Mae’n bleser gennym gyflwyno Adroddiad Blynyddol Corff Llywodraethol Ysgol Mynydd Bychan sy’n unol â gofynion Rheoliadau Adroddiadau Blynyddol Llywodraethwyr Ysgol (Cymru) 2011.

Gobeithio y byddwch chi’n mwynhau darllen am lwyddiannau’r ysgol eleni eto. Mae croeso i chi gysylltu gyda Chadeirydd y Corff Llywodraethol neu’r Pennaeth os hoffech chi drafod rhywbeth yn benodol neu os hoffech chi gael rhagor o wybodaeth ynglŷn ag unrhyw agwedd o’r adroddiad.

Ein rôl fel Llywodraethwyr yw gosod targedau a chyfarwyddid strategol, eang ar gyfer yr ysgol. Rydym yn ffodus iawn i gael staff (sy’n addysgu ac nad ydynt yn addysgu) mor ffyddlon a brwdfrydig, sy'n darparu'r elfen

It is my pleasure and privilege to present this report on another very successful year for Ysgol Mynydd Bychan. Our role as Governors is to set the broad strategic directions and targets for the school, and we are fortunate indeed to have such a loyal and enthusiastic staff (both teaching and non-teaching), who provide that vital element of year-on-year stability and

Fodd bynnag, mae llywodraethwyr yn ymwybodol nad yw addysg i gyd yn ymwneud â thargedau a chanlyniadau. Dysgu yw sail cymdeithas ffyniannus, lle gall pawb gyflawni eu potensial a chyfoethogi eu bywydau. Yn anaml y gellir adennill y cyfleoedd a gollir ar lefel ysgol gynradd, ac felly rydym yn anelu at weld y bechgyn a'r merched yn cyflawni eu llawn potensial ym medrau llythrennedd, rhifedd a chymhwysedd digidol, tra'n disgwyl hefyd i'r medrau hynny gael eu gosod mewn cyd-destun fel allweddi, er enghraifft, i ddeall a mwynhau llenyddiaeth, celf a barddoniaeth. Rhaid inni hefyd sicrhau bod y plant yn datblygu'r gallu i wneud barn foesol a moesegol, ac i gydnabod eu cyfrifoldebau yn ogystal ag ymarfer eu hawliau. Rhaid inni annog a datblygu eu doniau ym myd chwaraeon ac yn greadigol, rhoi cyfle i bob plentyn ddisgleirio ym mha bynnag faes sy'n addas ar gyfer eu galluoedd eu hunain.

Mae'r gwerthoedd hyn yn sail i ddatblygiad parhaus cwricwlwm newydd i Gymru, ac er na fydd hyn yn cael ei weithredu'n llawn tan 2022, mae’r Llywodraethwyr yn awyddus i sicrhau bod yr ysgol yn cymryd y camau angenrheidiol i sicrhau parodrwydd. Yn dilyn deddfwriaeth newydd a basiwyd yn gynharach eleni, mae newidiadau hefyd ar waith o ran darpariaeth ar gyfer disgyblion ag Anghenion Dysgu Ychwanegol, ac yma hefyd bydd y Corff Llywodraethol yn ceisio sicrhau bod yr ysgol yn gallu gwneud yr addasiadau angenrheidiol.

Fel ym mhob rhan o fywyd, rydym yn ymwybodol bod yna gost i ‘newid’, mae'r Llywodraethwyr yn ymwybodol o'r cyfyngiadau cyllidebol y mae'n rhaid inni weithredu arnynt. Yn dilyn wyth mlynedd o rwymedigaeth

development. You will find in subsequent pages details of the many achievements of the past twelve months. Such is the commitment to continuous improvement that it seems no matter how high the targets set, the school always manages to exceed our expectations, as externally recognised in our ongoing “green” categorization.

