Japanese anime is popular all over the world. The biggest news in 2013 in the world of anime is the release of two new

Studio Ghibli movies by the two greatest anime masters, Isao Takahata and Hayao Miyazaki. Miyazaki’s first movie since the release of “Gake no Ue no Ponyo” (Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea, which made 15.5 billion yen at the box of-fice about five years ago) is called “Kazetachinu” (The Wind Rises). The movie, based on a manga serialized in Model Graphix Magazine, is about Jiro Horikoshi, the designer of the Zero fight-

er, in his younger days. Takahata will release “Kaguya-hime no Monogatari” (The Tale of the Princess Kaguya) based on the oldest Japanese story in existence “Taketori Monogatari” (The Tale of the Bamboo Cutter) 14 years after the release of “My Neighbors The Yamadas.” “The Wind Rises” will be released this summer and “The Tale of the Princess Kaguya” will be re-leased this autumn.

The latest theater version of “Puella Magi Madoka Magica The Movie,” the TV series

that began in 2011, is also coming out this year. The serious story of five girls with a tragic destiny became a social phenomenon with great viewer ratings. Last October, the first and second theater versions were released in Japan, as well as in 18 cities in eight coun-tries—U.S.A., France, Italy, the Republic of San Marino, Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Singapore—and were blockbusters. The latest theater version of “Puella Magi Madoka Mag-ica The Movie” will be a very different story from the previous ones.

이션. 2013년 최대의 화제는 미야자키 하야오와

다카하타 이사오의 두 거장이 발표하는 스튜디오

지브리의 신작 영화이다. 미야자키 하야오의 신작

이래 약 5년 만의 “바람이 불다”이다. 원작은 미야

지로의 젊은 시절 모습을 그린다. “호호케쿄 이웃

의 야마다군” 이래 14년만에 신작을 만든 다카하

타 이사오는, 일본에서 가장 오래된 모노가타리(설

화)로 여겨지는 ‘다케토리 모노가타리’를 소재로

한 “카구야 공주 이야기”를 발표한다. “바람이 불

다”는 올여름, “카구야 공주 이야기”는 올가을 개

봉 예정이다.

“극장판 마법소녀 마도카☆마기카” 신작도 주목

을 받고 있다. 이 작품은 2011년에 TV 시리즈로

방송되었다. 가혹한 운명을 짊어진 소녀 5명의 무

겁고도 깊이 있는 이야기가 화제를 모아 사회적 반

향을 불러일으켰다. 작년 10월에는 전,후편 2작의

극장판이 공개되었다. 미국, 프랑스, 이탈리아, 산

마리노 공화국, 한국, 대만, 홍콩, 싱가포르의 8개

국 18개 도시에서도 상영되어 큰 히트를 기록했다.

The 2011 TV series “Anohana: The Flower We Saw That Day” will be released as a movie this summer. The delicate descriptions of the mixed feelings of boys and girls traumatized by the death of their childhood friend touched many people’s hearts and brought tears to their eyes. Over 270,000 Blu-ray and DVD versions have also reached blockbuster levels. The long-awaited theater version will bring back the sensations of the TV series of the summer of 2011.

We are also happy to report that the bizarre comedy, “SAINT☆YOUNG MEN,” featur-ing two grate saints as roommates living in an apartment in Tachikawa (Tokyo), will be in theaters soon. The popular comic book series by Hikaru Nakamura on which it is based reached a cumulative 950 million copies. It will open in theaters throughout Japan on May 10.

The new TV anime series “Attack on Titan” will air in April this year. The story is based on an award-winning popular comic book by Ha-

jime Isayama and exceeded a cumulative circu-lation of 10 million copies. It unveils a shock-ing world where the mysterious Titans control everything and the human put up a desperate fight to overcome their predators.

