Dear members,

Happy New Year to you all and I hope the year 2015 will bring you luck and prosperity.

The past 6 months have been challenging. I have met and held discussions with many people - politicians, key community leaders, staff employees, Cantonese Group Leaders and members.

As a result, I now have a better understanding of ACCA’s business operations and what needs to be done going forward.

My strategy for 2015 is to embark on a journey to make ACCA a better and stronger organisation, specifically • ACCA’s strategic direction, source of

funding, services and growth (top priority)

• New funding model for group activities (in progress)

• Member benefits (in progress)• Salary sacrificing for staff members• Periodical meetings with the Cantonese

group Leaders and ACCA Council members.

What have been some of the achievements, activities and notable events over the past 5 months?External engagement • Submission and acceptance by the

Governor of NSW as ACCA’s new patron• Consul General visits • Politicians – Local, State and Federal,

including discussions to voice concerns e.g. Anti-Discrimination Act, derogatory remarks made by Senator Clive Palmer

We are currently in the process of preparing for the Chinese New Year banquet on 27th February 2015. The dinner will also mark ACCA’s 40th Anniversary. The NSW’s Premiers office has notified that the Hon

Mr Mike Baird and his wife will attend the dinner.

To mark ACCA’s 40th Anniversary, work is underway to publish an anniversary book. Past Presidents and others have been invited to contribute articles to the anniversary book.

Due to heavy work commitments, Ms Shirley Chan announced her resignation as Chair of ACCA’s Services Subcommittee on 20th January 2015. In the interim, I have assumed the Chair. To assist me, Mr Peter Chan and Mr Fan Chun-Wing have accepted my invitation to be members of ACCA’s Services Subcommittee.

Peter’s credential and capabilities are well known, particularly in the areas of corporate strategy, executive management decision making and marketing. Mr Fan has been a Social Worker by training with extensive experiences in the areas of disability, migrant services, aged care and children services both in Sydney and Hong Kong. He has associated with ACCA since 1980s as a volunteer and had served the community service subcommittee for many years. Currently he works for the NSW Family and Community Services as Principal Business Analyst.

I would like to thank all staff employees, Board members, ACCA Council members, volunteers and friends for the support given to me over the past 6 months in my capacity as President. Special mention must also go to Mr Kwok Hung Chan (Western), Mr Francis Poon, Mr Henry Chiu, Mr K K Lau and Mr Wong Sai Tak (Northern) and Mr Ching Ho (City) for their hospitality, ideas, and counsel.

Last but not least, the efforts of the Chinese Language School Principal Mr Phil Xu and his band of dedicated teachers are acknowledged. It is so rewarding to see so many students from the school receiving merit awards year after year.

我們現正在籌辦將在2015年2月27日舉辦的新年聯歡晚宴。晚宴將同時慶祝澳華公會40週年。已接獲新州省長辦公室的通知，省長尊敬的邁克•貝爾德議員伉儷將參加晚宴。

為紀念澳華公會成立40週年，正在籌備出版週年特刊。已邀請前會長及各界人士為特刊撰文。

鑒於工作繁重，陳麗紅女士於2015年1月20日宣佈辭去澳華公會服務小組委員會主席一職。在此期間，由我接管該職位。陳桂昌先生與范鎮榮先生應我邀請加入澳華公會服務小組委員會，以協助我的工作。

陳桂昌先生的信譽與能力眾所周知，尤其在公司策略、執行管理決策及市場營銷領域。范先生原來是一位社工，在悉尼和香港有殘障、移民服務、高齡服務、兒童服務等多方面的豐富經驗。他在1980年代曾在澳華公會擔任義工，並為社區服務小組委員會提供過多年服務。他目前在新州家庭及社區服務部擔任主管經營分析師。

身為會長，我借此機會想向所有職員、董事、監察委員、義工及各界友人，為過去6個月對我的支持表示感謝。特別要提及陳國鏗先生（西區中心）、潘志藝先生、趙洽先生、劉國球和黃世德先生（北區中心）及何正钧先生（總部）的熱情、理念與建議。

最後，中文學校校長徐永耀先生以及敬業教師們的努力值得認可，每年多位學生獲得優秀獎是其意義的體現。

My name is Adrian Wong and I have lived in Cabramatta all of my life. I graduated in Law and Economics at the University of New South Wales. I currently work as an Adviser and Campaign Manager at the Parliament of Australia. For the past six years, I have also volunteered as the Secretary on the Board of the Cabramatta

Community Centre and the Fairfield Migrant Resource Centre, which are two large welfare organisations in Western Sydney.

