Freshman Welcome dinner 2013

BUUIC was pleased to host a “Welcome Dinner” for the 2013 freshman class on September 3, 2013. In addition to food and entertainment the students had a good opportunity to get to know the Dean, BUUIC instructors and staff and other freshmen. During the event, Dean Rana Pongruengphant presented awards to those students who had the best score in the English program.

Welcome Dean and Professors from Nakhon Pathom Rajabhat University

On September 4, 2013 Assoc. Prof. Rana Pongruengphant, Dean of Burapha University International College and faculty members welcomed Assist. Prof. Dr. Usa Noytim, the Dean and other professors from the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Nakhon Pathom Rajabhat University. The purpose of the visit was to learn how BUUIC administers its academic system.

BUUIC Provides Academic Service for Cooperative Education

Mr. Samart Plangpramool, Associate Dean for Student Affairs & Coordinator for Cooperative Education was invited to be a guest speaker for Bangkok University (BU) International Cooperative Education Day which was held on 4th September 2013 at Bangkok University, City Campus. During the seminar for this event titled “First Step to a Successful Career”, Mr. Samart presented and shared his knowledge with lecturers, students and staff from Bangkok University regarding “Cooperative Education” being compulsory for success in future careers and how to prepare students to work in ASEAN 2015.

MOU Signing with Centara Grand Hotel Group

Prof. Sompol Pongthai, President of Burapha University and Assoc. Prof. Rana Pongruengphant, Dean of Burapha University International College signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Centara Hotel Group at the Centara Grand Mirage Beach Resort in Pattaya on September 11, 2013. The MOU will focus on an Internship and Co-operative Education program involving BUUIC students and those Hotels and Resorts comprising the Centara Group. They are : the Centara Grand Mirage Beach Resort, the Centara Grand Phratamnak Resort Pattaya, the Centara Grand Modus Resort Pattaya, the Centara Grand Pattaya Hotel and the Centara Nova Hotel and Spa Pattaya.

BUUIC Attends 18th Convention Promotion Seminar & Convention Exhibition

Mr. Samart Plangpramool, Associate Dean for Student Affairs & Chairperson, International Tourism and Hotel Management Program was invited to attend the “18th Convention Promotion Seminar & Convention Exhibition (The 18th CPS & CONVEX 2013)” on 5th – 7th September 2013 at Movenpick Resort and Spa, Karon Beach, Phuket. The event was organized by the Thailand Incentive and Convention Association (TICA), the objective of this event was to promote Phuket for being “Thailand’s MICE (Meeting, Incentive, Conference and Exhibition) City in the near future”.

BUUIC Instructors and Students Join Ruamrudee International School (RIS) Open House 2013

A group from BUUIC recently attended the Ruamrudee International School Open House 2013. The group, led by Mr.Samart Plangpramool, the Associate Dean for Student Affairs at BUUIC, included Dr.Sorrapakksorn Chatrakamollathas, a full-time BUUIC instructor, Mr.Kitja Lairayapong, a Student Affairs Officer and 3 students from the BUUIC Student Club. The purpose of the visit was to foster better public relations and to present information to the RIS stanf for students regarding the various study programs at BUUIC. There are many students from RIS interested in attending BUUIC.

Tree Planting Project, 10th Year Anniversary of BUUIC

On September 14th, 2013, Mr.Samart Plangpramool, Associate Dean for Student Affairs with Ms.Gessirin Sirikhant, President of BUUIC Student Club, led a group of BUUIC instructors and students on a visit to Khao-Keow and Khao-Chomphu Wildlife Conservation Area for a Tree Planting Project on in celebration of the 10th Year Anniversary of BUUIC.

Wai Kru & Bai Sri Su Kwan Ceremony 2013

On September 19, 2013 BUUIC held its annual “Wai Kru & Bri Sri Su Kwan Ceremony. This ceremony gave students an opportunity to pay respect to their teachers as well as bringing about greater harmony among the students and teachers. In addition the teachers bestowed their best wishes on the students. There was also a presentation of 53 scholarships to those BUUIC students who had a GPA in excess of 3.60. Entertainment was provided by some students who performed a traditional Thai dance.