In response to popular demand since its end in 2010, a sequel to the popular TV an-ime series, “Toaru Kagakuno Railgun,” called “Toaru Kagakuno Railgun S” is in production and scheduled to air from this April with the same staff and cast as the first series, including

同年的2011年在電視上播放的《我們仍不知道那

天所看見的花的名字。》也將於今夏被搬上銀幕。

作品細膩的描寫了有過失去青梅竹馬經歷的一群

少年少女的複雜心情，令許多人動心流淚，是一部

青春動畫片的傑作。藍光光碟(Blu-ray)和(DVD

累計發行量超過27萬張，創最暢銷紀錄。通過期

待已久的劇場版，那令人感動的夏天將重新浮現。

兩位聖人在東京、立川的一間公寓裡過著共同

的生活，描寫二人日常生活的異想天開的喜劇《聖

哥傳》，其動畫片也是一部引人注目的熱門作品。

原著是以累計發行量950萬冊自豪的中村光的人

氣漫畫。自5月10日起將在日本全國的影劇院開

始上映。

電視動畫片中，《進擊的巨人》將自今年4月開

始播出。原著為累計發行量超過1000萬冊的諫

山創的人氣漫畫，曾獲多數漫畫獎。該片展現的

사람의 심금을 울린 청춘 애니메이션의 걸작이다.

Blu-ray＆DVD도 누계 출하수가 27만개를 돌파

하는 대히트를 기록. 대망의 극장판으로 그 감동의

여름이 다시 온다.

두 성인이 도쿄 다치카와의 아파트에서 공동으로

생활을 하면서 펼쳐지는 일상생활을 그린 기상천외

한 코미디 애니메이션 영화 “성인☆형님”도 주목의

화제작이다. 원작은 누계 발행 부수 950만부를 자

랑하는 나카무라 히카루의 인기 코믹. 5월 10일부

TV 애니메이션으로는 “진격의 거인”이 올해 4월

Don’t miss the upcoming TV anime series “Gargantia on the Verdurous Planet” directed

by Kazuya Murata (“Fullmetal Alchemist - Nageki no Oka no Seinaru Hoshi”), series constructed and screenplay by script writer Gen Urobuchi (“Puella Magi Madoka Magi-ca”), and produced by Production I.G. (“Ghost in the Shell”). This highly expected

SF adventure film set on Earth, a remote planet for the hero, is scheduled to premiere in April this year.

“마법소녀 마도카☆마기카”의 우로부치 겐. 애니매

이션 제작은 “GHOST IN THE SHELL/공각기동

대”의 Production I.G. 외진 혹성과 지구를 무대로

한 SF 모험 활극에 큰 기대가 집중되고 있다. 올해

Held every year since 2002, this event is one of the biggest comprehensive anime events in the world. While on business days, events are most-ly aimed towards official representatives on site, on public days, voice actors, costumed charac-ters and artists are on site to participate in many events. One anticipated event this year is a stu-dio producing “Neon Genesis EVANGELION” among many famous works, Gainax’s humor-ous presentation of their anime studio creation environment. There will be an exhibit on dis-play featuring various materials used during the production of their works. Furthermore, this year is the first to have an official cosplay area! There are changing rooms available in the main hall, so please come enjoy yourself in your favor-ite outfit. Finally, as this is the 50th anniversary of the beginning of television animation, there will be presentations and exhibitions explaining its eventful history.

Oarai in Ibaraki Prefecture, the setting for the unique anime series “Girls und Panzer” has been drawing attention. The story takes place in a fic-tional world with girls who are into the martial arts called Sensha-do (way of tanks), the art of operating tanks. Many fans visit the “sacred plac-

es” featured in the series, including the tonkatsu restaurant “Cook Fan” and the “Kapporyokan Sakanaya Honten” hotel, contributing to a rapid increase of tourists these days, which had de-creased after the 3.11 disaster. This town is also known as the biggest beach resort in the prefec-ture with nice sea bathing and marine sports. The area includes many other tourist spots such as Aqua World (an aquarium with the most kinds of sharks in Japan), the Oarai Marine Tower (the symbol of Oarai), and the “Kamiiso no Torii” gate at Oarai Isosaki Shrine from which excep-tionally beautiful sunrises can be seen. The local specialties include anko nabe (monkfish hot pot) and hoshi-imo (dried sweet potatoes).