I am hoping to apply my knowledge and experiences to ACCA, so that we can continue ACCA’s long and proud history of serving the Chinese community for another 40 years to come. I can speak fluently in both Cantonese and Chaozhou dialect and during the last holidays, I spent two months travelling around China. I am also a fan of the South Sydney Rabbitohs Football Club.

我叫黃冠勳，住在Cabramatta。新南威爾士大學法學和經濟學系畢業。我目前在澳大利亞議會擔任顧問和競選負責人。我在過去六年，義務擔任西悉尼的兩間大公益組織，Cabramatta社區中心和Fairfield移民資源中心的董事會秘書。

我希望能將我的知識和經驗用於澳華公會，使我們能將澳華公會服務華人社區悠久而光榮的歷史再延續40年。我能說流利的廣東話和潮州方言，並在 上 次 假 期 中 用 兩 個 月 旅 遊 中 國 各地。我也是南悉尼Rabbitohs足球俱樂部的粉絲。

My name is Anne Kan. I was born in Indonesia. I am married and have three adult children and three grandchildren.

I came to Australia in 1964 as a student

and completed my tertiary education at University of NSW with a Bachelor of Science and a Diploma in Education. I left Australia in 1970 to be married and returned back in 1972 after teaching in Hong Kong for one year.

I have been a full time high school science teacher in Australia since 1974 with a few years break in between to raise my three children. I retired from full time teaching at Burwood Girls High in 2000 and have been a casual science teacher since; mainly in Ashfield Boys High until the end of 2013.

I can speak Mandarin, Cantonese, Indonesian, Hakka and understand about 50-60% of Shanghainese. I can also read and write Chinese.

I have the honour to join the Board of Directors of ACCA recently. I hope to contribute my service in helping ACCA.

我叫李英潔，生於印度尼西亞。我已婚並有三個成年的子女和三個孫子孫女。

我1964年來到澳大利亞讀書，並在新南威爾士大學完成大專教育，具科學學士和教育學位。於1970年因結婚離開澳洲，在香港教書一年後於1972年回來。

自1974年起我在澳洲擔任全職高中科學教師，為撫養我的三個孩子期間中斷數年後在Burwood女子高中擔任全職教師至2000年，之後主要在Ash-field的男子高中擔任臨時的科學老師至2013年末。

我能說普通話、廣東話、印尼話、客家話及能懂50-60%的上海話，也能讀寫中文。

我很榮幸最近加入澳華公會董事會，希望能以我的服務來協助澳華公會。

The year 2014 has been a year that witnessed a number of changes on several fronts. In January 2014, ACCA became a Company Limited by Guarantee. It has been 40 years since ACCA’s inauguration on 7 July 1974. The change to be incorporated is a positive move for the continuous growth of ACCA.

In September 2014, on behalf of ACCA and with the generous support of the Sydney Chinese Consulate, I had the pleasure of attending the International Service Organisation Workshop held in Nanjing. More than 40 participants attended representing countries including USA, Canada and New Zealand. We shared our experiences of services in support of the Chinese communities. It is apparent that there is always room for improvement. This is exactly what we aim to do – improve the organisation to meet the changing needs of the community and to provide better service.

Our Parramatta Centre will soon see the installation of a lift, a much welcome facility for our elderly and funded partly by a grant from the state government.

2014 also marks the start of the journey for our new patron His Excellency General The Honourable David Hurley AC DSC (Ret’d), Governor General of NSW replacing our long standing patron Professor the Honourable Dame Marie Bashir AD CVO who retired following many years of outstanding service to the people of NSW. We look forward to many years of association with our new patron.

