疾如風徐如林侵略如火不動如山

此之所謂風林火山,乃載於《孫子兵法• 軍爭篇》內,為用兵及行軍之原則,最重要是爭得制勝

的條件,故為「以迂為直,以患為利」,使迂廻的行軍更快速到達,把不利條件變為有利。故日

本戰國時甲斐國將領武田信玄所使用的行軍策略,並列於軍旗上。其實,何先生三十九年前所設

計的甲蟲收音機時,已包含風林火山的精神,並展現於嘉利三十五年發展里程上。

首先甲蟲發現獵物時,必振翅高飛,快速捕獲獵物,猶如嘉利「疾如風」般的捕獲商機,急速發

展。而當甲蟲飛行時徐徐擺動,不慌不忙,緩速有道,恰如嘉利嚴謹的組織,員工皆徐如林,心

思平靜,細緻分工,徐徐地向目標進發。至於當甲蟲展翅時,必定一飛衝天,嘉利在開拓新業務

必定如烈火般銳不可擋,但求一鳴驚人之勢,而能一擊而蹴。最後,甲蟲靜止時,披覆着盔甲,

就像穩重如山的嘉利的工業,根基穩固,以為發展多元化的後盾。然甲蟲的一動一靜,皆與風林

火山互動,互為牽引,互補不足,動中藏靜,靜中隱動,動靜如一,動靜皆宜。故甲蟲收音機內

彰顯「風林火山,動靜一元」,乃本特刊之主題者也。

The “wind, forest, fire, mountain” phrase first appears in the “Military Combat” chapter of Sunzi’s “The Art of War,”

which outlines the principles of deploying and moving an army. In this respect, it is most important to secure the

conditions of victory by “turning the devious into the direct, misfortune into gain.” During the warring states period

in ancient Japan, Takeda Shingen, a military general of Kainokuni Kingdom, incorporated the teaching into his strategy

and had it emblazoned on the military flags. The ladybug radio designed by Mr. Ho some 39 years ago, encapsulates the

same spirit of “wind, forest, fire, mountain,” further echoed in Karrie’s journey of developments.

When the ladybug first identifies its prey, it will flap its wings and takes off to capture the target promptly. This calls to

mind how Karrie seizes business opportunities for expansion with a speed as swift as the wind. When flying, the insect

moves silently, unhurriedly and with an appropriate pace, much like Karrie’s meticulous organization. Our employees

work silently, dividing the tasks among themselves with a quiet but steady approach towards the target. After spreading

its wings for flight, the ladybug will soar to a height with uninterrupted momentum. When launching a new business,

Karrie employees move forth to accomplish their goals quietly and with the invincibility of fire. As the insect settles

down for rest, its body will remain motionless and this armor-like façade becomes a metaphor for Karrie’s industrial

business, which provides a solid foundation in support of its diversification moves. Each of the ladybug’s movement and

stillness is determined by the interaction of the wind, forest, fire and mountain elements, as they lead and supplement

each other. Every movement conceals stillness and vice versa. Movement and stillness exist as one and any situation is

well suited for both. The ladybug radio therefore embodies the philosophy of “wind, forest, fire, mountain; movement

and stillness are one”, which also underlines the theme of this publication.

嘉利國際控股有限公司及其附屬公司(「嘉利」或「集團」)創立於1980

年,歷經時代變遷、跌宕起伏,由小型工廠發展至今於業內穩居翹楚位

置的上市公司,經歷三十五載,故名為珊瑚禧,有寶貴之意。

嘉利特別編製這本紀念特刊,希望透過一幀又一幀的圖片,向各位如實

地描述嘉利成長的故事,和大家一起分享我們的喜悅及驕傲,也一同祝

願「嘉輝永興、嘉利長青」。

Established in 1980, Karrie International Holdings Limited and its subsidiaries (“Karrie” or the “Group”) has gone through ups and downs amid the changing times that witnessed its development from a small factory to a listed company at the forefront of the industries it operates in. On the occasion of our 35th year in business, we celebrate our Coral Anniversary, together with the valuable corporate experiences gained along the way.

Karrie has specially produced this commemorative publication, in the hope that all the photographs featured will collectively tell the story of our growth and that it will also enable us to share our joy and pride. Not least, we would like convey our best wishes to the Group for its longevity and everlasting growth.

發展里程

嘉利迄今創立已三十五載,又為珊瑚禧,既是嘉利第

三份的紀念特刊。能再為特刊寄語,與有榮焉。回顧

三十五年,歷盡艱辛;也經歷不同發展階段,同時也

渡過不少愉快時光,箇中滋味,不足為外人道。

偶爾回望忽見甲蟲收音機於案前,感慨萬千。這是本

人於1976年創業初期親自設計生產,這甲蟲收音機

對於我的意義甚大,當甲蟲靜待時有若泰山,穩重可

靠;啓動時,雙翼展翅欲飛,却有一飛衝天之勢;動

靜皆宜,美觀實用。在當時,乃十分有創意之產品。

回想過去,這甲蟲收音機乃本人創立嘉利的精神,歲

月葱葱,甲蟲留痕。

回想當初曾被稱為「牛佬」,學歷不高,憑藉創意及

毅力,開始創業;當時,只是一個雛型,也只是一個

開始。創業期間也非一帆風順,雖創業未半而中道遭

挫,然亦不懈於創業,仍能恢弘志士之氣,屢敗屢

戰。並於1980年創立嘉利,其間最重要的轉捩點為

中國的改革開放,於1985年本人決定掌握契機北上投

資,並在雁田興建第一所廠房;從此,重點由香港逐

漸轉移至國內,並為本集團紥下良好穩固的基礎。於

1988年收購香港雄興金屬製品有限公司,為產品多元

化發展的催化劑,並得以進入五金及個人電腦外殼

業務。為進一步為集團未來參與資本市場,於1996

年本人決定讓嘉利在香港聯合交易所有限公司上

市。1997年開始在鳳崗興建第二所廠房,進一步擴

展規模及鞏固業務模式,此謂「留根雁田,情繫鳳

崗」。不進則退,嘉利持續開拓新版圖,於2005年為

第三所廠房玉泉奠基,嘉利的眼界已轉化為「留根鳳

崗,情繫東莞」。

眼見勞工短缺以及成本每年皆以雙位數字增長,既然

我們決定留根鳳崗,故決不遷移廠房往其它地方或國

家,惟有毅然引進國際水準的機械設備,進行廠房自

動化生產,使生產更為快速精密,大幅提高集團的競

爭力,亦能滿足客戶日漸提高的要求。憑藉本人多年

Milestone

Karrie has been established for 35 years. This occasion marks the company’s Coral Anniversary and the debut of its third commemorative publication. Once more, it gives me great honour to pen this message. Looking back on our past 35 years, I cannot help but recall the hardship experienced. As we accompanied the Group through the different phases of development, we had our fair share of happy memories too. All these bittersweet experiences are ours only and can hardly be understood by outsiders.

As I looked behind me and saw the ladybug radio on top of the table, I felt emotional. It was designed by me for mass production in 1976, shortly after my business was set up. The ladybug radio held great significance for me. When it stands still, the ladybug is steady and reliable like the immovable mountain. When the insect starts flapping its wings, ready to soar, the momentum it has gathered for flight is extraordinary. Beautiful yet practical, it is perfectly suited for action and stillness. The product we created was a great innovation in its times. Casting my mind back to those years, I consider the ladybug radio as embodying the spirit by which I founded Karrie. This ladybug spirit has endured even though those times are gone.

I remember being nicknamed “Cow Man” in my younger days for my lack of high educational qualifications. But based on my creativity and determination, I founded a business. Back then, it was in an embryonic form, signifying just a beginning. Not everything ran smoothly in the company’s fledging days. In fact, we encountered defeat midway. Despite this, we never gave up and battled on with a high morale. The more defeats we suffered, the harder we fought. In 1980, Karrie was established and during that period, the launch of reforms and opening-up policies in Mainland China

brought a pivotal turning point to us. Seizing the opportunities presented, I decided to move north to invest and opened our first factory in Yantian in 1985. From then, our focus gradually shifted from Hong Kong to Mainland China, where we built a strong foundation for the Group. In 1988, we acquired Hong Kong Hung Hing Metal Manufacturing Company Limited in Hong Kong, providing a catalyst for the Group to embark on product diversification. It also gave us the opportunity to enter the metalware and personal computer casing industries. To further support the Group’s entry into the capital markets, I had Karrie listed on the Stock Exchange of Hong Kong Limited in 1996. In 1997, we opened our second production facility in Fenggang, Mainland China, to expand our operational scale further and strengthen our business model. “Sinking our roots in Yantian and being emotionally attached to Fenggang”