Governors are, though, mindful that education is not all just about targets and results. Learning is the bedrock of a prosperous society, in which all can fulfil their potential and enrich their lives. Opportunities lost at the primary level can rarely be regained, and we therefore aim to see the boys and girls achieve their full potential in the core skills of literacy, numeracy and digital competence, whilst expecting also for those skills to be placed in context as keys, for example, to understanding and enjoying literature, art and poetry. We must also ensure that the children develop the ability to make moral and ethical judgements, and to recognise their responsibilities as well as to exercise their rights. We must encourage and develop their creative and sporting talents, and give each child the opportunity to shine in whatever field best suits their own particular abilities.

These values underpin the ongoing development of a new curriculum for Wales, and although this will not be fully implemented until 2022, Governors are keen to ensure that the school is taking the necessary steps to ensure preparedness. Following new legislation passed earlier this year, changes are also afoot in regard to provision for pupils with Additional Learning Needs, and here too the Governing Body will be looking to ensure the school is able to make the necessary adjustments.

As in all walks of life, we are conscious that change comes at a cost, and the Governors are mindful of the budgetary constraints under which we have to operate. Following eight years of national austerity, it is sobering to note that our annual budget has fallen in real terms (adjusted for inflation) by some £166,000, compounded also by the need nowadays for schools to fund functions that were previously provided centrally. It is to the credit of our administrative staff, and of course the Senior Leadership Team, that in spite of these pressures we have so far managed to balance

Wrth gyffwrdd â chyllid, hoffwn, fel arfer, dalu teyrnged i waith y Gymdeithas Rhieni wrth gynhyrchu'r incwm ychwanegol sydd wedi ein galluogi i fynd ymlaen â nifer o brosiectau a fyddai fel arall wedi bod yn amhosib ar hyn o bryd.

Ar ran y Corff Llywodraethol, hoffwn ddiolch ichi am ymddiried yn Ysgol Mynydd Bychan i ddarparu addysg i’ch plant. Mae eich barn yn bwysig i ni, ac rydym yn cymryd ymatebion yr holiaduron achlysurol o ddifrif. Nid ydym yn esgus bod gennym unrhyw fonopoli ar syniadau da, ac rydym yn parhau i groesawu awgrymiadau adeiladol a gyflwynir gan y plant sydd yn aelodau o grwpiau llais y disgybl o fewn yr ysgol.

Wrth gloi, hoffwn ddiolch i Emma Goad fel Is-Gadeirydd am ei chefnogaeth a'i chymorth dros y flwyddyn ddiwethaf, ac yn wir, diolch i holl aelodau'r Corff Llywodraethol am eu cyfraniadau gwerthfawr. Mae llawer o waith y corff "y tu ôl i'r llenni" fel petai, ond serch hynny, mae’n hanfodol er mwyn sicrhau ein bod yn cyflawni ein dyletswyddau yn llwyddiannus. the budget each year, albeit for 2018/19 this has only been possible thanks to strict financial prudence over the past couple of years. In touching on finance, by the way, can I as always pay tribute to the work of the PTA in generating the additional income that has enabled us to proceed with a number of projects that would otherwise have been beyond our means.

On behalf of the Governing Body, may I thank you for entrusting the education of your boys and girls to Ysgol Mynydd Bychan. Your views are important to us, and we do take seriously the responses to our occasional survey questionnaires. We do not pretend to have any monopoly on good ideas, and we continue to welcome constructive suggestions put forward by the boys and girls through the School Council.

In closing, may I thank Emma Goad as Vice Chair for her help and support over the past year, and indeed thank all members of the Governing Body for their valued contributions, most of which go on “behind the scenes” but are nonetheless essential to ensuring our duties are fully discharged. Ag amser i’w roi i gyfarfodydd a digwyddiadau eraill pan fo angen;

Beth yn union mae Llywodraethwyr yn ei wneud?

4. Sicrhau bod y cwricwlwm cenedlaethol yn cael ei ddysgu a bod digon o staff ar gael i’w ddysgu

A governor is someone who:- Is a volunteer; Cares about teaching, learning and

children; Represents those people with a key

interest in the school, including parents, staff, the local community and the LEA;

Is part of a team which accepts responsibility for everything a school does;

Has time to commit to meetings and other occasions when needed;

Is willing to learn; Is able to act as a friend who supports

the school but is still able to cast a critical eye upon how the school works and the standard it achieves;

Acts as a link between parents, the local community, the LEA and the school.