Introduction to Double Degree Program in IBM

On September 30, 2013 Burapha University International College presented information to those students considering participating in the double degree program in International Business Management (IBM). The program involves academic work at both Montpellier Business School, France and Burapha University International College. Prof. Seng Bisiou, the Project Development Manager for Asia, Groupe Sup de Co, Montpellier Business School attended the event as a representative of Montpellier Business School.

BUUIC Students Participate in International Cooperative Education, Singapore

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Rana Pongruengphant, Dean of BUUIC, led a team including Mr. Samart Plangpramool, Associate Dean for Student Affairs & Coordinator for Cooperative Education and Mr. Prasit Pongruengphant, an instructor in communication skills for the Human Resource Development Department on a recent visit to the Marriott Orchard Hotel, the Park Regis Hotel and the Wangz Hotel in Singapore. The purpose of the trip was to visit those BUUIC students who will be working as trainees in these hotels between October 1, 2013 and March 31, 2014. The training is part of a cooperative education program involving BUUIC’s Department of International Tourism and Hotel Management and the tourism & hospitality industry in Singapore.

MOU with Ural Federal University, Russian Federal

On the 27th of September 2013, Associate Prof. Dr. Rana Pongruengphant, Dean of Burapha University International College and Prof. Victor A. Kowsharov, Rector of Ural Federal University, the Russian Federation, signed an MOU for academic collaboration. Dr. Itti Ditbanjong , the Thai Ambassador to the Russian Federation was a witness. In addition, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Rana Pongruengpjant gave a Thai boxing gift box to Dr. Ditbanjomg as part of the opening ceremony for a Thai room and a Thai boxing center at Ural Federal University.

Public Relations for Double Degree BUUIC- Montpellier Business School

On October 2, 2013 Miss Thaksaorn Srisangkhajorn, lecturer and International Business Management Advisor, and other BUUIC staff, along with Seng Bisiou, the Project Development Coordinator for Asia from the Montpellier Business School conducted a promotional activity at Lycee Franais International de Bangkok for the Joint BBA Program (2+1) involving BUUIC and Montpellier Business School (MBS). The event was attended by guidance teachers, parents and students with an interest in International Business Management. Information and advice regarding studying abroad, academic requirements, administrative

procedures, and academic credit were provided to these students and their parents to help them make an informed decision about the study abroad opportunities at BUUIC and MBS.

Certificates Presented to two exchange students from Nishikyushu University, Japan

On October 2, 2013 Assoc. Prof. Dr. Rana Pongruangphant, Dean of Burapha University International College presented a certificate of achievement to two exchange students from Nishikyushu University, Japan: Miss Kana Fujikawan and Miss Yuko Nakashima. They were studying here as part of an MOU agreement between both universities. During their stay at BUUIC from August 26th – October 9th 2013 they took a variety of classes including Thai language, Thai culture, and holistic health.

Preserving Thai Identity: Joy of Thai Dancing

On October 10, 2013, Ms. Thaksaorn Srisangkhajorn, a lecturer for the class of General Knowledge of Thai Society, taught students Thai dancing and encouraged students to create their own contemporary Thai dances. All Thai and international students not only absorbed an authentic Thai dancing experience including the meaning of each act and Thai music, but also observed an essential part of Thai culture.

MOU Signing with IMI University Centre, Luzern, Switzerland

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Rana Pongruengphant, Dean of BUUIC, along with Mr. Samart Plangpramool, Associate Dean for Student Affairs and Chairperson, International Tourism & Hotel Management Program and Mr. Prasit Pongruengphant, a BUUIC instructor on a visit to IMI University Centre, Luzern, Switzerland for the purpose of signing a MOU & MOA regarding a triple degree program (3+1) for International Tourism & Hotel Management students. The signing took place on the 4th of October 2013. Representing the IMI University Centre were Professor John Fenby, Mr. Andreas Breitenmoser and Ms. Sophie Chang. Those students in the Department of International Tourism & Hotel Management who join this program will study at BUUIC for 3 years and then do their final year of study at the IMI University Centre. After completing the program, the students will get 3 degrees, one each from BUUIC, IMI University Centre (IMI) in Switzerland and Manchester Metropolitan University (MMU) in the United Kingdom.