涉獵於創意工業的經驗,近年來本人帶領嘉利開拓

工業業務以外的領域,參與餐飲、酒店、旅遊、婚慶

及家居產品等創意文化產業;中國文化源遠悠長,且

底蘊豐厚,也沒有排他性,實為寶庫,處處商機,相

信嘉利能為中國傳統文化注入新元素,並取得經濟效

益。因此,集團在穩固的工業為後盾,以增加集團多

元化收益,減低單一依賴工業收益的風險。

掌握主權、專業團隊

有人認為作為老闆是孤獨的、寂寞的。恰恰相反,本

人認為可以是融洽的、愉快的。作為領導者只要摒棄

過時的營運模式,合適地下放權力,採納專業團隊的

管理以避免固步自封,安於現狀,停滯不前。要集團

發展,嘉利必須步向企業化管治模式,以收「百花齊

放、集思廣益」之效。自2001年始,本人已把日常運

作交由嘉利的執行委員會主理,使決策更為客觀。而

本人主要是擔當舵手及領導者的角色,最重要是「掌

握主權、運籌帷幄、決勝於千里之外」。

在過去三十五年的經歷,使我認為作為領導者必須有

「獅子的雄心;鷹隼的眼光;獵豹的敏銳及羚羊的速

度」。有雄心才有開拓業務及主導之動力,有準確的

眼光才能避免投資失利,有敏銳的觸覺,始能洞悉先

機,着着領先;有羚羊的速度才能靈活應變,不落後

於同儕。因此,孤道行而不寂寞。

居安思危、夜半深池

居安思危,思則有備,有備無患。在這三十五年內,

嘉利的發展也不是無風無浪的。想起1997年之亞洲金

融風暴,在上市不足一年,便面臨如此巨大的挑戰,

嘉利業績倒退、存貨大幅增加,甚至其中一個主要客

戶更需作債務重組。在嘉利如常的營運下,銀行非理

性及恐慌性地收緊信貸,影響集團營運資金。本人只

得沉着應戰,專注本業,一方面尋求不同融資方案;

另一方面,引入即時付運模式,提供一站式服務以吸

引客戶,加強廠房設備。因此,嘉利得以逐漸步出金

融風暴之陰霾,盈利恢復增長,想起猶有餘悸。本人

不時警惕上下,必須為集團囤積豐厚實力及穩健資金

流,居安思危,在2008年發生另一次金融風暴,集團

才沒有重蹈1997年金融危機的覆轍。

「盲人騎瞎馬,夜半臨深池」是多麼驚險的事情,

在夜半視線不良的情況下,看不清前面情境;瞎馬也

was how we described our situation. To prevent ourselves from stagnating and regression, we continued to expand our production presence and in 2005, laid the foundation for our third factory in Yuquan. By then, our sights had turned to “Sinking our roots in Fenggang and being emotionally attached to Dongguan.”

Notwithstanding the labour shortage and a yearly double-digit growth in operating cost, we decided to remain in Fenggang. Relocating to other places or countries became out of the question. We resolutely imported machinery and equipment of an international standard with a view of conducting rapid, precise production and significantly boosting the Group’s productivity, to meet increasing customer demands. Leveraging on my personal experience in the creative businesses, I led the Group to branch into the food and beverage, hotel, travel, wedding and household product industries. The Chinese culture runs long and deep and has a rich heritage with abundant opportunities that we can tap. I believe Karrie is able to inject new elements into traditional Chinese culture to yield economic gains for its benefit. Backed by its stable business in industrial production, the Group has made the move to diversify its revenue streams and reduce the risk of over-reliance on a single revenue resource.

Leadership with Professional Team

Some people think most bosses are solitary and lonely. On the contrary, I believe they can get along with others in harmony. Leaders should discard outdated management models, delegate appropriately and embrace professional management, to prevent themselves from becoming insular, contented with the status quo and stagnant. For our Group to develop continuously, Karrie must move towards a corporate management model that serves as a magnet for diverse ideas and innovations. Since 2001, I have entrusted the Group’s daily operations to Karrie’s Executive Committee, to enable more objective decision-making. As for myself, the primary role I have undertaken since is to become helmsman and leader. Most of all, my role is to “hold the ultimate authority, formulate overall strategy and make key decisions from a distance”.

The experience I have gained in the past 35 years has convinced me that a true leader must have “a lion’s ambition; an eagle’s keen vision, a leopard’s sharp reflex and an antelope’s speed”. Only with ambition will there be the motivation to develop and lead a business. Only with keen insights can investment losses be avoided. Only with a sharp reflex will it be possible to achieve a first-strike capability and lead the competition. And only with an antelope’s speed can we act flexibly and in the face of changes, without losing out to one’s peers. Therefore, a true leader can walk alone and not feel lonesome.

Prepare for the worse, arrive unfathomable depths at midnight

It is equally vital for leaders to prepare for danger in times of peace. Over the past 35 years, Karrie has gone through tough times. In 1997, barely a year after our listing, the Asian financial crisis descended upon us. Confronted by this enormous challenge, Karrie suffered a performance downturn, its stock inventory

迷失方向,可是面臨深池,掉下去會使人溺斃。在

急速變幻的營商環境下,猶如夜半使人看不透,本

人及嘉利猶如盲人瞎馬完全看不清周圍環境,在深

淵邊沿行走,偶一不慎,掉下深淵,便遭沒頂。所

以,作為領導者必須有「盲人瞎馬,夜半深池」的

警覺。營運時,必須如履薄冰,步步為營,不要求

高速沒有底蘊的增長,這樣很容易掉進大時代的漩

渦,而遭淹沒。嘉利只追求穩固漸進式的增長,而

不從事過高風險的投資。同時,專業團隊皆應凡事

多走一步,多問一句,加強溝通,以致對事件能有

透徹的理解。嘉利馳騁三十五載,仍能屹立不倒,

事非必然,望能繼往開來,穩步向前。

又有人云:何主席將嘉利業務轉型,乃放棄工業,

而從事服務行業,豈不是「盲人騎瞎馬」高風險之

舉?首先,本人從未放棄本業(工業);反之,本

人於工業投資,並未曾減少過,由投資自動化廠房

便可見一斑。反之,這是未雨綢繆之舉,利用穩定

的工業為後盾,以發展創意工業。其實,酒店、

旅遊、婚慶及餐飲業務之主要目的為建立「滿屋世

界」的品牌,培育及創造品牌的過程也是不斷創新

的過程,自身有了創新的力量,才能在激烈的競爭

中立於不敗之地。現在本集團透過不同途徑形成消

費者對品牌的認同;創造品牌信仰,並帶來美好聯

想及雋永記憶,形成強烈的品牌忠誠,最終便能為

股東爭取最大利潤。

surged drastically and one of our key customers had to undergo debt restructuring. While Karrie sought to continue its operations as normal, the banks tightened their credit facilities irrationally in an apparently panicky move, impacting our working capital badly. Remaining calm in the face of adversity, I focused firmly on growing our core business. On the one hand, I sought different financing solutions, and on the other, introduced a just-in-time model that provided one-stop services to attract customers and strengthened our factory facilities. Gradually, Karrie emerged from the crisis to see our profit growth resumed. Thinking about it now still makes me jittery. I have repeatedly reminded our staff of different seniority levels about the need to ensure the Group’s financial strength and robust capital flows are maintained to prepare it for unforeseen contingencies. This has enabled the Group to avoid repeating the mistakes made in 1997, when a financial crisis struck again in 2008.

Please also consider the unnerving scenario of a blind man riding a blind horse, arriving at a body of water past midnight. In the darkness of night, the blind horse has lost its way, only to set foot on the edge of a pond with unfathomable depths. One misstep and both the creature and its rider would plunge straight into it and drown. Like a blind man carried by a blind horse, Karrie and I had traversed across the treacherous business landscape amid murky surroundings. Just one miscalculation and we would fall off the cliff into our watery deaths below. This is why a leader needs to stay alert at all times. When operating a business, we must act as though we are treading on thin ice, exercising great care in every step we take. This also means that we should never chase high-speed growth without solid backup. Otherwise, we would risk being sucked into the whirlpool of the current circumstances with fatal consequences. Karrie only pursues stable, incremental growth, while steering clear of overly risky investments. Meanwhile, professional team in every issues should go the extra mile, raise more questions and enhance communication with others to gain a clear understanding of the issues on hand. This is the reason why the Group is still standing tall after 35 years in the business. It is our aim to continue our operations, taking steady steps safely forward. Some people have wondered if the Chairman Mr. Ho is taking Karrie through a business transition and giving up on factory

此外,本人創立嘉利的精神,亦隱喻本特刊「風林

火山、動靜一元」的理念,其要義乃源自《孫子兵

法 ● 軍爭篇》,即為「疾如風、徐如林、侵略如火及

不動如山」。風林火山皆包含動與靜,動中帶靜,靜

中顯動,動靜如一。其精髓為「以迂為直,以患為

利」。作為領導者必須掌握迂直之計。

可持續發展

嘉利為社會公民之一,必須貢獻及參與社會業務,

和諧共存,注重可持續發展。作為一個負責任的企

業公民,嘉利一直熱心推動企業社會責任,並正式

成立「社會公益活動小組」;本人亦不遺餘力的捐

建希望小學,扶助貧困山區學童,關注職安健,減

少碳排放及能源損耗,且斥巨資處理污水。「嘉建

於恆、利澤社群」,這是嘉利回饋社會及環境保護

的承諾。

production to zero in on the services sector. Isn’t this a high-risk move akin to a blind man riding a blind horse? First of all, let me clarify that I have never given up on our core business (manufacturing). Our investments in the industrial business have never been scaled down, judging by the extent of investments committed to automating our factory facilities. Rather, what I have done is to prepare ourselves for possible rainy days ahead. My plan is to leverage on our stable business base in industrial production to provide solid backing for our developments in the creative services industry. The rationale for our foray into the hotel, travel, wedding and the food and beverage business is to build a “Fullhouse World” brand. Creating and nurturing our own brands is a process of never-ending innovation. Only when we have developed the capacity for innovation could we remain unscathed in the intense business competition. Presently, our Group is using different channels to build customer identification with our brands. Creating brand worship, with positive associations and lasting impressions of our brands, can generate immense brand loyalty, which will ultimately secure maximum profits for our shareholders.