The Year of the Wooden Sheep is just around the corner with the annual ACCA Chinese New Year Banquet coming up in February 2015. Many believe 2015 shall be a more stable year. From the Secretary’s desk, I certainly believe the Board will take full advantage of the newly gained confidence the new year brings and we will provide even better service to the community that we represent.

秘書報告在2014年中見證諸多變化。2014年1月，澳華公會已成為擔保有限公司。公會自1974年7月7日成立以來已有40年，此積極的改變將可促進公會的成長。

2014年9月，承蒙中國駐悉尼領事館的 支 持 ， 我 很 榮 幸 代 表 澳 華 公 會 出席 于 南 京 舉 行 的 國 際 服 務 組 織 研 討會。40多位代表出席此次研討會，包括來自美國、加拿大和新西蘭等國家，分享服務華人社區的經驗。提升社區服務是我們的目標，我們的機構將不斷改進以滿足社區需要的變化，並提供更好的服務。

梯，此設備將受到長者們的歡迎，部分資金由省政府撥款資助。

2014年也標誌著我們與新贊助者合作旅程的開始。新州總督尊敬的David

羊年即將到來，與此同時澳華公會每年一度的新年聯歡晚宴也將於2015年2月舉行。堅信2015將是更穩定的一年。以秘書的角度，我確信董事會將全力以赴，以對新一年的信心，為我們代表的社區提供更優質的服務！

我很榮幸報告澳華公會截止於2014年7月30日又是成功的一年。在財務方面，我們達成原預算兩倍15萬元的良好盈餘。此成績的實現來自家居服務補充撥款的成功申請、非核心業務收入的增加、效率的提升和一般費用的節約。

我們的服務部門持續為客戶提供高質量的社區服務，包括由聯邦社會服務部和新州家庭和社區服務部資助之家居服務、家居及社區照顧服務和全國暫緩照顧計劃服務。我們持續收到來自客戶的感謝信，服務人員的傑出努力應受到讚揚。

來 自 高 齡 服 務 改 革 的 重 要 變 化 將 於2015年7月推出，包括家居服務必須

在 此 我 想 感 謝 我 們 的 董 事 、 監 察 委員、志願者、贊助商、會員和員工再次的貢獻，使2014又成為一個成功的一年。

General Manager’s Report

I am very pleased to report that the period ended 30 June 2014 has again been a very successful year. Financially, we achieved a healthy surplus of $150,000 which was about twice our budget. This was achieved through successful Home Care supplementary funding applications, increase in revenue from non-core activities, efficiency improvements, and general cost savings.

Our Service Department continues to provide the highest quality of community services for our clients including those with the Home Care Packages, the Home and Community Care Program (HACC) and the National Respite for Carers Program (NRCP) funded by the Commonwealth Department of Social Services and the NSW Department of Family and Community Services. We continue to receive thank you letters from our clients and the service staff are to be congratulated for their outstanding efforts.

Major changes from the aged care reform will be introduced in July 2015 including the Home Care program where services will have to be provided on a Consumer Directed Care basis, and the consolidation of HACC and NRCP under the new Commonwealth Home Support Program. Our service staff have undergone training and are preparing for the implementation of the new service delivery models.

In addition, we continue to improve our operational quality and efficiency through our Continuous Improvement process. One of the major improvements is going to be the installation of a new lift in our Western Centre to facilitate the service delivery. Partial funding from the government has been obtained and the installation will proceed early next year. Frail and elderly clients and members of our community will be able to attend workshops, seminars and access other services on the first floor. It will also allow us to expand our service capacity as more

than 100 clients can be accommodated on the first floor of the centre at each time.

I would like to thank our Board of Directors, Council members, volunteers, sponsors, members and staff who have again contributed so much to make 2014 another successful year.

The school has achieved many accolades this year, notably the following:

• In September, students of our school, Abby Shen and Maximillian Zhao, won the 2014 NSW Minister’s Awards for Excellence in Student Achievement Commended Award respectively in the Senior and Junior Sections. Our students have consistent won these awards for many years. I am proud of their success.

• In December, another student, Rosanna Lee won the 2014 City of Ryde Excellence Award. Rosanna was presented the certificate and prize by Clr Justin Li of City of Ryde.

