can increase this skill by completing flight school or by simply flying anywhere.Driving: this skill makes it easier for you to drive. It basically increases your overall handling of vehicles. You can increase this quickly by completing all those stunt jumps.Lung Capacity: this skill determines how long you can hold your breath underwater. You can increase this by, well, swimming!\/ MODES OF TRANSPORTATION/\Not much has changed since the last installments of GTA. To continue the story, drive over to Simeon's icon. ________ ________ ________ ________| | ///////// | | |||||||| | | \\\\\\\\\ | | 3.03 - Repossession ________ ________ ________ ________| | \\\\\\\\\ | | |||||||| | | ///////// | | Quest Giver: Simeon Map Icon: S Playable Character: Franklin100% Completion Goals: o Time: Complete with 06:30 o Trail Blazer: Shoot the gasoline trail o Headshots: Kill 6 enemies with a headshot o Accuracy: Finish w/ a shoot accuracy of at least 70%After you are awarded Employee of the Month and discuss in typical GTA protagonist-style how you want to be the boss, you have some Repossessin' to do with Lamar. Head over to the white car in the back and get going! The way to Vespucci Beach is denoted by the yellow line on the mini-map. It's a fairly straightforward ride with no hiccups or bumps. When you get there, park the car at the yellow circle and exit the vehicle.Jump over the gate by pressing Square/X and follow Lamar as the two of you mosey on down the alley. Franklin comments that it's sketchy, but Lamar doesn't seem to care. When you get to the end, you need to check the garages for the bike. After checking all three, the Vagos show up to fight and Lamar shoots one of them down.\/ TAKE OUT THE VAGOS/\Grab the gun on the ground and take cover behind the wall in the garage. From the safe cover (and with Lamar in front of you), take down each of the Vagos. They like to randomly walk between covers, so get them while they are walking back and forth. When you've taken them down, move up with Lamar. Just as he tells you, take cover behind the orange truck. From here, you must shoot the white gas can because there is an enemy next to it that has got Lamar pinned down. Merely aim at the white gas can above Lamar and shoot it a few times to blow it up.More enemies decide to show up; shoot them from the safety of the orange truck. There are a few down in the alley and two on the balconies. After clearing them, a blue car drives in and leaves a gas trail. Fire at the gas trail to light them up in flames.Once you've cleared them all, you see the bike you need to repo drive off with its owner. Run after him and climb the fence as you did before. Get in your car and start pursuing him.\/ GET THE BIKE/\You must catch up to the bike and shoot down the rider. The game directs you on how to shoot, but you should focus on pursuing him so he doesn't get too far away. He goes through a few alleys, but after a little while he just stays on an open road and becomes a very easy target. When you get close to him, fire at his back a few times and you should kill him. The bike skids to the ground and you can now pick it up.\/ GO TO THE CAR WASH/\Simply drive the bike over to the car wash. The route varies a little depending on when you got the bike in the chase, but it's pretty easy to get there. When you get to the car wash, watch the cutscene and the mission will end. Your mission time, accuracy, and number of headshots determines your score, and you can always repeat the mission if you don't like your score.Since you're so close, you might as well do the first Strangers and Freaks mission. ________ ________ ________ ________| | ///////// | | |||||||| | | \\\\\\\\\ | | 3.04 - Pulling Favors ________ ________ ________ ________| | \\\\\\\\\ | | |||||||| | | ///////// | | Quest Giver: Tonya Map Icon: S Playable Character: Franklin100% Completion Goals: o Time: Complete within 05:00 o Unhook Bonus: Keep the vehicle hooked until deliveryThis mission is located directly behind the car wash; just walk over to it if you've just completed Repossession. After the cutscene, your first task is to simply go to the tow truck. Hijack a car if you don't have one, wait for Tonya to get in, and drive over to the tow truck yard. The gate opens for your car, so park it inside and then get in the tow truck.\/ GO TO THE ABANDONED CAR N' TOW IT!