The spirit by which I founded Karrie is totally in line with the concept of “wind, forest, fire, mountain; movement and stillness are one”, originally from the “Military Combat” chapter in Sunzi’s classic, “The Art of War.” It means “swift as the wind, silent as the forest, attack like the fire and be immovable as the mountain.” There is stillness in movement and vice versa, as both these elements exist as one. The thrust of this combat philosophy is to “turn the devious to direct and misfortune to gain.” Leaders should possess a strategy that gives them the ability to turn the devious to direct.

Sustainability

As a responsible corporate citizen, Karrie contributes keenly to and engages in community affairs, with a focus on peaceful co-existence and sustainable development. In addition, we also strive passionately to fulfill our corporate and social responsibilities. A volunteer group for charitable works has been formed within the Group to execute all these obligations of ours. l have also donated to and built Hope primary schools to help needy pupils from the remote mountainous regions on the mainland. 要了解何主席及嘉利的歷程,本集團創辦人之一,

集團主席夫人何寶珠女士是不可或缺的重要人物。

雖然何太為人低調,但在嘉利不難發現何太的足跡

及身影。悠長歲月,往事如煙,原以為長話短說,

可是說來話長,何太撫今追昔,由何先生創業起至

嘉利發展至今,經歷逾三十五載,何太娓娓道來,

如數家珍,嘉利的歷史再一一呈現於眼前。

For a better understanding of the Chairman Mr. Ho and Karrie’s developments, it will be necessary to introduce an indispensable person on the team - Madam Ho Po Chu, wife of the chairman and one of the Group’s founders. Despite her low-profile ways, Mrs. Ho’s presence is widely felt across the organization. In Karrie’s long history, there are many memories worth savoring and she remembers them clearly, from how Mr. Ho founded the business to the trajectory of its progress, up till now. After spending 35

are the issues of occupational safety, carbon emissions reduction and natural resources depletion. Karrie has invested heftily in sewage processing facilities as one of its sustainability initiatives. “Building on Karrie’s sustainability platform and benefiting community groups” is our promise to pay back society and protect the environment.

The Group’s celebration of its 35th anniversary marks a significant milestone for us all. I am deeply aware of the importance of corporate sustainability. For an organization to develop sustainably, it must be equipped with a talent pool inclusive of the “old, middle-aged and the young” where each supports and complement another under the principle of meritocracy. Succession calls for the baton to be passed from the older generation to the younger one, which must be willing to accept the responsibilities, so that the Group’s business cycle can be perpetuated continuously. Finally, I would like to take the opportunity to express my heartfelt gratitude to all customers, bankers, vendors and shareholders for their unswerving support and to our management and staff for their valuable contributions.

三十五周年是一個重要的日子,本人深諳一個企業延

續的重要性,企業得以永續發展,必須具備「老中

青」的梯隊式人才庫,牡丹綠葉相扶持,剛柔並

濟,不拘一格,能者居之。傳承必須是由上一代交

付下一代,而下一代願意承擔,乃有生生不息之

意。冀望下一代管理者能接棒,發揮嘉利優勢,繼

續不斷進步增長。最後,本人藉此機會向三十五年

何太乃性情中人,故何太較為懷緬嘉利初期及雁田

開荒的時候。那時候,管理層及員工的關係密切,

管理層定必身先士卒,員工便能前仆後繼,勇往直

前,上下一心,同舟共濟,以廠為家,人情味濃。

然隨着集團的發展,集團是必須制度化及流程化,

採用專業化管理,人情味自然會稍欠,雖有唏噓,

也屬無奈。

Mrs. Ho is also a down-to-earth person who avoids a lavish lifestyle or the pursuit of fame. To her, a simple bowl of wanton noodles is good enough for a meal. At the height of the financial crisis, Mr. Ho used all his assets as collateral to secure a bank loan for Karrie to tide over the adversities, while people around him looked on nervously. However, Mrs. Ho reacted with surprising calm, reckoning that losing it all would not be the end of the world and that she was ready to revert back to an impoverished life with no regrets. Looking at life with an open heart, she perceived : “Seeing things doesn’t mean you have seen them for what they actually are. Seeing them for what they are doesn’t mean you see them with clarity. Seeing them with clarity doesn’t mean you see them with understanding. Seeing things with understanding doesn’t mean you see through them. Seeing through things doesn’t mean you can put them down.” Generally, she takes life easy and is always contented, with no strong attachment to things. Mrs. Ho finally calls for the torch to be passed to the new generation, including the company’s legacy of overcoming the odds, and hopes that it would reach a fine balance in its corporate governance and humanized management.

在何太眼裏,何先生自創業至今皆堅毅不屈,勇於

接受挑戰,當遭遇挫折,仍能迎難而上,勇往直前

向目標出發,且經得起時間考驗,亦不輕言放棄;

辦事有一股誓必一鳴驚人之衝勁,面對困難時,也

能冷靜思考,有條不紊地解決問題,處理事情亦不

厭其煩的反復揣摩細節,力臻完美,終能「以患為

利」。除事業外,何先生對家庭也很負責,經常以

嚴父的姿態督導子女,猶如在公司領導員工般一絲

不苟。

In her eyes, Mr. Ho has always been the determined and unyielding man since the days he founded Karrie. Undaunted in the face of defeat, he is able to face down any challenges, tackle them against all odds and move resolutely towards his goals. As someone who never gives up easily, Mr. Ho has withstood the test of time with his beliefs and action. Whenever he sets out to accomplish something, he does so with an amazing drive, which has also gained him the skills to unravel problems calmly and in an organized, orderly manner. When handling issues, he would think through every detail and issue carefully, while striving for perfection. This has ultimately honed his ability to “turn misfortune into gain.” Besides his career, Mr. Ho is also strongly committed to his family, where he teaches his children as their strict father, with the same meticulous, no-nonsense approach characteristic of his style back in office.

Mrs. Ho is a sentimental person who makes no effort to hide her feelings. She recalls with fondness the Karrie’s start-up days, when she and her husband built a business from scratch in Yantian. In its early days, the company saw a closer bonding between its management and staff at the time. Leading by example, the management inspired its staff members to follow through every decision with great passion and dedication. They worked together as one, helping each other and calling the factory their home. However, with the Group’s continual development, it has become a must for all to follow a stringent management system with a standard operation flow. Things might have become less human touch these days, but this is the inevitable outcome of the Group’s progress.

同時,何太乃實幹型,從不追求奢華浮誇的生活,不

求聞達,普通的一碗「雲吞麵」也可作一餐;雖在金

融風暴期間,當時何先生已把所有物業抵押以支撐企

業渡難關,旁人亦覺驚險的時候,何太竟然淡淡然覺

得輸了也不算是一回事,回復從前貧困生活也欣然,

有本來就如此的平常心。「看得到,不等如看得見;

看得見,不等如看得清;看得清,不等如看得懂;看

得懂,不等如看得透;看得透,不等如看得開」。何

太看得開,放得下,內心安樂知足,自能品閑人生。

最後何太寄語薪火相傳,勉勵下一代能接力延續嘉

利,並秉持嘉利精髓駕馭各方挑戰困難,但亦期盼於

管治與人性化管理間取得恰如其分。

New Age for Design

The ladybug radio was designed by our Chairman Mr. Ho thirty-nine years ago. The ladybug’s wings can be opened and closed to adjust the radio’s volume. Back then, it sold extremely well in the United States and Europe but now one can only bid for it on the Internet, which shows just how rare and valuable the product has become. Although Mr. Chan Ping Pui, Michael (“Michael”) had no direct involvement in its design, he is an important witness to its production. In those years, transistor radios were square, heavy boxes, made only for functionality with no significant value in design aesthetics.