The Governing Body meets at least once a term and additional sub-committee meetings are held every term or as necessary. Each governor also has a subject area of interest, and he/she can visit the school or discuss with the teacher subject co-ordinator in order to understand and support the way that subject is taught.

What exactly do Governors do?

1. Agree the aims and values of the school2. Agree policies relating to the aims, purposes

and practices of the school3. Influence and approve the School

Improvement and monitor the allocation and expenditure of the budget

4. Make sure the national curriculum is taught and there is sufficient staff to teach it

5. Monitor and review the school’s progress6. Ensure individual pupils’ needs are met,

including additional needs.

7. Recruitment and Selection of Staff8. Give parents information about the school9. Produce and monitor the yearly School

This school has a strategy which includes corresponding with parents/guardians on a regular basis regarding children’s attendance levels. The school works closely with the Attendance Officer. If the school has a concern over the absence of a pupil, the Attendance Officer will work with the family offering them support and guidance. Our school target for attendance is over 96%.

Fixed Penalty NoticesIn some circumstances, the school may request the Educational Welfare Service to issue parents/carers with a Fixed Penalty Notice under The Education (Penalty Notices) (Wales) Regulations 2013. A warning letter will be sent first if:• There have been 10 unauthorised sessions within one school term;• A child has been late (after registration has closed) on 10 occasions within one school term;• Parents/carers have failed to engage in attempts to improve attendance;• The police have regularly found a pupil to be absent from school without an acceptable reason.

A Fixed Penalty Notice will be issued if:• There is one further unauthorised absence within 15 school days of a warning letter having been issued;•When the school feels that, despite its best efforts to support the family, attendance is not improving, a referral will be made to the Education Welfare Service. Statutory National reading and numeracy tests were taken by all pupils in Years 2 – 6 in all schools across Wales during May 2017. Welsh Reading Test – Years 2 – 6; English Reading Test – Years 4 – 6; Numeracy and Reasoning test – Years 2 – 6. Pupils from Years 2, 3 4, 5 and 6 will sit these tests in May every year. If you would like further information regarding these tests and to see examples of test papers please log onto the following website www.learningwales.gov.uk.The Digital Competency Framework was introduced on a statutory basis to help pupils 5 – 14 years old to develop their digital skills.

The school uses the Incerts tracking system to assess at which Foundation Phase outcome or Curriculum level your child is currently working on. Pupils in Nursery, Reception, Years 1 and 2 are assessed in the six areas of learning within the Foundation Phase; pupils in Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 are assessed in 3 subjects from the 2015 National Curriculum which are Maths, Welsh and English as well as the other 9 Curriculum 2008 subjects. (Details regarding these areas of learning and the Curriculum subjects can be found in the school handbook on our website). The teachers are able thoroughly to assess each child’s standard of work by looking at the

Cyflwynwyd dlws ‘Gwobr y Dderwen’ i’r Ysgol gan deulu Padi Johnson er cof amdano. Roedd y teulu am roi’r rhodd yma i blentyn sy’n gwneud pethau tu hwnt i gwricwlwm yr Ysgol. Rhoddwyd ‘Gwobr y Dderwen’ i Sam Meyrick, Bl 6 am ei agwedd bositif, ei ddyfalbarhad, ei garedigrwydd ac am fod mor foesgar. Gallwn i gyd ddilyn esiampl Sam.

Teachers moderate children’s work so that there is a clear understanding what to expect of a piece of work e.g. what does a level 4 piece of writing or a Foundation Phase outcome 4 for Mathematics or a level 5 concise account of a Science experiment look like? All this daily assessment of the children’s work ensures that we have a clear and true picture of each child’s standard and ability across every subject throughout the academic year.Congratulations to ‘Elai’ House for winning this year’s House Shield.Congratulations to Beth Rhydderch, Year 6 for winning the Performer of the year award. This is awarded to a child who has given much to school life since they started with us in the Nursery.