MOU for Cooperative Education with Le Meridian Koh Samui Resort and Spa

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Rana Pongruengphant, Dean of BUUIC, led a BUUIC team on a visit to Le Meridian Koh Samui Resort & Spa in Suratthani Province, for the purpose of signing an MOU with the resort. The Dean was accompanied by Mr.Samart Plangpramool, Associate Dean for Student Affairs & Coordinator for Cooperative Education and Mr. Prasit Pongruengphant, an instructor in Communication Skills for the Human Resource Development Department. Representing Le Meridian were Ms. Tina Lie, the General Manager and Ms. Sureeporn Rungrueng, the Director of Human Resources.The MOU, signed on the 11th of October 2013, will establish a cooperative education program whereby BUUIC Students will have the opportunity to work as a trainee at such a well-known five star hotel as "Le Meridian" which is part of the hotel chain "Starwood Hotels & Resorts".

ASEAN Cultural Camp 2013

On 18-20 October, 2013, Mr. Parinya Nakpathom and Mr.Samart Plungpramool, BUUIC instructors from International Tourism Management Department, BUUIC organized the ASEAN Cultural Camp, 2013 for full time and double degree tourism students to study cultural tourism in Laos. The purpose of this program was to impart historical and culture knowledge for students to study from the travel agency in Laos. Moreover, Tourism students received an understanding of the being a tour guide and tourism policy in Laos.

Principles of Tour Guiding

On 28 October, 2013, Mr. Parinya Nakpathom, BUUIC instructor organized the special Tour Guide Course for Tourism students. The course entitled “Principles of Tour Guiding” was held at the Grand Palace, the Emerald Buddha Temple and Wat Pho (Reclining Buddha Temple) in Bangkok. The purpose of this course was to impart historical all destinations with an emphasis on there architectural aspects. Moreover, students were provided an opportunity for practicing their English in the role as a Tour Guide.

10th New Young Researchers at Siam university

A group of BUUIC students have won the first round and attended a special seminar as part of a special program entitled “10th Young Researchers”, which was launched by Thailand Marketing Research Society (TMRS). The program, which ran from 21-26 October 2013 at Siam University, was attended by: Mr. Kittiphot Chatchaikulsiri, Miss Phatteera Thongsuwan, Miss Rungtorsri Aphirukmontri, and Miss Natthanate Areeratroongsri. The objectives of this program was to educate students on the understanding of marketing research, and to foster good relationships between

students from many universities. There were nine university teams attending this program who also participated in a workshop together.

Preserving Thai Identity: Learning Creative Activities for Loy Kratong Day and End of Buddhist Lent

Ms.Thaksaorn Srisangkhajorn, a lecturer teaching General Knowledge of Thai Society, and special guest speakers Ajarn Reungpit Karnkulwithit and Ajarn Monthree Ponpongsavad set up a special workshop for Loy Kratong Day and the end of Buddhist Lent on the 24th and 31st of October, 2013. This workshop allowed students to learn about Thai traditional culture. In particular they learned how to create their own Kratong, a bouquet and tray with a pedestal which was all made from parts of a banana tree. Both Thai and international students had a great time and gained experience working as a team as well as a better understanding of Thai culture.