Linking the ladybug radio’s volume adjustment to the opening and closing of its “wings” was part of the mechanical design considered to be novel and full of creativity in those days. Technically, it was a groundbreaking product. All the components inside the ladybug mainly contained plastic, and this made the radio extremely light and convenient to carry by anyone. The radio is not only practical but also visually attractive and can also be used as a toy or accessory, which contributed to its huge popularity in the market. The radio’s mechanical design created plenty of challenges for actual production. But given Mr. Ho’s indomitable spirit and unyielding diligence, numerous difficulties were resolved, making it possible for the ladybug radio to enter mass production. The product earned Mr. Ho’s first bucket of gold and due to its innovative nature, it holds a great significance for him.

設計新猷

甲蟲收音機乃何主席所設計,這已是約三十九年前的

產品。該甲蟲翅膀之開合會跟隨收音機之音量大小而

定,暢銷歐美。現今只得在網上競投得來,珍貴非

常。陳炳培先生(「陳先生」)雖非直接參與設計,但亦

為重要的生產見證者,回說以前的原子粒收音機皆是

四方形,十分笨重,只重實用,而毫無設計可言。

甲蟲收音機的音量與翼之開合的機械式設計,在當時

來說是嶄新及充滿創意,技術在業界堪稱一絕。甲蟲

內部組件皆以塑膠為主,體態輕盈,方便携帶。這收

音機既實用,且美觀,有動感,又可當玩具,也可為

裝飾品,一物幾用,十分受歡迎。當生產時翼的機

械結構為生產帶來不少困難,但在何先生堅毅不屈的

努力不懈之下,克服不少阻礙,終能把甲蟲收音機量

產。這產品為何先生帶來第一桶金,也極具創意,故

對何先生深具意義。

陳先生與何先生共事數十載,眼中的何先生凡事親

力親為,很重視產品生命力,也明白創意為產品的靈

魂;更了解何先生辦事是很有恆心毅力,遇到阻礙,

不會沮喪,必定去想解決的辦法,並邁向目標,確有

「鍥而不捨,金石可鏤」之能。故在推行自動化的初

期,效果不彰。何先生作為主帥,立刻雷厲風行,參

與督導,鍥而不捨地深化自動化進程,終能提升生產

效率及產品的精確性,大幅提高嘉利競爭力,此謂一

例也。

技術突破

何卓明先生(「明哥」)現為嘉利非執行董事兼副主

席,亦為何主席之胞弟,在製作甲蟲收音機時,明哥

還很年輕,主要在擔當做模的工作,由於甲蟲工模結

Michael and Mr. Ho have worked together over the past few decades. In Michael’s perception, Mr. Ho attends to every task personally, places great importance on the product’s life force and understands that creativity is the soul of any product. Where work is concerned, Mr. Ho has proven to be perseverant and he never gets defeated by the obstacles encountered. Instead, he comes up with all the different solutions as he moves steadily towards the goals. When the factory automation project was initially implemented, the results fell short of expectation. As the project leader, Mr. Ho threw himself into the hard work immediately and personally supervised the entire process. His persistence and unyielding attitude paid off when the factory’s productivity and operational efficiency, along with the product precision, became greatly enhanced. This had given Karrie a much-boosted competitive edge that propelled it to further and greater success.

Technological Breakthrough

Mr. Ho Cheuk Ming (“Ming Gor”) is presently Karrie’s Non-Executive Director and Deputy Chairman. He is also the Chairman Mr Ho’s younger brother. When the ladybug radio was in production decades ago, Ming Gor was still very young and primarily responsible for mold making. Manufacturing the ladybug’s mold was technically demanding and so was its mass production. Equally a challenge was to create the ladybug’s decorative spots. It had to be done by gold stamping, resulting in substantial wastage. Finally, the Chairman Mr. Ho suggested the solution of paint spraying. This method helped overcome the problem and made mass production possible. The episode reflects Mr. Ho’s perseverance and patience.

Ming Gor also believes the Chairman Mr. Ho is prompt in action, whose brains work just as fast. When Karrie was preoccupied with manufacturing video cassette cases, the Chairman Mr. Ho surprised everyone with his acquisition of Hong Kong Hung Hing Metal Manufacturing Company Limited and diverted Karrie’s operational focus to other manufacturing businesses. If Karrie had continued relying on the production of video cassette cases, it would have been phased out by the times. Implementing automation in the company’s factory lines and branching into the creative and cultural industries are other alternatives by our Chairman Mr. Ho to “replace the old with the new”. Indeed, he is

構複雜,亦覺得在當時的技術而言,製作甲蟲工模難

度很高,很難量產,尤其是甲蟲身上的斑點,是用燙

金壓下去,損耗很大。惟何主席最終卻以噴油的方法

解決,可見何主席的恆心及耐心,問題得以解決,終

能量產。

明哥亦覺何主席處事行動快速,腦筋「轉數」很快。

在嘉利製作錄影帶殼如火如荼時,何主席竟然毅然收

購香港雄興金屬制品有限公司,把嘉利業務轉往其他

生產業務,此舉當時令明哥感到莫明其妙。然時間

証明,何主席此舉實屬高瞻遠矚,倘若嘉利當時仍然

依賴錄影帶殼的生產,可能嘉利的產品在淘汰巨輪

之下,遭受重創。還有推行自動化及開拓創意文化產

業,皆何主席之「捨舊謀新」之舉,何主席確實比人

走快一步。明哥感謝何主席能給予他機會參與嘉利的

成長。最後明哥寄語嘉利繼續發展,續創輝煌。

州;由雁田到鳳崗,乃至玉泉;從簡單生產錄影

帶殼,擴展到模具設計加工、注塑、金屬沖壓、

噴塗、個人電腦及伺服器外殼、辦公室文儀用品及

醫療產品等一條龍的業務模式;從勞工密集的工業

製作模式至資本密集的自動化模式;從工業至涉獵

餐飲、酒店、旅遊、婚慶及家居產品之創意文化產

Karrie’s development journey has proceeded at a pace comparable to swift wind. From being incepted in Hong Kong to its heading north to Mainland China. From sinking our roots in Yantian, then expanding to Fenggang and Yuquan. From the simple production of video cassette housings to embracing a one-stop business services model, inclusive of tooling design and value-added work; plastic injection; metal stamping and coating; as well as the manufacturing of personal computers and server casings, office automation and medical products. From a singular focus on industrial production to diversification into various creative and cultural services industry, inclusive of food and beverage, hotels, travel, weddings and household products. From a small-scale private enterprise to a public listed company capable of raising its own capital. Miraculous though they may seem, our profound transformations have all been completed in a short span of 35 years.

Over the past 35 years, Karrie has progressed with the swiftness of wind. Adept at seizing the right timing, Karrie has expanded its business presence decisively to capture market opportunities and create them as and when appropriate. Under Mr. Ho’s leadership, we have been quick to respond to unforeseen market changes with great speed. Whether it is tackling the challenges of financial crisis or pushing for factory-wide automation, we have promptly seized new opportunities to take the industry lead, ahead of our peers. 解決勞工荒之餘,更把嘉利的產能以倍數躍升,為客

戶提供強勁出貨支援,於業內更保持領先競爭優勢,

是嘉利人的驕傲。

“Attack like fire” is the action strategy undertaken by the Group for developing its new businesses. Charging forward with a momentum of strength as irresistible as fire is essential in such a pursuit, to seize the identified goals. The idea is to “amaze the world with a single brilliant feat.” This calls to mind a ladybug that remains as calm and still as a maiden when at rest, but unleashes incredible momentum and strength as it takes off to the sky. Karrie understands that “good tools facilitate good work”. When a company embarks on new business development, its action plan should be geared towards securing a market share straight away. This is why, over the past decades, Karrie has never spared any resources when investing in its factory facilities, machinery and equipment, in order to maintain a superb arsenal and ample capacity to commence countless new projects for its customers. The same can be said about how it has launched new products with speed and impact. Judging by this, Karrie is a collaboration partner its customers can absolutely trust and rely on.

To resolve the long-term problem of heavy, escalating labour cost, Mr. Ho made a farsighted move since 2007 to push for the automation of the company’s factory facilities, with hefty investments made for purchasing robots for use on its production lines. This has not only helped overcome the labour shortages encountered, but also increased Karrie’s production capacity by several times, enabling it to maintain an unparalleled competitive edge in the industry. Everyone in Karrie takes immense pride in such an accomplishment.

Internal departments must work together as one team, sharing the same goal with full devotion. Therefore, Karrie must maintain effective communication channels so that opinions from senior levels can reach the subordinates. To this end, the Group holds brainstorming sessions and workshops from time to time, ensuring that all teams are well coordinated, support one another and charge forward with full confidence.

