From the President’s Desk

Dr. P.V. RamanaPresident, AsiaGSBChairperson, ITM Group of Institutions

Welcome to Asia Graduate School of Business!

The world has shifted its attention to Asia as it is poised to become the engine for growth of global business in this century. Therefore it is imperative for Asian managers to study management of global businesses while retaining and leveraging their grasp of economic dynamics and cultural nuances of Asia.

Asia GSB was established with the goal of delivering postgraduate business education which meets the requirements of global businesses that are operating in, or will enter the Asian Continent. Our aim is to provide management education that will enable aspiring managers - particularly from Asia region - to manage businesses in a globally competitive environment.

Having said that, I should add that today, not many business schools are engaging in introspection and analysis of their course offerings and learning outcomes. Fewer still are taking a hard look at their teaching methods and the specific needs of their students. At Asia GSB, we pay close attention to this need. As a routine practice, we draw contemporary learning/teaching resources from the world over and our team works to deliver relevant and actionable programs.

AsiaGSB is a product of eighteen years introspection on “What transforms a business school into a leading institution?” This school is an initiative, built upon the concepts distilled from our rich and diverse experiences at the ITM Group of institutions. In this era of globalization and liberalization, ITM Group strives to provide the participants of all its programs with the exposure and the confidence to compete for the biggest and the best opportunities in the world. Supporting our students in their pursuit of excellence and perfection has always stood as the backdrop of all our endeavors.

Thank you for considering Asia GSB as a destination for pursuing management education.

I wish you the very best.

GodspeedDr. P.V. Ramana

Vision

Globalization of business environment is compelling business managers to face challenges from more directions than ever known. The ease of access to information, the dismantling of trade barriers between nations, the increased speed of communication and the accompanying death of distance together present challenges as well as opportunities for businesses. Overcoming these challenges and exploiting the accompanied opportunities is the key to survival and success.

Against the above backdrop, institutions that aim to build business managers for the future have the opportunity to impart learning based on not just knowledge and information but globally pertinent human values and ethics as well. Using this opportunity wisely will enable transformation of the world into an economically and socially better place. Institutions of learning will do well to recognize this fact and evolve their missions accordingly.

Asia GSB aims to be an institution of excellence, which enables management professionals to become business leaders who can transform the business and social environment in Asia and the world.

Academics

Teaching Methodology

Courses in Ex-PGDM are of several levels: foundation courses, core courses, elective courses, internships, projects and simulated business games.

All courses in the Ex-PGDM cover the theoretical background of the subject and real-life cases expose students to practical applications of business concepts. Classroom sessions are very interactive and participatory in nature.

Courses include a mix of in-class discussions, case analyses, video presentations, management games, written or audiovisual assignments, text study, assigned article study discussion and analysis, Term Papers, internships, tests, quizzes, debates, examinations, independent projects, etc, as per requirement, as decided by the concerned faculty members. Faculty has the full freedom to choose an optimum mix of the learning processes to be used in a particular course. This is done to maximize the effectiveness of the course, given the constraints of time, participant background, and type of course.

Capstone®

Capstone ® is a simulated business game. To wrap up the learning, it is essential that all the management concepts and practices are fully understood and applied in a near real environment. The participants are grouped into teams.

Each group consists of 5-6 participants. Each group of students is allotted a business unit with certain resources at a point in time. These are financial allocations, access to market, production facilities, a quantum of human resources, R & D capabilities, IP Rights etc, the participants are expected to run the business for a cycle of eight years in an intense competitive environment with a set of regulatory framework.

The students are exposed constantly to very intense dynamic market and financial inputs that would have a far reaching impact on business strategy and operations in an unstable regulatory framework. During the process of learning, participants are individually exposed to test their individual business acumen.

Qualitative Value Additions & MDP ProgramsQQQ Learning

In a rapidly evolving business environment, updating personal competencies in all areas of personality like physical, professional, emotional and spiritual has become inescapable. Facts have indicated that the crucial elements of Intelligence Quotient, Emotional Quotient and Social/Spiritual Quotient (QQQ) work together to make us better human beings. QQQ Learning is a blend of these three quotients of holistic human development.

Industrial Competency Development (ICD) ICD is another unique initiative to bridge the gap between academic inputs and requirements of the industry, to achieve suitable placements for students. It starts from developing a keen understanding of student’s area of interests. Following with an in-depth discussion with the students, program is then designed and developed to customize to the needs of students. The program then maps the functional requirements of the industry profiles suited to each student. Inputs are taken from leaders and business managers to help define outstanding performance based upon competencies for such profiles in an organization. ICD helps in giving students a clear insight on what is expected in their current and future roles in the industry. The skills gap left out by academic programs are covered in workshops, lectures, and training programs to create best fit between the student’s profile and industry benchmark.

