HIGHLANDTOWN/GREEKTOWN STATION

We come back to the community for feedback. This example is for the Highland-Greektown Red Line Station.

We took a holistic approach that considers education, transportation, sustainability, economic development, affordable housing, future growth and resilience in the face of climate change.

We produced 3D Draw-ings that excited Mary-landers about our vision for the Red Line Inner Harbor Station.

Even the Baltimore Ravens put us on their team!

GBETHEL STATION MAINE MASTER PLAN & CONCEPT DESIGN - BETHEL, ME

This master plan sets the tone for an initial 60‐acre development that will connect Bethel, small scenic Maine town to a nearby ski resort in a way that maintains the turn‐of‐the‐century character of the area.

The plan calls for a 130‐room hotel, movie theater, restaurants, condominiums, and space for retail and service businesses as well as a passenger rail station carrying vacationers from New York City, Connecticut and Boston the railway line, will be open during ski season.

The traditional New England architecture of the buildings and the use of brick sidewalks and historic‐style street lighting help create a look that is in keeping with the vernacular of the town. Relocating part of a state highway as a scenic parkway that meanders along a river also reinforces the values of a small historic town New England town.

BALTIMORE RED LINE STRUCTURES Maryland Transit Administration (MTA)

Surface Station Scheme A TRANSLUCENT PLANES

Through simple, yet sophisticated design, the vision of this canopy is to

seamlessly blend within it’s context along the Red Line regardless of location

within Baltimore.

The use of strong vertical planes will create an identifiable presence on the

platform by establishing a gateway for customers. In contrast, the canopy will

appear to be a floating plane above with little support structure revealed.

By cladding the planes with lightweight translucent materials, from a distance it

can appear to become one with the surroundings, but upon closer inspection it

shows itself to be a more dense form.

At night, when internally lit, these translucent planes will serve as a beacon of

light identifying the station. The simple form and translucent materials allow the

form to bathe in light throughout and become a recognizable glow.

Working with Parsons Brinckerhoff and AECOM on the Red Line Corridor Transit Study, Mimar was involved in the sche-matic phase for pre-design, development of construction documents and specifications. Mimar’s responsibilities also included design of construction documents for ancillary buildings, pubic concourses and vertical circulation.

“They have been, and continue to be, a valued member of our teams and we will continue, without hesitation, to partner with them on other projects.

Of all of the MBE firms that I have worked with, I place Mimar Architects, Inc. (Mimarch) at the top of the list because of their dedication, flexibility, attention to detail, and reliability” Jeff Lohr, Parsons Brinckerhoff

O U R P R O C E S S

In the Design Development phase, we showed interchangeable panels for easy adjustment of the bus route. We recommended that route information be placed facing passengers rather than the bus drivers.

We were directed from MTA to include a wave element that will also be painted on buses.

Finally, connections to other modes of travel have been added to increase brand awareness for MTA. The termi-nal destinations were also added for smaller signs to aid wayfinding.

uThe Orange/Blue Line required an extremely quick turn-around which Mimar accommodated.

uIntroduced new concept - signs with destination informa-tion for elevators.

uUpgraded all signage for 16 stations from the Stadium-Armory to Crystal City.

uCoordinated old sign demolition and new sign construction and placement.

uDelivered temporary covers that integrate the current system and signage to prepare passengers for new Silver Line opening December 2013.

uCompleted all requested work on time and on budget including construc-tion management.

uUsed the latest design-build technol-ogy. Architects were required to think quickly and compre-hensively in con-juntion with detail oriented designers to add value.

The addition of the Silver Line to the Orange/Blue stations from Rosslyn station to Largo Town Center required additional design services to create methods not previously used to add a third destination on all signs. Additional wayfinding signs were devel-oped to identify which streets are at each exit.