設計,在此過程中學習到了如何進行項目專案管理,

並完善了塑膠模具和注塑方面的專業技能。

2004年,趙總初為人父,為了方便照顧妻子,就初次

來嘉利工模部任職塑膠模具工程技術員,但當時第一

次機會共席就餐,何先生給他留下很有思考及充滿激

情的深刻印象。後來他進了一家上市的德資公司,在

那裡,趙總系統地完善了工廠管理知識,學到了管理

精髓,並在理念先進、管理大氣的德資企業裡開闊了

眼界、擴大了視野。

趙總總結,日資企業強調的是技術及工作細膩;而德資

公司,管理嚴謹;港資公司總體來講屬於開放式管理,

充分給予員工自主發揮的空間,趙總更直言非常欣賞香

港同事今日事今日畢,自己的工作拼命都會完成,以及

具備較高的職業操守。

重懷嘉利

2008年,嘉利因為在宜興發展廠房而邀請趙總再次回

來,當時趙總認為自己可以利用宜興這個平臺更好發

揮自己所累積的技術及管理,可惜當時因故再次離

開,但內心早已對嘉利種下情緣。2011年12月,何先

生獨具慧眼把心懷感恩的趙總請回公司時,為爭取更

多新專案,趙總常跟管理層討論專案到深夜,抱著「

拿得到要拿,拿不到也要拿」的信念,並制定了新的

策略:有求必應、禁止說不!

結果某個連同行包括客戶自己都預計會出問題的重大

專案,經過公司各部門的全員積極參與,六個月就完

崭新前路 趙凱先生

音量不低的嗓門,神彩飛揚的談吐,個性犀利的思

維,處處彰顯出直爽與豪邁。他,就是讓嘉利員工們

尊敬、又帶著些畏懼的集團執行董事兼總經理趙凱先

生(「趙總」)。

初生之犢

趙總23歲大學畢業後,25歲就當上一家大型國企

最年輕的中層幹部、最年輕的優秀黨員和工廠標

兵。2000年趙總抱著出來看看的心態就來到了廣東。

趙總第一次來廣東是在日資企業做模具QC,英語功

底紮實的他在工作之餘,喜歡去擺弄那些新購買的先

進機器,趙總憑著自己的好學和機智,學會模具程式

設計與操作。後來又被領導給機會學習精密塑膠模具

Mr. Zhao candidly admitted to having a high regard for his Hong Kong colleagues, who finish their work on time and work exceedingly hard to accomplish their responsibilities, and have a high level of work ethics.

Embrace Karrie Again

In 2008, Karrie invited Mr. Zhao to return to the company to help spearhead its factory development in Yixing. At the time, he believed it was a perfect opportunity for him to apply his technical and management experience but owing to some reasons, he left again. However, he cultivated an emotional attachment for the company. In December 2011, Mr. Ho approached Mr. Zhao again, urging him to return. Mr. Zhao eventually did so and in order to secure more projects, he held brainstorming sessions with the factory management late into the evenings. The strategy they agreed on was: “Never say no to new projects!”

Led by Mr. Zhao, the team boldly took on as many new projects as possible, including one acknowledged by the client to be fraught with teething problems. Under the united efforts of the Group’s various departments, the project took merely six months for completion, from acceptance of customer order to the prototype stage and from trial production to mass manufacturing. This set a record for the client in production speed and took all the individuals involved by surprise. But the incident showed Mr. Zhao the company’s hidden potential, including how everyone in the company could work hand in hand towards a single goal and the high level of professionalism. Most of all, he saw hope in the company.

A booming voice, a lively conversational style and a sharp mind are all part of his direct, gregarious personality. Respected by Karrie employees with a hint of awe, he is none other than the Group’s Executive Director and General Manager Mr. Anson Zhao Kai (“Mr. Zhao”).

Brave without Fear

After Mr. Zhao graduated from university at the age of 23, he joined a large state-owned enterprise to become its youngest middle-level cadre, outstanding party member and factory pace-setter at age 25. In 2000, the young Mr. Zhao arrived in Guangdong province and curious to see the world.

Mr. Zhao first joined a Japanese-financed enterprise, where he took up quality control in mold making, in Guangdong. Possessing a solid grasp of English, he spent his leisure hours exploring the factory’s newly purchased machinery. Mr. Zhao learned mold design and operation, driven by a desire to learn, combined with his innate intelligence. Subsequently, he was offered the chance to learn precision plastic mold design, thanks to the supervisor, and it was in this process that he picked up project management techniques, while honing his professional skills in plastic molds and plastic injection.

In 2004, Mr. Zhao became a first-time father but in order to take care of his wife, he joined Karrie’s Tooling Department to become a plastic mold engineering technician. He had the first opportunity to join Group Chairman Mr. Ho for a meal, and was impressed with Mr. Ho’s thoughtful and passionate ways. Later, he found employment with a German-financed listed firm and it was there that he perfected his factory management knowledge. Working in an environment where an advanced management model was upheld opened his eyes to how an international firm operated and this broadened his horizons considerably.

Based on his own working experiences, Mr. Zhao noted that Japanese firms emphasize technical expertise, demanding attention

在趙總看來,惟有「腦震盪」式的衝擊才能有所成

效,因此趙總才以「強勢、犀利、不講情面、不給面

子」的管理風格躍入大家的眼簾。

「其實被上司否定方案,是希望你能反思;被批評,

也正是上司認為你還有可塑的希望」,趙總如斯說。

趙總認為,作為一個高層管理者,如果連「面子」這

個關都過不了,那就沒有資格做一個高層管理。講到

管理風格,趙總希望各管理人都能在遵守公司原則制

度下,以其獨有管理風格及手法,創造式地去管理部

門及員工,但必須要達到公司要求的目標及效果。

Mr. Zhao’s heartfelt advice for his colleagues is best summarized as follows: Be well prepared, seize the opportunities that come along, remain loyal and committed to your work, maintain good occupational ethics and do not be too calculating over your personal gains and losses.

While the problem can be quickly fixed with a total staff turnover, he believes that the company’s employees have plenty of positive attributes to contribute, just that their best potential has yet to be fully tapped and activated. For continual progress, the company must swiftly reverse its negative ways as these might impact its future corporate developments. In Mr. Zhao’s perception, the solution lies in exposing the team constantly to “brainstorming” impact. This is why his management methods have come across as “overly strong, sharp, impersonal and stopping short of ‘giving face’ to others.”

“When your proposal has been rejected by your supervisor, it is to give you the opportunity for a rethink. When you have been criticized, it means that your supervisor thinks you can still be trained and remolded for the better,” said Mr. Zhao. According to him, senior managers must overcome their hang-ups about “giving face to subordinates”, in order to qualify as true leaders. He also hopes that the various managers and supervisors can use their unique management styles and methods to manage their respective departments and subordinates well, in line with the company’s principles and systems, and to reach the objectives and outcomes it demands of them.

勇创天地 林隆光先生

林隆光先生(「林先生」),嘉輝房地產拓展有限公

司董事總經理,亦是嘉利的重要策略性合作伙伴。

其實,林先生33年前原為嘉利一員,主要負責廠房

建築、裝修、維護及生活區的建設。其後,為配合

公司長遠發展需要,何主席認為林先生必須要脫離

嘉利自組公司做老闆才更具成本效益,並可鍛鍊自

己及組成了專業團隊,以開拓另一片新的景象。

其間林先生參與打造及管理業務如房地產、酒店

及國家4A級旅遊基地東莞龍鳳山莊等項目,建立

了嘉輝路東側二十多萬平方米的商業及旅遊區。

林先生憑藉於這些項目的經驗,也協助嘉利興建

廠房及創新文化產業。失之東隅,收之桑榆,雖

犧牲在嘉利打工的穩定性,便能有創出新天地的

得着,成為嘉利的理想合作伙伴。

适时巧造 談永雄先生

談永雄先生(「談先生」)現為嘉利五金噴漆廠之技

術顧問,1973年談先生原是香港雄興金屬製品有限

公司(「雄興」)的一員猛將,嘉利於1988年收購

雄興後,談先生一直負責開拓國內廠及負責製造業

務,1996年上市時更被委任為董事會成員。談先生

於五金業務專業技術有深厚認知,擅長於鋪排廠房

設施、工藝流程及技術管理,是機箱業務拓荒者之

一,見證嘉利五金、塑膠及電子行業光輝的一頁。

隨著集團業務不斷增長,對一個技術人員需兼顧更

多管理工作,談先生感到壓力驟增,不勝負荷,為

著集團發展利益,故於2006年只得退下第一線,但

他仍牽掛嘉利。一年後回歸是以顧問身份,在技術

層面上輔助嘉利,於生產自動化上助一臂之力,殊

有榮歸。談先生毅然豁達成就嘉利長遠性發展,更

引証了「人盡其才」之道理,談先生對嘉利的未來

發展相當樂觀。

Opening New Frontiers Mr. Lam Lung Kwong

Mr. Lam Lung Kwong (“Mr. Lam”) is the

Managing Director of Castfast Properties

Development Company Limited and an

important strategic partner of Karrie.

