Located in the heart of downtown L.A.’s Gallery Row, is the Stella Dottir Gallery and retail space. Clara Berta’s ex-hibition, “A History of Passion” opened at the gallery highlighting the district’s efforts to embrace the visual arts andpresent relevant, cross-cultural perspectives that reflect the city’s diverse population.

The show was listed in the LA Weekly and was photographedby Angeleno Magazine. “A History of Passion” was a huge suc-

cess for breakout artist, Clara Berta. Hung in the bohemian, eclectic environment of Stella Dottir’s studio, “A History of Pas-sion” provided an interesting mix of haute couture and fine art.Throngs of visitors packed the gallery to view Berta’s mixedmedia paintings and monoprints. Visitors purchased bothpaintings and dresses while enjoying the crowded yet intimatereception. Influenced by the bacchanalian atmosphere of thesurrounding Gallery Row events, Berta’s opening transportedits guests to what felt like a private party at the home of a sea-soned collector.

 Artist Statement: Clara Berta

My spiritual path contributes to my work,

which I now create from a place of peaceand compassion. For me, art is healing andplays an important role in my entire life, espe-cially since I love interior design. These feelings

are expressed by the lovely English and Zengardens that surround my home.

Since being influenced by the Italian culture, mywork has taken a new direction that I expressby creating textures through adding layers of torn posters, writings and exotic materials thatare recycled into my art. My colors are nowrich and earthy with passionate blues derived

from my love for the ocean. This reflects mydesire to work with eco friendly and recycledfound materials. I especially enjoy painting onfarm wood as part of my zen-like lifestyle.I use rich layers, elements of mixed media, that integrates poetry, photography, print-making and unconventional materials, sometimes incorporating all in a single piece.I paint with passion on canvas and wood panels with a varied palette, lush with vi-brant color. My emphasis is on the rich colors and textures of life and spirituality withsubtle patterns of light and shadow revealing a deep understanding of the human

psyche.”