An award called ‘Gwobr y Dderwen’ which was given to the school by a former pupil’s family, Padi Johnson, in memory of him, is to be given to a child who has accomplished an achievement outside the curriculum. This year it was awarded to Sam Meyrick, Year 6, for his positive attitude, his perseverance, and his kindness and for being so polite. We can all follow Sam’s example.

Mae’r holl weithgareddau allgyrsiol yn rhy niferus i’w henwi i gyd, ond dyma rai uchafbwyntiau. Fe welwch fod yma dystiolaeth i fwrlwm o weithgaredd a brwdfrydedd mawr. Rydyn ni’n falch iawn bod cynifer o

glybiau allgyrsiol yn cael eu cynnal yn yr ysgol. Yn eu plith y mae Pêl Rwyd (Hydref a Gwanwyn), Côr, Rygbi, Pêl Droed, Pêl Fas (Haf), Darllen, Clwb Cyfnod Sylfaen, Clwb Codio, Clwb Dawns, Clwb Heini, Clwb Sgorio a Chlwb Lles. Mae’r plant yn elwa’n fawr a diolch i’n staff ymroddedig a Mr Pascoe, sydd yn helpu gyda’r Clwb Pêl Droed,am eu gwaith.

Extracurricular

The extracurricular activities are too numerous to name them all, but here are some of the highlights. You will see that there is plenty of evidence to show the school’s enthusiasm. We are very proud of the wide range of

extra curricular clubs held at the school. There are clubs for Netball (Autumn and Spring), Choir, Rugby, Baseball (Summer), Football, Reading, Foundation Phase, Coding, Dance, Keep Fit, Sgorio and a Wellbeing. The children benefit immensely and we owe a debt of gratitude to our dedicated staff and Mr Pascoe, who helps with the football club, for their hard work.

The Year 6 leaving show ‘Jungle Book’ was a great success. A huge thank you to all those involved in the tireless preparations for this performance. We hope that the pupils have now settled in

Fe gynhaliodd disgyblion y Feithrin eu gwasanaethau Nadolig eu hun yn neuadd yr ysgol ac mi roeddent yn lwyddiant mawr, ffordd arbennig i ddechrau ddathliadau’r Nadolig.

Bu nifer o ddisgyblion yn llwyddiannus ar wahanol lefelau yng Nghystadlaethau canu a Chelf a Chrefft yr Urdd.

Yn ystod ein Gŵyl Gymreig cynhaliwyd nifer o weithgareddau amrywiol e.e. Cyngerdd hwiangerddi a cherddi gyda phob dosbarth yn cymryd rhan, dathliadau Dydd Gŵyl Dewi, seremoni cadeirio’r bardd, disgo â chaneuon Cymraeg i bawb, gweithdy ar apiau Cymraeg, Diwrnod y Llyfr yn ogystal â nifer o weithgareddau o fewn y dosbarth. Roedd hyn yn ffordd hyfryd o ddathlu ein Cymreictod, ein hetifeddiaeth a’n traddodiadau!

Un o brif ddigwyddiadau’r Wyl Gymreig oedd y seremoni caderio a choroni. Llongyfarchiadau i Iris Maddaford am ennill cystadleuaeth ysgrifennu cerdd Bl 2 ac i Ariel Goncalves Bl 6 am ennill gadair yr Eisteddfod am ysgrifennu ymson.

Fe wnaeth yr ysgol ddathlu pen-blwydd T Llew Jones a Roald Dahl drwy wneud llu o weithgareddau a oedd yn seiliedig ar eu gwaith

Bu plant y Feithrin yn brysur iawn cyn y Nadolig yn lapio anrhegion ar gyfer elusen Woman’s Aid.

Mae’r Pwyllgor Eco, Cyngor Ysgol a’r Pwyllgor Iechyd a Lles wedi hen ennill eu lle yn yr ysgol bellach yn cyfarfod yn gyson i drafod materion sy’n berthnasol iddynt.