BUUIC Logistics Seminar

On October 31, 2013 BUUIC students majoring in logistics attended a logistics seminar at IC203 Auditorium Room, International College. Ms. Wiranya Promboon, the Logistics Site Manager for Electrolux in Rayong and Mr. Kriangsak Thanasiranon provided an expert look at the company’s internal logistics including 3PL (Third party Logistics) as well as information on career opportunities in this field. In addition the seminar covered supply chain management (SCM) from raw materials, to manufacturing, distribution, and retailing down to the end user customer. Modern logistics is not only warehousing and transportation by land, air and water but involves all aspects of the entire supply chain both domestically and internationally. The seminar, which was organized by the BUUIC Student Club, was well attended by logistics majors and those students who were interested in studying logistics or just wanted to learn more about logistics and supply chain management.

Dean and Faculty Members of BUUIC attend 9th QS-APPLE, Asia-Pacific Professional Leaders in Education Conference and Exhibition

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Rana Pongruengphant, Dean of BUUIC, along with Dr.Kumutinee Worasuwan, Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, Mr.Samart Plangpramool, Associate Dean for Student Affairs and Mr.Prasit Pongruengphant, a BUUIC instructor recently attended the "9th QS-APPLE, Asia-Pacific Professional Leaders in Education Conference and Exhibition” at SUNG KYUN KWAN University in Seoul, South Korea, between October 30th - November 1st, 2013. During the conference two research papers were presented by BUUIC, the first, "A Case Study on Student Mobility between Thailand and South Korea through Global Business Leadership Camp (GBLC)" was presented by our Dean along with Mr. Plangpramool. The 2nd presentation entitled "BUUIC on Curriculum and Instruction towards ASEAN & Internationalization" was given by Dr. Worasuwan & Mr. Plangpramool. Both presentations went well with the attendees asking a number of questions on both topics. In addition the conference served as a good opportunity for BUUIC to connect with many recognized institutions in Asia and explore the possibility of further partnering and collaboration.

Special Lecture “Business Strategies for Import Export”

The Department of International Business Management presented a special lecture “Business Strategies for Import Export” featuring Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tawit Sudsakorn, Director of the MBA program at Sripatum University on October 31, 2013. The purpose of the lecture was to provide students with some real business knowledge in both the public and private sectors with regard to business tactics, regulations, and preparation for running an international business.

APRC 2013 Thailand

On November 1, 2013, Miss Passarin Phalitnonkiat, an instructor at BUUIC, accompanied four BUUIC students majoring in International Business Management to a conference “APRC 2013 Sense & Sensibility: The Hybrid for Success” at the Grand Millennium Hotel Sukhumwit in Bangkok. The students were: Mr. Kittiphot Chatchaikulsiri, Miss Phatteera Thongsuwan, Miss Rungtorsri Aphirukmontri, and Natthanate Areeratroongsri. The conference was presented by the Asia Pacific Research Committee.

Industry Visit to LCIT and Port of Laem Chabang

BUUIC logistics students received an insider tour by Mr. Wasin Suttipisetchart Senior Business Support Manager of Laem Chabang International Terminal (LCIT) a Thai-Bahrain Joint Venture Company. LCIT is the largest ocean terminal in Thailand with a quay length of almost 1 Km, 4,000 square meters of warehouse space and over 6,300 container ground slots including 600 Reefers (Refrigerated Containers). The super-post Panamax cranes and rubber tyred gantry (RTG) cranes which can move in excess of 40 containers per hour, handle over 1 Million TEU (20 foot equivalent container units) annually, loading and unloading all types of ships including RORO (Roll-On Roll-Off Car Carriers), trucks and trains which provided the students with a better understanding of Multimodal Transport and logistics operations and the importance and practical application of the lessons learned in the BUUIC multi-media logistics class rooms. LCIT stressed the importance of ASEAN trade and the parallel flow of goods and information to keep up with the increased volume and velocity of the logistics business. Students and faculty also had an opportunity to meet which BUUIC alumni and co-op students who are working at LCIT and to strengthen the mutual beneficial relationship between LCIT and BUUIC.

