JuliaCHEN Meng Pei

The supportive environment of the Department of Building and Real Estate (BRE), PolyU nurtured my drive for excellence. I truly enjoyed my study in BRE which grounded me a solid foundation to launch my professional career. The exchange programme to the UK enriched my overseas experience. With the guidance of my supervisor from BRE, my final year dissertation was awarded the Best Individual Dissertation of the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (HKIE). Also, I won the national Construction Innovation Competition in Beijing upon my graduation. My active participation in extracurricular activities, such as the English Debate Team and the International School Ambassador

Scheme enabled my all-round development, which in return brought me the honor as the Outstanding Student of both of the Faculty of Construction and Environment and the BRE in 2012.

My graduation in 2013 opened up a new chapter to me. I joined one of the biggest and most challenging project that Hong Kong has undertaken at the XRL West Kowloon Terminus. I was selected as the HKIE President's Protege in 2015 and the Council Member for the Hong Kong Construction Association’s Young Members Society in 2017.

I was awarded the MIT Angela Leong Fellowship, the MIT Leaders for Global Operations (LGO) Fellowship, the HKIE Young Engineers Scholarship, and the LGO Merit Scholarship. With the awards, I currently further my studies in a unique Engineering-MBA dual degree programme at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).

I am grateful that BRE empowered me to be part of the thriving Hong Kong construction scene, and I can’t wait to find out what my next big challenge is!

StevenWONG Ming Chun

Graduated from the Department of Building and Real Estate (BRE) in 2014, I started my career as a project management trainee in Hip Hing Construction Group, one of the leading contractors in Hong Kong.

I am grateful for the all-round training and eye-opening exposure in my 3-year study in BRE. It offered me solid technical knowledge and more importantly, I developed the ‘engineering’ mind-set that is crucial to a professional in the competitive construction industry. On top of the comprehensive courses, a large number of opportunities were provided for my personal growth, for example, study tour, exchange programme, internship, mentorship and industrial conferences, etc. I was offered a place in a one-semester exchange programme in Loughborough University, the UK. This remarkable experience has widened my horizons and further enabled me to be competent in the challenging work environment.

‘Building Engineering’ is a challenging profession. I do believe choosing BRE for a comprehensive study will be a great start if you share the same passion with us to build a better home.