Mae disgyblion yr ysgol wedi bod yn gweithio’n galed dros eraill ac wedi codi llawer o arian gyda help eu rhieni tuag at achosion da:- dros £500 ar gyfer elusen yr ysgol yn 2017 / 2018 sef Tenovus, heb sôn am dros £1000 tuag at elusennau eraill fel elusen Rhodri Morgan, Plant mewn Angen, Trwynau Coch, NSPCC ac Ysbyty Felindre.

Christmas Concerts are also an important part of the calendar of all parents and friends of the school. The Nursery classes held their own Christmas Services in the school hall, they were very successful. It was a fantastic start to the Christmas celebrations.

Many pupils were successful in various Urdd, singing and Arts and Crafts competitions.

During our Welsh Week various activities were held to enrich the children’s experiences e.g folk song and poetry concert where every class took part, St David’s Day Celebrations, Chairing of the Bard Ceremony, dancing to Welsh songs in our school disco, a Welsh medium Apps workshop World Book Day celebrations as well as numerous activities within the classroom. This was a great way to celebrate our ‘Welshness’, traditions and heritage!

One of the main events during the Welsh Week was the Chairing and Crowning Ceremony. Congratulations to Iris Maddaford for winning the Year 2 poetry competition and to Ariel Goncalves Yr 6 for winning the Eisteddfod Chair for her soliloquy.

The school celebrated Roald Dahl and T Llew Jones Day by taking part in numerous activities based on their novels and poems.

During the weeks before Christmas the Nursery children were busy wrapping Christmas presents for the Women’s Aid charity.

The Eco Committee, School Council, Health and Wellbeing Committee are an integral part of school life.

All pupils have been working hard during the year supporting various good causes and charities. They have, with the generous support of you their parents, raised over £1000 for our 2017 / 2018 chosen charity Cancer Research and over £1000 for various charities such as Rhodri Morgan’s charity, Children in Need, Red Nose Day, Velindre Cancer Hospital and the NSPCC. Thank you very much.

A lot of fun was had during our multicultural and anti-bullying week. The

Cynhaliwyd hyfforddiant ‘Kerbcraft’, sef diogelwch ffordd gyda Bl 2.

Roedd ymweld â phantomeim a sioeau Cymreig, cymryd rhan yng Ngŵyl Llythrennedd Caerdydd, Tafwyl a Jambori yr Urdd yn sicr yn dangos i’r disgyblion bod modd mwynhau trwy gyfrwng y Gymraeg tu allan i’r ysgol hefyd.

children learnt about the culture and ways of life in various African countries and how it is important to show respect for each other’s cultures and religion.

Many musical instrument lessons are held in the school – keyboard, violin, brass, harp, guitar, drums, flute and voice.

The Year 3 and 4 and Year 5 and 6 book quiz teams competed in the National Welsh Book Quiz Competition.

‘Kerbcraft’ training was held at the school for Yr 2 pupils, dealing with road safety.

Giving the pupils the opportunity to go to see the Welsh medium pantomime and various shows and to take part in the Cardiff Literacy Festival, Tafwyl Festival and the Urdd’s Jambori showed them that it is possible to enjoy themselves through the medium of Welsh outside of school.

Fe dderbyniodd Bl 5 a 6 wersi beicio ar ffordd, lle buont yn dysgu sut i deithio’n ddiogel pan yn seiclo ar yr heol.

Roedd ein mis Iechyd, Ffitrwydd a Lles yn hynod o lwyddiannus. Cafodd y disgyblion y cyfle i gymryd rhan mewn nifer o weithgareddau,

Health and SportsHere is a taste of what’s being going on at the school in the field of health and sports. Many after school sports clubs are held

which is a testament to the staff’s dedication. Teams from the school have taken part in football, netball and rugby matches.