BUUIC Service Learning Experience at Sotsuksa Chonburi School

Students enrolled in the “Human Rights and Human trafficking” class taught by Ms.Thaksaorn Srisangkhajorn were recently given an opportunity to participate in a service learning experience at the Sotsuksa Chonburi School for the Deaf during November 6- December 4, 2013. Both Thai and international students participated in this service activity that identified community needs, gave students a better understanding of course content and enhanced their sense of civic responsibility. The BUUIC students adapted their knowledge and critical thinking skills to teach those Sotsuka Chonburi School students about their disability rights, English for everyday life, along with recreational and other creative activities.

BUUIC OPEN HOUSE 2013

On the 4th of November 2013 the Dean of BUUIC, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Rana Pongruengphant and BUUIC lecturers and staff welcomed about 148 students from 8 high schools and International Schools from the eastern region of Thailand. During the OPEN HOUSE the students toured BUUIC and attended demonstration teaching classes taught in English. In addition many students also participated in activities in the hotel and food and beverage laboratory at BUUIC.

Welcome Teachers and Students from Princess Chulabhon’s College Chonburi

On the 5th of November 2013 the Dean of BUUIC, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Rana Pongruengphant and BUUIC lecturers and staff welcomed about 168 students and 6 teachers from Princess Chulabhon’s College Chonburi. During the OPEN HOUSE the students toured BUUIC.

During November 7-8 November 2013, Burapha University conducted a sermon at the main auditorium of Burapha University. BUUIC served as host for the sermon ‘13rd Nakorn Kun’ on November 8, 2013 at 15.00-16.00.

Northeastern Trip

On 8-10 November, 2013, Mr. Parinya Nakpathom, a BUUIC instructor from International Tourism Management Department and Tourism students visited the famous tourist attractions in the Northeastern region of Thailand followed by Bureau of Tourism Business and Guide Registration, Department of Tourism, Ministry of Tourism and Sports. The purpose of this program was to impart historical, cultural, architectural knowledge as provide an opportunity for students to practice their ability in role of tour guide. Moreover, students gained service knowledge and entertainment activities for tour organization.

Mr.Samart Plangpramool, Associate Dean for Student Affairs and Chairperson, Department of International Tourism and Hotel Management, led a team comprised of Ms.Krita-orn Chewwasung, a full-time instructor in the Department of International Tourism & Hotel Management, Ms.Pekhanang Yodmanee, a full-time Instructor in the B.A. Program and 7 students majoring in International Hotel Management on a visit to Sekolah Tinggi Pariwisata (STP) Trisakti, Jakarta, Indonesia during 7th - 13th November 2013. Both instructors and students were participating in the cultural exchange program under the annual project "BUUIC ASEAN Study Trip, Academic Year 2013".

Celebration Ceremony for 4th Anniversary of BUUIC Building

On November 11, 2013, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Rana Pongruengphant, Dean of Burapha University International College and BUUIC faculty members welcomed guests from other faculties as part of a ceremony celebrating the 4th Anniversary of the Prof. Dr. Suchart Upatham Building. A group of Buddhist monks offered their blessings during the ceremony, which was presided over by Prof. Dr. Suchart Upatham.

BUUIC Wins First Runner-up Prize for Floating Basket (Kra Thong) Contest of BUU Loy Kra Thong Festival 2013

A team from the BUUIC Student Club led by Ms.Gessirin Sirikhant, the President of the Club, made of Giant Floating Basket (Kra Thong) for the contest "BUU Loy Kra Thong Festival 2013". They were awarded a prize of 1,500 THB as the first runner-up in the contest.

BUUIC attends UNWTO Knowledge Network Symposium & TedQual Information Seminar

Mr.Samart Plangpramool, Associate Dean for Student Affairs and Chairperson, Department of International Tourism and Hotel Management, recently participated in the UNWTO Knowledge Network Symposium & TedQual Information Seminar. The symposium and seminar was held at the School of Hotel & Tourism Management, Hong Kong Polytechnic University during 16th

- 17th November 2013. Mr. Plangpramool presented an academic paper titled "Practicum Training through Cooperative Education: A Case Study of International Tourism and Hotel Management Program at Burapha University International College”. His presentation was successful with many scholars recommended him to do further research on cooperative education.

