Combining academic studies with an elite training programme, the programme offered Jordan the chance to pursue his professional sporting dream whilst studying a vocational course, should his sports career not take off.

Jordan worked hard both on and off the pitch, taking full advantage of the access he had to state-of-the-art facilities and respected coaches, trainers and lecturers, and his dream became reality when he signed a professional contract with Super Leagueteam,HullFC.Alifelongdreamrealised through hard work, ambition and determination.

The garden, designed for those living with dementia, aimed to create a safe environment for its users by reminding them of familiar smells using scented flowers and by incorporating pathways that brought them back to the start.

The garden impressed the judges so much that it secured one of just three gold awards at the show.

Employability is the name of the game at Bishop Burton College and all our courses are specifically designed to make students an attractive prospect to employers. This includes developing CVs and interview techniques, along with other personal development skills.

This routinely leads to students securing part-time jobs to complement their degree work and full-time positions on completion of their studies.

Since graduating from the BSc Applied Animal Behaviour and Training course in 2008, Michael has travelled extensively working as a professional animal trainer in a variety of zoos and marine parks around the world.

He always knew the direction he was heading in with his career but without the necessary academic qualifications and practical experience attained from Bishop Burton, achieving his goals would

have been next to impossible in such a competitive field.

His latest adventure has taken him as far as the Middle East, where he has had the opportunity to implement and co-manage a new animal encounter programme. Working with a team of professionals, he has successfully introduced a colony of KingandGentoopenguinsintotheU.A.E,helping to improve animal awareness across the region.

Q: What do you like about Bishop Burton College?

A: It is a really friendly place, with good quality lecturers and well-structured units. The freedom to do this course distance learning is a huge advantage and allows me to pay the mortgage whilst working towards my degree.

Q: What is the best thing about your course?

A: Learning all the things I wish I had known 30 years ago, although the lecturers are truly in touch with all the latest peer-reviewed information so much of what is taught is cutting edge. Although I need the flexibility of distance learning, I absolutely love the block weeks, getting together with the rest of the cohort and talking dogs all night long.