Yr 3 pupils enjoyed swimming lessons. Girls from the school took part in an Urdd

7-a-side Football competition for girls. Pupils took part in Urdd Swimming,

Gymnastic, Rugby, Football, Cricket and Netball competitions.

Years 5 and 6 received ‘on the road’ cycling training. They learnt how to cycle safely on our roads.

Our Health, Fitness and Wellbeing month went very well. The teachers worked hard to plan and prepare lessons and activities for the pupils.

The School Sports Day was again held at the excellent NIAC facility. It was great to see everyone giving 100% effort. Congratulations to Llys Tywi.

Fe aeth Bl 4 ar ymweliad preswyl yng Nghanolfan Gweithgareddau Antur ac Awyr Agored Storey Arms tra bo Bl 5 wedi ymweld a chanolfan Awyr Agored Abercraf. Diolch i’r athrawon am roi eu hamser er mwyn galluogi’r plant i gael y profiadau gwych hyn.

Rydym yn ceisio chwilio am ffyrdd o fanteisio ar gyfleusterau’r ardal leol i gefnogi addysg y plant. Mae’r adeilad a thir yr ysgol yn gyfyng iawn. Rydym eisioes yn defnyddio cae Maindy, pwll nofio Maindy, neuadd chwaraeon Ysgol Cathays a neuaddau chwaraeon Talybont ar gyfer gwersi Ymarfer Corff a chlybiau allgyrsiol.

Llongyfarchiadau i dîm rygbi’r ysgol am eu perfformiad a’r ymdrech a roddwyd gan bob aelod o’r tîm yng nghystadleuaeth Rygbi Tag Gleision Caerdydd.

Mae’r ysgol yn rhan o brosiect ‘Teithiau Iach’. Yn ystod y flwyddyn cynhaliwyd nifer o weithgareddau a oedd yn codi ymwybyddiaeth y plant o deithio mewn ffordd iach. Fe wnaeth y plant, staff a rhieni ymdrech dda i feicio, cerdded neu sgŵtera i’r ysgol yn ystod wythnos.

Arms outdoor adventure centre, while Year 5 visited Abercrave Outdoor Centre. We’d like to thank the teachers for giving their time in order to give pupils these valuable experiences.

We use many of the local facilities to support the pupils’ education. The school building and yard are limited in as far as what we can offer. We are already using Maindy field and swimming pool, Cathays High School sports hall and Talybont Sports halls for Physical Education lessons and extra-curricular activities.

Congratulations to our school rugby team for their performance and fantastic effort in the Cardiff Blues Tag Rugby competition.

The school has been part of the Active Journeys Project. During the year numerous activities were arranged to make the children aware of healthy ways of travelling to school. A good effort was made by children, staff and parents during our Big Pedal week to walk, bike or scooter to school.

Ymweliadau addysgiadolMae’r disgyblion yn cael cyfle i gyfoethogi eu haddysgu y tu allan i’r ystafell ddosbarth wrth fynd ar ymweliadau addysgiadol. Cafodd plant Bl 6 gyfle i fynychu cwrs preswyl yn Llangrannog gyda’r ysgolion eraill sy’n bwydo Glantaf, fel rhan o’r cynllun pontio.

Educational VisitsThe pupils have the opportunity to enrich their education outside the classroom during the various educational visits. This requires some hard work on behalf of teachers, and we would also like to thank parents who volunteer to escort pupils on these visits.

The visits were used to enrich the Curriculum. Pupils from different classes had the chance to visit Amelia Trust Farm, Morrisons, the Mosque, Cardiff Bay, Newport Wetlands, @Bristol, Cardiff Museum, Cathays Cemetery, Caerphilly and Cardiff Castles, Cardiff Wales Airport, Pembrey Country Park, Winding House, Tredegar. The work that arises from these visits is proof of their effectiveness and importance.