Asian Trip Program 2013

During November 14-17, 2013, Miss Sirintorn Thepmongkorn, Associate Dean for the Global Affairs and Miss Thaksaorn Srisangkajorn, an instructor in IBM lead a group of twenty 4th year students on a trip to Singapore and Indonesia under the Asian Trip Program 2013. First, they visited the Shelton International College in Singapore where they attended a lecture entitled “Getting Ready for Working in Singapore in an International Environment”. Following this they traveled to Indonesia and participated in a seminar and workshop at Universitas International Batam. This was the 3rd joint seminar between BUUIC and Universitas International Batam. BUUIC and UIB students made presentations at the seminar under the topic “Globalizing Asia : The Urgent Roles of Asian Tertiary Education”. In addition Miss Sirintorn and Miss Thaksaorn gave lectures on the topic “The Importance of Studying Aboard”.All the instructors and students who participated were very happy and satisfied with this academic and cultural exchange. A group of students from UIB will come to visit BUUIC in Febuary, 2014 under the seminar and cultural exchange program.

On November 19, 2013, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Rana Pongruengphant, Dean of Burapha University International College and BUUIC faculty members welcomed administrators from the Centara Group: Centara Grand Mirage Beach Resort Pattaya, Centara Grand Phratamnak Resort Pattaya, Centara Grand Modus Resort & Spa Pattaya, and Centara Pattaya Hotel. Exchange Students Trip

During the 2013 fall semester BUUIC was pleased to have many double degree and exchange students come to study here. The vision of BUUIC is not only for them to acquire academic knowledge in the classroom but also to provide a cultural experience for these students. Thus, Mrs. Sirintorn Thepmongkorn, Associate Dean for Global Affairs and Mr. Parinya Nakpathom, instructors from the International Tourism Management Department, organized a field trip to Bangsean, Angsila, Pattaya and Bangkok so that the students could learn more about the culture and traditional life style of Thai society.

BUUIC Faculty Members attend 11th Society of Asian Retailing and Distribution Workshop (The 11th SARD workshop)

Ms. Thaksaorn Srisangkhajorn, Major Advisor, Department of International Business Management and Mr. Samart Plangpramool, Associate Dean for Student Affairs and Chairperson, Department of International Tourism & Hotel Management recently attended the 11th Society of Asian Retailing and Distribution workshop titled "Internationalization of Retailing and Services: Opportunities of Franchising". The workshop was held at National Kaohsiung First University of Science and Technology, Taiwan R.O.C. during 29th November - 1st December 2013. They jointly presented a research paper on the topic of "The Future of Retailer Development and the Role of Tourism Intermediary on Local Business in Thailand". Furthermore, they were able to meet with representatives from many universities in Japan and China.

Programs recently attended an international conference titled "Towards the Next Decade of Hospitality and Creative Economics: Looking Forward to 2020". The conference was held at Hotel Novotel Bangkok on Siam Square during 2nd - 3rd December 2013. Their research papers have been selected to be presented at Silpakorn 70th Anniversary International Conference 2013 which is being organised by Silpakorn University International College and the Faculty of Management Science, Silpakorn University.

On December 6th, 2013 Mr.Samart Plangpramool, Chairperson, International Tourism and Hotel Management Programme, led the team, with Mrs.Reizle Jiratthiti, a part-time Instructor, with 9 of second year students in International Hotel Management Programme on a visit to Bangkok Marriott Hotel Sukhumvit for Housekeeping Management and Room Division Field Trip, Academic Year, Fall 2013. The objective of the field trip was on the job study with Housekeeping Management Department and Room Division. Students also practiced on the job with the hotel staff.