/\The tow truck is very slow and has bad handle, but all you have to do is drive over to the abandoned car, which is pretty close. When you get there, the game tells you how to tow the car. You must line up with it and make sure the crane is down, then target the car and carefully back up into it.Simply drive back to the tow lot with the abandoned car hooked behind you. When you get there, drive in the proper gate and drop the car off at the drop zone. When you've done that, the mission ends and you'll see how you did. As you can see, time is important here. After passing the mission, Lamar texts you and the "F" icon shows up on the map. Head back to your house (the "F" icon) to begin the next mission. ________ ________ ________ ________| | ///////// | | |||||||| | | \\\\\\\\\ | | 3.05 - Chop ________ ________ ________ ________| | \\\\\\\\\ | | |||||||| | | ///////// | | Quest Giver: Lamar Map Icon: F Playable Character: Franklin100% Completion Goals: o Not a Scratch: Complete with minimal damage to Lamar's van o Homedog: Enter Chop's perspective for 10 seconds o Advanced Reflexes: Use Franklins special ability for 7 secondsAfter the cutscene, follow Lamar and Chop as they walk down the street. When prompted, get in the white van and drive to Vinewood Boulevard. It's across town, but you basically just need to drive down one long road. When you get to the location, watch the cutscene and run back to the van. Time for another chase!\/ THE CHASE/\Don't waste any bullets trying to gun him down; just follow him as he goes through the city. He doesn't drive very fast for having a motorcycle, and your van can keep up with him rather easily. Soon he'll go into an alleyway; follow him and watch as he gets run over by a bus.Franklin lets Chop loose but you still need to run after him. Just follow Chop as he leads you to him. Climb the fence and jump down the roof onto the orange storage unit and finally the ground. From here, follow Chop to the wall and in a cutscene Franklin destroys it so Chop can run through. Continue pursuing him through the trains and another cutscene ensues. After the cutscene, switch to Chop (use the character menu like in the prologue) and watch as Chop "sniffs him out." When prompted, switch back to Franklin and open the boxcar doors. He's not in either of them, so continue to follow Chop when he... erm... runs off to hump another dog. Run after Chop and Franklin will get him off. (For now...)Back at the train, open the first boxcar door to finally find him. He'll start to run again, but Chop thankfully catches up to him and tackles him to the ground. Run over to them for another cutscene, then drive to the indicated location. When you get there, Franklin just throws him out of the car, and then you have to drop off Lamar at the rec center. The mission ends when you drop him off. ________ ________ ________ ________| | ///////// | | |||||||| | | \\\\\\\\\ | | 3.06 - Complications ________ ________ ________ ________| | \\\\\\\\\ | | |||||||| | | ///////// | | Quest Giver: Simeon Map Icon: S Playable Character: Franklin100% Completion Goals: o Time: Complete within 05:00 o Can't Touch This: Take no damage during the fight with Simeon o Dirt Nap: Knock out the gardener with a stealth attackHead over to Simeon's dealership; to start the mission, walk out front in the parking lot (unlike before where you went inside the back). During the cutscene, Simeon explains that we need to repo another vehicle for him. Find a car and head over to the house. Simeon calls you half-way and tells you that he knows you took the bike in the last mission for yourself, but he still wants you to do this mission anyway it seems.\/ STEALTH TO THE CAR/\When you get to the house, you figure out it isn't as clear-cut as you thought: you must find a way to get in! I personally went around the side of the house and jumped on the short wall, then the pillar, and finally jumped into the pool area of the house. There might be a more creative way, but that worked fine for me. Head from the pool patio to the car (dot on mini-map) and your new object will be to take out the gardener.Note that you cannot get too close to the gardener or the mission will fail. You also cannot shoot the gardener or the mission will fail. With this in mind, go back to the pool area and try to go the long way around. When you get through the patio, the game prompts you to jump on the white truck and then the roof to get to the window. Before you go through the window jump down on the other side of the house to reach the driveway and the garage. Sneak up on the gardener and perform a stealth attack to knock him out. Backtrack to the roof and enter through the window this time.Wait in the room until both of the siblings are in their rooms. Once you've waited, SLOWLY walk to the stairs and descend to the first floor. From here, turn to the kitchen to see the wife messing around with a golf instructor. You *do not* need to go into the kitchen at all; the door to the garage is *before* the kitchen. Turn left at the first available opportunity and sneak into the garage