Teachers from the primary and secondary schools were responsible for the children, and the pupils enjoyed getting to know the Year 12 officers from Glantaf, who led various activities throughout the week.Year 6 spent five days at either Ysgol Glantaf or Ysgol Bro Edern taking part in games activities, Science and Mathematical activities, a day of cricket at the SWALEC Stadium, watching the musical School of Rock and attending various lessons.Year 6 pupils also enjoyed their fun trip to Pembrey Country park in July, they were able to relax and enjoy each other’s company at the end of their hard working year.

Cynhaliwyd ein Gwasanaethau Nadolig yn Eglwys Highfields

Llwyddiant ysgubol oedd ein lawnsiad Siarter Iaith Cymru. Fe wnaeth y plant wir fwynhau eu helfa drysor ar hyd Heol Eglwys Newydd ac ar iard yr ysgol. Ar yr ail ddydd o’r lawnsiad cawsom gystadleuaeth ‘Bake Off’. Roedd yna wledd o gacennau blasus i’w gweld yn y Neuadd. Cafodd plant Bl 4 llawer o hwyl yng ngweithdy ukeleles gyda Mei Gwynedd. Fe lwyddodd pob disgybl i chwarae ukelele

Community LinksWe are very proud of the excellent links we have with the local community and for the worldwide citizenship awareness. We are indebted to many friends of the

school for giving their time to enrich school life. Mrs Buddug Telford comes to listen to children read.

We held our Christmas Services in Highfields Church.

Our Welsh Language Charter Launch was a huge success. The children really enjoyed the Treasure Hunt along Whitchurch Road and on the school yard. On the second day of our launch we held a ‘Bake Off’ competition. The hall was full of mouth-watering cakes. Both judges – Beca from the TV programme Becws and Laurien from Cocorico Patisserie praised the standard of the baking and presentation. Many congratulations to Tabitha Barbrook Stevens for winning the competition.

Our Children’s Mental Health Week was very worthwhile. Every class discussed and took part in many activities based on the theme ‘Being Ourselves’.

The Foundation Phase and Key Stage 2 pupils sang at Tafwyl Festival in Cardiff Castle.

Pupils in Years 1, 2, 3 and 5 have worked with the artist Rhiannon to create two wonderful pictures.

Year 4 pupils were very fortunate in being able to work with Mei Gwynedd. He taught every pupil to play a ukulele by the end of

Fe ddaeth Chris Harries o gwmni STEM i weithio gyda Bl 6 i gynllunio a chreu car. Mae STEM yn gweithio i sicrhau addysg o safon fyd-eang i bobl ifanc mewn gwyddoniaeth, technoleg, peirianneg a mathemateg.

Cynhaliwyd Diwrnod Ieithoedd Ewropeaidd. Rydyn ni’n croesawu nifer o ymwelwyr

proffesiynol i’r ysgol, yn cynnwys seicolegydd addysg, heddwas yr ysgol, nyrs yr ysgol, y frigâd dân, clerigwyr, swyddogion cyllid a TGCh, swyddog presenoldeb, athrawon ymgynghorol ac athrawon pontio o Lantaf.

Mae Mr Adam Coleman a Mr Emyr James o Fenter Ysgolion Cymraeg Caerdydd yn ymweld â’r ysgol i gynnal gwasanaethau. Daeth Parchedig Evan Morgan i gymryd ein gwasanaeth Diolchgarwch a chasglwyd rhoddion o fwyd at Fanc Bwyd Caerdydd.

Fe gymerodd disgyblion yr ysgol ran yn ein hwythnos Fenter Busnes, fe wnaeth pob dosbarth creu amryw o bethau ac yna eu gwerthu i weddill yr ysgol a’u rhieni. Gwnaethant elw teg tra’n dysgu am ariannu’r prosiect o’r dechrau i’r diwedd.

Fe gymerodd tua 69 disgybl ran yng Nghynllun Darllen Haf Llyfrgelloedd Caerdydd. Fe fydd sgiliau darllen y plant yma wedi gwella heb os.

Year 5 worked with the cartoonist Huw Aaron to create characters that will help and support all pupils with the new curriculum.

Chris Harries from Stem worked with Year 6 pupils to design a car. STEM work to achieve a world-leading education for all young people in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

The European Languages Day was celebrated at school.