MOU Signing Ceremony with FPT, Vietnam

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Rana Pongruangphan, Dean of the International College led an administrative team to FPT University from 8 to 10 December 2013 in order to participate in the MOU Signing Ceremony between FPT University, Vietnam and Burapha University International College. During the visit the BUUIC team also met with Dr. Nguyen Thanh Nam, the President of FPT International Academy and discussed academic cooperation between the two institutions. The actual MOU signing ceremony was witnessed by Mr. Nguyen Thi Mo, Director of the International Cooperation Department. After that, the group visited the head office of the FPT company in the city and shared ideas with graduate students and researchers.

On December 7th, 2013, Mr.Samart Plangpramool, Chairperson, International Tourism and Hotel Management Program, led a group of 3rd year students majoring in International Tourism Management on a visit to Bangkok Tree House for a Sustainable Tourism Field Trip, Academic Year, Fall 2013. The objective of the field trip was an on-site study of the linkages between accommodation management and sustainable tourism.

BUUIC Cooperative Education Seminar, Fall 2013

On 14th December 2013, Mr.Samart Plangpramool, Associate Dean for Student Affairs, Mrs.Sirintorn Thepmongkorn, Associate Dean for Global Affairs and two instructors, Ms. Thaksaorn Srisangkhajorn and Ms. Pekanang Yodmanee, served as guest speakers for BUUIC’s Cooperative Education Seminar, Fall 2013. The theme of the seminar was "Preparing to Work in ASEAN and Global Business". All students who enrolled in the subject of cooperative education for Spring Semester 2013 participated in this event.

Certificate ceremony and Farewell for thirteen foreign students

On 13rd December, 2013 Assoc. Prof. Rana Pongruengphant, Dean of BUUIC present the certificates with souvenires to thirteen foreign students. Eight of these students who have enrolled for the semester are part of various exchange programs that BUUIC has with foreign universities: one student from Appalachian State University, one from National Kaohsiung First University of Science and Technology, one from Universitas International Batam, five from Gadjamada. There were also five students from Indonesia (Trisakti) who graduate under a double degree program that BUUIC has with Trisakti University. They are the first batch of this double degree program.

becoming increasingly global through our partnering with many institutions around the world. Among these are a 2+1 double degree program in International Business Management with Montpellier Business School, (Sup de Co), France, a joint 2+2 double degree program with Appalachian State University, North Carolina, USA, another 2 + 2 double degree program in Hotel and Tourism with TRISAKTI, STIPRAM, SAHID, Indonesia andfinally a 2 + 2 double degree program in Marketing with UIB, Batam, Indonesia. We have also expanded our capacity for cooperative education by establishing programs with Shelton College, Singapore, and IMI University, Switzerland. In addition we are partnering with the Sheraton Hotel in Krabi and the Centara Hotel in Pattaya. Finally we are participating in a special distance learning program in the form of a Global Understanding Course with Appalachian State University, Beijing International Study University, Ching-Yun University, Taiwan and Duy Tan University, Vietnam.

We are proud of the facilities which BUUIC can provide its students including the modern classrooms equipped with the latest technology in support of the highest quality of teaching and research. Looking toward the future the BUUIC International House presently under construction will accommodate 400 male and 600 female students as well as 20 professors once it is finished sometime around February 2015.

However now is certainly not the time to rest on our past accomplishments. Instead we are ready to embark on a new period of reinvention as we strive for excellence in the 21st century. This will demand the full engagement of our outstanding faculty and staff but I am confident that they will be up to this challenge. As we move ahead to this next crucial phase, I would especially l ike to thank two indiv iduals for their leadership and valuable assistance: Prof. Suchart Upatham, the founder of BUUIC currently the Dean’s advisor; and Professor Sompol Pongthai, the President of Burapha University.

Anniversaries provide an excel lent opportuni ty not only to ref lect on the past but also to contemplate the future. Firstly, I would like to share with you some of the success which BUUIC has experienced during its first decade of existence. The number of enrolled students has jumped from only 33 students our first year to 1,021 students currently studying in one of our undergraduate programs leading to a BBA, BA, or BFA degree. Our student body presently includes more than 200 foreign students representing 20 countries. From an institutional perspective we are