In fact, Mr. Lam was a staff member of

Karrie 33 years ago, responsible for factory

construction, decoration, maintenance and

community zone development. Following

Karrie Chairman Mr. Ho’s advice, Mr.

Lam later left the company to form his

own enterprise. Such a move would be

more cost beneficial, while emboldening

Mr. Lam to form his own professional team and open

new business frontiers. During this period, Mr. Lam was

involved in developing and managing business operations,

including real-estate, hotels and the Longfeng Villa Resort

project, a Mainland China tour attraction rated Grade 4A

by the state. One of the projects he was involved in was

to build a 200,000 square metre business and travel district

east of Jiahui Road. Taking advantage of these project

experiences, he helped Karrie build factories and its

business in the creative and cultural services industry.

Though Mr. Lam had sacrificed income stability as

an employee of Karrie, he has gained substantially by

developing his own business frontiers, ultimately to

become the Group’s ideal business partner.

Doing Correct at the Right Timing

Mr. Tam Wing Hung

Mr. Tam Wing Hung (“Mr. Tam”) is presently the technical consultant of Karrie Metal Stamping and Surface Treatment Business Unit. Back in 1973, he was a top technician of Hong Kong Hung Hing Metal Manufacturing Company Limited (“Hung Hing”). After Karrie’s acquisition of Hung Hing in 1988, Mr. Tam had been made responsible for developing the Group’s mainland-based factories and overseeing its manufacturing operations. In 1996, when the Group became listed on the Stock Exchange of Hong Kong Limited, he was appointed to the company’s Board of Directors. Equipped with profound knowledge of the metal business and technology, he is an expert in factory facilities layout, technical workflow and technology management. An industry pioneer in the computer case business, he bears witness to the golden years of Karrie’s metal, plastics and electronics businesses. But with the Group’s continual business expansion, Mr. Tam found himself having to handle more management work, which exerted considerable stress on a technical person like himself. For the benefit of the Group’s long-term expansion, he withdrew from his frontline position in 2006. A year later, he returned to the company to become its consultant. In this role, he provided the company with the assistance it requires at the technical level, including production automation. Mr. Tam’s magnanimous move to facilitate the long-term development of Karrie bears testament to how the optimal deployment of talents can be beneficial to both parties. He is proud of contributing his fullest services to the company he admires so much and remains optimistic of its future.

岁月留金姚月鳳小姐

姚月鳳小姐(「姚小姐」),現在主要負責服務業

人力資源及行政工作,入職嘉利31年,卻在國內拓

荒至今30年,撫今追昔,姚小姐接獲任務回國內開

荒,黃毛丫頭未得家人同意,便欣然出發至雁田,

當時雁田只是一條偏僻的小農村,一遍荒蕪,交

通貧乏,在公路上站一小時也沒有車經過,也沒有

任何通訊設施。「家徒四壁」的廠房比當時其他瓦

屋廠房已是豪華裝修,令人羨慕,並引以為模範。

「電筒、水鞋、蠟燭」便為生活三寶,電筒是用以

照路;道路在開發,經常水浸,便要用水鞋涉水而

行;經常停電,故用蠟燭照明。宿舍也偏隅工場倉

庫一角,上下格鐵床與人共享,停電便停工,不分

時刻電來便開工。

姚小姐多年來經歷實在太多,不少苦與樂,於1986年與何主席站在小山坡上,為現時雁田廠選址及

1999年鳳崗廠剛啟用時,何先生為某客户下達予姚

小姐負責的7☆柯打,惟大家團結一心趕貨,盡顯

當時員工的歸屬感及凝聚力,雖事隔多年但至今仍

歷歷在目,印象深刻。最後,姚小姐在懷緬開荒之

初,慨嘆當年的艱辛,而現今各項設備,皆比以前

完善,事非必然,真的得來不易。

留之以情

鄧雪瓊小姐

鄧雪瓊小姐(「鄧小姐」)入職30年,為雁田時期最

早入職嘉利員工之一,她雖是雁田本地人,但卻是

刻苦耐勞。鄧小姐由當初的生產線組長,到今日擔

任五金噴漆廠高級經理一職,可謂見證着嘉利不同

年代之演變。鄧小姐最感恩嘉利的濃厚人情味,特

別在她結婚時,何主席及何太贈予她的首飾,她在

感激之餘,也十分珍惜,珍藏至今不曾穿戴,當時

嘉利又派出車輛幫助接送賓客及安排拍攝婚禮過

程,留下人生重要一刻片段。嘉利的這份情懷及

對員工的關心,使她在嘉利工作是她一生最無悔

的選擇。

Remembrance of the Golden Years

Ms. Yiu Yuet Fung Ms. Yiu Yuet Fung (“Ms. Yiu”) responsible mainly for human resource and administrative work of service industry, has been in Karrie’s employment for 31 years. But for the past three decades, she was stationed in Mainland China to help pioneer and develop the company’s operations from scratch. Looking back, when Ms. Yiu received the company’s posting, she left for the mainland without her family’s consent. At that time, Yantian was a remote village with only barren land and poor public transportation. One could stand on the roads with no vehicles in sight for an hour and there were also no telecommunication amenities there. The spartan manufacturing plant she helped oversee was considered better equipped than most other factory buildings. It was often hailed as an exemplary establishment of its kind back then. A battery torch, a pair of waterproof boots and candles were the three necessities in life she could not do without. The torch was used to illuminate the path she travelled on amid darkness. As the roads were being newly developed, they were prone to flooding and so, the boots came in handy. Due to the regular power outages, the candles she carried were also useful to provide lighting. In the dormitory, half concealed behind a corner of the factory warehouse, she shared an iron double-decker bed with another colleague. Work had to stop during electricity blackouts and it had to resume regardless of the hours.

Ms. Yiu has lost count of the experiences, both happy and less-pleasant ones, she accumulated over the years. In 1986, she stood atop a low hill with the Chairman Mr. Ho, to select the site where its Yantian factory now stands. In 1999, just after the company’s Fenggang production site came into operation, Mr. Ho commissioned Ms. Yiu to work on a production “7 Stars” order for a customer. Despite the tight delivery timeframe, she worked frenetically in unison with her colleagues. In those days, staff cohesiveness was pronounced and workers felt a strong sense of belonging to the factory. Episodes such as this remain vividly in her mind. Recalling her pioneering days, she is filled with memories of the hardship experienced. Compared to the past, the factory site is now comprehensively equipped with various facilities but such a transformation has not come by easily, but through plenty of hardship and challenges, she reckons.

Moved by the Company’s Human Touch Ms. Deng Xueqiong

Ms. Deng Xueqiong (“Ms. Deng”) has joined Karrie for 30 years. She was one of the first employees to enter the Group during its Yantian period. As a native Yantian, she still worked hard. She has been promoted from being an assembly line team leader to Senior Manager of the Group’s Metal Stamping and Surface Treatment Business Unit, a position she holds today. Ms. Deng is a witness to the changing eras at Karrie. Through these years, she is most grateful to Karrie for its human touch and the care and concern it lavishes on its staff. When

she got married, the Chairman Mr. Ho and his wife Mrs. Ho personally presented her with gifts of jewellery. She treasures their wedding presents so much that she keeps them under lock and key and have never worn the jewellery until today. Back then, Karrie mobilized its vehicles to help her fetch her guests and arranged to record her wedding ceremony on video and photographs, chronicling the happy memories on her big day. Karrie’s care and concern for its staff is a major reason for Ms. Deng to believe she has made the right career choice by joining Karrie.

务实幹练呂志愚先生

呂志愚先生(「呂先生」),入職嘉利16年, 自入職

以來,不斷超越自己,虛心好學,屢升至高級機械

工程經理職位。呂先生表示公司在工程設計方面給

予工程部很大彈性及自主,讓工程人員大膽發揮,

團隊配合度高。由昔日客戶提供圖紙製造的時代,

至今日工程團隊直接參與客戶產品前期設計及提供

繪圖給客戶,足見公司及工程團隊整體能力的提升

及突破。

呂先生行事務實,絕不會矯飾,面對失誤能轉化為

鞭策,認真檢討,緊隨集團發展方向及步伐,認真

地做好每一項任務。在共事者眼中呂先生能接受超

級壓力,他卻原來只以平常心面對壓力,默默勤奮

地敬業工作。

呂先生最開心的一句話是「在生產綫上看到自己設

計的產品一個接一個地跑過去,就像看到自己蹦蹦

跳跳的孩子一樣開心!」可見其一片赤誠。

再攀高峰宋國丑先生

宋國丑先生(「宋先生」),裝配伺服器廠經理,

曾於某大型台資企業任職16年,彼入職嘉利不足

一年,建立產線對應公司重要項目至今,親身經

驗了「三四五」- 自己產線的產能翻了近「三倍」;

「四天」時間快速組建新的流水綫;「五星期」完

成十萬台產品的歷史記錄。嘉利生產爆炸力震撼了

客戶,皆因嘉利全面引入精益生產、運作流程完

善、方式靈活、上下團結一心、溝通流暢及工作

效率高。宋先生最後激慨地表示在嘉利工作的短

短期間,已破了他以往任職的生產記錄,親身領

會了嘉利「凡事皆可能」之真諦。

A Seasoned, Pragmatic Professional

Mr. Elvis Lui Chi Yu

Mr. Elvis Lui Chi Yu (“Mr. Lui”) has been employed by Karrie for 16 years. Since entering the company’s service, he has been striving to surpass himself and learned as much as he could. Because of these attributes, he has been promoted to the position of Senior Mechanical Engineering Manager. According to his expression, the company has offered the Engineering Department extensive work flexibility and autonomy, where its engineers are able to exercise their talents uninhibitedly while working cohesively with each other as a closely-knit team. In the past, customers used to provide the engineering team with their own ready-made blueprints. But now, the team is directly involved in pre-production development design and supplies its customers with production blueprints, testifying to the strategic leaps an breakthroughs in its overall abilities.