We welcome many professionals to the school, including educational psychologists, health workers and nurses, finance and ICT officers, community policeman advisory teachers and link teachers from Glantaf.

Mr Adam Coleman and Mr Emyr James from Menter Ysgolion Cymraeg Caerdydd visited the school to hold assemblies. Reverend Efan Morgan came to take our Thanksgiving Assembly and food was donated to Food Bank who support families during difficult times.

The school nurse and ‘Smile Campaign’ are regular visitors in order to support our care for the pupils’ health and wellbeing.

The Fire Service worked with Years 2 and 5. The pupils took part in our Enterprise Week.

They created a variety of products which they then sold to their peers and families. They all made a profit whilst at the same time learning the financial procedures that are part of an enterprise work.

Year 5 took part in a Remembrance Service in Cathays Cemetery.

Approximately 69 pupils took part in the Cardiff Library Summer Read Scheme. Their reading skills will definitely have improved.

We are confident that firm links and effective communication exists between the school and parents though the various newsletters, parents’ evenings, curriculum evenings, annual reports and open evenings.

Ysgol Mynydd Bychan Lotto now raises a significant sum of money for the school. The monthly PTA cake sales and the ‘day to make a difference’ have all been great successes.The members of the PTA were in charge of the Local Eisteddfod Café. The food was delicious and the whole day was very successful.The PTA bought the new football goals that are on the rear yard.We would also like to thank the PTA once more for all their hard work and dedication during the year, you play a vital role in our school’s life and it is greatly appreciated. It is your children that will benefit.

After school care club and Breakfast ClubThe Club continues to succeed under the management of Playworks and the Club committee between 3.15 and 6 pm. The club is held in the hall and back yard of the school. When there are practices in the hall or a sports club on the yard, the club is held in Reception Class, Yr 1 and 2 and on the front yard. The Free Breakfast Club is operating successfully.It runs from 8.25 – 8.50a.m.

Adeilad ac AdnoddauHen adeilad traddodiadol sydd gan Ysgol Mynydd Bychan. Mae hyn yn golygu bod angen llawer o waith cynnal a chadw yn flynyddol. Rydym yn parhau i weithio tuag at wella lle chwarae’r plant. Yn ystod ein ‘diwrnodau i wneud gwahaniaeth’, peintiwyd yr adnoddau pren ar yr iard, peintiwyd marciau chwarae ar yr iard, tacluswyd borderi a rhandir yr ysgol. Building and ResourcesYsgol Mynydd Bychan building is an old traditional one. This means that there is a constant necessity to maintain and improve it. We are continuing with our improvements of the school yard. During our ‘Days to make a difference’ the wooden resources on the yard were painted as well as new yard ‘play’ markings, the school allotment and garden borders were improved. Thank you all very much.

Llawlyfr yr Ysgol School ProspectusAdolygwyd Llawlyfr yr ysgol ym Mehefin 2018 yn unol â Chanllawiau Cynulliad Cymru. The School Prospectus was reviewed and amended in June 2018 according to the Welsh Assembly Guidelines. The School Prospectus was issued to parents of Nursery children who started school in Autumn 2017, Spring 2018 and Summer 2018 Terms and to Reception Class Parents in June 2018, in compliance with the statutory regulations. Additional Learning NeedsThe Special Educational Needs policy and action conforms to the Code of Practice for Wales (2004). In 2017/18, 68 pupils were on the Special Needs Register (25.5%), 56 on School Action (20.9%), 11 on school action + (4.1%) and 1 pupil had a Statement of Special Educational Needs (0.4%).

Tai Bach Toilet FacilitiesMae gan yr ysgol ddigon o dai bach i’r disgyblion. Adolygwyd cyflwr y tai bach yn rheolaidd. Mae gan yr ysgol dai bach ar gyfer yr anabl ar y ddau lawr.

The school has a sufficient number of toilets for the pupils. The condition of the toilets is monitored regularly. The school has disabled toilets on both floors of the building.