Career Mentorship ProgramCareer Mentorship program is established with the purpose of connecting students with leading professionals in the industry. The goal of the program is to create professional relationships for students and mentors to learn and grow. In about two months of Mentorship Program commencement, students will develop an assessment of their strengths. Students will learn to reframe a real life job problem in a way that is simpler to address. Students are expected to learn how mentors maintain relationships and work with their peers to bring success to their organizations. The ITM Group, AsiaGSB, and Fisher College of Business have a strong professional network with Corporate world. Each student is assigned a mentor in the respective field who gives suggestions, recommendations and observations to help understand the role in the industry. We provide an excellent opportunity for students to track the progression of their respective industry and truly learn what it takes to be a leader.

The PGMP (now Executive PGDM) Experience

My experience at Asia GSB

Reena Jhawar

I graduated in 2007 at the top of my class (B. E., in Electronics & Communications) and was awarded the Gold Medal. However, during my first stint at Satyam Computer Services Limited India, I realized that I had a flair for Finance and that I wanted to make a career out of it. Asia GSB offered me an opportunity to achieve this “shift of lanes” in my career. This was by no means easy. I was put through consistent academic rigor, and mentored by some of the best faculty from the Fisher College of Business. This time too, I emerged eminently successful. The Asia GSB experience has truly enabled me to “redefine my future”.

I graduated in 2005 (B.E. Computer Science), worked for two years as a Consultant in Capgemini till 2010 and developed a flair for Business Process Analysis and Consulting. My PGMP experience at Asia GSB added great value to my profile by consolidating my learning at the workplace, in a structured manner. The case-based study methodology, supported by discussion of real-life scenarios, enabled me to crystallize my analytical thought process and rely on it for use in a consistent manner. The juxtaposition of two internships – Indian as well American - helped me evolve my own hybrid set of “best practices” at the workplace. I am richer by this experience and feel that I am as good as the “best in class” of engineer-consultants.

Niranjan Chaudhari

Nihar Singh

After obtaining an MS from Texas A&M University, Texas, I worked in the USA as well as Western Asia for over 3 years. Subsequently I began exploring avenues for entering into the Finance area. Asia GSB presented me with the best of both worlds; first, an opportunity to study Finance under faculty from Fisher College of Business, Ohio State University USA; and second, a facility to attend class closer to home in Hyderabad. This was cost-effectiveness without compromise! I can say from experience that the academic rigor and the commitment of teachers is just as good as what I have seen in the USA. I am glad I took this opportunity to study at Asia GSB.

Return on InvestmentStudent’s Net-Worth with Asia GSB Network

Amitkumar Surendra Singh - B. Tech., (Agri. Engg. 2006.) M. Tech., (Food Processing Tech.,2009)

Till 2010, I worked the entire supply chain of producing, harvesting, processing and marketing perishable fruit in Western India. My learning at Asia GSB has equipped me with the knowledge to apply international business models, research and management principles to profitably build and manage similar businesses and extend the supply chain globally. The internships with food-product companies in India and in the United States greatly added to my confidence that I can succeed anywhere. My profile is richer and my management skills are well honed due to the Asia GSB experience.

Dr.Prapti Patel, Bachelor of Physiotherapy.

I aspire. I plan. I execute, this has been the cornerstone leading me from a fledgling student to a business professional, fully prepared to pursue my higher studies at AsiaGSB. I am a science student with technical aptitude and an interest in management. AsiaGSB and Fisher College of business have helped me to mature, learn a lot about myself and where my strengths and weaknesses lie which helped in growth of my overall personality. However, this journey has given me the invaluable experience, of learning global business issues and strategies as well as its application through working in India and USA. This blend has given me a broader perspective to and a good understanding of life and a goal to achieve my ultimate career in management.

If no one believed in an idea you have… you would never get to where you want to be! I joined Asia GSB because it was a new way of looking at higher and professional education; it gave me an opportunity to believe. With the best faculty in the country and from the Fisher College of Business, Ohio State University, I have learned so much about different business models across the world and have a new perspective of how I see the business across the globe. Combined with my work experience and this professional qualification along with exposure to the United States of America, I am confident of being a successful business leader.

Shreya Arora, PGP in Management and Insurance, XLRI

The journey so far at Asia GSB has been on a fast track. With eminent faculty from top schools in India, internships within India and subjects covered, has all been on the lines of an Executive MBA program. The Fisher experience has been unique throughout. The knowledge gained has taught me to think of any problem in the form of model/frameworks and the internship held in the US cannot be explained in words. The project with a US company was a marketing assignment and the international immersion helped in developing perspectives by looking at two different countries altogether. I am sure that by getting the fundamentals right and strong, the landing will be a smooth one.