As a pragmatic person, Mr. Lui never puts up any pretenses and when faced with failings, he is able to transmute them into lessons and a force compelling him to do better. He also reviews his work meticulously and seriously. Following the Group’s development pace and direction, he attempts his utmost in every assignment he takes responsibility for. While others see him as a colleague who can withstand tremendous pressure, Mr. Lui takes the stress with equanimity as he silently and diligently accomplishes the work on hand.

Mr. Lui’s satisfaction with his work is evident in what he once said: “Being able to see the products I personally designed jumping off the assembly line is like the happiness of seeing one’s own children jumping around joyfully!”

Scaling New Heights

Mr. Song Guochou Mr. Song Guochou (“Mr. Song”) Manager

of Assembly and Server Business

Unit, was once employed with a large

Taiwanese-financed firm for 16 years.

Having joined Karrie for less than a year,

he has built an important production

line for the company’s projects, gaining a

“3-4-5” experience in this process. This

refers to a 3-fold increase in production

capacity for the assembly line; the 4-day

period in which he built the entire facility

with great speed and the “5 weeks” it

took him to achieve the historic record

of completing the production of 100,000

units. Leaving its customers stunned, Karrie’s amazing

growth in production capacity can be attributed to

the lean production model it ushered in, the smooth

operation flow it put in place and the efforts of all

employees working in unison to achieve unhindered

communication and high work efficiency. Mr. Song was

visibly moved when he recounted how the production

records in his past career were shattered within a short

period of his employment with Karrie. This enabled him

to experience the company’s “Nothing is impossible”

slogan being put to action.

閉木嬌小姐

閉木嬌小姐(「閉小姐」),廠務部文員,入職嘉利5

年,不幸從小便患上小兒麻痺症,可是她並沒有放

棄,全神貫注地工作,終能為自己開拓成功之路;

閉小姐2015年被評為全國五一勞動模範,實屬難

能可貴,為嘉利爭取榮譽。此外,閉小姐還樂於助

人,積極參與公益事務,望能幫助更多有需要的人

仕。她表示嘉利選人唯才是用,有能者居之,其不

歧視的人事政策,使她在嘉利有很大的空間發展,

得以展翅。她欣喜地分享在嘉利工作期間獲得了多

項榮譽外,更有了自己下一代,組織了小康之家。

有志竟成

龍國宏先生

市場部的龍國宏先生(「龍先生」),2006年至2011

年間曾先後任職國內廠多個部門基層員工,由於個

人努力學習,英語根基良好,經多年細心思量後,

確立市場部工作為自己未來發展路向;憑著一股熱

誠及勇氣,毛遂自薦地寫了封英文函件給市場部及

人力資源部管理層,並希望能在充滿挑戰的市場

部發展。雖原來的工作跟市場部的工作風馬牛不相

及,仍被接獲面試,最終如願被調入市場部,成為

市場部國內梯隊人才之一,跟進國際知名客戶項

目,實感殊榮。龍先生認為只要有幹勁及能力,嘉

利定會給予一展所長的機會。

The Ful lest Expression of Employee TalentsMs. Bi Mujiao

Ms. Bi Mujiao (“Ms. Bi”), clerk of

Administration Department, has been

employed at Karrie for five years.

Though inflicted with poliomyelitis since

childhood, she has never given up.

Instead, she focuses wholeheartedly on

her work to build a successful career.

For the 1st May Intemational Labour

Day nation-wide celebrations in 2015,

she was picked as an exemplary worker

representing Karrie. In addition, Ms.

Bi is involved in community work and

hopes it will enable her to help more needy individuals.

Praising Karrie for its non-discriminatory recruitment

policies, she said the company’s employees are hired

based on merit. In Karrie, she has been given ample

opportunities to exercise her abilities and talent. Besides

winning many occupational honours, Ms. Bi also has

raised a small family with children.

Persistence Pays Off

Mr. Long Guohong

Mr. Long Guohong (“Mr. Long”) of the

Group’s Marketing Department was a junior

worker with several Mainland Chinese factories

from 2006 to 2011. Owing to his diligent

learning, supplemented with a sound grasp of

the English language, he decided to switch to a

marketing role for his future career path after

his years’ careful consideration. Motivated by

his own enthusiasm and courage, he wrote an

English letter to the company’s Marketing and

Human Resources Department, recommending

himself to work there. Although his original

career background was vastly different

from the role he sought to fill, he was still offered

the opportunity for a job interview. Finally, he was

successfully transferred, as he wished, to the Marketing

Department to become a member of its mainland China

team. In this new role, he is responsible for following up

on the projects of the Group’s internationally renowned

clients. This has given him a great sense of pride. Mr.

Long feels that as long as employees have the drive and

ability, they should be given the opportunities to prove

their worth.

陳海麒先生

陳海麒先生(「Anthony」),2013年加入滿屋世

界任職產品設計師,當時適逢嘉利打造滿屋世界

自家品牌,並開展原始設計製造(ODM)的家居

及餐飲配食產品,與集團的塑膠業務產生協同效

應。Anthony憑藉赤子之心,努力不懈,在不足兩

年間躍升至產品設計及工程經理職務,是熱血創新

世代的例證。

具備創新思維的何主席向來醉心於產品設計開發,

很欣賞Anthony的設計,自始相互交流開發出無數

創新又實用的產品。特別在設計環保「魔法甜品

球」的甜品容器以取代無實用的包裝紙時,曾多次

反覆研究、分析、修改、討論各種設計方案,才能

完成大受歡迎的「甜品球」。彼從孤身作戰擴展至

逐漸成熟的五人的設計團隊,能夠得以完成每一項

產品設計,皆由團隊的創意及活力。Anthony深切

感受到嘉利的容納性,給予年青人發揮的機會,並

Young Innovator

Mr. Anthony Chan Hoi Ki

Mr. Anthony Chan Hoi Ki (“Anthony”) joined Fullhouse World in 2013 as a product designer. That was when Karrie started creating its own brand Fullhouse World to manufacture home living and food and beverage items on an ODM basis in synergy with the Group’s plastics business. Through hard work, coupled with a straightforward and guideless attitude, Anthony worked his way up to become the Group’s product design and

engineering manager. He is also a success story from the younger generation reputed for its passion and innovation.

The Chairman Mr. Ho, who is always brimming with new ideas and passionate towards product design and development, admires Anthony’s design work and the two have since exchanged ideas resulting in numerous innovative and practical products. For the design of an ecologically friendly dessert receptacle to replace purely decorative paper packaging, they have repeatedly researched, analyzed, modified and discussed various design solutions. The hard work has culminated in the launch of the “magic dessert ball.” From a one-man band, Anthony is now in charge of a five-member design team and every product design undertaken is the team’s collective creation and vitality.

Anthony is thankful to Karrie’s for its receptiveness and the opportunities it offers young people like himself to express their talents and for his team to carry out innovations boldly. These opportunities are not always available in every organization, he concludes.

今年為嘉利三十五周年紀念,稱為「珊瑚禧」,紅珊

瑚被視為祥瑞幸福之物,予人高貴永恆的象徵,極具

價值。嘉利如紅珊瑚般之瑰寶,皆因嘉利的價值乃善

於運用資源及與持份者維繫深厚關係從而創造。其主

要可持續發展的框架為建設社區、關懷員工、企業管

治、培訓發展、環境保護及使命傳承。

嘉利每年自願公布《可持續發展報告書》於年報內

概覽其在社會責任的工作,且於2008/09年始的年報

內,以獨立章節的形式刊發;2013/14年度更參照全

球報告倡議組織(Global Reporting Initiative, GRI)的

《可持續發展報告指南》之標準作編寫可持續發展報

告,同時已經獨立認證並達至全球報告倡議組織C+

應用等級,以表明嘉利對社會責任的承擔。

企業應透過尊重道德價值、法律、個人、社區及自然

環境的途徑來追求利潤之餘,並須考慮各持份者的利

益。嘉利已把企業社會責任植入管理模式和長遠企業

使命之一,故能「取於斯,用於斯」,嘉利才得以持

續發展及衍生更高價值。

This year coincides with the celebration of Karrie’s 35th anniversary, also known as the “Coral Anniversary”. Red coral is traditionally seen as an auspicious artifact and a symbol of sophistication and timelessness. As with red coral, Karrie is as much treasured by its stakeholders and its value lies in the company’s ability to use resources productively and efficiently. Another facet of this value is founded on the strong, in-depth relationship built with its stakeholders. The dimensions of the Group’s sustainability framework include caring for the community, caring for the employees, corporate governance, training and development, environmental protection and succession of mission.