무대로서 주목받고 있는 곳이 이바라키현 오아라

이마치. 작품 속에 등장한 돈가스 레스토랑 ‘Cook

Fan’과 ‘일본요리여관 사카나야 본점’ 등의 “성지”

를 방문하기 위해 많은 팬이 모여들고 있으며, 지진

재해의 영향으로 감소했던 관광객이 급증하고 있다.

이 지역은 이바라키현 내 최대의 비치 리조트로서

해수욕이나 해양 스포츠도 즐길 수 있고, 일본에서

가장 상어가 많은 수족관 ‘아쿠아월드 오아라이’,

지역의 상징물인 ‘오아라이 마린 타워’, 일출이 아

름답기로 유명한 오아라이 이소사키 신사의 ‘가미

이소 도리이(신사 기둥 문)’ 등과 같은 관광지가

The fantastic love comedy “Waiting in the Summer,” a love story between a beautiful girl alien and a high school boy whose hobby is in-dependent film production, is set in Komoro City, a place surrounded by mountains in every direction in Nagano Prefecture. This idyllic city overlooking Mount Asama, a 2,568-meter high active volcano, has many historical facilities in-cluding Kaiko-en, a castle ruins in which the anime is featured, and the Nunobiki Kannon (goddess of mercy) on a sheer cliff at Shakuson-ji Temple. The city has cooperated with the an-ime production and has decorated the city’s train with the anime characters. This prefecture is also a “sacred place” from another series by the same production staff, “Please Teacher!” Many anime fans travel as far as Lake Kizaki, also featured in “Waiting in the Summer.” Blessed with abundant nature as well as six hot

springs, Komoro City has local specialties such as sansai (wild vegetable) dishes and hand-made buckwheat soba noodles.

Takayama City in Gifu Prefecture is the lo-cation of the teen mystery anime “Hyouka” produced by Kyoto Animation, most famous for “The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya” and “K-on!” The prefecture is the hometown of the original author and writer of this anime, Hono-bu Yonezawa. Marutto Plaza, Hida Takayam City’s shop in the city, has a “Hyouka” corner where fans can see the desks, chairs, and other items that appear in the show, as well as enjoy-ing interactions with other fans and looking at posters and photos. Other places featured in the anime, such as “Miyagawa-Asaichi Street” and “Honmachi-dori Shotengai,” in the old castle town atmosphere, in addition to regular tourist spots that are in the area including the historical

heritage “Takayama Jinya” and the famous red Naka-bashi Bridge that embodies a traditional Japanese atmosphere are worth visiting as well. The local specialties include Hida beef, Takaya-ma ramen, and hoba miso. On April 3, a col-laborative event of the 62-yearold “Ikibina Fes-tival” with “Hyouka” will be held.

The anime “ROBOTICS;NOTES,” in which an otaku high school boy in the school’s robot club in a pinch saves the world, takes place on Tanegashima Island in Kagoshima Prefecture, the tenth largest island in Japan with the Tane-gashima Space Center set in beautiful nature. There are many great nature tourist spots includ-ing the “Chikura no Iwaya” cave created by the Pacific Ocean, “Urata Beach” with its beautiful coral reefs and colorful fish in the emerald green ocean, “Amamegagura Observatory” with a pan-oramic view of the horizon, and “Kadokura Cape,” famous as the home of the first matchlock gun in Japan. Space and rocket development ex-hibitions are free at the Space Science Technology Museum at the space center. The local specialties are flying fish and Japanese spiny lobster dishes.

The Ghibli Museum was designed by anima-tion director Hayao Miyazaki. His beloved masterpieces include “Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea,” which was the biggest Japanese hit in 2008. A permanent exhibition called“Where a Film is Born” showcases the film production process in five different rooms. Children can also touch and ride the Cat Bus that appears in the film “My Neighbor Totoro.” (Note: The Cat Bus is for children age 12 and under only.)