• The school and the Parents’ Club successfully organised the Teachers’ Day Card Design Competition for junior students in September; and the Presentation Day Program Cover Design Competition for senior students in December.

• On 6 December, the 2014 Awards Presentation Day was held. President Felix Lam, Director Minxian Huang and Anne Kan attended the event. Mr John Alexander, Federal MP for Bennelong; Clr Justin Li of City of Ryde (representing Mayor Bill Pickering); and Mr Tony Tang, President of Ryde Community Forum were also present.

• Enrolment for 2015 has started. We have already received a large number of enrolments. We hope to enrol a higher number of students than the previous year.

今年中文學校受到各方面的讚譽，主要如下：

• 在今年9月，我們學校的沈奕和趙崛淵兩位同學贏得了2014年紐省教育廳長高年級組和低年級組的優秀學生獎。本校學生多年來連續獲得此獎。我為他們的成功感到自豪！

• 在今年12月，我們學校的李浩宜同學獲得了2014年Ryde市優秀學生獎。由Ryde市議員李穎斌頒獎。

• 學校和學校家長會成功組織了九月份為低年級學生組織的教師節賀卡設計比賽，和十二月為高年級學生組 織 的 頒 獎 禮 程 序 表 封 面 設 計 比賽。

• 12月6日，我們召開了2014年中文學校結業頒獎典禮，會長藍菲立，董事黃敏仙和李英潔出席了頒獎典禮。聯邦Bennelong區議員John Alexander，Ryde市議員李穎斌（代表市長Bill Pickering）和Ryde 社區論壇會長鄧福照也應邀出席。

• 2015年的入學報名工作已經開始。我們已經收到大量的報名。我們希望會收到比上一年更多的學生。

I am delighted to share some of the recent memorable moments in ACCA.

In July and August 2014, we competed in the 4th Australian Golden Talent Cup with a Jiangnan style dance. We cleared the preliminaries and semi-finals to enter the grand final. Video of ‘Willow in June’ dance is available on YouTube and the ACCA website.

In early September, we participated in the Mid-autumn Festival celebrations at Eastwood and Fairfield Council.

In mid-September, we were invited by the Australian Defence Force to perform four dances at their Spring Festival. More than 1,000 officers and their families gave us the warmest applaud. They enjoyed the elegant music, colourful costumes and the fluid motions of the Chinese cultural dances.

On 2 October, we participated in the International Centre of Non-Violence Australian Seminars and took park in a joint performance with 17 countries

to denounce violence. Photos of our performances are published in their journal.

On 18 October, ACCA Dancing Group performed for the 4th time in the Granny Smith Festival held by City of Ryde Council in Eastwood. The participation in these events has made ACCA very well known.

Our constant performances were introduced in English, Cantonese and Mandarin by our excellent MC, Ms Jackie Seow. Many organisations now know ACCA. During the year, we have performed more than 60 times with invitations from local councils, associated organisations, charities, schools, universities, army, etc. We have also performed for the ACCA city and western seniors group.

On 6 November, we were invited again by University of Western Sydney to perform Chinese cultural dances. On 15 November, we assisted PAL Buddhist School at their fundraising event. Our performance in recent months received very good feedbacks. Attracted by our recent successes, Sydney Morning Herald did a “Chinese style” photo shoot of our dances. A special feature was published by the newspaper on 29 November with sharp photos of our dancers. ACCA dance group was highly commended and recognised by the public which enhanced

the reputation of ACCA.

In preparation for our Christmas Party and 2015 Chinese New Year Parade, we had purchased all the required items and are ready for both events. We were awarded a trophy for the 2014 Chinese New Year Parade. We hope to maintain the high standard in 2015.

On 5 December, ACCA Christmas Party was held. Members of our dance group took care of the preparations and decorated venue with sparkling Christmas lights. The food was delicious; the dances were beautiful and seized the attention of our guests. A number of our former Presidents also attended the party and the event was a happy and joyous reunion.

To allow our elderly members to “to learn and have fun”, we have organised three terms of basic computer classes. Our voluntary teachers and assistants are selfless and dedicated. The members learned from and helped each other and were happy to be at ACCA. We will continue to hold basic and intermediate computer classes. We had also organised a photography group for excursions to capture the scenery. The members were excited to participate as it reminded them the good old days.