Every year, Karrie willingly announces the social responsibility work it has undertaken through the Sustainability Report published within its annual report. Starting with its 2008/09 annual report, the Group’s Sustainability Report has been published in an independent chapter. In 2013/14, it has complied with the guidelines of the Global Reporting Initiative (“GRI”), to draft its sustainability report. Concurrently, it has been independently accredited, with the GRI application level C+ attained, demonstrating the social responsibility commitment undertaken by Karrie.

Enterprises should respect ethical values, the law, individuals, the community and the natural environment in the pursuit of profit. Apart from this, they should also consider the interests of their various stakeholders. Karrie has integrated its corporate social responsibility into its management model and one of its long-term missions. By paying back society from which it has benefited, Karrie has been enabled to engage in sustainable development and contribute higher value to those it is associated with.

集團一直熱心推動企業社會責任,多年來捐資助學不遺餘力,先後發動全體員工捐建了多所希望小學、捐助貧困山區學童教

育。2005年正式成立「社會公益活動小組」鼓勵及組織員工參與社會公益服務及關愛有需要的弱勢社群。於2011年獲香港生產力促

進局頒發「香港傑出企業公民優異獎」,並於2015年獲得香港社會服務聯會頒發連續10年「商界展關懷」標誌,以肯定集團對社會

作出的貢獻;國內工會辦、黨支部等亦組織義工隊舉辦各項社會公益活動。

The Group has been keen to promote corporate social responsibility and spared no effort to donate for charity and education over the years. It organized its staff to donate to the building of the Hope Project primary schools and donate for the education of children living in distressed mountain areas. We established a “volunteer group for charitable works” in 2005 to encourage employees to participate in social welfare services and care for underprivileged groups. Karrie was granted the “Hong Kong Corporate Citizenship Awards – Excellent Award” in 2011 by the Hong Kong Productivity Council and was granted the “Caring Company” logo for 10 consecutive years by the Hong Kong Council of Social Service, in recognition of the contribution made by the Group to the society. Other entities including staff association and party branch also organize volunteer teams to take part in various social welfare activities.

聖基道兒童院及嘉利合辦的「嘉利凡事皆可能」計劃逾十年,培養兒童堅毅不屈的精

神及鬥志。2014年新增的「傑出人物選舉」更廣受媒體報導,把「凡事皆可能」的精

神傳揚社區。

For more than ten years, St. Christopher’s Home and the Group has co-organized “Nothing is Impossible” to strengthen the children’s endurance and determination to succeed. The “Vote for the Brilliant Figures” activity newly held in 2014 attracted extensive media coverage, which help spreading the “Nothing is Impossible” spirit in the community.

We sponsored the fund raising event of Refugee Film Festival held by the United Nations High Commissioner Refugees.

In the early dates when Yantian plant was first built, there were not enough local schools. The “Karrie Kindergarten” which was opened in 1997 carries the critical mission and has cultivated countless children of employees.

The Company has an established corporate governance structure which places importance on labour, occupational health and safety, environmental protection, management systems and ethics. Honesty, fairness and integrity are the Karrie’s core values. Employees are not allowed to abuse power. Information about the Group is timely released. Karrie’s annual reports disclose information in a comprehensive way. On top of statutory shareholders’ meetings, investor tea-break sessions have been held to enhance communication transparency. In addition to the risk management process which is carried out by the internal audit department, outside agencies are also commissioned to conduct risk assessment. The Group upholds high transparency in corporate governance, which has gained public recognition as evidenced by the many awards received by the Group over the years.

嘉利已將電子行業行為準則導入公司管理系統,本公司不少世界級重要客戶均是電子行業公民聯盟(「EICC」)成員。EICC的目標

是為了改善電子行業中的工作環境以及工作條件,同時,實施EICC可以為供應商帶來可見及可評估的收益,當中包括產能和質量

的提升以及減少員工流失率、工傷事故和職業疾病等。該準則中羅列了實踐企業社會責任時,在行為表現、符合性、審核和報告時

所需的要求,當中由五部分組成,包括勞工、職業安全健康、環保、商業道德及管理體系等範疇。

Adoption of high standards of the code of conductKarrie has adopted the Electronic Industry Code of Conduct of the EICC in its management system. Many of the Company’s large world-class clients are members of the Electronic Industry Citizenship Coalition (“EICC”). The EICC’s goal is to improve the work environment and working conditions of the electronics industry. The implementation of the EICC can bring notable and assessable benefits for suppliers, including improved productivity and quality and reduced staff turnover, workplace accidents and occupational diseases etc. The guidelines set out the requirements in terms of behavior, compliance, audit and reporting in the practice of corporate social responsibilities; and consist of five aspects, namely labour, occupational health and safety, environmental protection, business ethics and management systems.

除法定股東會外,為加強與股東溝通,集團更於2004年首次舉辦「與個人投資者茶敘」,以輕鬆形式與投資者

交流溝通。

On top of statutory shareholders’ meetings, in order to strengthen the communication with shareholders, the Group held the first tea break sessions with individual investors in 2004, creating a way to communicate with investors in a relaxed atmosphere.

We are delighted to present the Group’s Coral Anniversary

commemorative publication.

Editing this publication has brought with it mixed sentiments

ranging from ease to defeat and joy. During its initial preparation,

the Chairman Mr. Ho expressed his preference for the ladybug

radio he created 39 years ago to be the “protagonist”. With

the prompt decision made for a clearly defined theme to be

used, this editor was filled with glee over the promise of an

“extremely easy” start.

But on deeper reflection, I started panicking. Established for

35 years, the Group has experienced multiple ups and downs

and transformations and it is necessary to put across the great

velocity and speed of how events occurred during this period. In

addition, the Group’s push for automated production over many

years has brought visible success and showcasing our robust

technology and strengths will be inevitable. But writing about

technology and everything it entails is not my strength and I

realize that integrating these matters with the ladybug theme is

a task of “extreme difficulty,”

Fortunately, our editorial team had racked its brains hard

enough to come up with a “wind, forest, fire, mountain” theme,

taken from the “Military Combat” chapter of Sunzi’s classic

“The Art of War.” This enabled us to integrate the ladybug’s

characteristics and spirit with the different chapters of this

publication, to present the vital perspectives about our Group.

Gaining a full understanding of the numerous breakthroughs in

the Group’s automation technology initiatives, combined with

how it has notched up its soft and hard strengths across the

diverse areas, has inspired pride in us, along with “extreme joy.”

The design for this publication is distinctively Chinese in style,

with a unique cover theme and wide-ranging content, some

quiet and reflective in tone and others filled with dynamism and

passion. This editor is partial to the illustration “Painting the

Future” by Ms. Jane Ho, chief illustrator of Fullhouse World,

for the special meaning it conveys. Karrie relies on everybody

in the Group, regardless of their positions held, and all its

stakeholders to colour its future together. So, let’s act now! It’s

our hope that readers will treasure this publication and browse

through it every now and then to relive the times Karrie has

gone through.

Finally, this editor is thankful to one and all for their well

wishes. I am grateful to the hard work and contributions from

the various members of our Editorial Committee and 35th

Anniversary Organizing Committee. The publishers have done

their utmost to ensure smooth publication, but should there be

any inadvertent omissions or inadequacies, we hope you will

編輯這本特刊,編者歷經了「易極」、「難極」、

「喜極」。籌備之初,何主席鍾情以他創立於三

十九年前的甲蟲收音機為「主角」, 筆者為能快

速定下鮮明主題而暗自歡喜 ─「易極」。

深思下開始惶恐,企業成立三十五周年,歷經無

數風浪與蛻變,要展示的事物應具備雷霆萬鈞之

勢;再者,集團多年來積極推行生產自動化成績

有目共賭,展示我們強大技術力量免不了,技術

範疇更正是筆者弱項,這些事如何與甲蟲融滙貫

通 ─「難極」! 

幸得團隊窮極腦袋,擷取《孫子兵法‧軍爭篇》

「風林火山」要領,融滙甲蟲特徵及精神,貫穿

於特刊不同章節把集團重要元素展示大家眼前。

加上其它管理層耐性指導,使編者於編輯這本特

刊之同時,充份了解到集團自動化技術力量這數

年取得了無數突破,多方軟硬實力更上一層感到

自豪,確是令人欣喜雀躍 ─「喜極」。
