    Over the past few years, the College has expanded and invested more than 70million in an ambitious redevelopment programme. We undoubtedly have some of the best facilities in the country, all of which have a positive impact on the success of our students. As an example, our exceptional sporting facilities enable us to offer more than 40 different sports on campus up to elite level. We are home to eight sporting academies and consistently have students represent their countries on a national and international level.

    As a Centre of Vocational Excellence for Agriculture, there is no better place than Bishop Burton College to gain the skills necessary to work confi dently on farms.

    The Centre for Agricultural Innovation aims to offer solutions to some of the challenges facing agriculture through a combination of land-based research, practical experience and its engagement with industry partners.

    The success of agriculture lies in research and development. By working with our students and partners the College is playing a key role in helping to shape farming in the future and pass this knowledge on to the wider farming community.

    Research Collaboration

    Centre for Agricultural Innovation

    GainingvaluableexperienceworkingontheColleges410hectare farm, which is split between arable and grassland for livestock including sheep, dairy and beef, you can study agriculture at many different levels to prepare you for a career in the industry.

    Students get to grips with precision agriculture using state-of-the-art technology and learn to operate drones to evaluate crop growth and management. You will also contribute towards caring for a sustainable environment and investigate climate change.

    Bishop Burton College is proud to be a strategic research partner for Asda and its key meat suppliers. Working alongside the retailer and its partners Dunbia, Cranswick Country Foods and ABP Food Group, students work on research projects and fi eld trials aimed at improving sustainability within the meat production industry.

    The initiative is the fi rst of its kind and, as well as taking an active role in numerous research and development projects, students are also able to benefi t from graduate roles at the partner organisations on completion of their studies.

    Equine - A Centre of Vocational Excellence

    Undoubtedly one of the fi nest in the UK, the Equine Centre o ers top-class facilities for all abilities of student, rider and competitor.

    With state-of-the-art facilities, including an Olympic standard arena, a host of therapy and rehabilitation rooms and a range of indoor and outdoor training facilities, including a six kilometre hacking track and a cross country course that spreads over 80 hectares of parkland, the College offers the very best equestrian experience.

    TheEquineTherapyandRehabilitationCentre,hometo our interactive dressage simulator and rider fi tness and performance unit, provides preventative and

    rehabilitative treatment for performance horses and ponies and includes a water treadmill, solarium and equine spa.

    As well as being a Centre of Vocational Excellence forEquine,theCollegeisalsoanapprovedWhereto Train and examination centre for the British HorseSociety(BHS)andregularlyplayshosttoregional, national and international equestrian events throughout the year including show jumping, dressage and horse trials.

    The Bishop Burton Equine Academy provides continued support and development of proven high calibre riders or those with future potential to succeed to a high level. The academy is open to both further and higher education students enrolled on a course at Bishop Burton College. Selected academy students will receive a highly supportive and structured training programme whilst studying for an academic qualification.

    The Equine Academy

    GinnieTurnbull,aneliteeventriderbasedinLeicestershire,issponsoredbytheCollegetosupportBishop Burtons Equine Academy programme. She does this by holding regular clinics and demonstrations at the College for our students and provides one-to-one sessions with each academy rider. She also undertakes course walks with students on behalf of the College at high-profile events including Bramham International Horse Trials.

    Selection on to the Academy Programme Applications to join the academy for September 2016 must be in by 31st July 2016. Selection into the academy is by application to the College.

TheCollegeisthehomeoftheCityofHullRugbyLeagueAcademy.BishopBurtonCollegeandRFLAcademyinitsownrightformspartofthePerformancePathwayforthedevelopmentofSuperLeague,ChampionshipandConferenceplayers.Bishop Burton academy players are coached by, train alongside and play with City of Hull players and have been a part of the development of numerous Super Leaguestars.

    Employer EngagementAll our animal management students are shown the path to success at the Colleges Employer Engagement event. Opportunities for working with animals in zoos, sanctuaries, wildlife parks and kennels are all highlighted at the event, which is attended by companies and organisations including:

    Industry LinksStudents benefit from our strong relationships with industry representatives. External work experience is a key aspect of all our courses, with such groups astheRSPCA,DogCareTrust,YorkshireWildlifePark,Burgess,HearingDogsandtheDepartmentforEnvironment,FoodandRuralAffairs(Defra),andmanymore.

    This helps many of our students secure part-time work to complement their studies, as well as employment straight after leaving college.

    Our state-of-the-art Animal Management Unit is one of the finest specialist facilities in the UK and surpasses industry standards.

    It includes a purpose-built reptile house, aviaries and small animal rooms to name a few. The unit also includes a purpose-built licensed commercial boarding kennels and a grooming parlour where students gain valuable experience.