In November and December, we held three smartphone seminars in Central and Western centres. We will hold additional sessions in March and April 2015. ACCA in keeping up with time and promoting technological knowledge were appreciated by the members. These variety of activities attracted many new members to join ACCA.

We will continue to work according to the needs of our members.

2014年的7月至8月，我們參加了澳洲第四屆達人秀,表演了充滿江南特色的舞蹈。經過初賽、複賽後進入總決賽。從YouTube及我們澳華公會的網站上都可以觀看這次“六月柳”舞蹈的視頻。

9月上旬,我們參與在Eastwood和Fair-field Council舉辦的中秋節慶祝演出。

參與他們舉辦的Spring Festival,表演4個舞蹈,得到1,000多位軍官和他們家屬的熱烈歡迎。他們非常喜愛中國的有著優雅音樂、鮮艷服裝和柔情動作的民族舞蹈。

10月2日我們參加國際反暴力的講座,同時受到另一場由17個國家聯合演出的邀請。我們的舞蹈相片刊登在他們的雜誌上。

10月18日澳華公會舞蹈隊第四次參加Ryde Council於Eastwood舉辦的青蘋果節,使澳華公會遠近聞名。

由於我們不斷的演出,並有優秀的司儀蕭美霞女士用英語、廣東話、普通話介紹澳華公會以及我們的舞蹈，從而使好多不同團體認識我們。在這一年中我們被邀請的演出，來自於各個市政府、兄弟社團、慈善機構、中學大學、軍隊等，共計有60余場的演出，我們還為本會大型的慶祝活動以及中區和西區的高齡組演出。

11月6日我們再次的受到西悉尼大學邀請我們表演中國民族舞蹈以及11月15日晚上幫助PAL Buddhist School籌款

晚會的演出。在這幾個月的演出中,得到非常好的反饋,最近悉尼晨鋒報慕名而來為我們拍攝“中國風”的舞蹈相片,並於11月29日專題刊登我們舞蹈演員的大幅相片及文章。我們的舞蹈隊得到了主流社會的讚揚,這對提升澳華公會的名譽有著很大的正能量。

為了舉辦聖誕晚會以及2015年的新年巡遊,我們已經採購物品,做好了一切的準備工作。在2014年,我們得到了巡遊的獎杯,希望我們再接再厲的保持好成績。

12月5日舉辦澳華公會聖誕晚會，由我們全體舞蹈隊員包辦籌備工作,將會場佈置得燈光熠熠，食物美味可口。五彩繽紛的舞蹈吸引賓客的眼球，多年未見的老會長也光臨了晚會,這是一個快樂、幸福的團圓的盛會。

為了使中老年的會員“老有所學,老有所樂”,我們已經舉辦了三期免費的電腦基礎學習班。我們的老師和助理都是無私奉獻，會員們互相學習幫助，在澳華公會感到高興和快樂。我們會繼續舉辦基礎、中級等電腦學習班。另外還組織了攝影組,到風景優美的地區去采風,組員都很雀躍參與,仿佛回到了年輕的時光。

11月至12月我們在中區和西區已舉辦三次智能手機的知識講座,明年的三月至四月還將繼續舉辦這種講座。澳華公會與時俱進,普及科技知識,得到了會員們極大的歡迎。各種豐富的活動吸引到很多新會員的參加。

只要會員們需要,那就是我們工作的方向。

On 5 May 2014, ACCA Western Seniors Group celebrated its 20th anniversary with a short walkabout within the vicinity of the Sydney Opera House followed by a luncheon attended by over 100 members and supporters at the Tingha Palace Chinese Restaurant in Parramatta.

The Western Seniors Group changed its name from ACCA Western Friendship Group to ACCA Western Seniors Group on 13 March 2014.

The group hosted their Christmas party on 4 December 2014. At the event, the founder and leader of the Western Seniors Group, Mr Kwok Hung Chan,

2014 Western Centre Christmas Party

2014西區中心聖誕聯歡午宴

On Wednesday 3 December 2014, the HACC Aged Day Care Centers, NRCP MingShi Centers and Home Care Services from Western Sydney Areas held a joint Christmas celebration and buffet lunch party at Auburn RSL Club. More than 120 guests attended the function.

