A letter from the Pastor My dear People at Blessed Seelos Parish:

The Kingdom of God is an invitation and not a done deal! That means that the reading for today remind us that we have been invited to be part of God’s plan, but even when we respond positively, we cannot assume that all is fine with us. Christianity is not a faith of complacency. It could be said that as Christians we are always in the process of fulfilling our destiny. The moment we say that we are through growing as a Christian, we are literally through! Jesus tells us in the parable of the wedding feast in the Gospel today that God is constantly inviting to be part of the banquet. Not everyone accepts the invitation. But even at the end, if we accept the invitation, we need to make sure we have accepted the Kingdom in God’s terms and not in our terms. The person who was found at the banquet without the proper vestment was thrown out from the banquet. Therefore, this cannot be an image of Heaven. One cannot be thrown out of Heaven! This parable is an image of our preparation for Heaven. We must prepare relying on the Word of God, on making a difference in others’ lives by the way we live, and contributing to the work for the Kingdom by our ministry in the Church. There is no other way to prepare in order to have the proper garment to enter Heaven. El Reino de los Cielos es una invitación y no algo que debemos dar por sentado. Esto quiere decir que las lecturas de hoy nos recuerdan que hemos sido invitados a ser parte del plan de Dios, pero que aun cuando respondemos afirmativamente, no podemos asumir que todo está bien con nosotros. El cristianismo no es una fe de complacencia. Como cristianos siempre estamos en el proceso de realizar nuestro destino. En el momento que decimos que hemos parado de crecer como cristianos, estamos terminados. Jesús nos dice en la parábola de los invitados al banquete que Dios está constantemente invitando al banquete de bodas. No todos aceptan la invitación. Pero aún al final, si aceptamos la invitación, tenemos que asegurarnos que hemos aceptado la invitación de acuerdo a los deseos de Dios y no los nuestros. La persona que estaba en el banquete sin el traje apropiado fue expulsada del banquete. Por eso la imagen del banquete no puede ser imagen del Cielo. ¡Nadie puede ser botado del Cielo! Esta parábola es una imagen de nuestra preparación para el Cielo. Debemos prepararnos recayendo en la Palabra de Dios, en hacer una diferencia en la vida de los demás, y en contribuir a la labor de la Iglesia a través de nuestros ministerios en la Iglesia. No hay otra manera de prepararnos para tener el traje apropiado para el Cielo. Fr./P. José Ignacio