    Other facilities include an isolation suite for trial work and research as well as a Higher Education project room. Students also benefit from

    working with livestock on the College farm.

    The animal collection is one of the biggest and most diverse around, housing our companion animals, aquaria and exotic species. The outdoor facility houses meerkats, Asian Short Clawed Otters, wallabies,Rhea,primatesandexotic hoof stock, among others.

    Information, Advice and Guidance

    Experienced and friendly sta to assist you with all your needs.

    We are proud to have a Student Association that plays an active role in College life.

    The Student Association acts as the link between staff and students, representing the student body across a wide range of forums and events.

    The association hosts hundreds of activities and trips for students each year. Added to this is our extensive sporting programme BB Active. If youre interested in keeping active while at College, there are more than 40differentsportsofferedoncampus.Fromfootballand netball, to fencing and even shooting, weve got something for everyone on campus.

    Being part of the Student Association gives you some great experience to put on your CV, making you more employable when you fi nish your studies. If youre interested in being part of the Student Association, you can fi nd out more when you start.

    Student ServicesOur Student Services team will provide you with support from before you start at College all the way through to the end of your journey. We have trained and experienced staff on hand to support you with progression and routes into employment and Higher Education. They will always be on hand to help with whatever you need.

    Additional Learner SupportThe College is committed to ensuring people with disabilities have access to the campus and curriculum and we operate a policy of flexible teaching and assessment.

    Health and WelfareThe health and welfare of our students is a priority. Numeroushealth-relatedactivitiesareheldthroughouttheyear,includingWellbeingDaysandfluvaccinations.A sexual health clinic is held every week and all information is treated sensitively and confidentially. The College has a dedicated Health and Wellbeing Officer who is on hand to support students with any issues affecting their wellbeing.

    The College has a zero tolerance approach to drugs and is a non-smoking campus, although designated areas are provided for smokers.

    Jordan had always loved playing sport, so when the opportunity came to study at Bishop Burton and be part of the Colleges RugbyLeagueAcademyprogramme,hejumped at the chance.

    Combining academic studies with an elite training programme, the programme offered Jordan the chance to pursue his professional sporting dream whilst studying a vocational course, should his sports career not take off.

    Jordan worked hard both on and off the pitch, taking full advantage of the access he had to state-of-the-art facilities and respected coaches, trainers and lecturers, and his dream became reality when he signed a professional contract with Super Leagueteam,HullFC.Alifelongdreamrealised through hard work, ambition and determination.

    While studying garden design at Bishop Burton,PippawasgiventhechancetoenteragardenintotheHarrogateFlowerShowthe premier horticultural show in the north. Working alongside construction students fromtheCollege,Pippateamedupwithalocal charity to develop the garden.

    The garden, designed for those living with dementia, aimed to create a safe environment for its users by reminding them of familiar smells using scented fl owers and by incorporating pathways that brought them back to the start.

    The garden impressed the judges so much that it secured one of just three gold awards at the show.

    Praisedforitsconsiderationofitsendusers,and the quality of the building work, the garden became the highlight of the show, and following its win, it was donated to the charitythathelpedPippacomeupwiththeaward-winningdesign.AndforPippa,thesuccess secured a future with Hobson and Porteralocalbuildingfirmwhichnowhasits own landscape designer.

    Employability is the name of the game at Bishop Burton College and all our courses are specifi cally designed to make students an attractive prospect to employers. This includes developing CVs and interview techniques, along with other personal development skills.

    We also have outstanding industry links in all subject areas. Our courses include guest speakers, off-site study visits and work experience placements to help students develop the practical skills needed in the workplace. This routinely leads to students securing part-time jobs to complement their College work and full-time positions on completion of their studies.

    Since graduating from the BSc Applied Animal Behaviour and Training course in 2008, Michael has travelled extensively working as a professional animal trainer in a variety of zoos and marine parks around the world.

    The course is designed to provide practical competence and underpinning knowledge that is relevant to the role of a veterinary carer in the modern veterinary practice. It provides a valuable alternative for those who do not have access to other qualifications and provides them with an opportunity to demonstrate their skills and understanding of veterinary care. Students complete 600 hours of work experience in a veterinary care environment and are assessed using a variety of methods.

    The course prepares and supports students for a career in veterinary nursing.     CSkills Level Three in Bricklaying

    This unit-based course will prepare you to become a recognised bricklayer. You will also learn a range of related construction skills and have the chance to design and manage your own building from start to finish.

    One year full time.

    Higher study options at the College are available in this area to further improve your knowledge, skills and employability.

    What could it lead to?

    Work as a senior bricklayer, with the potential to move into construction management in roles including project manager, structural engineer and development consultant, or even launch your own company.