The party was held for our elderly clients and their carers and families. Volunteers, staff and ACCA Directors also joined in the celebration.

Party started with the welcome speech from President Felix Lam. The guests were delighted by the beautiful performance from ACCA Dance Group. Everyone had great fun with group games and lucky prize draws. They enjoyed the nice lunch, laughed and chatted together. The party was concluded when Santa Clause came to the party and gave out Christmas presents to all.

2014年12月3日（星期三），澳華公 會 西 區 的 耆 英 日 間 中 心 、 敏 思 日間中心和家居謢理綜合服務在奧本軍人俱樂部聯合舉辦了盛大的聖誕聯歡午宴。超過一百二十人參加了這次活動。參加者包括澳華公會服務客户、照顧者和家人、義工、職員、澳華公會董事。

午 宴 在 會 長 藍 菲 立 的 致 詞 後 拉 開 序幕。活動節目包括澳華公會舞蹈團的精 彩 舞 蹈 表 演 、 集 體 遊 戲 及 幸 運 大抽獎。大家歡聚一堂，享用了豐富的午宴。最後還有聖誕老人派送聖誕禮物。聚會在歡樂的氣氛下圓滿結束，人人盡興而歸。

In the blossoming season of spring, Western Aged Day Care Centre held an outing to the Tramway Museum on 20 October 2014.

The group had morning tea at McDonald en route to the southern suburb of Loftus. At the museum an experienced guide introduced the museum’s collections, including a tram of a century old, a tram for transporting prisoners and other passenger trams.

腊盡春回，姹紫嫣红，正是郊遊好時光。澳華公會西區耆英日間中心，於十月廿日舉辦春季一天遊。清早由西區中心出發，中途於麥當勞快餐店稍作休息。

大約十一時許到達Lof tus電車博物館，館方派來一位資深講解員介紹博物館的展品，包括有超過百年歷史的電車、有專門運載囚犯的電車、與及各種不同的載客電車，讓長者們更了解電車的功能和演變。

長者們逐一上車參觀。繼而由專員駕駛 懷 舊 電 車 ， 乘 載 長 者 們 到 各 站 一遊，每人還獲派發懷舊車票乙張。最後大家拍照留念。回程時每個人都津津樂道。

2014 Moon Festival Luncheon

2014中秋佳節慶祝午宴

On Wednesday 10 September, Staff members and volunteers of the Central and Western Aged Care Centres organised a Moon Festival celebrating luncheon for more than 130 clients at Marigold Restaurant. Community transport was arranged for our clients to join this cultural event.

Many clients had dressed up for the event and a few were in their traditional costumes. They wore big smiles and greeted each other when they arrived at the restaurant. A few individuals and several organisations had contributed abundant gifts to our clients so that each of them received at least one gift at the Luncheon.

Program activities of the day were exciting and entertaining. The proverb game competition was engaging. Participants displayed their wisdom, memory and team spirit. A singer was invited to perform several traditional songs for the seniors. Many participants sang together, waving their hands and swaying to the rhythm of the music. These fun-filled activities, together with beautiful foods

澳華公會中、西區高齡服務中心於9月 10日假座華埠富麗宮酒樓午膳，筵開十多席，職員、義工與百多名長者共同慶祝中秋佳節。各中心安排社區巴士接載有需要的長者出席參加，現場氣氛熱鬧。

很多長者更盛裝出席，互相祝賀中秋快樂，他們喜氣洋洋的笑容，令人有返老還童的感覺。本會獲得多間機構

當天節目豐富，現場的拼合成語字句競猜遊戲更引起長者的積極參與，他們的智慧和記憶力令人驚嘆，得獎者獲得豐富獎品，皆大歡喜。當天本會更邀請到有『澳洲徐小鳳』稱號的馬小姐為長者演唱多首名曲，很多長者也跟隨伴唱, 有些更聞歌拍手擺動，增添無窮的歡樂氣氛。以上節目，加上精美的佳餚美食和壓軸大抽獎，使長者可以共同慶祝和享受一個愉快的中秋節。
